I saw the name and I already knew I found gold. Clear, detailed, to-the-point and funny. The definition of an amazing UA-camr.
Wow! Three strikes and I'm... IN! Thanks very much Botond!
Instablaster...
I want to thank you geofatboy for teaching me how to shave with a safety razor, because of my job I need to have a baby smooth shave everyday, and the Gillette cartridges would cost 1/20 of my salary every month due to the inflation in my country.
You helped me to make the most of my salary so I can afford food and when I had no fatherly figure to ask you were present so many thanks for your videos.
Thanks Franco! I'm glad you found this channel and that you are able to save some of your hard earned money for important things, like food! Those cartridges are expensive!
@@geofatboy in my country, Gillette cartridge refills cost RM30 for TWO cartridges. Imagine u paying 30USD for two cartridges...
@@imransuhaimi3522 I could afford them at my place, but the dependency from any company is never desireable
I wanted to say thanks for all your hard work in making and sharing these videos. I am 58 and over the last 40 years I have used either electric or multi-blade razors. I have never enjoyed my shaving experience. I found your videos and I have moved to a single blade and handle. I picked up a badger brush and a few shave creams... so now at 58 I finally enjoy my shave! Thank you so much!
9 years ago I was sick and tired of paying for cartridge type razors and learned that double edge razors and razor blades were still being manufactured and used. I watched a lot of your videos back then and gave me a good feel of what to do when DE shaving. Based on your recommendation back then, I bought a Merkur 34C HD. 9 years later I'm very much using that same razor and saved hundreds of dollars during that time. Thank you Mr. Geofatboy.
Thanks for sharing! great choice-Great razor. Enjoy!
Here is a man that truly enjoys what he does.
In many countries boar brushes (usually Omega brand) are pretty much standard at barber shops. Good backbone, durable, and affordable.
I think the reason is that the price is quite reasonable as well!
One of those rare UA-cam videos that is recorded in good quality (bonus points for good sound in a bathroom!) and is well organized and goes strait to the point. Absolutely fantastic, that was the most helpful video I've seen on this topic.
Uncle Geo does it again!!! Love your videos. Thank you!!
I feel like I can never find good videos on shaving brushes, lather bowls, and soaps , thanks for the tips !
Very perfect video, everything explained in such detail.
Some other user mentioned the quality of your speech and I must agree. I don't need subtitles when watching your excellent videos, I understand every single word you say. My native tongue is Portuguese. Keep up the good work!
Geo.. love the Simpson synthetic brush with large knot. The use of poraso cream plus my feather blades have taken shaving to the next level! Thanks Geo
Hi Michael, I'm guessing you mean the Trafalgar T3-Nice brush! bit.ly/TrafalgarSyntheticBrushSN
Great info.
Thanks for the video!
A long long time ago, I started out with a best badger and now I use a well broken-in Boar Brush with Proraso shaving cream and a bowl. Zen!
Ohmmmmmmmmmmmm
Hi Geo- Great brush overview; thank you! Nowadays, when choosing a new brush, I usually opt for a synthetic knot. As you mentioned, they have come a long way. I hope you have a great start to the week. Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, Geo!
Thanks Mike, have a great weekend.
Very clear and informative thanks for the info
Thanks Angelo!
Great show geofatboy.
Great video for someone who is new to wet shaving. I only have three badger brushes at this time, but would definitely have to say that my favorite of the three is my vintage near Mint Rooney Best badger with a butter scotch handle which I acquired for only $54 and change.
Butterscotch-Yummy!
Good info! Thanks!!!
Comprehensively informative!
I enjoyed the video once again. I have been enjoying the synthetic brush world lately. 🇨🇦😎
Thanks Paul!
Geo! I bought your gold dollar razor and left a review. I want to thank you for carrying that because since I've had it I finally improved my stropping game to where it needs to be for my Thiers-Issard to cut properly. Thanks so much!
Great to hear! That's awesome!
Great video :) as always very informative, very well paced. Lookin' great!!
Thanks Vito!
Thanks geo I have been waiting for this one.
Thanks Mike, glade I could come through on this one.
A really good and very informative show. Your the Tony Soprano of shaving.
Thanks 👍 I'll take that.
Thank you for your helpful and informative videos. Been shaving with a Gillette 5-blade cartridge for years. Shaving in the shower, shaving every other day, I get an estimated 50 shaves out of a single cartridge. Planning to go to DE, probably a Henson medium. Oh man, so many variables. I really would like to get the titanium version, but will first have to add up all the accessories before I decide which trigger to pull (Citori Superlight analogy there). Looks like I'll be shaving after the shower rather than during.
Great video!!
Great info 💚💚💚
Thanks!
Thanks for this very good and informative video Geo.
Thanks Mark!
This is awesome
Love your videos geofatboy, I've been a subscriber for a while now and always enjoy checking out how to better your shave.. Just bought my shave nation bowl yesterday and look forward to someday getting a straight razor from you.. Keep up the good work, you really are the best when it comes to shaving..
Thanks Marc! Greatly appreciated. Wait-Only shaving?😂
Hmm interesting video Geo I myself have my favourite go-to brush and that is a Yaqi synthetic (because I prefer synthetics) Cashmere knot is so soft and I have yet to find any brush that comes close to comfort and ease of use - highly recommend this one.
Love these videos u should do a shaving history 101 in the future
Really had no idea, thanks!
Happy to help!
Thanks for "brushing" up on all those different types Geo, top lad.👍
Ice- I can always count on you to come up with that icy one-liner! ⛄❄️
@@geofatboy 😁😁👌
A really good video :-) Your speech is so good, that i can understand every single word, even though i am a german language native speaker.
Thanks very much! That's 10 years of changing and tweaking different variables to get the sound where it's at today. Thank you for noticing and commenting.
Excellent video, Geo.😎
Thanks Rick!
i got my fist synthetic brush a simpsons trafalgar T3 - i love it
Hi Geofatboy, Thanks for all your advice. I have different tipes of brushes and love every one of them. I’m looking forward to have the shave nation fire and smoke but it is out of stock. When will you have more to sell?
I’m huge fan.
Thanks, Great
Thanks Nawaf!
Nice video, Geo. I'm a fan of Semogue boar brushes.
I think they would be a nice addition to your store. Cheers!
Thanks for the Rec! I will look into the Semogues.
Great video like usual and I like my Synthetics, I'm not sure if you mentioned that synthetics can be quicker to dry in open air because they are not hollow core hair whisker like a badger or boar hair. Synthetic brush hair also does not need to be soaked prior to the shave. You sure covered a lot in a short time period on this video!
Yeah-What he said! Thanks Ron!
Everything Brush. WELL DONE
Thanks!
Nice video Geo.
Thank you Samuel!
Thanks geo
Thanks Adel!
Geo. Fatboy. Is. The. Man. !!!
Hi Geo, A great video on shaving brushes mate. I think my favourites are my Simpsons Chubby 2 Super badger, Chubby 2 synthetic, Taylors HT2 and HT3 Contemporary Super badger brushes, Simpsons Trafalgar T2 & T3, Executive shaving (Alpha in the US) ultimate G4 brush and my Simpsons X2L best badger brush.
Take care and stay safe Sir!!
Dave.
Thanks for sharing-Good stuff!
Would love to see a review of the semogue 1305 boar brush. Thanks
Haha. Great video Geo.
Hi, thanks for this great tutorial video. Is dual band badger the same as silvertip badger?
Great video as always. I’ve just ordered an Edwin Jagger ‘Super Badger’ brush. Have you tried that? Would be interested in views.
I always use a badger brush
Nice!
Geo, nice info..... synthetic brushes just don’t do it for me.....boar brushes are ok, and I like to used them with soaps that are are to lather, but a good silver tip.... heaven! Thanks for posting this video,
I must say-I agree on this one!
I didn't know Harley riders shave ! I always have them in mind like the ZZTOP guys 😬
Geo,
All important details in short time
Thank you so much
Thanks Krish!
Is there a stand that can accommodate the larger knots like a Simpson Trafalgar T3? I also heard with synthetics you don't need to hang them and just stand them up on it's handle.
Geo if I use a different brush some days, how can I keep my other brushes. Possibly in a cup? Or how do you keep yours.
Hello geofatboy. I recently bought a silvertip badger. The company advises to use it vertically like a painter's brush as opposed to use it in circular motions. I also read a few times in a variety of sources that silvertip brushes are really delicate. This video is informative overall, but I wonder about the care one must show in regards to silvertip badgers in particular. Should I avoid circular motions? What other tips must I follow in order to make it last? For as you know they are quite expensive. Thanks for the video.
Nice Ferris Bueller reference in the end.
Thanks Karmo! Unfortunately I don't own a robe, or I would have donned it for the spoof.
Can't you get one in electric blue?
@@karmo0 LOL! Robe or shaving brush?
@@geofatboy Why not both?
Hey Geofatboy, What's better for someone who's finding themself having issues building a lather with a badger hair brush? Should I just buy a synthetic? Would that make it easier?
Geo, I really wanted to purchase a Simpson Chubby 3, but after looking at the price I didn't realise I had to purchase the badger also! 👍😂
They are not cheap...shavenation.com/search?q=chubby+3
@@geofatboy
Your prices seem cheaper than Simpsons own website!
But after adding postage and duty to that, I reckon it would end up being more expensive!
I will buy something from you soon, just to say a massive THANK YOU for your valuable videos my friend!
All the best, Neil.
It wouldn't be geo if he didn't clear the runways 😂
Thanks for the review mate best regards from the UK 🇬🇧🏴
Amen to that! Thank Tony. Best from the USA 🇺🇸❗️
Hello,
I really enjoy your videos. I have recently switched to shaving with a safety razor. I do have a question that maybe you or another person may answer. When you use your brushes in your videos I always notice "holes" that form in the bottom of the brush after you dip your brush in hot water. The shave brush I have does not have those crater like holes after dipping it into hot water. Why is this? Thanks.
Where do you recommend getting resin handle brushes?
Hi, I just start watching your videos, and I realy like it, you are the best.. can you tell me witch razor is better, I know they are not top quality, QSHAVE Adjustable Safety Razor Double Edge Classic or FEATHER Hi-Stainless Double-edged Holder Razor Popular... I have been using razor blades with cartridges for 15 years, and your video made me change, and now I want to try double edging razors, so ai need your help... Thank you
With shaving brushes losing hair. I've been using them since 1964. They all do it over time. Speaking as an artist and illustrator the hairs of premium, sable, hand made brushes do the same. They start to go bald after use. One has to clean brushes right down to the furell. Hanging upside down and drying carefully helps to prevent the problem.
Funny ending! Lol
SAVE FERRIS!
Great video!
I have a red handle yellowish whitish synthetic omega brush, every time loses a hair.
Best advise ever: "Buy as a traveler because sooner or later you will have to pack it"
Omega Boar Brush with Black Travel Handle seems intreasting...
Edwin Jagger Pure Badger Travel Brush-Black AMAZING!
Parker Pure Badger Silver Travel Brush a bit retro?
Merkury ones seems cool...
How about a video with all the products made by shave nation?
In your 3 slides of brushes there was also the blue travel brush you showed in the video.
And as I remeber you have a video of a leather bowl indistructible by the car... how about a video of all your products?
Thanks Arbër! All the Shave Nation products? That would be one long video. Anything special you'd like to see?
@@geofatboy no no😅, I meant all the shave nation products made by shave nation. Not every product the store sells. Hope I propperly explayned my self this time😆
By the way, are you in a motorcycle club or free rider?
Love your channel Geofatboy, thx to your advice I made the switch to safety razor a few months ago and I can't believe it took me so long. I wonder what is the life expectancy of a good badger brush, mine is 30 years old at least and still feel like it's up for another 30.lol is this expected or am I an exception? I did pay a pretty penny for it though.
Thanks for your kind words and support. What kind of brush are you owning?
Nice Video, just saw it.
Have one question:
Long handle is good for bowl lathering and short handle for face lathering or is it vice-versa?
Your answer is here: ua-cam.com/video/GE9kdhuNsfk/v-deo.html
Hi Geofatboy. I am wanting to buy a new shave brush for my husband and I have no idea where to start. He has quite thick facial hair (migrated from his head LOL), and only shaves every second day. Any suggestions? I'm in Australia.
😂 lol I was gonna call you out on clearing the runways but you beat me to it😂
Ha Ha-I kept you hangin' till the end on this one though...
geofatboy yes you did Geo, love your videos! For some reason I’m too spastic to get that figure 8 down, I should slow down the video and study it better:)
Can you suggest me please a shaving brand with flat top brush?I can't find anything. In the vidoe wich is the brand?
To clean or disinfect your brush (for those who cut themselves and continue to lather over with their brush), mix some mild baby shampoo with a little alcohol or Dr. Bronner's castile soap and just wash it in the sink or your shaving bowl.
I clean mine this way every month or so. It performs better when you regularly clean or wash it. Just don't leave it in too long.
Good tips-Thanks Jon!
What kind of glue is used to keep the knot in the handle? I have a brush where the knot came loose and came out
Hi from the UK Geo! Absolutely love watching your videos. I was a bit apprehensive about starting to use a double edge razor. Had one for about 4 months sat in the bathroom draw but never used it, after watching your videos I’m glad to say I’m now 3 months in and shaving is now more of an experience than a chore. Your videos put me at ease and they are full of great information. Would you be able to make a video of your top 10 shaving soaps or creams as I’m currently just using a Wilkinson sword one and would like to try something different also do you ship to the UK as I would love a Shave Nation lather bowl and coffee cup! Keep up the great work and have a great shave, have a great day! Regards, Nate.
That's Awesome Nate! Enjoy your shaves and the videos! Bowls and cups are always in stock! shavenation.com/collections/bowls-mugs-cups
Hi Geo, is there any way you can turn a make up brush into a shaving brush?:) where I live it's been almost impossible to find a shaving brush (I got one from RazorEmporium which is why I got one in first place)
Try lathering with it and see if it works. If not, we sell some very reasonably priced brushes: bit.ly/AllBrushesSN
Super Geo 😎🍻🇮🇹
Thanks Fabio! 👍🇺🇸
Ese final fue muy bueno jajajaja
Hey, Geo
Should you condition your badger brushes??
Yes: ua-cam.com/video/8NMhYtrCovI/v-deo.html
i use the dr squatch synthetic brush and it never split at the ends
What is the stone brush you have in this video? Didn’t see it in the link you have.
It was one-timer, a gift to me.
Hello, do you recommend me natural hair brush or synthetick one, for home use as a bigginer?! Which one is better?
As a beginner, either one will work for you!
any noticeable water retention differences b/w other badgers and silvertip badgers? or the difference in badgers is purely touch to the skin / feel of the brush.
Slight difference depending on knot size and grade of badger.
Are there any benefits to lathering with hair conditioner with a natural brush every once in a while?
Shampoo, then condition the brush.
What is the name of the brush shown at 2:45?
Great video Geo. So I go to the Greek Orthodox Church, And know many Greek people and I can tell that you’re Greek, Would you like to talk about that sometime in one of your non shaving related videos? I think a lot of us would be interested
Hi J. I'm always looking for new video topics. What would you like to hear about me being Greek?
Anything really, If you go the Orthodox Church? The Greek culture, Whatever you can think of. I just know that I’ve found the Greeks to be the greatest people I’ve ever known and when I realized you were Greek too I thought "That’s a good guy right there"
Horse hair brushes are very scritchy but good for hard soaps
Agreed! Scritchy is one of my favorite shaving terms, along with Croap!
Can't go wrong with the proraso brush
That's true. I love it!
Good stuff! And reasonably priced: bit.ly/ProrasoOmegaBrushSN
I read somewhere online that alcohol based aftershaves are not good for skin in the long run. They can cause dryness and irritation. Personally it makes my skin very tight and I have to apply something soothing afterwards. What is your view on this matter ?
That's true-I've mentioned it in many videos. Many Gents prefer alcohol free balms: shavenation.com/search?q=aftershave+balm
Thank You.
Today I removed my first knot, by steaming it, I ordered a new knot just got a wait for it to get here. I also got some good gorilla glue epoxy, so that sucker will stay there for a LONG while
If that epoxy expands, you don't want to use it...
Okay Geo, here’s the pregnant question: If you had to pick just one Silvertip badger brush to use for the rest of your days (price no object), which one would it be and why? Asking for a friend (LOL)! 🙏
Hey Geo, what would you recommend for someone with black facial hair that's just still visible at the surface of the skin after a shave?? Haha.
And what's your tip for getting rid of a razor burn face? Can you make videos on any of these??
Do you use a safety razor with a sharp blade? Say like an R41 with a Feather blade?
@@geofatboy I use a safety razor with a feather or the triple coated one laser ultra. I've shaved while showering and after and even did 3 passes: with, side and against the grain while lathering in between. Can't manage to leave my face without a little sting and no aftershave that actually works with soothing.
@@geofatboy sorry it's long haha...
Is brush size correlated to face size ?
Not really a consideration in my opinion.
Silly question when should you replace your brush
Only if the hairs fall out or you have some other issues with it.
Good information. Sounds like you're reading a script or teleprompter!
how to condition or do you need to
