    10 years later and this video is still gold. Took the COC #1 to work, had 3 blokes try it and fail. Showed them the technique after watching this video and they got it! Absolute legend!

    I just got my new 200lb grippers Today....tried for hours and wore myself out. Couldn't close em. Watched this video and closed it twice in a row. Amazing what technique does. Thanks

    Thanks for sharing your gripper knowledge. I got the coc#1 today and closed it with both left and right hand easily after I set it like you explained. I have to get the #2 now.

    Ver good demonstartion Jedd. Very simple to understand and I did actually learn something about handle placement. The inside handle sitting lower in my hand than the outside handle. I am going to go close a CoC #4 now CCS of coarse.

    Hi guys just thought I'd explain my own experience on setting. Used to set the gripper far back and attempted closing. I then started researching and learning about how the top guys go about setting the gripper. I attempted to do this and it proved to be quite difficult. As time went on, I started experiencing quite the opposite. The way that Jedd demonstrates had become easier than setting the gripper far back. It could be how I initially conditioned/coordinated my hands/fingers. Details matter

    The objective is to squeeze them so the handles touch. If you can't get them to touch, you should work on your technique, improve your finish strength, and possibly get a lighter gripper. If you want help with gripper technique, be sure to check out my DVD in the description box.

    @MuggsisGune - I would strive to get your first two fingers on there and then not worry about the last two. Hiopefully you can get the first three on there well, but definitely the first two. I hope this helps. The credit card set is not AWESOME for smaller handed dudes.

    Absolutely, you can close the #3 without full body training, especially with a deep set. The #3.5 is probably a different story though.
    I think progress will be much faster if you train for full body strength though.

    Hey man, this might be weird but im stronger with the non-dog leg side in my palm as opposed to the dog leg in my palm. Same thing when i turn it upside down to do inverted gripping. Is there a specific reason to have the dog leg side in ur hand or are people just normally stronger that side? and second question: Any benefit to inverted (upside down) gripping with them compared to normal gripping?

    Hey Jedd, I was wondering, why does it feel easier to close the gripper by putting it back more? In the video you said that it makes it a lot harder, is it just the way my hand is shaped or have I been training incorrectly the whole time?

    I just bought #2 and I plan on getting certified with the #3 or better but damn with those short ass fingers of mine it's gonna be tough. I decided to jump over 1 and 1.5 after seeing Ivan say he closed the #2 out of the package and I already had a 55kg that i played with so I was scared of wasting money since delivery costs as much as the gripper where I live. I'm like less than cm away or even half a cm from closing the 2 with full range of motion. These tips will probably help me big time to close it and build up my strength so I can finally close it in a certified way.

      Most grippers are way overgraded, i could close those "60kg" grippers for like 50 reps and now i bought coc grippers and i can do only 1 rep with 1.5

    Jedd, if you get stronger with an inefficient technique, since you're exerting the same effort are you still going to be making the same ammount of strength gains, although you won't be able to close as high of a gripper as you would with proper technique? Hope that makes sense

    I can close the ghp 2 in the parallel fashion for like 15 reps, but I can't close the CoC 1 for even one rep.. I only have these two grippers + one really light one for warmup. How should I go about getting reps on the CoC 1?

    Great video, I am brand new to fitness and grip training. Bought the Coc Guide to start. I'll buy uour video, sounds like exactly what I need! One noob question, why aren't grippers closed from the fully open position?

      Some people do that, in training. However, in competition they are set to 20mm do smaller handed competitors aren't at such a disadvantage. The 20mm block set actually comes from the parallel set, which had is roots in the way the original IronMind cert.

    Is not setting it like you do and just doing no set closes for training better for overall power or does the way you set it do more for finger's and no set do more for your palm?

      Lots of stuff to cover, so sorry for the long long long answer...
      This is merely a competition set. You can go with a no-set, if you want, for sure. You will get stronger based on how you train. The way you choose to train should be based on what your goals are. But even with no-set technique, there's a right way to do it to maximize your leverage. Will it strengthen your hand using no set and very little technique and leverage optimization? Of course. How will that carry over to other things? It's really hard to tell. Overall hand power... I've never really seen a good definition of that. Power is usually associated with speed and acceleration ability. My guess would be that your fingers would not closer a gripper with any technique fast and powerfully, unless you use a gripper that is much lower/lighter than your best close. Hope this helps.

    Does it count if instead of curling my fingers around the implement, I crimp it like I would a rock climbing hold (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, just google “rock climbing crimp”)?

    I just ordered The CoC 1,5
    I do weightlifting training since 1 year.
    I do now worry if im strong enough to train with the 1.5 Version.
    I have 32cm forearm size and 18.5cm wrist.
    Will i be strong enough for it?

      @@gripstrength I gather that's pretty good for someone who hasn't trained grip strength really at all? About a month back I ordered a cheap set of Amazon grippers that have 150,200, and 250 pound grippers in the case. After closing them all pretty easy I ordered the genuine coc 3.

    I think mass training would be much, much better than not doing full body training, because even mass training helps to support strength gains.

    Great vid. I did read on IronMind's site that the whole "dog leg" concept is a misconception, and that it makes no difference white way it's used. Not sure what to make of that. Per their site: "When a torsion spring is manufactured, one of the arms comes out of the coil with a slightly sharper bend than the other, and "dog leg" is what some people call that side of the spring. They go on to recommend that this side of the gripper is the one you should put by your thumb. In fact, dog legs are what allow your best friend to run-and it takes the same force to close a gripper regardless of which handle you plant against the base of your thumb and which one you wrap your other fingers around. Ask Newton . . . or any high school physics student: this is a difference that makes no difference. "

    Why not hold the gripper upside down? This way instead of the pinkie at the bottom of the handle it's the pointer finger. Isn't that a stronger grip?

      @@gripstrength yes I will once the lockdown ends, but how can I know which ones to order? My hand is also 8.5 inches, I've been training my grip.. but I have no idea how strong my grip is. I don't want to buy CoC 1 and turn out to be very easy, and O don't want to but number 2 and can't close it because I have 0 idea how strong are the grippers..

    I tried your technique on COC 3 my hands are 7.5 inches , I can’t even put my finger

      Sounds like you didn't set it deep enough. You would need to strengthen your set. My ebook, Cadence Based Gripper Training, has an 8-week program that includes drills for strengthening the set.

    bro what, this setup hurts my grip hand and it takes absurd effort to even get my first 3 fingers on, meanwhile I can close using a grip with no setup

    Why don't they make Coc's for smaller hands... I mean I have 7.5" hands and I struggle so hard to close them, I have the strength so I don't understand, I struggle with the 140 pounds but I manage to close the 200 pounds, like what the hell ? If you have larger hands then that's called cheating, of course you'll be better at closing them...
