It’s time to kick off the 2024 OnX Offroad Build Challenge and that can only mean one thing - we all drag our stock beaters to one place and compare their performance BEFORE they get modified.
This episode was a ton of fun to film and I hope you all enjoy it as much as enjoyed competing! 😀

As you guys have probably seen in previous episodes, my little 2002 Jeep Liberty is already pretty capable & my plan is simple…I’m not going to try and impress you with my fabrication skills, although I will need every bit of skill I have for this project.
WHAT I’M BUILDING: A solid axle swapped 2002 Jeep Liberty that will be sitting on coilovers and 37” tires wrapped around Beadlock wheels.
WHY I’M BUILDING IT THIS WAY: Because of you! To me, this build challenge is about taking a modest (yet realistic) budget and making something fun and capable. First Gen Jeep Liberty’s are both cheap and plentiful. They have decent 4x4 capability stock and, with a set of easily accessible takeoff Dana44s from a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, some used tires, coilovers and a custom long arm suspension - I think this rig can hang with anything else my competitors build (and be a few thousand dollars cheaper 😀). - Авто та транспорт

Hollie I want you to know that I appreciated you and Mattys efforts on the channel. He really seemed to be enjoying helping you and Walter. This hit especially hard for me as a middle aged dude that doesn't exactly take care of himself well. Regardless of whatever happened to Matty it still makes you take a step back and think about things. I've actually lost sleep over this this past week. I wish you guys the best on this years challenge and still look forward to what's next on the liberty build.

Honestly, it was cool seeing everyone interacting with each other, strategising with each other like survivor, and helping each other from time to time. All bets will be off as the builds set in for the most part.

I think I've only seen Matty in one of your videos but I'm seeing he has left a lasting impression of a jolly person who liked to make a positive vibe spread through out the crowd. We are energy in the physical form but the other energy is still present. Continue being you and he will show you in an paranormal wy he's still around y'all and the event's.

That’s really cool to hear about the Eclipse. I had friends in Dallas sending me photos and it was eerily dark at like 2:45 - the street lights were on 😮

I knew you blew everyone away w that 17 second climb! I also know that most people dont give the Libbies a second glance. My 2 have been places and accomplished things they werent supposed to. Going to miss Matty as your backup genius at fabricating, but I know he will be watching and perhaps planting a few ideas in your head along the way!

Epic. Glad you beat Bleepin 😂. Although I appreciate strategy, there's something to be said about simply sending it. This year is gonna be interesting. You vs Rudy after last year. Matt vs Colt AND Nate. My top 3 in no particular order will be Paul, Hollie, and Colt.

Crazy Fun! I've never see a used Jeep Liberty without a broken auto window lift mechanism. Jeep should have developed them farther because they are great little vehicles. Make a great project out of it Holls!

I finished my solid axle liberty about a year ago! a little smaller than what you're planning, dana 30 front on 31s, but it performs amazing off road. If you wanna do any research or see how i did it, hit me up :) I think yours is gonna be killer, and I can't wait to see it in action! I used a JK steering box, the steering coupler from the liberty fits, so you just have to shorten the shaft about 2inches, and flip the bracket to make it fit.

@@MischiefMakerTV you're welcome! The other main issue I ran into is frame width. The kj frame is about 4-5 inches wider than a tj or xj, so I struggled to get coilover placement just right. I'm not sure if your axles are wider, so you may not have a problem. 🤷🏻♂️

is it just me or did the tug of war against Nate actually get won by Nate?
He was pretty close at one point! But I’m sure one of the 30 people there with a better view probably would have said something.
wish the participant requirement wasnt 37's.... 33-35 range wouldve opened it up to alot more unique rigs...
That’s a good point. I will speak with the marketing team and see if we can get it lowered to 35s. I think a skilled driver on 35s should be able to easily handle the terrain we are expecting for these builds.
@@MischiefMakerTVwould love to hear a change be made, i play in the small tire world so 35s are big.... even though my locked axles can handle 37s, id have to reengineer half the rig just to clear the tires... lol i hope you can rewrite the rulebook for us on this one...

Looks like it's yours to lose. Your Only competition was the dude with the Willys Wagon which did not sound like a 60 hp Go-Devil. Whatever it really is you beat it. Voting for you but remember like last time some of these other people have heavy followings. 🥇🏆
I don’t think any of us can beat Paul in votes, so everyone is competing for second place 😂😂.
My goal is to build something realistic that others can easily emulate and also build under budget. And in terms of ‘winning’ if this rig can outperform the group and be a top 3 in terms of capability, I’ll be super happy and definitely consider that a win. The final trip is an overland trip, but I’ll do way every rock crawler does and show up with just the basics - no roof top tents and fancy 3 course meals for me, just a few diet cokes, some lunchables and uncrustables and I’m good to go for 3-4 days😂 (honestly, the Liberty probably won’t even have a roof ✂️✂️😈 so hopefully it doesn’t rain #fulltimeopentop )
Between the tug of war and the gate challenge Paul also welded both diffs into spools on the Willys. It had some sorta v8 in it by the time he got it, though it had seized and he did dump a different one in. Videos on the fabrats UA-cam channel
