I recently picked up a TL2 since they were massively discounted. I have to say I really, really enjoy that the camera gets out of the way and let’s me just shoot photos. I have a good collection of various Pentax cameras. As much as I love them, sometimes I feel like there’s just too many options and features built in. It’s nice that they’re there, but sometimes it’s just having to do this in order to do that, etc. The Leica just gets to it and let’s me do what i need to without obstruction . My only gripe is that as far as the T/L mount lenses from Leica themselves seem to be lacking. I have the 23mm and can’t really justify the 18mm or the 18-56 when the 23 can pretty much do it. That and I never can seem to get the Fotos app to work properly when trying to transfer pictures. With that said, the T series camera really is a work of art and the rendering is just killer. Even though it’s digital, it just has such a natural film look to it that I can’t get out of my Pentaxes
Hi David Nice video!! I can relate about wearing bi-focals and trying to look at a touch screen in bright sunlight w/o a EVF. SO what camera do you have your eye on? Best Duane
Yeah. This is a huge check list item for me. It is a deal breaker for many cameras now just to be honest. As for a new machine, I have it now. It is the Leica SL2. I got it for the EVF mainly, but also for several other reasons too like the sensor has really good IBIS and it is 47mp and ...well ... it has those epic Leica colors😬🤷🏻♂️ But mainly for the gorious EVF it has.
I know, right?!?! 🤣🤷🏻♂️ I do want a certain lens from Leica that I currently dont have, but I am not super sold on their glass is the only glass thing. I have had stellar performance out of all sorts of lenses over the years. So I might not end up ALL IN but I do like a lot of what they have to offer.
I use the tl2 as a backup camera when I shoot cosplay I mostly do inside shots or in shaded areas so it’s perfect for seeing but I hate having no viewfinder
I really think these cameras were ahead of their time. Has they been marketed better and towards a specific demographic, I think they would have easily been a runaway success for Leica. I loved mine, but with bifocals, it was a real pain to use. I loved the rest of the camera. 👍📸 Thank you.
Good one David. I have similar eyesight issues. Do I understand correctly the T/TL does not have focus peaking? Do you know if the CL/CL2 does support it?
I don’t remember if my TL had focus peaking or not to be honest. I do know my CL does have focus peaking on it and it works really well with manual lenses. I currently have a manual 35 mm lens on my CL with an adapter at this time and it works great. Thank you and I hope this helps.
Outstanding planning blur at 8:52 !! Great review! I will keep this in mind if I ever consider a camera with no viewfinder. As much as you shoot manual glass, I completely understand. I liked all the location changes and the B-roll of the screen. Well done all the way around.
Thanks Phil, it is a great little camera, just not for me. Your video today was great too. I am beginning to like this new “Phil’s Unboxing Therapy” channel 😂🤷🏻♂️😬 just kidding... still glad to see you getting to use your gear like you want. Congrats!!!!
David, you are enjoying the L-mount cameras and I suggest you check out the Panasonic S5, it is a relatively small and light camera and has become one of my daily carry cameras.
It is already gone... 😞🤷🏻♂️ I sold it with all that other stuff to Robert’s camera. It is a cool little camera for someone with good eyes. Just not a food fit for me. I also understand the whole wanting to stay in the L mount part too. It is just simpler that way. 👍📸
I have two to go with my S1, they are fab. A TL & TL2. The TL2 has better AF. The EVF purchase is pretty much a no brainer. The fact is though that you can zoom into the image on the rear screen to focus. It is initiated with MF and MF autofocus lenses, e.g. Sigmas - they make great lenses for these. One of the two wheels can also act as a focusing magnification zoom for 3x & 6x. Works for the rear screen and the EVF. 7Artisans have just brought out an L pancake 35mm f5.6 fixed too which makes these super easy take with you if there is a need to be low key, or to keep it in a big coat pocket out of the rain. I have also used them with the 20-60 and 24-105 Panasonic Lumix lenses. They are ok, but I occasionally get connection issues and a quick press of the lens release button solves it. The 24-105 is a beast on it though, but gives you a 35-150'ish lens which is nice to have. Your thinking is on the right track.
The two fatal flaws are a lack of an EVF, and the lack of focus magnification? You can add an EVF, and you can set one of the two dials for focus magnification.
I saw that same car about a week later. It must be a local as he was driving it on a Saturday evening without a care in the world. It just happened to be parked there the day I was shooting this video and the color was amazing, so I used it for that segment. 👍📸
Leica isnt for everyone, they are a pretty polarizing company since they dont play the ratrace game that Sony, Nikon and Canon plays. People are strange. 😂 Anyway, if I can get a chance to come to Birmingham, I will bring mine and let you play around with them. 👍📸
Yeah, it is just down the road from here. It is where my church is at. That day was kind of a bust for me too, I just wasnt in the groove that day for some reason. 👍
I dont have concrete proof, but the general consensus is that the “chassis” electronics is Panasonic with a few changes for Leica here and there. But for the most part, it is accepted theory that Panasonic made these for Leica. Leica did the ergo work and used their own processor “supposedly “ and their own software. I can say that it works really well for the design intent. Really well. I just didnt like the lack of the viewfinder.
I think the TL2 is doing well, so I would speculate that we will see the 3 at some point, but we all know the timetable they use is not like the rest of the industry…
I hear you. My point is that a lot of people that get the TL2 are just people who want s little camera and not enthusiasts like us. People like that rarely frequent photography forums or bother looking for camera content and just take photos of their kids or pets or what have you… that is why I think it is doing fine, but it is speculation since we don’t know much else honestly. 👍📸
Your welcome!!! It is a cool little camera if you like working from the back screen, I really liked the design, but my eyes made it tough to use easily….
I wanted to see how I would like it, suffice it to say that I dont care for it. It is designed for the younger generation and that is obvious to me now. 👍📸

I totally agree with you. The Leica Visoflex EVF2 is (used) $254. I'm glad you sold the TL.
love my tl2 with visoflex and decided to keep it using manual lenses..best toy ever

I have a TL2 and I know on that one at least it DOES have focus peaking. It gives a reddish outline to whatever is in focus
That is great. I am glad to hear that. Thank you

@@davidsaylors The thing I learned when I made that video was how good my old 14-24 f/2.8 is as a studio video lens on the Z6.
That Z6 (gen 1) is a real sleeper of a camera. It never ceases to amaze me to be honest about it.
i guess it is quite randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?

I will give it a look! Thank you for the tip. I do like the L mount gear. 😉👍📸

True. I just didn’t want to add a visoflex. The CL did almost solve all of my complaints about the TL. Thanks!
I like the TL but without EVF kills it for me. Now the Shelby Cobra, wow! I wanted more pictures.

I would have a really hard time I think without a viewfinder. I may have to try a Leica at some point but I’ve never shot with one.
