  • Chants of Sennaar Part 3 - claimed by many to be the hardest language in the game, the third floor of the Tower of Babel does not disappoint! These 'chosen ones' have some strange priorities, but they have problems, and I must solve them by mastering their language.

That was my favorite part too. However, I dislike how it ended up feeling like an afterthought. Mainly, it seems to be that you're intended to learn all 5 languages before you get any real benifit from doing them (they're required at the end of the game), rather than trying to translate with a partial understanding of each language, you learning as well as the people you help translate, and it being important because it gives you access to places that help you learn / connect each language.

I really like how each language has a different sentence structure, and different ways to express plural, questions, and negation. The devs did a great job at that.

    • @thezanycat
      @thezanycat 7 місяців тому +11

Yeah but then (mild spoilers) the final two areas just go back to direct translation. I was hoping there’d be more variation in the sentence structure like the garden, but they never do it again

The Bard's grammar is especially different. The others have slight changes in how modifiers are used, and have different focuses of diction too.

It feels like they're based on some evolution or some real language like Hindi (you know which one)
      For example
Plural in 1st is just put 2 of the symbol

Should keep in mind that the languages refer to each group differently. Devotees call themselves Devotees, but Warriors call them the Impure, so when interpreting their words from one language to the next there'll be a bit of meaning/nuance lost in translation.

I absolutely love the translation puzzles not only for using the knowledge you’ve gotten, but also for them having you account for syntax and context since the languages don’t share every word.

Also I always saw the Devotees' greeting glyph as an open hand, like a wave?
That put aside, this LP is my first "follow-through" after reaching the end twice and it's delightful how many insights I'm still figuring out. For example, I didn't notice all the verbs in the Bards' language had the dot in the upper right. I also had suspected there was still more to the Devotees' vocabulary based on the pieces forming the glyphs, and the broken engraving in front of the purple door was an outright confirmation when it had a glyph showing both the "place" piece and the piece that is added to "human" to make "warrior"!

I love games about discovering languages and making your way through them. This game gets a more puzzle like feeling to it but it is really good

Been playing each floor every night and then coming back and watching Tyler's attempt in the morning and him saying, at the second page "I'm supposed to get this by now, are you nuts?" was so cathartic because I said the same exact thing in my head

I only started watching Tyler this year, but really enjoy all of his content every day. That said, this is by far my favorite game that he's played on the channel, for me this is peak content. Will be bittersweet when this series ends.

I started playing the game when I saw your first video and the bard layer was my absolute favorite. Can't wait to see how you handle the next one though, it is a doozie

Top notch to the editors. Don’t think your little input/puns go unnoticed. I pause the video to read each one. Also… is Tyler really that obsessed with eggplants? Lol.

22:00 - I think the thing that Tyler called a "pinecone sword" is actually supposed to be a torch!
As he ventured past that door, he stepped into the darkness, where monsters live. From what we saw, monster is scared by the light, so it would be logical to have the door to that area show an image of a man holding a torchlight to protect themself against the monster

20:11 the symbol was there, in the top row. the top row was the warrior language but only had that symbol left at the end. the second row is devotee but was missing that symbol.

I couldn't wait for the episodes, so i went and bought the game myself, and beaten it in one 6h session.... It was very much worth it.
Cracking the third language was the most fun, and the puzzles in the 4th one also were quite fun. The part where you also get to translate back and forth gets so cool once you get all of them

This was my favorite part of the game. The unique sentence structure/grammer/syntax was so cool. Non of the other areas really played around with that, except for slightly different ways to communicate plurals. Wish mastering the syntax along with vocabulary was done a bit more, but still a great game!

You're so much more observant than I am, Tyler. Look at how badly I did on this level:
    - missed the compass glimmering in the underground area and spent 90min looking for it
    - missed the fact the broken statue is of a compass, so I had the words for N/S/E/W translated as verbs. So I also missed the fact the verb glyphs all have a particular feature
    - missed the fact the other statue represents the bards' view of the tower
    - got the words for me/you confused multiple times with each other and with the verbs have and be (kept forgetting the OSV word order)
    - didn't identify the weird clown face as showing "idiot"; I had the word translated as "other type" (from the monkey bit, some other type of warrior)
    - like you, also missed the fast travel point
Worst of all, I didn't revisit the earlier layers of the tower after doing the translations. Gonna have to go back to see what I missed!
