Hey, Sean, I sold my 2007 Yamaha Silverado 1100 and bought a 2018 Rebel 500. I'm 74 years old and been riding different bikes for 55+
years. THIS BIKE IS NOT ONLY A BEGINNER BIKE, BUT A WELL SORTED COMPACT MOTORCYCLE THAT GOES LIKE HELL. I'm not apologetic about the bike when me and my buds (all have 1100 bikes) go on 800+ mile trips, this baby keeps the pace, but I end up more relaxed at the end
of the trip because I'm not hauling around extra weight. I commited the sin of adding a windshield (not pretty, but comfortable), a cool, inexpensive exhaust, and a custom tailight, now it's my custom. You guys keep up the good work on these videos and Honda you keep up the
good work too. Ride on, Bros!
Ride safe man💪 I just bought my Rebel 500, and i just love it from day 1.
You take 800 mile trips with them.
74 yrs old?? Holy dude, drive safe and I wish you all the best!
How tall you are and how many lbs/kg you have?
I need a relationship as strong as that sticky note
Haha! If I could give this 2 thumbs up I would. If you find that girl let me know if she has a sister!
Read what Sean writes on ‘em, and you’ll improve your odds! ;-) Happily married for 23 years to my sticky-note girl!
Tell me about it. I'm right there with ya.
No ship
The new Rebel's are really cool! I like how they made the frame larger than the old Rebels so they look more like a full size motorcycle. Obviously the styling is much improved as well.
My friend would park his old Rebel without putting down his kickstand. He'd just lay it down like a BMX bike and pick it back up when he was ready to go.
im sure that never flooded or leaked lol
+Jonathan Norris haha that’s funny
Why o why ????
@@crockie2230
I know what I have.
For sale...one Honda rebel. Never dropped......it was laid down carefully.....daily lol
500's are great, I bought a brand new Suzuki GS500F in 2007 as a starter bike.....Still riding it. It never breaks down, Enough power to have fun, Gets me back and forth to work and weekend back road jaunts are a good time.
That sticky note got some strength though
"The old rebels are entry level girls bike. I don't recommend guys trying to buy it" Not all of us guys are 6'3'' my friend. There are lots of short, petite men that can't go grab a big as Honda Rune and be good to go.
he didn't say "if you're a guy, start on a ridiculously huge and overpowered bike". He also said that this new Rebel is great for beginners and experienced riders alike. I find it funny that you managed to get butthurt over this...
Had a nighthawk cb750 went in to finally buy a new bike and I fell in love with the rebel 500 it's light and strong enough I hit 98 on the freeway I have no need to go faster than that ever.
How is gas mileage and range with the tank? Would it be a good bike for multi day trips?
@@qislegit.donttrustthemedia6232 about 55 to 62 Mpg with a 2.6 Gallon tank. So on a full tank gets about 150 miles on a full tank give or take.
my rebel has over 100,000 miles.
when i got bored i did an exhaust.
then i did an intake.
then i did jets.
then i ported and polished the head.
then made it a rigid chopper.
i never changed the breaks.
*ITS TERRIFYING*
Lmao
OK but what’s broken exactly? The forks? What’s terrifying? Is it missing a wheel?
Brakes barely work. Assuming the engine is slightly more powerful than stock.
Love your review... I'm about to buy a 2020 Rebel 500 so this has me more pumped! Thanks again
did you buy it? how is it?
@@JBLaOHeI actually bought the 300 to save 1200$, should have gotten the 500 lol...
@@michaelshelnutt1779 hows the 300? have you been on the high way with it? i am trying to find a 500 right now but all they got are 300s

ive never set foot in America all my life... and yet, I know exactly where you are going.
Michael Dy to Wendy’s?
😂😂
@@swayzone87 I'm surprised thats our stereotype aside from us being dumb lol.... I'm not sure what's more insulting lol
I have the CB500FA, which has the same engine. It is just the perfect size for urban riding that is part city part interstate. At 65 to 70 mpg you cannot go wrong. I am a big guy, about 250 lbs, and this is plenty of bike. I have given serious thought to buying a Rebel 500 because it sits low and handles very well around town.
I have the 300. Not bad for a 118 lb guy. Cant flatfoot, but i dont need to with a bike that light. As long as i stay on pavement. Droped it on grass in my yard twice.
@@samus4799 how tall are you? And do you still have the rebel?
@@rainypath96 5' 7". And no, never bought the rebel. Had a 2004 VTX1300c for a while, it was fine. Dont worry about flatfooting a cruiser, you'd have to be like 4' 6" to not be able to.
Its crazy that entry-level bikes are now 500+ CC. I started on a BMW F700GS (Detuned 800CC) and just switched to a 1870CC Harley Breakout 114. I will say something though, even though I passed my Harley academy test etc (We don't have MSF where I live), I wish I had a small Ninja 250,300 or 400 sometimes to just throw it around without the "fear of weight" and learn faster and ride more often.
That's to get the price up. The big manufacturers don't want to sell ANYTHING less than $4800, so super size it. The teen market really has no logical real bike under 25hp and for a few thousand ($2000 or under used) until they reintroduced the CB125 this year. However you must jump from 125 to 300/500 for street standards.
If you actually bought the HD breakout I feel sorry you and your extreme stupidity...
Stevo McSteve Why? I love the bike, great cruiser, just upgraded too fast. Adding a Ninja beater to my stable next week for practice.
The 1999 CBR600f4 is carbed and makes great useable power with a very friendly powerband, completely stock i took mine past 160mph and its the last of the carbed CBR line. The bike is a jack of all trades. I paid $2,000 for mine. People thought it was a 2010+ and the Harley dealer thought it was a Ducatti hahahha
does nobody live in that town wish we had roads like that not hammered with cars
That’s the midwest for you lol plenty of that. I live in Ohio. Can’t wait to get my first bike here soon & hit the backroads 5 mins from home.
Move away from cities. I live on Long Island, 60 miles from city, best of both worlds.
It's Pennsylvania no one want to be here
9:12 "You make or break a bike by the horn" [wimpy horn tweet-tweet] LMAO!!!!!
I still have the Rebel 450 sitting on the side of my house, I'm going to give it to a scrapper. But that 450 was actually a good bike.

I like mine... I’m 5’6” and 145lbs .
My 500 will take me up and down Ozark mountain roads with no problems... I twist the throttle and the bike says “yes sir”.
It handles on the curves beautifully and handles slow ridding great as well.
Just finished watching OZARK ....series .

If forward controls could be easily added, this would be a perfect motorcycle in my opinion.
One of the very best things about your reviews and comments is your mention of the Scriptures, sometimes with and sometimes without, a short follow up comment. Make no mistake, people hear this and it reaches people. Old Christians like me love hearing it and those who are not believers in the Lord Jesus always hear it and wonder....you sow, we all reap. Please stay safe.
I really like my 2018 rebel 500 I think is a good investment.
**Motorcycle as an investment*
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
@@robotbjorn4952 why's it funny for a struggling person to have to settle with a motorbike? It's less expensive than a goddamn car
Chris Rife yeah that’s only if you put it as simplistic as possible. He had hardly any room for storage. Can’t drive anybody else around unless they want to saddle up too. More dangerous. More likely to be totaled.
An investment should produce a return at some point. Neither a car nor a motorcycle are smart investments, i’d consider them expenses.
did you get it new or used? how much you pay for it?
@@ULTRAVISTA. I agree man. Wife and I are looking at getting bikes for commuting to work. She wants a rebel 500 and I'm thinking the CB500
Love your wisdom comments. Right on!
"It's not what you riding but where you going" Yeah great quote for somebody that does MX.
I really like the look of it. Honda is kinda going with the Lotus method of power. Lightweight with enough power. Wet the Rebel is under 370 lbs. An Indian Scout 60 is over 600 lbs. it has about 28-30 more HP than the Rebel 500. It’s going to waste 20 of them on the extra 200+ lbs.
Both are thought of as beginner bikes. I’d argue the Honda is a little more clickable at that light weight.
Decent little bike, especially for the money.
Don't even try to compare the scout 60 to the POS Honda rebel. Like comparing a Honda Fit to a mustang GT...Less power than the Scout 69 but like 3 times the hp of the Rebel...SMH
Honda website has the 500 at 408lbs.
My first bike was the 2017 Honda rebel, 2 months later I traded it for the 2017 indian scout 69. I don't regret it, but that Honda was a blast to ride. Flickable and fun for sure. Still miss it a little.
Stevo McSteve probably more like a v6 convertible mustang, but most of you can’t tell the difference between that and a guy after putting a gay a exhaust on them
Hondas halmark is having a a low weight sufficient hp vehicle. Like the civics have always had less hp than competition but also alot less weight. So dont compare lotus method to honda aproach because honda was doing that since there inception to tge western world.
I LOVE going back on your videos and just reviewing your "words of wisdom". It really helps put life into a different perspective. Thank you for all that you do. I hope to one day have a bike of my own. Keep doing you man.

I love this bike, got it only a couple months ago and its the best!
Thanks everyone, I think I'm now good for what bike to start out on. Much appreciated!
Do it. Put it up against the Vulcan S, I pretty much decided the Vulcan S is gonna be my next bike but I like the looks of the rebel more.
Bought the new rebel500 i love the vulcan s but i found the rebels sitting position better and more fun to ride than the vulcan s coming from a 2005 fz6

Agreed. Much agreed. Religion is like a penis. Its nice to have one. Even nice to be proud of it. Don't go waving it around in public though.
I bought a 87 Honda Rebel 450 this summer. I think the 450s are great starter bikes and surprisingly I’m only the 3rd owner of it. I love the bike it’s not the fastest in the world but it just a great starter bike regardless of gender
Great anything bike. Had one with 30k+ miles I rode every day. The overdrive gear is what really makes it awesome. Took it all across Oregon from Idaho to the coast to Washington and California. Had almost 50k when I sold it. Still ran probably better than the day I got it too. I'd keep it forever if I could ever find another low mileage one
I personally put just over 12,000 miles on my 450 Rebel. I hang it on the back of my RV or camp tailor and use it for short trips to the grocery store, sight seeing, or just cruising camp... also road it in Strugis one year when I drove my RV instead of riding my...
Victory Magnum 106 cu.in. 88bhp but best of all 5.95 gal gas tank and a 6 speed. Since the brand was discontinued I cut a deal with a local dealer to buy up his inventory that would fit or adapt to my bike. I have a rebel 450. They were WAY ahead of the times.

can someone put a TLDW? I dont normally ask but his dude just rambles on
which one is the best motorcycles for beginners ?
1. Ducati Scrambler sixty2,
2. HD Street 500, or
3. this ??
I would say this bike... just because it’s by far the most reliable
I'd take the Honda over the Duc or HD for a new rider or as a commuter any day. The Street 500 is heavier, and makes less power. The Rebel 500 isn't a rocket - but it's plenty petty for highway riding. And the Honda will be more reliable, with less maintenance than either of the other two.
Video starts at @5:40 you're welcome.
I got my Honda Reble 500....2019.....and it’s the Best of the best...Okay.... I really love it....Lots of people like it and maybe some other people don’t......

I wonder why there are a lot of negative comments here. Are these guys subscribers? Sean usually just rambles on. That's his thing. He's just usually excited.

Hands down one of my favorite bike channels Sean's personality and the great information just top notch
I have this bike and the torque is amazing, can pull the front wheel if you want it too.
do you have to loosen the lug nuts or they just fall off by themselves?
hi buddy (I’m watching this old review as I’m looking for a second hand rebel at present) just wanted to say thanks and hoping that your new glove sales went as well as you’d hoped! Peace ✌️
been looking for a smaller displacment bike been riding big bore for over 25 years your videos are extremely helpful welldone and very informative....wheres your dealership and do you ship to michigan?
I've been riding since 1997, legally, lol. Had tons of bikes, I recently bought a CB500X, the rebels cousin, and also own a 1200 Sportster currently . Although the Cb500x is not the fastest thing I've owned, am pretty impressed with it and love it to death. I've ran through the thought in my head of selling the Harley and getting a rebel 500, but just can part with my Harley. To be honest though, this summer put WAYYYYY more miles on the cb500x then the Harley. I just ride and keep going, just racked the miles
This thing is a great Bobber Chop just waiting to happen. It already has great lines for a bobber an doesn't need much. Drag handlebars, off with the fenders and everything behind the seat support, a spring seat to replace the stock, relocate the rear lighting and license plate bracket, shorten (open) the exhaust pipes, and bingo.
i really like the look of it but i wish they did a bigger more powerful version
shadow 750?
Look at Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber and Bobber Sport, Yamaha Bolt and Bolt R-Spec, Harley Davidson Iron 883 if you like the bobber type.
Honda CTX700 best engine super smooth 60 real miles per gallon
They made a Rebel 1100 with the new and revised Africa Twin engine
Then buy rebel 1100 simple
I test rode a Honda Forza 300 and couldn't believe how quick and smooth it was. You'd never know it was a 300. They know how to build a motor.
Im 6 foot 1. Could i buy this bike for commute and touring? If not, what other bike would you suggest that is similar in terms of style and size?
The Yamaha TW200 has now lasted longer than the old Rebel 250. The Rebel came out in 1985 and ended in 2016. The TW came out in 1987 and is STILL being made, 2019 model listed on Yamaha's site with no indication of it being replaced. However, in other parts of the world models from the 60s are still being made.
Just bought a CBR650F and I'm actually considering trading it in for something like this because I just like to cruise around on the CBR and don't feel like I need twice as much power to do that.
500s were considered middleweights in the 1960s. 500cc is no joke and the light weight doesn't hurt anything.
Seems like with the rebels people buy them when they get there permit then sell them for something bigger when they get there license
Youre 6'2 and you were comfortable ... but how did you look on the bike.. like a grown man riding a kids bike? I'm right at 6' and I'd seriously like a 500, but it's gotta "fit" me..?
quick answer, you're 6 foot? the 500 is too small a bike for you
The best thing is probably the new steep fork angle so you can actually go round corners, along with the fat tyres.
"don't know if this one has ABS" well it's raining so one easy way to find out, handful of front brake :p.
I like the Honda CB500x and F better. Same engine better ergo for taller people.
Cb500x is the best all round average bike to do everything on.
The x is so cool. I'm super short and it's not even that bad.
Nate Quickmire how short are you
Sadly I'm manlet height, so I'm having to hunt down a starter bike for shorties
Wisdom is like a rock it's really hard to break it.
that is the thing that worries me, I bought the Honda Monkey 125cc this summer and after 2 mnds I'm looking for more power, so the rebel is not a good upgrade for me then, since I know after a few weeks I need a little more power again, so it might be better to go full license and get one of the heavy ones, do not take me wrong I love the monkey it is so much fun, but it is so limited to where I can ride, but I never going to sell it :),,,,, and to add to it I'm close to 50 and last time I had a bike was back in 1987, but it feels unsafe to ride with lack of power you have no control
Nice review. I particularly like the words of wisdom segment. I'm seriously thinking of learning how to ride. I live in Mass. I was channel surfing on you tube looking for bike videos and I came across this channel. I'm a subscriber now. The Rebel 500 sounds like a really cool beginner bike. I like the Vulcan S and the Harley Sportster. I looked at naked bikes, sport bikes but I think I would prefer cruisers and touring bikes. I know people hate on the Honda Goldwing but after watching a video review of the 2019 model, I was wowed by how refined it is. I'm probably going to take a safety course and get the endorsement on my license. I can drive a stick shift so that should help, maybe? Thanks for the video, cheers!
in the motorcycle safety courses they teach you about the clutch and shifting the gears, you can show up knowing nothing but all they require is you have a dot helmet eye protection proper boots and also gloves
Which bike has more buzz, the tu250 or the Rebel 300?
I wish Honda would bring back the vtx serious. Those were some nice looking bikes. I have a 2007 vtx 1300r it's my first real bike that I got at age 50.

Riders responsibility, all machines are not made perfect. Close tho.
The bad thing is as nice as they were, they couldn't hardly give them away... I mean when all Harley was selling was a anemic 88 c.i. V-twin Honda was selling a beast motor 110 c.i. for thousands less and they sat on the floor unsold... kinda sad
Happy to hear you like the rebel! I bought a rebel 500 as my first bike last July. I use it as an every day commuter in philly. I love it but don't have anything to compare it to. I want another bike but don't want to sell my rebel. I may just keep it long term, customize it a little and get another bike to start a stable.
Don't sell your 500. You will regret it before it is out of your hands. When it's gone it is gone and you will move on a wish you would have never sold your fun bike. I bought a CX 500 when they first came out in the late 70's, one like Shawn was talking about except it was set up as a cafe bike and it was by far the most fun bike I think I ever owned. It never failed and it took all of the abuse a 21 year old guy could dish out. You will regret it forever.

Dude ride safe or dont ride, to film yourself with a pole camera and one handed is ridicuolus, dont be foolish.
the Magna V30 500 was a good bike, smooth, quiet, easy
Personally I don’t like the rebel 500 ergonomically as much as the 300 version. For one simple reason, and that is that on the 500, the side case on the transmission sticks way the hell out and is lopsided off to the right side of the bike, and makes you have to awkwardly push your right leg further out than your left.
Is a new 2019 Rebel 500 from a dealership for 3.7 a good buy??
I think so. Dealership here in California has the abs version at 6199
My bets in -> 650 cc Vulcan S will kill it But its still Honda reliability and fun to ride as are all bikes. In fact I bet it kills the Kawi in long term reliability.
I only got approved for a Rebel 300, but I love it. It's a pretty fun bike for a starter. I'm gonna keep it for the wife to get her endorsement. Horn sucks. I think its wimpy and I have the same year Rebel 300. Now I'm curious on the 500.
I own that same bike. I love it. But if I only had the patience to put the new exhaust and Viking bags on it. I also own both sets of gloves. Kindw like the tactical ones a bit more

The cheapest one that seems reliable, because you're gonna drop it.
would really depend on what your looking for and where you live.. average around 3500
Yeah good question
I have a 2008 rebel 250 with 1200 miles, it's goes for about 2k on a good day. I picked it up on auction for $950 tho lol
Mabye a very stupid question. what's the difference between rebel 500 and rebel cmx 500?
Same thing... CMX500 is the model designation - with the Rebel 300 being the CMX300. Honda kept the Rebel name from the previous CMX250, as it's widely synonymous with an easy to ride motorcycle.
Again, brilliant video, and the choice of bike are so uniquely wide Sean, but really the bike for sale o start on is a Yamaha Virago 125, do love them when they were first release... So that's my bike if choice, but love the this video of Honda Rebel 500, love it, thank you once again for an enjoyable show... All the best to all
What a shame. The old rebel was underpowered but a fun ride. This thing is just a hot mess.
