This is still my favorite sandwich. Perhaps it is because I am almost 80 years old. I live in Canada, but grew up in the Netherlands. I make it with Mayo or Miracle whip. I then add either chopped Onion or Chives in season. When purchased from commercial establishments, they tend to use chopped Celery.
I don't know what Miracle whip is. It isn't available in the UK. Also we don't say mayo as that name is reserved for a DJ called Simon or a county in Ireland. Onions or chives sounds good.
I'm glad this video is a thing, Lucy is such an awesome addition to the videos, your banter with her is absolutely amazing Also, an egg/mayo mix (ordinary mayo, that is) is very common here in Denmark, we call it "egg-salad", although the egg chunks are more mush than chunk here, and we'd also season it with salt and pepper, and sometimes with curry spice

I was born 2 years after Lucy and I associate more with James than her; everyone I knew growing up had these classic sandwiches for packed lunches. How on Earth she has never tried an egg sandwich before is beyond me.
I haven't either, but that is because I'm an Asian American whose diet rarely consists of bread, salad dressing, or sandwich spread. The closet thing we have to an egg sandwich is a steamed Chinese bun with egg.

She seems so out of the loop to regular people that my assumptions are more than fair. Unless I'm proven otherwise, of course.
@@HenrikoMagnifico not eating sandwiches and being in your first job is not enough to be privileged and coddled. She doesn’t just “hang around with James May”, she clearly has actual duties and jobs, she’s not actually meant to be on camera, and besides, James May is hardly the peak of celebrity stardom, she’s not exactly privileged to be hanging around eating egg sandwiches with perhaps the most normal British television personality out there. Your comment comes across as so bitter, like your projecting your long held disdain for this so-called “privileged” generation onto a quiet woman who’s biggest crime is not eating sandwiches and not being very lively in front of camera.
Since the guessing was on what was in that spread, I hade to look it up. Wikipedia goes: Heinz Sandwich Spread is a blend of salad cream and relish popular in the Netherlands and Britain. It is classified by the manufacturer as a sauce or relish. The relish ingredients are carrots, celery, gherkins, red peppers and mustard in a finely diced spreadable form. Main ingredient: Salad cream.
I am, in fact, having an egg sandwich today for lunch. I've basically eaten these things all my life, and really can't remember a time when I didn't. Chopping up the egg is also so much easier if you do it in the bowl with a fork.
Even as a 90's/2000's kid, I ate pretty much everything James has put on this series, from crisp butties to peanut butter sandwiches. It's not a Generation Z thing to not do all this, but it is a shame to think that James will see Lucy as a representation of Gen Z.
I mean everyone is different too. I was born 1990 and I have seen The Battle of Britain and my tastes and dress mirror James more than Lucy. I will say also I was brought up in the Midwest so being stuck in the past is sort of our prerogative. I took a lot of my taste from that upbringing, but also broke away from a lot of it as well. I think it brings a lot of advantages and older people take to me far better than most of my generation, which is advantageous for me.
It's more of a social class thing than a Generation Z thing. James mentions that Lucy is more posh, and the fact she usually eats takeaways is indicative of how she doesn't have to worry about money. Meanwhile, a working class family will have to make every single cent count, which means being creative with what foods they can afford.
People give Lucy too much hate just because she doesn't fit into the same group as middle aged men. They just need to accept that she has different opinions on food and respect it.
At the exact moment May fumbled the salad cream, I knocked my fork off my plate, spilling a bit of food, as I was wiping up the bit I spilled I heard May and the crew laughing about his fumble. That’s making me feel hungry. Reminds me of holidays walking in Wales, Sandwich Spread Egg sandwiches with garibaldi biscuits for pudding - or a plain club if we’d been very good. Happy days.

I guess that is the difference between England and Australia... My mother used to make egg sandwiches for us and she mashed the eggs with butter, using a fork, so then it would spread nicely on the bread. Usually served with lettuce in the sanga as well. Yeah me too :(
I got one egg-slicer (from my parents), it's older than me and still works perfectly!
Me too, it's from 1995 and still does the job
I've got a real old one, don't even know the year, that's broke a few times and I just keep fixing it lol.
I looked for ours from 70s at the earliest. Sadly, my folks must have tossed it. It was quite handy!
I got my dad's toaster. It's from his bachelor days. He's been married to my mum for three decades. I think I'm going to get electrocuted one of these days.
That actually sounds rather nice
It would be mine too, if it wasn’t so infrequently that I get myself organised enough to cook eggs ahead of time.
I don't know what Miracle whip is. It isn't available in the UK. Also we don't say mayo as that name is reserved for a DJ called Simon or a county in Ireland.
Onions or chives sounds good.
This is like if James May had a daughter, and he raised her in his Man Lab.
If he had a daughter, she would know how to turn wrenches and maybe still have grease under her nails.
@@rhondacrosswhite8048 And then maybe sit down for a nice paint of the scenery.
I'm glad this video is a thing, Lucy is such an awesome addition to the videos, your banter with her is absolutely amazing
Also, an egg/mayo mix (ordinary mayo, that is) is very common here in Denmark, we call it "egg-salad", although the egg chunks are more mush than chunk here, and we'd also season it with salt and pepper, and sometimes with curry spice
Most of us do not agree that she is a awesome addition to the videos. But it is amusing
yeah there's a lot of unnecessary hate from people with sticks up their arses who like to judge from someone being a picky eater and self aggrandize about their generation being "tougher" or being embarrassed because of how "soft" Gen Z is, bit of a weird obsession if you ask me
@@dcwatashi Who's, "Most". Seems like you're speaking for a lot of people who have their own voices. She's definitely divisive; but plenty of us love her addition to the show.
@@brandonwenzel2844 because I have watched so many of his videos and read a lot of comments. That’s why I know.
@@dcwatashi No, that's why you assume. And yeah, there's plenty of people who don't care for her; but there's also plenty of positive comments also. You're also biased; so of course you're going to focus on the negative ones. You can't say "most". You could say, "many", or "a lot", bust saying most implies way more than you can back up. Especially when again, there's plenty of people who like Lucy and addition to the videos.
I was born 2 years after Lucy and I associate more with James than her; everyone I knew growing up had these classic sandwiches for packed lunches.
How on Earth she has never tried an egg sandwich before is beyond me.
Egg food poisoning is no joke, and egg salad sandwiches are bottom tier lunch items
I haven't either, but that is because I'm an Asian American whose diet rarely consists of bread, salad dressing, or sandwich spread. The closet thing we have to an egg sandwich is a steamed Chinese bun with egg.
@@arthurfine4284 Egg sandwiches are probably the most popular sandwiches in Japanese convinience stores.
Same here mate. I'm Lucy's age but have very different food preferences. But then, I'm not a fussy eater and will eat and enjoy a variety of food.
@@Adi-Dassler Japanese are not the only Asians, so as a Chinese person (I’m assuming based on the Chinese bun comment) he prolly hadn’t had it.
When she sharpened James knife I thought he was going to strangle her
Because she didn't sharpen it at all, she ruined it.
Vidar Haarr give a gen Z a knife for 5 seconds and they’ll ruin your knife. Here’s the proof.
If the angle was right he'd have been very happy. It wasn't.
I’m concerned that she hasn’t made a sandwich for 10 years because she’s having take out but she thinks she can sharper a knife 😂😂
If we really want to be proper, it's honing the knife, not sharpening. I would use the proper angle, but I'm not sure it's really that vital.
"And on that terrible disappointment back to the studio"

Beat me to it!
I'm nearly 60 and I still love egg salad sandwiches.
I'm also still a fan of tuna salad sandwiches. Two staples in my school lunch box in the early 70's.
After the last video, I went out and bought some Branston pickle and cheese.
Welcome to the world 👍
Same here 😂
I bought a rotary cheese grater. I wonder if it'll get used for anything else..
In work and hungry now.
I got the sandwich spread and it is FANTASTIC!
It's really important to sharpen the knife before slicing up boiled eggs. I'm glad you remembered to include that.
I'm not even sure it was necessary to chop the eggs, since you're about to whip them up with a fork.
did she clear the metal peels of the knife after sharpening?
just shows how useless people my age are 😭 never making a sandwich in ten years smh. I made some mean sandwiches when I was 9 😌
To bad the technique is completely wrong and looked like she only did it on one side☹️
If you thought I meant something other than I found this, and May’s reaction, the funniest part of the video, you have the wrong end of the stick. My only question is, which white wine would you serve with this sandwich? Inquiring minds from California want to know.
I'm a pretty understanding person, but I cannot for the life of me understand what kind of human being this Lucy character is.
It's called spoiled by incredibly wealthy parents. Curled until they're grown up, and then they have to re-adjust to the real world or continue live in their bubble.
Lol but true
@@HenrikoMagnifico that is a MASSIVE assumption you’re making there, which says much more about your weirdly bitter cynical underlying feelings than it does about anyone in this video.
@@notryangosling3065 It's a fair assumption based on the many videos she's in on this channel. She's never made a sandwich, she almost exclusively eats take out, even way before the pandemic, hangs around with James May regularly and has never had a job before even though she's in her twenties.
Your comment comes across as so bitter, like your projecting your long held disdain for this so-called “privileged” generation onto a quiet woman who’s biggest crime is not eating sandwiches and not being very lively in front of camera.

salad cream makes a powerful entering
Lucy breaks an egg
And James says "yyyygghhh"
Sandwich spread. I haven't had that in years. Now I have to go and get. Thank you for the memories
We have something similar in Sweden but it is sold in tubes, but tastes as close to Heinz as I've tasted when I can't get the real thing.
that feeling when someone 2 years younger than you gets to make food with James May
Love that sarnies of the 70s is just James torturing Lucy brown with food she doesn't like
I am, in fact, having an egg sandwich today for lunch. I've basically eaten these things all my life, and really can't remember a time when I didn't. Chopping up the egg is also so much easier if you do it in the bowl with a fork.
Yep, the way she chopped at that egg was hard to watch LOL
In Australia you can buy egg & lettuce sandwiches at any 711.
@@ragereset2795 This is true at any 7/11 tho.
@@ragereset2795 That may be, but it wil have mayo in it, not salad cream. Mayo is too bland to make a difference to an egg sarnie.

TIL James May thinks one chicken lays the whole carton of eggs
It depends on the chicken and the carton. lol
i do too
He also thought eggs come from cows at one point
'90s / 2000s **
@@HistoricBlock84 Wouldn't say it was hate, but more disbelief that she hasn't made a sandwich in over a decade and lives off of take away food.
At the exact moment May fumbled the salad cream, I knocked my fork off my plate, spilling a bit of food, as I was wiping up the bit I spilled I heard May and the crew laughing about his fumble. I had to rewind a bit to see what May had done, as I was in the process of fumbling at the same time. There was bedlam for a moment.

I never buy them in a shop because they always put celery in them and I don't like that. I feels like there are egg shells in the sandwich. I don't like things with a consistency clash.
@@cgirl111 Yeah, most places put other crap in them, I like mine pretty basic. One sandwich chain had a good one, but dropped egg salad from the menu, and there was a cafe that did a perfect job, not too much mayo, light salt and pepper, I even complemented the clerk for doing it right.

when Lucy doubles over at James fumbling the salad cream, you know she's just thinking "give me strength."
I guess that is the difference between England and Australia... My mother used to make egg sandwiches for us and she mashed the eggs with butter, using a fork, so then it would spread nicely on the bread. Usually served with lettuce in the sanga as well. If she felt like living life on the edge, she'd put a little curry powder in with the egg! And, TRIANGLE sandwiches are LIFE!!!
