    My garage is 2.8 meters high and most of the heat rises up to the last .5 meter. I use an old ceiling fan blowing down will mix the warm air with the cooler air below and it makes a big difference in the comfort.

    There are two heater sizes 3KW and 5 KW. I believe the 8 KW is done by over-fuelling and running at 13.8V. A part-discharged deep cycle battery will probably never get above 5KW. It needs 13.5V to boost the fans for increased air flow. The downside will be significant heat lost to exhaust. Lower efficiency.

  • @markdidonato8951

    Because of your high ceilings you need a ceiling fan to bring the heat down . The other issue is the size of the shop . Plus better insulation is a must! With these things I mentioned that unit should work!

    • @diygaragecrafts
      @diygaragecrafts  Рік тому +1

      I was aware of those issues already, but still.....
      This is a workshop, high sealing is a must for some aplications, a door can be opened multiple times a day and ventilation can be a must to when you are welding, grinding or start an engine.
      This may work for a workshop if the user is using for electronics, IT or anything that can be considered clean work, but lets be honest most of the people that dedicate a construction for their hobbies is becouse they cant do it inside the house becouse of the reasons i mentioned before.
      I still dont consider this suitable for a workshop and i do not recommend it, its nothing more than a cheap improvisation.
      A heat cannon would be more suitable and cheap to run.
      This Chinese Diesel heater can eat between 5 and 10 L a day in my situation, and belarely brings up 3 - 5 celsius degrees.
      A heat canon burn 200 - 250 ml in 15 min. But after 15 min you room heats up like crazy.

      A heat cannon throws out a lot of moisture. Every litre of fuel makes a litre of water plus CO2. The diesel heaters separate the exhaust. They just need a heat recovery system.
      For a tall ceiling, you should place the heater high up and feed the hot air through ducts that exit in your working areas at low level. A large workspace will need more than one diesel heater.

    • @Dave5843-d9m
      @Dave5843-d9m 19 днів тому

      Your living/working area needs a CO monitor. That’s the toxic stuff. If the alarm goes off there will also be CO2. Exhaust gas always has CO2. It might have CO.

    My garage is similar size with the same type of ceiling, the whole garage is insulated, I've not run mine for more than 5 hrs, but in that time it's taken the temperature from 5c to 12c and when I'm busy in there it's definitely warm enough.
    I've got a WiFi RF hub to control it remotely now, so once I've set that up I can run it for a few hours before I go in there if I'm not home.

    You have it installed to high on the wall. That way it heats only the top part of your garage, the bottom air stays cold at the bottom just because it is colder. Secondly you should insolate your walls also and make them air tight. Tonight at 8 pm I had 12°C in my garage while the outside temp. dopped to 0°C and it isn't heated at all

    I've just bought an identical heater and tried it out in my 100m2 garage with 3m to 4.2m ceiling height. The ceiling is insulated with 80mm thick Kingspan KS1000RW insulated roofing but the walls are only partially insulated at present and I am working to complete the wall insulation using 150mm thick mineral wool and plasterboard or OSB3 sheeting.
    So, I ran the heater this evening at full power for 4 hours and it only raised the temperature from 8C to 10C with an outside temperature of around 7C. After I turned it off it took 2 hours to return back to 8C. So what I take from this is that my garage is losing heat at 1C per hour and with the heater on I can gain 0.5C per hour. So the heater is producing 1.5C per hour of heat into the space but losing the majority to the outside environment. And this is with a modest 7C outside temperature so clearly I have work to do!
    Yeah, not great but there is no way this thing generates 8kW of heat. I don't think it generates 5kW even though it advertises itself as a 5-8kW heater. But the main issue for me is that my insulation is only 20% installed and I also have a few draught issues where I've not sealed various air gaps.
    Anyway, let'd see how it performs once I have completed the wall insulation and sealed up the major air leaks. I suspect it will still be pretty poor and I'll probably end up with a wood burner or secondary oil boiler to heat the garage but we'll see. I'll be partitioning the garage into a gym/snooker room and a workshop so the heating needs of these two spaces will be quite different. I think the diesel heater might be sufficient to heat the gym/snooker room but not the workshop.

    I'm going to use some flexible dryer duct and put it around an extended exhaust (I already have both) and run a small DC fan at the bottom of the heater where the exhaust starts and split it off before it goes outside. I should be able to nearly double my heat output from 1 heater.

    • @Dave5843-d9m
      @Dave5843-d9m 19 днів тому

      We lose 20% heat to the exhaust. There is only about 1 KW exhaust heat from a 5 KW heater. Maybe a little more if you turn the dc voltage to 13.5.

    FYI
    I have a 10×12×8 shop space, well insulated.
    My unit is rated at 5KW. Let's do some basic math using actual measurements.
    Diesel Fuel = 137,000 btu/gallon, 137,000/3785 = 36.2 btu/milliliter.
    Displacement per pulse = .02 milliliters.
    Minimum pulse rate 1.4 or 5040/hr.
    Minimum Fuel consumption per hour .02x5040=100.8 milliliters
    36.2btu×100.8=3649 btu/hr INPUT
    3649/3.41=1070 watts (max 4356 watts)
    For Diesel fuel Auto-Ignition Temperature >= 410F
    IMPORTANT .... Burn chamber must remain above auto-ignition or efficiency drops off.
    Typically 30 btu/ft² required for a space with a R13 insulation value.
    With outside temp of 10'F, Inside temp averaged 50'F using 3.5 liters fuel in a 24 hr period.
    Overall efficiency somewhere around 86%

    The unit is 6x2,5meter and like 2,3meter high and its great for that,i put the heather outside in a box and replaced a window with plexiglass and made 2 holes in the plexi glass for intake and and vent.
    Its really good for that size rooms with that isolation level i can crank it to 27 degrees wenn outside being around 0 without a problem and fuel consumption is not bad like 3 4 hours on a litre wenn its cold.....

    You say strange things. I heat 25 m2, 4 m high and the stove works at minimum speed. Frequency 1.2 Hz and I have 18-19 degrees. Only when it's colder I increase the frequency to 1.4-1.6Hz. Never use it on high speed mode. And my stove is in the other room.
    The silencers are not airtight. They are for outdoor use, not indoors.

      My shop is 55 m² and a 3m height, that makes165 cubic meter as a volume.
      You say that your shop is 25m² with 4 height ( strange dimensions ) but anyway, lets say 100m³.
      Which outside temperature do you have when inside you heath yourself up ?
      I did all my tests at a temperature of -3 , -5 degrees celsius.
      This diesel has no chance to keep you warm during winter and believe Belgium is not the country with the most harsh environment.
      Probably for you does some healting, volume of air is smaller, those dimensions you sayd, sounds more like a rental so im pretty sure not all your walls are directly outside walls.
      If you heath yourself + 20 degrees is becouse probably you have some particular advantages which in most workshops dont happens to be there.
      - shop where you let the door is offten opened, in my case a 3.2 meters long door.
      - a shop where you have to use a smoke extractor becouse of welding or whatever.
      This diesel heather has no change to keep enough heat on going. Is to weak.
      Instead i use now a wood stove, heats up my volume of 165m³ in max 25 min.
      -5 degrees outside, + 18 inside.
      If fill it with wood the second time i can get even +25.
      So no thank you, i can give you my diesel heather for free if you need it.

      There are several things “to do/check” with such kind of heaters. First - you must measure distance between internal blower (it is inside metalcase) & body. It must be 0,4 mm, while from factory comes with random values. Next way better is buy & change fuel pump to universal with green cap for such type - it is way more silent & possible to adjust volume of fuel it pumps. Details on both can be found in youtube channel @wearefromestonia approx two years ago stories. He disasemble heater wihout that red case & shows. Also need to use subtitles as he speaks russian.

Y se calienta uniformemente el radiador? Muchas gracias, me unire a tu canal. Saludos desde España.

    • @diygaragecrafts
      @diygaragecrafts  Рік тому +1

      Hola. De hecho, no mencioné la temperatura del radiador cuando está conectado al escape.
      Pero se calentaba más por los gases de escape que por el agua porque había menos pérdidas de calor por los gases de escape que por el agua.
      La calefacción no llegaba uniformemente a través del radiador.
      El radiador estaba muy caliente en la entrada y menos hacia la salida. Si desea utilizar gases de escape para calentar un radiador, elija un radiador de gran diámetro, 1/2 pulgada es demasiado pequeño y crea restricciones de gas que provocarán fugas de gas.
      También tenga en cuenta que en el radiador se producirá mucha condensación, que también puede bloquear la salida de escape, así que supongo que tendrá que inclinar todo el radiador y asegurarse de que el agua pueda salir fácilmente y no limitar el escape.
      Ten mucho cuidado, puede ser peligroso, si quieres experimentarlo, monta un sensor de CO2 en tu garaje.

      If you ensure your stove a good air flow you can't even see the or smell it.
      Here in Belgium people still use old diesel in their household systems and they do a bigger mess then my Frankenstein stove.
      But again, I'm not sure about your position between neighbors and stuff, the only thing I can say is that the smoke is not bothering at all and if it would, I'm pretty sure I would have had some guys dressed in blue at my door right away.
