- In this video I focus on a few of the lingering items to get the the XL125s road ready! The bike is insured, the plate and registration are on the way in the mail, and I sold my KLX250s, so this is my only street-able bike right now!

Hey I just pulled the bottom fork oil seal out and one of them I scratched taking out with a flat head screwdriver. The other came out with ease using wd40 and taking my time using pressure to leaver it up.
My bike has the same exact crack on the chain cover screw hold.. great vid. Thanks!!

Great video and camera angles. I am working on the '79 XL250S and similar issue. Previous owner cut the wires to the lights as he rode it on a farm for years. I needed just this video to help restore the wiring layout. Thanks !!!

@@blastworks My brother bought one new in 1979. Told him never to sell it to anyone but me...guess what he did.🤨. Took me 4 years to find one and drove 300 miles to pick it up. I have the XL500S too.

Thanks for taking the time to touch base Trent! The rack was already on the bike when I bought it. I'm not sure where it came from. I'd sell the one I have if I could remember where I put it!

Great videos on the XL..I have just finished my rebuild on a 1980 XL125SA...I started about 1and a half years ago!
I need a sprocket cover where did you get yours?
My sprocket cover bolt hole is also smashed like yours!
Mine was with the motor when I bought the bike way back when. If you are trying to track one down, your best bet may be eBay!
My baby same as the one you have an XL-125 with an 185S engine is rotting away and i'm keen to get it back on the road.. unfortunately i wont be able to get the kind of restoration that you have done.. which is excellent btw. It has much the same issues as mine.. mine is minus the kick decompression set-up so it gives a pretty wicked back sometimes.. I was told by many that the best way to do it was to do the grunt work yourself.. but mechanics in my part like to keep things to themselves... this is a heaven sent as i can easily follow the videos and actually have a go at fixing my own bike for once.. and i am looking forward to that.. you should put this up online on some website as a course.. its the definite guide to restoring this pretty amazing bike.. do you know.. its got a history in the Afghanistan war against Russia? yep.. this is recorded in a CIA blog as the bike that was taken off the inventory of the Pakistan Army which was training the Mujahideen on the Pak Afghan Border alongwith the CIA>. and this is officially the bike that they selected due to its durability and easily acquired parts and dependability.. this is the bike of the Mujahideen and it won the war against Russia.. The CIA recommended this bike and it was issued to the Mujahideen.. I can imagine two mullahs on this bike one carrying an RPG and one an AK going over hills looking for Russian forces... what a history... THis you must keep.. its 6 gears.. and its the same engine that the CB-180 had and the 1974 Honda Roadmaster which had a single exhaust had.. its a classic timing chain engine.. ( that you have to adjust or it will cut through your head cylinder...your efforts here have made it possible for me to do this restoration myself now.. many thanks for an excellent teaching experience.
Thanks for the kind words Omar, and yes, I actually am well familiar with the role that these bikes played in the Afghan-Russian war! Absolutely amazing motorcycles that allowed the Afghan forces to nimbly outmaneuver their Russian goes!

Would you know how to adjust the chain on that bike? The left side of the chain doeant have a bolt.
Hey Jules, if you look at the swingarm diagram here at this link (www.cmsnl.com/honda-xl125s-1981-b-canadakph_model20113/partslist/F__1900.html) you'll see that there should be an adjustment bolt on the left side of the swing arm for adjusting the chain tension. It is labeled #18 in the diagram.

I want to know from which company I can order the original spare parts for the entire electrical system or at least where I can find something of quality in the United States, I appreciate if you can guide me.
I usually start with ebay using the part numbers that can be found on the site cmsnl.com. On that site you can look up your exact model, get the part numbers that you need, and then search for the part numbers.
Hi I've got a XL 125s already restored it and built brackets to extend rear shocks 1 and half inches no more rubbing under rear fender. Did you say you had a185 motor in it where did you get it and how much did it cost?
185 motor came in the bike when I bought it!

It did! It's been great ever since!
So I have mine running. The pilot jet screw is set correctly according to my Haynes manual, but the bike idles super fast and the idle screw doesn't seem to have any effect on the idle speed either. What else could the problem be? Is it possible the throttle cable/twist grip is set incorrectly? Really can't think of what else is causing this problem.
That's a weird one sim! High idle speed points to running lean or the idle screw being turned in too far. Other than that, the only other thing I could think of is the throttle slide actually being stuck and not sliding all the way down where it belongs.
I saw you used BBQ paint for the engine...
How did you paint the rest, such as the gas tank (and frame?). Did you use primer and how many coats did you do?

Just a question. Is the cylinder head of the xl185 same as the 125s?
Hey AliwaS! I don't believe they are as there is an automatic compression relief that goes to the head via a cable from the kicker on the 185 that the 125 doesn't have.

Hey Darren. I usually use cmsnl.com to look up part numbers as they have very detailed parts diagrams and breakdowns, and then I search online for those part numbers in conjunction with model name and number and usually find what I'm looking for. Most roads lead to ebay!

Is that little 125cc engine able to travel with traffic? What is the top speed?
It's actually a 1980 XL185 motor. It easily keeps up with city traffic and will do 100-110 km/h on the highway, but I rarely ever take it out of the city.
Am about to swap my honda scooter to a honda xl125s, is it worth it or should I swap it to other bike?
Personally, I think it is worth it!
Does this have 6 gears?
I have 1979 XR185 Honda that has 6 gears. I converted to cafe bike
But still learning its mechanics.
Hey David! The 125 does have a 6 speed transmission. I have a 185 motor in mine so it has 5.

Do you know what the speedo gear ratio is on these bikes? I'm buying my own speedo but there's so many different ratios to choose from here in the UK.
Hey Sim, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you. My understanding was that there would only be one gear that would fit in the hub for these bikes, so I'm not entirely sure.

@@blastworks I'm hoping to get a non-stock speedo actually but I may end up getting a stock one if I can't. Actually I should clarify I mean the speedometer itself not the speedo gear that's inside the front hub. I'm just not sure what kind of speedo ratio I need for this bike? Should it be 2:1 or is there a standard ratio for these Honda bikes? It has to be in MPH so that confuses things even more haha.

Is it a 47 tooth sprocket on the back as stock?
I'm not 100% sure of the tooth count on the sprocket, but it is the original sprocket that came on the bike from factory!
That original rear sprocket of yours that came on the bike from factory is it a 56 tooth sprocket? I have a 1982 model and still trying to install a new sprocket into it but don't know the exact number of sprocket tooth.
@@ernestoelogada3622 I'm not 100% sure Ernesto, I think the 49 stamped on the sprocket in the link below means it is 49 tooth. Here's a link directly to the original sprocket on a 1982 Canadian model, you can probably count the teeth on the sprocket! I'm currently away on holidays so I can't get out to the garage to count them!

Are parts hard to find on these
Jonny, I use cmsnl.com for their parts diagrams, and from there I type the parts numbers into google, ebay, amazon, etc... and that makes it relatively easy to track down parts.
