Benji with his plants and Chris with his books really just brought my two favorite hobbies together. Love this video!! I sometimes read the same things over and over because I'm overwhelmed by the options of choosing a new book but getting recommendations will certainly help! thanks chris!!
Hi Chris! From Benji's channel..here for you. Its nice to get to know and see you better😊 Really looking forward to hearing more about your book reviews/recommendations!
Thank you for the new video! It made me so happy to see you back. Your well-spoken responses feel so empathetic and heartfelt, it is actually very soothing to listen to you
I tried reading the Shadow of the wind too, but in Spanish as it was originally published. The one in English was translated and I think you can tell as some of the translations don’t match up entirely, but at least from the Spanish perspective, it is very beautifully written and lyrical as you said. But that being said, I also had a hard time digesting it as the Spanish version is very technically written and Spanish is one of those languages that one word has multiple meanings depending on the context. I may need to pick it up again to verify, but loved your review!! 💜💜
Happy to see you returning! I have discovered your channel about a week ago and subscribed thinking "maybe he's gonna come back", and you did! Great timing. I like how calming your videos are ❤
I really enjoyed this, I'm getting back into consistent reading (for enjoyment) after Uni textbooks burnt me out and I think I'll take a look at one of these. Looking forward for what is to come!
You should definitely take whatever time you need to make videos at your own pace. I think it’s even more valuable to make videos on things you’re really passionate about or really really loved books that have to be a video. The best thing you can do is even to just make one video a year but it’s your top favs of the year, I’d love to watch that at the end of this year ❤❤❤❤
Happy to see you back. Doing this shouldn’t stress you out so definitely make sure you keep your love for reading and only post when you want to share with us. “Mexican Gothic” has been on my TBR for some time now but I’m holding off until Halloween. It’s going to be my spooky season book to curl up with. Heard really good things about it and I love a gothic haunted house tale. I plan on reading Nick Cutter’s “The Troop” but think it’s for people with a strong stomach. Definitely don’t feel bad about not finishing “Shadows of the Wind”. I never finished it either. I was enjoying it but felt it was becoming hard work. This was probably because I was reading it on Kindle, which isn’t my favourite style of reading. I do want to go back to it but think I’ll get a physical copy. I also want to read Shirley Jackson’s “The Haunting of Hill House”. It is the classic haunted house book and so many films and other books have been influenced by this. Looking forward to your next recommendations, particularly if they are fantasy. Just bought N. K. Jemisin’s “The Fifth Season”, which strides the fantasy and sci-fi worlds. I’ve not heard one bad thing about it so excited to read it and try the others in the trilogy if the hype is real. Have a great day.
I read The Shadow of the Wind when I was a teen and I absolutely loved it. So now, 12 years later I figured I’d re-read it to see how I interpret it as an adult… It’s been tough. I’m in a bit of a slump right now, and your triple chocolate cake analogy describes precisely the reason. I really want to finish it though, hopefully soon :)
I really enjoyed this, thank you Chris! I came here from benji - but I really want to get into reading again after 2 very busy years. Would you consider even reading any fun passages you loved too? I agree with a previous commenter, great voice to listen to!
Chris, I'm also Irish. For me Halloween is all about the old lores past down.I would love it if you could give some old lore reviews in October. Love your channel.
Thabka for the video! Cant wait to pick some of these up 🙂 And thank you for being honest about you DNF books. We dont see enough of that in the community. I aporeciate it.
In case you’ll be in the mood to read creepy books again, I highly recommend Lee Mandelo’s Summer Sons. It’s a queer southern gothic novel about a guy looking for answers behind his best friend’s (maybe lover’s) sudden death. It’s very moody and atmospheric that kept me reading late at night.
Hi Chris! I absolutely understand why you're hesitant to make videos, it's a scary thing even to think about! I hope you'll be able to make videos only when you want to, and not put pressure on yourself. I love the way you talk about the books and never give too much away, and also that you put up the name of the book and author on the screen 😊 I read The Shadow of the Wind many many years ago, and don't remember any of it, at all. I tried reading the second in the series and that was much worse and I quit. I really enjoyed The Graveyard book too 🥰
Just discovered the channel and I loved the video! I read the Shadown of the Wind in Spanish a couple of years ago and although I liked it I totally understand why you didn't finish it. Also loved The Yellow Wallpaper, which also made me sad more than anything. Overall I really enjoy your commentary :)
I love getting book recommendations and these seem like all great options!!!! So happy to see you making book content, it’s such a great way to share your thoughts on whatever you’re reading
Graveyard Book is excellent! I’ve used it for literature circles and recommended it to many students. Another favorite Gaiman book for students is Norse Mythology. My favorite for personal reading is American Gods.
This was so much fun! I'm so glad you did this!! I've been wanting to read the Graveyard book and draw illustrations for books like them! I've been scared to do my youtube for the same reason, so this video kind of reminds me to take it chill.
I'm so incredibly happy to see you're back. I'm sure all of us missed you a lot. Keep up the good work, but don't forget to have fun and do it primarily for yourself!! Sending hugs of support🌟
I am so glad that I got to see your UA-cam series. I love books and always am looking for new books and series. I am a big fan of mysteries, especially English authors as I was brought up for the first 13 years of my life and when we emigrated to Canada I got to read North American writers. I have over 10,000 books in my library and am always looking for something new. I love your voice, it is very soothing.
I tend to read mostly horror, especially atmospheric haunted house horror. I have Mexican Gothic, The Yellow Wallpaper, and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, but haven't read them yet. Too many books ... too little time. I hadn't heard of The Shadow of the Wind before. It's a little outside of my genre comfort zone, but the description and some reviews piqued my curiosity. I just ordered a copy. I've been trying to get out of my comfort zone occasionally and explore other genres.
Mexican Gothic was fantastic, and I always enjoyed The Graveyard Book. I always tell people it's like a supernatural version of The Jungle Book, hahaha. The Yellow Wallpaper and We Have Always Lived In The Castle are good classics! If you want a few good spooky and creepy reads, then I would recommend anything by Ronald Malfi, especially his book Bone White. Another favorite of mine was The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. Both books are very atmospheric and hard to put down!
So excited to see you in front of the camera, I watch Benji all the time and am always thinking where is Chris, how is Chris?? Totally understand being a private person though! I’ve been wanting to get into Fiction so loving these recommendations, also loving that they are spookyish 😂 🎃
oh my, I had THE SAME feeling with The Shadow od the Wind, I stopped around 200-300 pages too, cuz it was a bit exhausting for me :') I told myself that maybe I'll give it another shot one day, still hope this day will come :D Also I'm so so glad to see you around here again :) Adore you rumble ab books
Read Mexican Gothic so good ! I have also read yellow wallpaper in my English college class ! I really liked it Both Creepy 👍🏼 perfect for Halloween Vibes !
Came over from Benjis Q&A. The vibes that you guys emit >>>. Gives me energy seriously! Some of my favorite books I’ve ever Read are: Lost Imperial Seal & Secrets Never Die. I love action and adventure and they were while still cozy. Please read! Thank you again for your energizing vibes
I'm trying to get into reading as a hobby! (i have a very short attention span so maybe that might help with it ahaha) im looking forward to future fantasy book recommendations!
You should try Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood. It has a more psychological type of creepiness than a supernatural one, but I think you would love it! :)
Hi Chris! Thanks for the reviews. I have Mexican Gothic - you’ve inspired me to read it! Ohh I can’t wait to get my hands on Gentle Chaos ❤love that guy!
Oh I didn’t know that you had been on booktube ☺️ I’m a follower now! Some years ago I enjoyed The graveyard book as well. And I’m one of the people who actually liked the shadow of the wind 😁 actually I should read the second book now that I’m thinking about it. I’m looking forward to more videos 🤗 but also I understand why you stopped, I was on (the German) bookstagram for a while and then stopped posting because of the same reasons you mentioned 🥴
Hi Chris, very nice video 👌 I don’t like reading literature, but I enjoyed watching you! I have seen you in Benji’s videos, I like you both a lot, and it is a pleasure seeing you being the protagonist of a video for once! Wish you both the best! ❤
Yay Chris and yay spooky books!! I enjoyed Mexican Gothic and picked up Velvet Was the Night by the same author.. still have to read it but also want to check out the books you recommended!
I am ecstatic that you start making bookvlog again. When you took a long break and deleted the first two, I kinda get a sense that you might not be enjoying it. And I totally understand. Youtubing is not for everyone. But I'm surely glad that you're giving this another try. But above all, I just want you to be happy. Btw, this lighting is very flattering on you, but I think you look very handsome always, come rain or shine. 😄
i wanted to get into reading more books and this is totally perfect! love the calming atmosphere and how you explain your thoughts on each of the books! keep up the work and i hope "youtubing" gets more comfortable for you lol
Hello Chris, im soo happy to follow your channel. I love to read books my fav are murder mystery but i also love weird and creepy stories to so thank you for sharing❤

Commenting on here because this is spooky book theme and they are my favorite genre. Ones I love dearly that I think you may enjoy: Southern Book Club's Guide to Killing Vampires and In the House in the Dark of the Woods
I have the Southern Book Club’s Guide to Killing Vampires but haven’t gotten around to it yet, I’ve been meaning to read it for sooo so long! I’ll get on that lol
@@chrislibrary I had to put it down a couple of times, I def had to re-evaluate why I was reading it and why I wanted to finish it. In a weird way I felt like I'd be letting Jude down if I didn't finish hearing his story but tbh I'm still processing it and I'm reminding myself it's fiction.
Benji with his plants and Chris with his books really just brought my two favorite hobbies together. Love this video!! I sometimes read the same things over and over because I'm overwhelmed by the options of choosing a new book but getting recommendations will certainly help! thanks chris!!
