Carolyn Leung yeah he luckily has won other awards but it’s just sad that this production of spring awakening didn’t receive many tony nominations or win any awards even though it really deserved some
I saw this production at the Wallis-Annenberg in LA a couple of months ago, and it was incredible! This cast is insanely talented and this is such a beautiful adaptation. Wish I could see it again on Broadway!
I didn't realise before watching this that Spring Awakening is based on Frühlingserwachen, which we talked about in school. Now I wish I could see this musical even more! Although I don't know much ASL and mostly DGS, I have a feeling it would be very touching.
I really want to see this a.) because I love Broadway and b.) because I'm actually certified in American Sign Language. My best advice for the HEARING ACTORS: 1.) really work on your facials and Non Manual Signals (N.M.S). These can be anything from the look in your eyes to your body language. The clearer you make it, the better. You may feel like a clown doing it, but what's more important is making sure you're understood by your d/Deaf peers and d/Deaf members of the audience. 2.) Come up with a Sign Name before opening night. A Sign Name is the first letter of your name paired with something you like. For example, my first name starts with a K and I like music, so one of my sign names is "K" followed by the sign for "music". Practice your name so when you're introduced to the audience, even if it's only at curtain call, you can use them. They're kind of like passports to the d/Deaf community.
All of the actors in the cast have sign names that were given to them by the deaf cast members. (Fun fact: Krysta's sign name is very similar of Ilse's sign name in the LA production)
The guy who plays Melchior sounds incredible and his facial expressions are amazing! I see a Tony nomination in his future!!
lilzerz this comment didn’t age well
oh this ones just sad now
Sorry I don’t mean to be nosy but what happened? I know he didn’t win a Tony but he did win several others.

@@Emma314 That I agree, it's a production unlike the others. It really deserves better.
I like the original, but this revival has so much more meaning tbh. I love it.
Casually crying because of the beauty of this kind of adaptation.
Sandra Mae Frank (I think it's her) dancing in the background of Bitch of Living is the cutest thing ever.

DOES THAT GIRL ACTUALLY USE A WHEELCHAIR OR IS IT JUST FOR THE MUSICAL??
+TheLittleWorldOfJulia She actually uses a wheelchair. Her name is Ali Stroker, and she was on Glee for one episode.
She's also the first person to be on Broadway that has to use a wheelchair for mobility.
