In this video I go over, in detail, how to paint a mountain mural on your wall that looks professionally done! If you want a to do a mountain mural on your wall but you don't have extravagant artist skills, this is your solution! I used Sherwin Williams sample size paint in eight colors. In order from lightest to darkest those colors were:
Base White
Gray Screen
Online
Network Gray
Software
Web Gray
Cyberspace
Tricorn Black

You are so hard-working, that’s amazing. I need to wait till the guestroom is empty and start doing my incredibly long and slightly masochistic process of painting the wall 😂 I think I’m going to go for the projector option. Or I might be brave and just get a builders pencil and draw the mountains in freehand! 😊
Either option is totally fine! You could always just do the projector method then turn it off and edit it in places you might not love! I erased whole mountains I few times after taking a step back and deciding it wasn’t what I wanted from afar and after all very very few people of any at all are going to be inspecting the mural up close!!

Great video! Do you think it would have been easier to paint one color multiple coats, then move on to the next? Definitely more days but maybe less tedious? I'm going to give this a shot this summer!

I'm not sure whether it would be easier or not. I think if anything it wouldn't make a difference, especially if you plan on only doing one coat per day. I chose to do it in this order because I like to let my paint dry for as long as possible between coats, when I was younger I painted my bedroom too quickly and it never really cured right, it was very tacky to the touch. The pint-sized colors also only come in Sherwin Williams' cheapest paint type so long curing times is never a bad idea but that's just my DIYer opinion! If you prefer only opening one color at a time go for it!! 😊🎨💜 Thanks for your comment and question!!

How do you get the faded look on each layer? It looks really good! I'm about to do this to my walls in my dining room. How did you get it to look misty? It looks like fog or mist at the bottom of each mountain. I notice this effect mostly on the back mountains more than the front ones. How do you get the misty effect?
I literally just used a lighter color on each mountain layer the higher up it was. Each color I chose is from a single color swatch strip at sherwin Williams. The colors I chose are all from the SW707 series. Ranging from SW7071 Gray Screen to SW7076 Cyber Space. The white is just the base white, no tint added and the black I chose is Tricorn Black.
Please note this color swatch from Sherwin Williams also includes the color SW9162 African Gray as the fourth color from the bottom. I omitted that color because if you look really closely it REALLY doesn’t go with the rest of the set.
You can use this method with ANY paint color swatch from ANY brand as long as paint the same amount of “layers” (mountains) as the amount of colors you choose. It’s very easy and will give you the fade look you want!
The whole mountain in each layer is completely solid the same color.
The only thing other than that, I outlined each mountain with a tiny artist brush before going in with a mini roller. The misty effect you might be seeing is POSSIBLY just the brush strokes showing through the paint.

Very nice! How do you make the gradient?
I literally just used gradient colored wall paints. I listed the colors used in the description but you can do it with any color as long as the store provides gradient swatches for the hue you’re wanting!
In my case, I believe it was the middle color of the store provided gradient swatch that didn’t belong or like mesh well with the other colors so I just axed that one out and the rest looked perfect together. So do make sure the gradients they pick all work well together! 😊 good luck!!
