- Those of you that watched my Top 5 Affordable Camera Video know that I already had this camera but had to let to go. Well, I have it again and here are five reasons why I think the Leica T deserved to be bought twice.

* And no, it isn't the new Fuji. But it is definitely an alternative in todays used market.
My point of that title, besides being a bit funny, is that people that always try to compare and make sense between camera systems often forget one thing. They are different.
Just because two cameras have 23mm lens and an APS-C sized sensor doesn't mean they are supposed to be compared.
Leica isn't Fuji and Fuji isn't Leica.
Nor do they try to be.
And when we have something so fundamentally different like the T and people still try to compare and say "might as well buy an a6000"... well that just cracks me up :)
So the title is a little tongue in cheek... its allowed to have fun on the internet.
Even when we are talking something so dividing and flammable as cameras.

This may sound weird but I'm subscribbed to this channel for years now and I don't even own a camera. Love the videos anyways.
Weirdo!! jkjk
how did you do that.. i subscribed to mattias for less than a year and i have a gr2... T_T )
Mattias also reviews phones, I found him through that. Early 2015 I believe.
oh.. never got to view that deep back.. i might see but old phones used arent really as valuable as slightly used cameras..
Ricardo Azevedo do you own a smartphone?
I love this channel because I learn all the alternative camera's where nobody talks about :) Just a bit different than all the Canon Nikon Sony Panasonic content on UA-cam :)
Thats great to hear :)
When I die I would like Mattias to narrate my life story, no one would listen but it would still be better with his voice LOL!
RETRO Machines I agree. I learn alot on this channel. I also love the wee dog.
Does anyone know where I can get a 5d mark 2 hotmirror?
Same.
Why am I now looking on Ebay for the Leica T? hmmmmmm!!!!
Mattias, I am sure you get some hate, but please do not stop. There is a Fred Rogers quality to your videos. You do make the world a tinny little bit better by doing what you do! Thank you!
Damn, I never ever thought about owning a Leica, but after watching this video, am considering it very much...
This channel just gets better and better! I just started my photography journey and you have been so informative i appreciate you.
I really love your quality video presentations. It's tantamount to the product you talk about.
Would you recommend this camera over recent point-and-shoot cameras you've reviewed?
I have enjoyed your videos for some time, now. They are no-nonsense and show the facts. Thanks, as I am a beginner and I appreciate your honest viewpoint! I just purchased a Leica X2 and, while I still have not received it, I am looking forward to my first Leica experience! Thanks from Atlanta!
Dude your voice is so relaxing combined with the music.. awesome subscribed !
Love your vids Mattias! Your outlook is very positive and practical! Thx for making them.
Mattias, that was brilliant! Lovely camera amazing images, but that finish looks so easy to mark!
I`m a Fuji fan, but love the Leica, it`s futureproof looks are just stunning!
Very compelling video for the T. Glad that there is room for unique/eccentric voices like Mattias. Top 5 channel for me.
The strap design and doorless-battery design are absolutely beautiful.
Nice production quality and review!
Another spot on video! Now I'm gonna dream about this camera... grr :D
This channel is so great. Every video is so relaxing, entertaining, and informative. But watching your videos seriously fuels my GAS haha. I would seriously love to try this camera out but lack of an evf is a killer for me.
I read you, man, the other day I went on and purchased a SIGMA dp1s after watching one of Mattias videos, I feel so guilty.
Mike Anastasio Yeah you don't need to try every camera. Its just my obsession :)
There is an external viewfinder for the T. Unfortunately I haven't tried it so I can't say if its worth it.
I had one for a week, and it is a lovely camera with a built quality that is, of course, everything that one comes to expect from Leica... but... BUT... I wasn't sad to give it back, and I almost felt a relief when I went back to my X-E1. This camera didn't feel as natural. The menu system is incredible, and it was the only touchscreen camera I have used where I wasn't completely put off by the touchscreen vs. button interface, but.... I can feel buttons. My X-E1, for all its foibles (of which there are a few), feels more like me than the Leica did. And because I LOVE my Pentax & 7artisans lenses, I gotta GOTTA have focus peaking!
I got my X-E1 on a whim, because I wanted something small to carry around rather than my 5D and red rings, and it is definitely my favourite camera to use now. Had I picked up the Leica before the Fuji, I would probably think much differently. Both cameras are amazing, both have a subtle and ethereal feel to them.
Thanks Mattias for your youtube channel. It is informative and entertaining.
Leica, Sigma, Ricoh whatever...your realistic (non fanboy) reviews show the key strengths and weaknesses of the camera's you review. Never considered the T, definitely on my radar now.
Such a beautifully machined camera.. can't hate on it, even as a Fuji shooter. Great stuff.
your videos are amazing ! really well done. i love the vibe !
Thanks for the review! Trying to decide between this Leica or a used Fuji X100T
Awesome, Mattias. Yours is my new favourite channel by a country mile!
Mattias you should be doing commercial voice overs for any number of manufacturers, not just cameras. It is evident that your knowledge of photography is top notch but you could make videos about drain cleaner sound majestic.
The colors from this setup is just mindblowing
I have watched a lot of photography channels but Matthias Burling's offers consistently great advice in a practical positive tone without the bloviating bs you see too often elsewhere. The site is for people who actually enjoy photography rather than for gearheads who are more interested in manhood measuring contests over specs than in actually taking pictures. I love the cost conscious advice and the attention to 'classics' like the M8 and the GXR rather than to the latest and greatest for their own sake (I have used both and still have the GXR and he's right ) His photographs are lovely and demonstrate what these cameras can do in attentive hands.
I recently bought a TL2 and the 35mm Summilux-TL and 18mm elmarit-TL lenses. Both lenses are fantastic and the smaller compact body has made the TL2 my go to walk around camera instead of carrying my M9 with me everywhere I go.
Amazing video yet again. really tempted to grab the T sometime as my walking camera. love the sensor and the style.
Sugarless Thanks man :)
I love your own mind on cameras. I've started using an old Nikon D80. I love the results from the CCD sensor and I feel you look outside the box to. Best wishes for your channel. Mike
CCD is magic, love it :)
Just love it, you did it really well! Absolute inspiring!
Loved my T for about a year and a half now, got some great shots with it. My TL2 arrives tomorrow. Can't wait to see how the colors compare... The TL2 and 18mm are priced right now like the T and 23mm were when you made this review, so it would be a great time for somebody to pick up the system
I thoroughly enjoyed my TL2. Quick and snappy.
Wow...just wow. I never, not in my entire life have seen an honest, simple yet very informative, realistic review of a camera like this. The content, the way you presented the facts/arguments were really spot on compared to many other 'camera reviewers' out there who only care about features. Well, as we know it, there is a difference between a photographer who reviews a camera, than any blokes who reviews camera - just for the sake of making reviews!
Now, I seriously have to reconsider my 'budget' option. I'm saving for a used Leica X 113. But recently saw someone selling the original T with 23 f2 with a decent price. After watching this video, I think I am leaning towards the T with 23!
And oh, what a lovely pictures taken by the T you got there. Subscribed!
Kind words, thank you :)
I bought my Leica T also because of one lens: the Summilux-TL 35mm.
It's magnificent!
Brilliant input and appraisal Mattias. Cheers from British
Columbia
Love the video! So friendly and lots of love for photography & gear.
Somehing about leica.. I was like why is it so expensive?!?! But I somehow understand it now. I love the looks of both gear and image. I want one myself haha but I will stick to my 550D from Canon. It's good enough for me
This vdo just reminded me of how much i love my T and why I haven't sold it after all these years. 👍🏻
I love this channel. The best out there.
I just bought this camera a few day (second hand). I have plan to buy the voigtlander lens for use with it ( with M lens adapter).
Very nice review as always, Mattias! I actually came to it while searching for Fujifilm X100F reviews, as I already have an X-Pro 2 with some superb XF lenses. However, with the new TSA policies, I was considering a fixed-lens camera like the Fuji X100F. As sharpness and detail are my main concern for an upcoming portrait shoot, it would have been nice to see the same image shot with both the X100F and the Leica, same lighting, exposure, etc., just to compare detail rendering of each system. Thank you sir.
Steve Solomon I have done such a test but with the Xpro2 + 23mm next to the Leica. The result basically was that the extra resolution the Fuji has was lost due to the softer lens.
I can ad the test to my blog post by tomorrow.
Another great video. Very informative 😀
Back in 2018 to 2019, I bought a used T body and sold it, bought a used TL with 23mm Summicron and then sold it again and jump to Sony A7 III train. I did not loose much because it is all second hand but I miss the camera every time I visited photos I had taken with it. Today I manage to get another Leica T with 18mm Elmarit set for €850 and I decided that I will keep this set and use it more. I always come back to this video for inspiration. Thanks Mattias!
Interesting video. The menu interface is pretty cool.
Best reviews. No nonsense garbage you usually get on UA-cam.
It’s a very interesting looking camera. Thanks for showing us.
Beautiful design and wonderful images!
I have always loved this simple form factor. More so than the M series. Brilliant, in fact!
It's 2023 and I just bought a T (body only). My first Leica.... 👏🤪👏🥳👏🥰
Thank you Mattias for your knowledge and enthusiasm!
Love your review. Makes perfect sense regarding the Leica T.
Love your video's Mattias. I wish I could afford some Leica glass, but if wishes were fishes, we'd all cast nets.
On a side note, comparing the 100F on price doesn't seem very fair. OVF/EVF, leaf shutter, built in ND filter.. all nice features that cost money to add. It's a shame Fujifilm hasn't updated the X-70, which would be a spot on comparison, that the Leica T would provably win.
Thanks buddy I really appreciate your time and consideration I have decided to get one just because I think it's a unique little camera and I will have FUN with it and ultimately I'm not a pro I just want to have FUN best wishes Denis
Second time I see your videos! Now I’m yours ! Great video dude!
I've always wanted to own a Leica but never really considered their mirrorless models. I might give this one a try though. I can rent one to test it out.
I have 4 Leica Ms and you got me wanting this camera. Brilliant.
Another great vid, Mattias, many thanks. So far no Leica hate regarding your opinion, but it's only been an hour after you posted this.
Xavier Fajardo ha ha :)
Nowadays photography is corrupted by “Specs” and “Benchmark”. People use DxOmark as their bible. If you define photography as an Art, how can you people let the computer to determine it
The Corsentior amazing!
True
The Corsentior if it makes a clean 20x30, it’s a good camera. The rest is overkill.
FACTS
but for me your argument sounds like an excuse to buy a needlessly expensive camera. I need to know what make this worth it, other than subjective views about colours. I get that any reason is potentially good enough, but if you want to present it to others you need to either express this very succinctly (that it is subjective) or give more objective reasons.
Great video !
can u do a video on ur olympus mft camera ?
This is the best camera channel. He reviews underrated cameras. Thank you
Ed Pal That and cheap forgotten is my latest hobby :)
Very nice review! I just got one from ebay, and wonder if my old Nikon manual lenses (for F3) would work on Leica T. What kind of adapter would I need? I researched online to no avail. Thanks a lot for any leads.
Loving the combination of original Leica T body and Summicron 23mm f/2: relatively affordable, great compact sharp prime, superb image quality - complements my Sony 7rii and 7s. Recommend buying the (overpriced) viewfinder.
Just bought / ordered a Leica T with the 23 mm lens so very excited to receive it soon.... Thanks Mattias
Hi, how much did you pay for the combo, thanks, have a great day
I got my Leica T for $600 off ebay, it was a display body and it is flawless, it did not come with charger though, but I don't shoot so much that I need my battery charging so when the TL2 came out, I was just fine with my T, I think I love the design and built quality more than performance, so because this lacks nothing in looks, why would I drop 2k on the TL2? no reason to! This is your chance to get one with or without lens, it will be available for bargain price, remember you can not expect it to be too cheap, get a good one even if you have to pay $100 more! I use mine with vintage RF lenses and I own just one M leica lens - 0.95, Body is solid and very compact, I LOVE IT!
THANKS MATTIAS - True and unbiased! Great advice!
Brilliant video as always, I was just wondering what application you use for zone focusing, I saw you using the app in one of your videos awhile ago.
Hyper focal pro.
Hi, Mattias.
Which vintage lenses do you recommend for portraits on Leica TL2?
Thank you,
Mattias, lovely video of course. It's strange how my photographic journey seems to be magnetically pulling me towards Leica.
Robert Holloway They retain their value very well. If bought used some of them go up. So you can give it a go without losing to much money.
Got this camera for 960$ with Leica Vario Elmar 18-56 f3.5-5.6 in almost mint condition. Very satisfied! Colors are waaaay better then on Fuji X-E3 with 18-55 f2.8-4. And design!! So beautiful and minimalistic without too many “no need to use” buttons. Now very interested to try Leica CL (1500$ for body only...) Not unreachableprive but one thing to mention - if the camera is quite expensive then im often afraid to take it out and shoot.
Great video Mattias. I have owned a T for a couple of years and it gives me files that need less tweaking than my a7. I also have a huge Rokkor collection and it is a great back for those old lenses. The workflow is weird and definitely not for pay jobs. That being said it is the most enjoyable camera I currently own. It forces you to concentrate on the shot and removes distractions.
What adapter do you use for your Rokkor lenses and the Leica?
@@KTK44 I m using a Hawks factory Leica M to SL helicoid adaptor on the camera with a generic MD Rokkor MD/M mount on my lenses. I use this rig because it lets me use much closer focusing on than the factory spec. I also have some M lenses and VC lenses in my collection.
Great video. I really want to try this camera: I love the UI. Have you tried M glass with it?
Yes, the voigtlander in the video and a 15mm. Also the 50mm Minolta was with a M-Mount adapter to TL.
Hi Mattias, great content. Very helpful for Indian audience specially.
I've an option to buy the T or Q and was wondering in terms of IQ and colors if the T is comparable to the Q.
According to you which is better just in terms of IQ & colors?
I understand all the other differences but IQ and the film like look is my priority.
Thanks & cheers!
also that minolta lens on the leica! Love it!
Excellent photos and sleek camera.
I swear, you could film a turd and make it look beautiful, Mattias. Your videos are always so visually appealing. :)
We need to get you to 100k!!!!
Hi Mattias, thanks a lot for this video about the Leica T and for all others you have done over the past years.
I like your work and your pictures are really talking to me.
I have owned this camera and i think it is a very special one, so I decided yesterday to buy it once again.
Sure, it's not the best at all but a very versatile one (it can be use with M- Lenses through the M-adapter) and like you said, Leica Lenses are just incredible.
The Leica T delivers beautiful images with a little patience.
wish you all the best,
Peter
hello, i heard and saw one video, if you use adapters and use manual focus on this camera it will have 5 second auto photo preview after every photo captured...and it cant be turned off!
so basically you have 5 second freeze after every capture.. is this true? or not anymore?
your reply and input will be much appreciated..! as im very interested to buy this camera for manual lenses :')
thank you
@@chunghyo.s2648 Hi, I would say 3 seconds for auto review and you can't turn it off. It is also true when you use the TL lenses.
The T 701 and TL are not fast cameras and have no focus peaking but magnification X3 and X6.
Not a drama for portraiture, Landscape and still ok for street (if you use the hyperfocal @f8). What I can tell is that the results are very good (if you shoot Raw) with the T 701 because of the 16m pixels Sony sensor but you have to take your time ;-)
If you want a Leica with the latest tech then the Leica CL is the best bet.
But the CL is not as special as the T 701 wich has a popup flash..
I like a lot shooting with the T701 with TL 18mm Elmarit or TL 23mm Summicron. It's really a nice experience every time.
With M lenses like a 50mm Summicron, (indeed 75mm with the T) you will get beautiful results especially for portraits. The colors are great.
Wich lenses are u going to use with ?
@@phathorn wow thank you for the detailed reply!
i seee.. noted.
well im still considering :) i am planning to replace my fuji x70 with leica T (planning to use it manually with m mount adaptors as my secondary camera) because i cant afford the TL lenses.. :/
i can find some cheap m mount lenses in my local store :) thats why. (7artisans/voigtlander lenses)
but im concerned if it has that 3 second auto review.. :(
but man Leica T is so good looking :))
anyways thank you for your time Mr Peter!
@@chunghyo.s2648 Your welcome. For me the auto review is not a big deal, this camera is not fast anyway.
But you can still shoot during the autoriew, with no access at what you shoot
@@phathorn that's true :) if I want a fast camera there's plenty in the market.. silly me 😅
Thanks for the info🙏
Mattias would you consider reviewing the GE G100? it's a rather cheap point and shoot but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
I have taken in deeply by the simple yet with depth on all the camera reviews by Mattias. Because of him I bought the X70. I was about to sell off my Leica T in a week but this video have stopped me from doing that as he convinced me of its potential and the cheapest way to own a Leica. I saw his suggestion on the Vintage Minolta MD Rokko lens for Leica T. I wish to seek your kind advise whether the Minolta 50mm f1.4 MC Rokkor will also be a good substitute as I could not find the one you recommended in Malaysia? Also which adaptor are you using on Leica T? Your kind advise would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Got a used leica t from Stockholms Leica center :-)
Thanks for the review!
Colours are so much better than Sony :-)
I went to Aquaria today and the color are great straight out of camera. Not like Sony which had crazy white balance last I was there.
Man... that’s an impressive build
Just bought the T along with the Minolta lens, thank you for the review...but now I’m having trouble with a black screen. Seems like the camera isn’t reading the lens. Any suggestions? Does the camera need an update? Or it is there a setting I’m missing?
Oh I love getting that notification!
Sorry I'm very new in this circle, can I ask which is the converter to combine the MD Rokkor 50mm with the Leica T?
Brilliant review. Would really love to have this camera! But unfortunately out of my league... Maybe when I get rich! Ha, ha
Hej Mattias, skulle du forfarande idag rekommendera ett köp av en TL, trots åren som gått o 16 mp? Hur är den att fotografera med manuella obj. Tack
Honestly your channel is exactly how a photography channel should be.
Thanks for a very good video.
Best Leica video on UA-cam! Thanks!!!!!
super Video, Matthias!
And I got myself a budget-M8 as you said at the end. :)
Now I have to check out your Ricoh GXR video!
You didn't say... I'll search, but I assume the Leica T is an APS-c sensor.
(still haven't seen the name of your cute doggie)
Do you need an adaptor to use the vintage Minolta Rokkor Lens or does it connect directly to the camera?
Thanks and love your channel!
Kenji O adapter if course.
Such a nice option though this or the SDQuattro with 30mm kit. For unique photography. (must disclose I own a SD14 and have a puppy in the fight)
Ever since I saw your last Leica T video I wanted to find one. But not sure if I should get a used Leica T, TL or TL2.
Great video Mattias, as always!
But I couldn't find the camera as a kit with the 23 prime. Will it be available soon?
Thanks for the review!
Matias Contursi They pop up every now and then on eBay. I might sell you mine to keep this channel going ;)
It would be great, but we will have to see how to get it to Argentina, we are really far away! Come to visit us on vacation, there are excellent places to take photos here! : )
Matias Contursi Shipping doesn't cost much these days.
Great video. I can ALSO think of five reasons to buy this camera.
1) it's a Leica
2) it's a Leica
3) it's a Leica
4) it's a Leica
5) it's a Leica
Everything else is a bonus!
The TL2 arrived. It is heavier than I expected, solid. I have Nikon AIs lens mostly primes. the adaptor should be here this week. will send some shoots if like. How do you think he Ais nikon lens will perform? Thank you so much.
Hi Mattias, loving your videos and now that i see a leica related video, is it possible that you can make a video review about the camera of the p9 or p10 from huawei which both sport leica optics (supposedly), it can also serve as a video to talk about smartphone photography, and your opinion as a professional photographer about it.
Lenys Vasquez Im so satisfied with my Honor 8.
And I did one about the CM1 wich is Leica branded.
But a video about smartphone photography I will think about.
I didn't even want a Leica, until I watched this video lol!
Great review!
Hi Mattias. I see the price of the Leica T is extremely reasonable. Are there any affordable auto lenses (I have a good selection of vintage Helios and Minolta) that you could recommend? The 23mm is quite pricey and there aren't too many body + lens deals at the moment. Thanks, Paul.
Great video. Would still love if Leica would make a version with a built in viewfinder, & a bit more video-centric. Thanks for posting!
microbroadcast CL has EVF and there is an external for the T.
Mattias Burling Many thanks for your response, I’ll check them out.
great as always man. an idea for next video. Leica X or X2. they're not too expensive, has 35mm lens. and small. By the way you made me buy a ricoh gr, and i have not regretted it ever since.
Leica X will happen. I just have a few other cheap cameras to review first.
One is seeeeriosly cheap :)
looking forward to that. i like how you're also passionate to find great cameras that don't break the bank (even if it's a few years old). Which is important for me, because even if i can afford a more expensive camera, i don't want to babysit the camera.. with cheaper camera i don't care too much if i accidentally scratch it or something which makes the whole shooting experience much more enjoyable.
