Had one, my first brand new vehicle of any kind. Got it in January '81 on clearance, man was it cold! Rode it all over, smacked it up fixed it rode it some more. Sold it when I got Harley-itis. Was a fine machine. Thanks for the video.
I remember back in the day midland tx was selling bad gas full of sand had to take the carbs apart and flush with bottles of alcohol and put it back together I got it stolen back in 1987 ,had the best time on my cb650 custom I got five speeding tickets in one day rack that up to dumb youth it’s a great cruising bike and amazing power this video is so endearing to me ❤

My dad was also the CB 950 so it had larger carbs and motor obviously but by the looks of that Carburetter pack I would still come in diesel fuel overnight to really help loosen up all the filth and diesel fuel is the best for doing that because it won’t harm the carbs

This belongs to a client of mine, so unfortunately, the only way that work will be done on this bike is if they need it done. There are plenty of videos here on UA-cam of people doing exactly what you are looking for on this bike and others, and whether it's the exact same bike or not, the process will be 99% the same!

This bike is a fantastic little bike but I like the 750 better good choice for keeping it wish I had kept mine keep it between the mustard and mayo and rubber side down GBU later
i'm a bit late to the party, dissasembled my carbs, very helpful video! however.. there were no air cutoff valves in any of the carbs. didnt spot any in your video. could you confirm this please? because i do see them in the manual downloaded from your website, but not on the component parts list of the carb in same manual, thanks!
In the stack I worked on, if you look at the video at this time code ua-cam.com/video/R3M_kN9hpNk/v-deo.html you'll see that the second carb from the left has the air cut off valve, you'll see that the bowl is different and has a post that goes up through the carb where it can get actuated.
I’ll save you all the time like I said already it’s the carburetters there’s spark there is fuel there is a clean gas tank because you drained your gas before parking for the winter and drained your carbs hopefully and another thing as well those bikes the best thing for them because they do take a certain battery is over the winter put them on a 6 V trickle charger disconnect the spark plug wires and stereo
So on mine for the spark plugs, they're wired 1-4 and 2-4 BUT the top one is 4 and the bottom is 1, does that make a difference or should I swap them? I haven't changed them, just remember them being wired different from yours top to bottom and wondered if that's why mine won't fire up.
You'll still get spark whether they are wired in proper order or not, but because they are out of order the spark is coming at the wrong time. I'd connect them correctly and that should at least put your plug firing order correct.
@@blastworks also another question is, my bike idles at about 3,000rpm, even if I adjust the idle screws, other than that, if I throttle it it'll cut out and seems to have a lot of white smoke come out of one of the left hand exhausts. Any idea what this could be?
No way in hell Road ready those for carburetters have to be completely disassembled cleaned retuned or if you wanna call it each one individually Hass to be set so the motor fires right that was the one downfall of those Motors was 4 large carburetters on a two cylinder motor I guess they thought feeding it more fuel would give it more power not the case at all every year my dad and I in the fall would pull the exhaust off the carburetters off break them down throw out the gaskets and seals into a plastic bag in case we needed them for next year to make our own which we’ve had to do a couple of times because they don’t make them anymore and to get the thickness of some of the gaskets just right you’re sitting there with 4000 grit sandpaper taking literally half The thickness of a hair off at a time and over the winter we would just leave them apart gaskets ready to go O-rings lubed up and every year it was an entire weekend of tuning each carburetter so each one would poor fuel into the motor at the exact same time we’re talking milliseconds so there’s never ever going to be a road ready after a season of sitting over the winter that you can sit on turn the key and it will start and my dad‘s bike was in showroom condition he even changed the tires every two year to 3 years just because the side walls for those was known for the design in shape they would develop cracks and that’s the last thing you want when you’re going around a mountain pass corner on a bike that is four times your weight and the vehicle comes the other direction sliding the side of the tire just enough to make it burst him and my mom when he first got it took it on a trip to Edmonton and back and he had a little camper trailer that he towed behind his that was designed for it and my mum still tells me how they were caught in a storm my dad had the bike leaning on a 45° angle because of the wind and the rain and she said if he brought it up anymore they probably would’ve been thrown into the mountainside
This bike is 4 cylinders. So 4 carbs to 4 cylinders. However, I do agree that the carbs have to be fully broken down and the jets have to be verified clear and varnish removed, then each carb has to be adjusted and synchronized. Synchronization is after the valve clearance is adjusted, timing is set, and then the idle speed and carbs can be synchronized

I agree. Get used to the feel of an "analog" bike, and learn a thing or two about working on them and maintenance!
When I do works like this first thing I do is to connect a heatlhy car.battery via jumpercables and then a charger

I have this exact bike we just got it road ready but I still need a new odometer and brake fluid res, but can't find on original
