- Chants of Sennaar Part 2 - the second floor of the Tower of Babel awaits us, bringing the Warrior class and their unique language and culture. Why do they keep the devotees out? What are they guarding? We can only know once we translate the glyphs.

I just realized they get their words from constellations. That’s why each word is made of sharp lines. It’s the lines draw between stars

They also dont have personal pronouns at all, which would make sense for a militaristic culture that doesnt care about individuality

I like how every language is not just a different lexicon, but also its own grammar and script quirks.
Yeah bard language is going to be funny.
I don't think Tyler is going to handle the grammar very well.
@@aynonymos It takes a minute but the grammar is basically just changing SVO to OSV and a couple punctuation quirks. Honestly the bards layer got my hopes up for more interesting languages later but then it was right back to just being "match the vocabulary". I still really enjoyed the game but was a little disappointed in that regard.

@@boyo7918 True, though it does make a lot of sense why they didn't. The Alchemist's section was slightly less on language and more traditional puzzle solving and the Exiled's section was very lore heavy. Adding another sentence structure would have just muddied those.
But honestly, stretching the segments out to allow for new structure would be worth it. Imagine if the Alchemists get rid of unnecessary words for efficiency and the Exiles are missing a core concept we have, like individuality as they see everyone as part of the same over-being leading to "I" and "You" being missing?
The editors do an amazing job with the editing and the pop up text next to the face cam always gets a laugh out of me

Next episode: Tyler learns Mandarin on stream for 12 hours by watching movies and treating subtitles like puzzles.
There's another game a lot like this called Heavens Vault. It's story driven with lots of narration in regular language. You are an archeologist in a future nebula that travels between moons and ruins via a cosmic river that you navigate on. You find tons of lost history and slowly decipher the language. Very Treasure Planet esque, with less monsters and more robots.

@@Green24152 currently playing heavens vault, there is confirmation of words, tough I dont know about the requirements to confirm/throw out a meaning. Did that maybe just got added later?
The words do get confirmed. You just have to find the same word several times and have it make sense (then it gets checked off and can't be changed) instead of having it given to you after having all the correct words on a page. The real difference is heavens gate giving you 4 likely words to choose from and no picture where this game gives you a picture or action with no multiple choice. Heavens gate also gives you some hints by talking to Huang and he'll make comments while also telling you about incorrect interpretations you've made for words. Both games do it well
Might I also mention Sethian? Your character writes in a journal things that you've learned and you converse with an alien computer.
another suggestion i have is Tunic, it's a more souls/zeldalike with combat and stuff but there's a whole in-game manual with a different writing system!
i may have spent at least a few months obsessing and writing in that system lol
Tyler missing the one portal and not finishing either language is killing me D: i hope he does go back and do those cause its pretty important for endgame stuff
Dont forget to finish the scrap book. Youll need the translations for the fast travel dialogues. Also the new area was the hardest for me
I think all players missed that one page in the Fortress because they didnt click on the Symbols in the Torch light Area after placing the torch down.
@@nandanthonyI clicked on all the symbols… and had to end up backtracking to grab the torch since I somehow missed on my first exploration of that area lmao

Watching Tyler get so close yet so far to a lot of these translations is really infuriating (and also really fun to watch).
Yeah especially when he has misunderstandings with the easiest words but quickly figured out the words I was stumped on lol
I have the double frustration of him struggling on words I got right away while intuitively getting the ones that I struggled with.

This game is absolutely amazing, first time I’ve watched a Tyler video and immediately bought the game afterwards to play it myself xD Enjoying it as much as you are!
I watched the first video and played the whole game in one sitting immediately after, full 100%. As a language geek I had to, and the puzzles were so good. It's probably already complete by now but the bards language reallllly gave me a run for my money at first due to the sentence structure.

I was so confused about the torch, I actually had to look up a walkthrough to find out it could pick it up
Lmao same. I ended up getting the bellman's glyphs by matching the glyph to what object it looked like (which is basically what they are) and was left confused when I got to the next layer with a whole area unsolved and a third of the glyphs unverified.

As a reward for such a masterpiece you should let your editors see a sliver of sunlight

if you like this kind of language mechanic, you should check out "Heaven's Vault". only has one language but it is much more rewarding.

I'm very glad I didn't watch him play through this and instead finished the game blind myself. Its so much fun to watch someone else struggle in different ways I had not or succeed where I did not.

I have played this entire game, I vaguely remember what the words mean. But I'm gonna watch this entire series anyway, because I like to see the thought process behind things. Your videos will be good for that, since you tend to vocalise your thoughts pretty well and consistently.

For anyone wondering the thumbnail translates to "Impure duties". (The "plural" is sideways for some reason)
Actually, since the plural is in front of 'impure', I think it's 'impures' duty' as in 'the duty of the impure ones' which is a really concerning phrase.

I played this game after your last episode and it’s so DAMN GOOD. I hope they make a DLC with more languages or expanding on the current languages, or with more translation sections at some point.
I like how carry and lay are almost mirror images, but since carry has the vertical line, they can’t be confused for each other, like if a warrior were dyslexic. Also, notice that their locations - library, fortress - are triangles. Arrive, as a verb, has the angle on the bottom, but being an upside down triangle, it suggests a relation to location.
I really like this little cinematic stealth montage. Very original and smooth

i finished it since the last episode came out. fantastic game with a fantastic and very satisfying ending. of course it's painful seeing you miss the things i've found but i'll give you that i didn't find the torch to decipher boat/key/balance (instrument is trivial) until after i had brute-forced it on the bells.
I assume you're recording all of these in a row and you're alreeady done with the game but on the offchance not: good luck, the next area is the hardest.
TRANSLATIONS BELOW, READ AFTER WATCHING WHOLE VID
Most of these Tyler figures out, I'm just reciting it so you can rewatch it while understanding it all
-At the start the banners say 'Duty' and the big symbol which Tyler thought was 'protect' is probably 'wall'
-The comm panel at 2:30 says "You impures cannot go; you impures do not create instruments"
-Statue at 3:40-4:30: side 1 is "warriors push (out) impures", side 2 is "warriors protect chosen" and side 3 is "warriors carry (out their) duty"
-Box scene at 6:00 is simply "carry big crate, carry small crate, warrior push trolley" etc
-Dudes at 10:55 says "warriors wait ___(?) chosen (plural), impures await death" and "bellman awaits bottle" LOL
-Thats really it
SPECULATION!
Tyler is missing 3 symbols, "protect/wall" is one, another is the upside-down triangle on the sword at 10:15 (Tyler guessed only/long/arrive) and the last is the seal on the paper in the observatory at 11:35 (Tyler guessed science/knowledge). The empty notebook page has a treasure chest, a big wall and a guy shouting. The building is 'protect/wall' 100% (fortress? barrier??), the sword symbol could be the guy shouting (call for? sing???) and I guess the stamp on the paper could be the treasure chest? That one doesn't make much sense...
I played this game a few weeks ago with my brother and absolutely loved it. Watching someone play it for the first time after having finished it is super fun in it's own way too huhu
Picked up this game after seeing the last video and 100%ed it in a weekend. It's a blast! The later sections feel especially rewarding imo

This is the first puzzle game I've played before you! I absolutely loved this game though I was much worse at guessing words than you are
The first thing that went up in my head when i seen the upside down triangle on the banner was "if right side up is god, upside down is Devil" like the christian cross
It's really nice to see what I missed! I figured out a lot of these from context but didn't unlock the book entries for them.
I had a ton of trouble specifically with translating between the warriors and researchers since it took forever to find the warrior glyph for scientist in a different context. Was the last one I translated.

I can definitely see this being a nice 6 part series. Also, the 3rd language is quite hard. I did manage to 100% the game and I can't wait until you finish it too.
As always, the editors do an amazing job here. I played through the game after your first video was released, and while I liked the game I had some issues with it. The editors fixed them all, by trimming the boring and/or frustrating stealth/backtracking portions, and actually highlighting the player character on entry to a room when it's otherwise unclear where you are.
I love how he just gaslighted everyone just to get past the guards
from playing the demo it seemed like those fast travel points have some more stuff in its UI, like a puzzle in one of the tabs, idk if you've seen it or just missed it, but i think they migh do more than purely fast travel

This series rocks. I hope later on that you have to use the shapes of the words a bit more, it was needed some in the first area but it was only something you noticed afterwards in this level. That’s something I enjoy about constricted languages.

For whatever reason, I never thought to get the item that allows you to view the telescope. So trying to solve that page with the constellations was needlessly hard for me, I legit just had to guess that one. Guess I learned that the hard way while watching this video 😂

oooooooohhhh, thats what the basement is for and how you use the telescope! I was like "but that's the lens that I had on the first layer?", and never connected it with the treasure down below! I thought that was a puzzle I'd come back to, loading up the ship, and was confused when you never did go back to it.
Since to open the basement, you need to shine the light on the scale/key/etc. already, I didn't need the telescope at all, and left without ever knowing I'd missed anything.
