Tobias Sporrong, the uncrowned Prince of Grip

  • I know many people kept on asking me this, so here it is.
After King of The Table 10 (good event), which was on the February 24th 2024; Tobias Sporrong (Sweden) who is known the have a grip strength close or similar to Vitalii Laletin came to the Grip Temple on February 25th, 2024, one day after his dominant match against Wagner Bortolato (Brazil). Tobias did great in his match by the way. Congratulations buddy!
So in the Grip Temple Tobias did really great as you can see. And this was a day after his match which will make anyone tired (yes even if it was an easy match it will make you kinda losing energy). One must know that Tobias trains his whole body including Olympic weightlifting. He isn't just focused on AW movements. He is young (26 years old) and very strong. One of the best grips in AW world. He is around 193/194 CM and weighs 130 KG with 8.5 inches hands. Yes he said he does train grip but I am sure he doesn't train it as much like us gripsters. If he really trains grip like Armwrestling, he will be much stronger.
He warmed up a bit and then easy IronMind CoC #3 close few times with each hand. He then closed a CoC #3.5 which Vitali did not on that same gripper when he was here 2 years ago (Maybe a bad day but though I think he could've done it now). He lifted all inch dumbbells up to the 200 pounds. That is very strong! With few month of training I think he will get the Millennium dumbbell easily.
We then went into blobing. Now mind you guys, This is first time Tobias ever touches blobs and Inch style dumbbells. He trains on different handles but not these implements. So very well done to him. Anyway, he did few warm ups on the smaller blobs up to 40 pounds york blob. Then we jumped to the 24 KG Holle fatman blob replica. This blob recently came and is still a bit oily and doesn't hold any chalk. Tobias didn't lift it, and maybe because he wasn't warmed up enough. We then went to the original blob50 and he did it easily. That's a world class pinch strength there. He then did a half of york legacy 50 KG blob with success. Later half of legacy york 120 pounds. He attempted the half of 130 pounds blobzilla but he was a bit tired. I believe he could've gotten it fresh. He later played with my 2 35's pounds pinch plates which is hard.
Tobias also tried some sledgehammer and anvil lifting. He is already very strong, and I see even a brighter future for him.
Next day we hanged with Razaq, Derek Smith, and his partner Bridgette. No grip or anything. Derek had a long day in the sea, they rented a yacht, so he was tired. At least we enjoyed the night!

For those who don't know, this guy is super close to Laletin (world record holder) in crushing grip strength. These 2 are far ahead of anyone else.

To be fair, i believe there should be different handle sizes for different hand lengths as anyone who has long hands/fingers has an distinct advantage with the inch bells.

    • @mxextxaxl393

      -.-
The inch dumbbell has a set handle thickness. It’s all about grip strength to get through the thickness of the handle and it wanting to rotate out of your hand. Yes longer fingers are an “advantage” but if your grip strength isn’t there it doesn’t matter. Tobias has an 8.5” hand which is larger than average but it’s nothing ridiculous.
It’s pretty much raw grip strength.

Thoughts on using one hand through the whole range of motion of the gripper? Everyone I see begins with two hands, squeezing it to near shut, then use the one hand to finish closing it.

Yup just got a 30Kg Inch dumbbell from Nathan Holle along the 24Kg and 30Kg Blob. You are always welcome here.
Edit: You are not weak. You are weaker than the top athletes. Big difference. You can close a CoC #2.5 so that's better than 99% of the world.

@@GripAlawadhi Love the way you contextualize strength performance. Some people aren't able to understand that being weaker than elite athletes doesn't mean that you are weak, especially when your performances are way better than the average guy !

Inch didn't use chalk, to my knowledge. I think a lot of grip guys could do some feats without chalk, but they would have to take into consideration weather conditions, changes in the iron, etc. like a rock climber does with rock.

Tobias said he has a COC#3.5 that he cant close (which makes it like 180 rgc) since he closed a 171 rgc #3.5. A COC#4 is on average 205-215 rgc so its way above his current strength.
