I'd love to know how all the Black Library authors come up with all of the different types and forms of names of the marines that belong in each chapter/legion! This Night-Lords Captain shall be named *grabs six and seven random scrabble tiles* - Tarjan Iskrawr
I think it's the first book where mortarion lays waste to ultramar but when nurgles forces came out of the ships they were all dancing and singing even the great unclean ones and the plauge bearers were. Nurgle really seems like the most easy going and joyful. Granted as long as you don't mind being a walking rotting infection.
Thank you ABorder Prince for allowing me to enjoy my passion for 40k even when working. Your narrations are much more enjoyable to listen to then the whining of my chainsaw or the thunder of my auto-hammer. Though it still pales in comparison to the roaring of my forge, I always appreciate your narrations when working.
Wait a minute... it took me a few days to realize... Typhus attacked a imperial planet with a strategy more impressive than any Tzeench-boy, while using noise marine tactics driving the imperial guards to go all khornate... WTF? How is this story even a thing? 🤣
Writes a story about warp music that brings ecstasy being used to level an imperial world with chaos space marines showing up to savour the agony, ending with imperial guard bleeding from intense noise to the point they cut their ears off and beg for death. Story: is about the Death Guard Slaanesh: am I a joke to you?
On one hand it was a well executed bit of grim dark horror. On the other though, Nurgle is the god of decay and entropy, convoluted plans to manipulate imperials is the opposite of his values.
Nurgle can do manipulation as seen with how he toyed around with Guilliman and the weeping plague, the fact that he is fat ugly, corrupting AND somewhat smart is really scary.
that is a massive misunderstanding and complete mischaracterization in the fandom from their narrow perspective. nurgle is not death, but quite the opposite. he is the cycle of life and death, and how from rot life grows. its members are stuck in the cycle not dead neither quite alive. if anything nurgle is the exact opposite of death, and is the defiance and rejection of death. much like khorne is the god of rage, while evil can be caused by anger, it is only through anger and vengeance that such evils can be vanquished. that is the true problem with chaos, in that they are not inherently negative, but rather a reflection of the powers of life, and it is only by seeing them as negative that chaos becomes negative. they are both the good and the bad in humanity in the cycle of the ying and yang, neither one which can be removed from the tapestry of life without removing the other. through rot grows soil, and through infections all life reproduces. they are the stubborness and defiance of life, the exact opposite of true death, and it is only humans puny and selfish opinions that convinces them that they are bad
Wow, this is a good one. So much food for thought. The story kind of reminds me of Footloose for some reason. Great concepts and possibly a bit of allegory.
I just found this story. As a resent 40k fan I have to ask. Is the far future really such a grim existence. What a downer I was rooting for this guy to have at least one win.
Yeah basically it seems like everything humanity does just strengthens chaos. The only way to really make an impact would be to go back the other direction entirely but they can’t put the tooth paste back in the tube, awful saying I know but it fits. With so many stating “psykers” are the future of humanity within 40k universe, then it is assured to get much worse with both spaces mixing together… I don’t really follow this though to be fair and have tried to get into it a few times but I simply can’t beyond certain lore. Having said that, fully coping to my lack of depth on the subject the Emperor seems like a Chaos god to me. Probably the god of slavery and bondage or some such because all this just makes it worse. The whole thing seems a bit like Asimov’s Foundation series except without the grand plan and positive aspects… it’s more like every move humanity takes carries them further from any future they would want and what they have isn’t a future worth living in regardless. Look at the Tyranids, they are just the various Imperial groups ideal form for humanity. They already have corpse starch, individual freedom is gone, most just fuel and die in the war machine anyways, only difference is the Tyranids don’t have to feel it plus are better suited for it. If I knew more about them I’d just say they were humans from the future honestly… people in the series always sneer and talk about their superiority but from what I can tell they’re obsessed with war yet naturally are the weakest. Then if they could achieve their aims really they wouldn’t be human anymore but like the Xenos they hate… So a universe of almost-Tyranids miserably eek through life while worshiping a secret chaos slavery god with all their weird death cults. Yeah, get me to the nearest planet the inquisition is using that easy peasy planet destroying weapon on, you know the weapon they can get by signing some forms but is curiously never around when Tyranids are consuming an entire planet to further fuel their ceaseless marauding.
Chaos Undivided assignment manager: 'Khornate Berzerkers- you're on leave. 48 Immaterium hours, so....see you in 3 centuries. I guess... Various color Horrors-report to...wh- where the Hell did they...nevermind. Noise Marines! .... sit this one out... Plague Marines... *You're up!'*
This makes me think of Deadspace, or the Alien series, or the movie The Thing. The spread of a, signal, message, or virus that converts a body by hijacking a cells production ability.
"I will always love you" Whitney Houston And "American Women" by Lenny Kravitz I worked at Walmart when I was in School and those songs were on a loop. It was maddening! "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIYYYEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII WILLALLWAYS LOVE YOUUUUUUU!" Ahhh!
*Spoiler of the story below I wish in the end he could have gone out fighting, rather than succumbing to the song. It really doesn't make sense to use it as a device that he can't process the melody, only to retract it at the end. I feel like rather than deliver the impact of the effect of chaos, it just detracted from this character we had grown to admire. Perhaps I misinterpreted it, but I thought he had also deafened himself with the rest of the soldiers, did he not? Yet he holds a dialogue at the end. Maybe it's just been too long of a day, or the writing didn't construe it correctly; either way, feels like a bad ending to what was otherwise a fantastic story.
*Renders himself and everyone else under his command deaf. *Immediately leads them all to a suicide charge and gets the fort taken even more easily then it would be. *Gets gaslighted by Typhus into thinking everything he did was the product of his manipulations, before surrendering to the song. *Not just holing up in there, slowly bleeding the enemy dry of bodies because they're secretly fine to function now, before forcing them to abandon their grandiose artistry and take the place by force. C'mon Corvus, you're named after the Primarch of sneeky breeki tactical buggers, you could have had some more fun with it.
these stories are killers, they slay like a flesh tearer on black rage... so awesome... BTW by any chance do you have anything including ordo sinister to hear?
14:14 - I bet he's not singing, bet he's summoning a daemon or something! Edit: Close. Suppose you could say he summoned a virulent audible warp-plague!! ""Greetings, this is the Terminus Est" "Oh well, we're truly fucked and he's not even landed yet"
He was infected at the concert, he never was immune, just incubating. The worm is transmitted via sound, not necessarily song. The song is a symptom, not the disease. He infected his own men when they let him in.
This seems more slaanesh coded than nurgle coded. It's a good story, but still. It almost feels like it started out as a slaanesh story but then someone at GW decided they needed a nurgle story and ordered it to be changed partway through.

Just after I have read your comment the solider made the report. Good timing.

Now THAT, is a proper fucking guard story. Hold the God-emperor damned line, guardsman, now and forever.
Lol
Cool concept, a song that is a disease. Like when a song gets stuck in someone's head and then you hear them sing it and then it's stuck in your head.
When Typhus arrives in your planetary system ... your about to have a really bad day. There is no exception.
agreed lol

While Nurgle's sphere isn't plots and schemes, that doesn't mean his cultists can't enact them or carefully position his rituals for maximum effect.

I hope Dave Annandale does a good job on the upcoming mortarion book. I can't say he's my favorite writer
