Shaun White got a skateboarding game because he was actually a pro skateboarder prior to snowboarding. He’s a multiple gold medal X-games medalist, Tony Hawk even mentored him when he was a child.
Tony also snowboarded forever ago to varying degrees. It's almost like the two sports are intertwined along with other "extreme" sports and even motorsports somewhat (Travis pastrana, etc)
Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure is so underrated it didn’t even get mentioned. Lol It was on the THPS4 engine and had characters and maps from Toy Story, Lion King, and Tarzan. The maps were unique and because it was built on the THPS engine it played really well too.
People always sleep on Shaun White’s skate career. He scored 2 golds in 2007 and 2011 and 2 silvers in the X Games for skateboarding, he just hit massive fame for his top performance in snowboarding, particularly in the Olympics. He was always a good skater though
Yup in my opinion up until Underground 1 the franchise was good. I really don’t like the gameplay/mechanics or direction the games were heading after that. Even the THPS 1+2 is a ehhh.. just hate to see the physics and mechanics of the game the way it is now. Doesn’t feel right or look right.
the thing about Skater XL is i never played it before but skated for years, and easily and intuitively picked up the game instantly because the way you move your feet in the game is just like you would in real life. It has actually made me a better skater in the fact it helped me remember the different names for tricks when switching between nollie and regular, i.e. backside flip vs nollie backside flip.
I grew up playing all the Tony Hawk games and American Wasteland , Underground , and Pro Skater 3 were my favorites . Even going back now is the best nostalgic feeling
I love these "history of skateboarding games" videos because even though some topics unavoidably overlap betweeen them, it's fun seeing each creators individual takes on each game and the way they structure the storytelling. I loved the fact you aknowledged the how underrated downhill jam is, I always thought it got way too much hate lol
I played the DS version of skate it as a kid and I remember the touch screen controls were surprisingly good and captured the essence of the analog stick controls. it was pretty intuitive and I had a lot of fun.
This video has a lot of inaccuracies. One that really sticks out is that there WAS a port of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on the iPhone. It was delisted a while ago, but they did have one. I still have it on my iPhone 3GS.
I really liked project 8! Slept on in my opinion. It did the classic Tony Hawk formula really good. I had it in PS2 and it pushed that thing to its limits. Game was gorgeous. Soundtrack kicked ass.
I had a serious love hate relationship with the Xbox 360 version. I never knew it got released on older consoles with the American wasteland engine till i watched this video, im sure it was better on ps2
Riders republic is definitely worth the price, at least if you get it on sale. Skateboarding is a separate dlc, but even without it the game is amazing. It's the best game to just come home and relax after a long day, and it is a lot easier to get into than tony hawks pro skater. Not to mention it has snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, road cycling, bmx, snowmobiles, jetpacks, and more.
The main problems with Session and Skater XL is they’re supposed to skate sims first and foremost. The thing the hardcore fan base wanted was a more realistic experience to make cool clips and video parts. The games over all have amazing controls, graphics and models but there’s no gameplay loop or any kind of objective other than exploration.
I feel like your barely played session bc that's exactly what you do make🔥 clips to make parts and you have objectives and do from getting sponsored to the Philly skate jam
The Shawn white skateboarding game is actually pretty good. The entire world is gray and you can basically paint the world by doing tricks lol kind of odd but it was really cool.
American Wasteland was great and seems underrated. At the time, it was advertised as having no loading screens between levels with the Xbox 360 graphics. Which was pretty awesome because it was a step into an open world Tony Hawk game. Around the time it came out the emo scene was very popular, so the soundtrack was a banger. The addition of old school tricks, and the cameos from the o.g skaters from lords of dog town was the cherry on top.
It was the peak in terms of gameplay for me. The addition of a Bike, parkour and side missions were really cool. The "loading" zones between the levels weren't that bad either as you could skate through them. The story was also decent. Only thing missing was the create-a-goal from THUG2.
Something about the accidental typo of 1986 flashing in front of me as 1896 tickles my brain lol Just a quarter of a way through this video, it's just unlocking a bunch of old memories of my childhood playing many hours of Tony Hawk games (played 2, 3, American Wasteland) and other sport games like SSX, Matt Hoffman's BMX and ATV etc. Simpler times. touchgrind skate is one of the better ios skateboarding games as well
Skater xl is the best for me. skated for years and that was the most realistic skate game ever on console. All they needed to do is the fix the moon gravity a bit add maps n gear and I would of still been playing it
Ain't that the Undertaker's Big Evil logo at 10:22 ?
Man I can’t wait for skate 4
Skatebird is still the goat of all skating games
I saw the typo right at the start and hit the liek button so fast ofbeidbeidjjd

MTV SKATEBOARDING was brilliant. I loved the stund modus. The only shty fact was.. the rotation control was stiff... :)
