Fun fact: In high school I asked my music teacher if we could play that song in class because it's pretty simplistic and easy to learn and he said he would look into it. A group that has been responsible for so much violence and bloodshed. And I don't give a single shit if the proud boys have non white members, Malcolm X was pro segregation at one point. Does that make segregation all of a sudden not a racist idea?
I know Michael Graves is someone a lot of people in the punk community want to distance themselves from (understandably so), but I love his work with the Misfits. So much so, I kind of wish things were different so he could've been on the reunion tour with Danzig, Jerry and co. Maybe they could've recorded a new album where it's half Danzig songs and half Graves songs. Oh well. Woulda coulda shoulda.
Egos would never allow it. I would have paid the prices for the stadium shows if Graves was there. Danzig started the Misfits and made some of their hits but they didn't become iconic until Graves got involved. Also no I don't agree with his politics but from a musical perspective it's undeniable to me
@@CustodianVirgil Correct. If you hate Graves for his political opinions, what about Glenn Danzig’s equally right wing opinions? I believe I heard him call the Obama administration the worst horror movie in American history. Sub question: What does any of that have to do with their music?
I'd personally switch Famous Monsters and Earth AD. And then switch Walk Among Us with Static Age. Famous Monsters is a fantastic album with great riffs, actually deep lyrics, and amazing vocal performances by Graves. It plays like a greatest hits album. Soaring above Earth AD. And I believe Walk Among Us is the quintessential Misfits album. Song after song of iconic misfits. As many great songs as Static Age has, Walk Among Us takes the cake for me. Just my opinion.
Glenn put the cabash on anyone else performing as The Misfits without him. So unless he dies a reunion with Michale will have to be called "Them" as Jerry once considered if he couldn't get the rights to the name.
EARTH A.D. It comes in hard, pummels the listener, and that's it. Done. I had a version with We Bite on it. And then I think I had one without. I have to look into that.
I got into the og era of the band a few years prior to the Graves era, so obviously, that is the era I prefer, though being a new and rabid fan of the band I had no qualms with seeing the 95' era live with Graves and Zoli many times and supporting the band and their new material.. Obviously I was a child when the band broke up in 83' so the only option to see and hear these songs live was during the 90's and say what you will about the band, they always put on a killer show and were a ton of fun live.. Once the 95' era dissolved, I ceased following/supporting the band.
I remember getting into Misfits during my 70s-80s punk phase as a college freshman, especially because I knew how much they influenced My Chemical Romance, my favorite band ever, (they loved the band so much Astro Zombies was one of 4 cover songs the band ever did in their 10 years), and I cant help but feel the Misfits Helena had at least some influence on MCR's song of the same name, even if they are very different in sound and writing and only share the name. I remember listening to American Psycho and thinking the album and band were good but not fantastic or great. It wasnt until I found out about the different lineups and that Glenn Danzig (who I knew from being a Danzig fan) was the original vocalist that I fell in love with the band and it ironically gave me more appreciation for the Michael Graves era, which I think is underrated, but still not as great as the 80s Misfits. They're still one of my favorite bands and probably my favorite punk band. Good video, but I disagree, American Psycho and Speak of the Devil are some of the stronger tracks off that album
I grew up with only knowing Famous Monsters (and their bigger hits of course). It holds up really well and I still revisit it to this day. For years I thought it was made by the OG Misfits. But I literally just found out what Graves has been up to over the past few years from his Wikipedia. Wow.
I picked it up on CD when I was a teenager.. I still have it in pretty good condition. I only play it on special occasions (with beer and friends ) haha
For me: from worst to first. Not sure if these are the same ones you are ranking (I'm a minute into it right now), but, anyways. 8. Devil's Rain (this may belong above 1950, but the truth is I listened to that one more) 7. Project 1950 (they're not great, but I like 50s tunes, saw them live around this time a few times, and I enjoy it). 6. American Psycho (bones, doomsday are favorites) 5. Earth AD (this is awesome, but again, I listen to it less than FM probably... it's less fun than most Misfits) 4. Famous Monsters (forbidden zone, saturday night, scream, among other good ones) 3. Walk Among Us (I know that this is the most legendary, but that's in part b/c this was the only 'Fits LP until 1982, whereas I first heard the band on Collection I... I prefer some of those versions to some of these) 2. 12 Hits From Hell (Bobby Steele is favorite Misfits guitarist) 1. Static Age (If this was released in '78 like it was supposed to, it would be one of the all time first wave classic punk records, easy).
@@fedrigonow That's true. First Bobby played on it, then Doyle recorded over it after he replaced Bobby. Bobby re-recorded it with his band the Undead!
No argument with your list... I am in agreement. I saw them in Chicago (Riot Fest) when they reunited with Dave Lombardo... It was one of the best concerts, especially since they went past their allotted time and Glenn didn't give a damn and kept going.
boot licker or not, it’s sad that people can’t look past different political opinions and still be fans. Exactly what is separating everyone, the not excepting peoples differences
If Graves wasn't such a bootlicking pos, i honestly think a reunion with him would be huge, probably as big as the classic lineup shows are. Saturday Night and Dig up Her Bones are probably some of the most well know tracks with millennials and gen z, we grew up on Graves era and that incarnation was the entry point for a lot of fans and certainly led to me getting into the Danzig era after i finished playing yhe 90s albums to death. I honestly love both eras equally.
The Misfits were me and all of my friends' favorite band back in the mid 90's, before they got back together. We went to see them in 1996 when they first reformed, and it was GREAT, Michael Graves looked EXACTLY like a young Danzig, and they played nothing but the classics, there were no new songs yet cluttering up the set list. I remember we all picked up American Psycho back in 1997 when it first came out, expecting this awesome album(this is before all the old punk bands started getting back together and putting out horrible albums, so we didn't knw any better), and the first song, which is the title track, came on, and we were actually pretty impressed. Unfortunately, then we heard the rest of the album. Of course, it goes without saying that we all found different favorite old school punk bands shortly after, and ditched our Misfits shirts, especially when all the Hot Topic stores started opening up in malls shortly thereafter. It's hard to believe now there was actually a time when it was cool to walk around with a crimson ghost shirt. It sucks that Jerry Only had to take that away from us by dragging the name through the mud and turning the band into a joke.
Boot licker, crazy, whatever he may be to you, famous monsters is the album that sticks with me, Doyle’s fat crushing guitar tone pairs perfectly with Jerry’s, Dr. Chud may not stand out from many of the other drummers but he did his job and did it well, and last but not least Graves amazing vocals, I could sing along to every song, wherever, whenever!
My Top 3 from Glenn Danzig 1. Horror biz (samhain) 2. Ghouls night out (misfits) 3. Hybrid moments (misfits) (I don't really like Graves era but Helena is a good track)
Famous Monsters is actually probably my favorite album. Ik controversial but oddly enough, Mars Attacks, from American Psycho is the song the got me into the misfits because I was a huge fan of the movie that came out in the 90’s so when I was a punk/emo 8th grader and found a song called mars attacks by the misfits, a punk band who my mother and uncle were obsessed with, it was over for me.
Earth AD is my "cleaning the house" record. It gets me so pumped. I honestly can't really get into Static Age. The songs are good, but the production just makes it a hard listen for me. I don't mind "shitty" production on punk records, but something about that one just jars me in a bad way.
Dont forget that Bruiser was used in the movie Bruiser and Fiend without a face was also written for the movie. Plus they play a cameo in the film as the club band as the misfits. Way cooler than them in that ICP movie..
I’ll be honest, as a newer Misfits fan I don’t get the hate on the Graves era. I actually thought they were pretty exceptional on a couple songs off of famous monsters, not to mention the band having an iconic sound outside of just Danzig’s voice. I get the all the problems they had with eachother and the controversy and stuff, but if we’re just talking music it’s pretty good shit.
Walk Among Us, From Hell They Came and Speak of the Devil are awesome songs IMO. Haunting, Shinning, Dig Up Her Bones and American Psycho makes this album a solid 10/10. It's not the old Mifits, but is a great pop punk album.

Respects for putting Static Age on first place. Hollywood Babylon, Attitude, She, this album is too good for me to pick a favorite track. Famous Monsters would be my second place, it's just too fun to listen, i really like Graves voice, specially in the choruses of Pumpkinhead, and also the lyrics of Saturday Night, there's something about it i just really love. Earth A.D. is my third place. I love hardcore a lot, my favorite tracks are Devilock, Mommy Can i go Out and Kill Tonight, and obviously Die die my darling.
I always liked the 2 collection albums because its got jams from all their albums with danzig . I do like static age too and I would have to agree that famous monsters is the best non danzig album without a doubt . its their strongest and heaviest album and the songs are put together really good and I like it better than american psyco . but I'm down with all the misfits albums with danzig and they're great classics
I remember the first show I ever went to in 1989. I was in 8th grade and just had first heard legacy of brutality album that year. So the local bands play first. Then this guy walks out with a huge Mohawk and cane. It’s Bobby Steele and The Undead are the last on the bill!
Okay, so I listened to The Devil's Rain. It's not bad in any sense. But nothing stood out to me either. Also took time to listen to some of Doyle's solo stuff. It is wicked!
Michael Graves is super underrated. Famous Monsters and American Psycho are two of my favorite Misfits albums. I really dont like Earth A.D. as it's not melodic enough for me as I'm more into Skacore than "Hardcore" punk anyway. Graves era misfits made some banger tracks like - The Shining, Scream, Don't Open Till Doomsday, Resurrection and Them. Just completely underappreciated. Don't get me wrong Danzig was great and made some amazing songs as well. Hell, Horror Business is probably my favorite Misfits song of all time, but i still really enjoy Graves.
I don’t mind The Devil’s Rain. It’s pretty forgettable, but I think it is the best of the non Danzig record. That’d be my number 4. You’re top 3 is spotless. The rest I never consider, so they can whatever spots.

Egos would never allow it. I would have paid the prices for the stadium shows if Graves was there. Danzig started the Misfits and made some of their hits but they didn't become iconic until Graves got involved. Also no I don't agree with his politics but from a musical perspective it's undeniable to me
@@sXe_Wolverine Absolutely, man. The whole situation is really kind of a shame.
“Graves political opinions are bad!”
-Someone who knows nothing about Danzig’s political opinions.
@@michaelgilman7930 nice what about-ism
@@CustodianVirgil Correct. If you hate Graves for his political opinions, what about Glenn Danzig’s equally right wing opinions? I believe I heard him call the Obama administration the worst horror movie in American history.
Sub question: What does any of that have to do with their music?
I remember when famous monsters came out me and friends really loved it, thought it was an improvement
Metalheads for Graves.
Muy Chingon video mi hermano , saludos desde Tijuana mexico 🤘🏻
I'd personally switch Famous Monsters and Earth AD. And then switch Walk Among Us with Static Age. Famous Monsters is a fantastic album with great riffs, actually deep lyrics, and amazing vocal performances by Graves. It plays like a greatest hits album. Soaring above Earth AD. And I believe Walk Among Us is the quintessential Misfits album. Song after song of iconic misfits. As many great songs as Static Age has, Walk Among Us takes the cake for me. Just my opinion.
But why does he think the demand for him would be higher than Danzig era Danzig literally has a cult following
You hit the nail on the head with every point you made! Great video!!!
Wow.
EVILIVE is what I consider one of the Misfits recordings!!
I picked it up on CD when I was a teenager.. I still have it in pretty good condition. I only play it on special occasions (with beer and friends ) haha
It definitely is one of them
For me: from worst to first. Not sure if these are the same ones you are ranking (I'm a minute into it right now), but, anyways.
8. Devil's Rain (this may belong above 1950, but the truth is I listened to that one more)
7. Project 1950 (they're not great, but I like 50s tunes, saw them live around this time a few times, and I enjoy it).
6. American Psycho (bones, doomsday are favorites)
5. Earth AD (this is awesome, but again, I listen to it less than FM probably... it's less fun than most Misfits)
4. Famous Monsters (forbidden zone, saturday night, scream, among other good ones)
3. Walk Among Us (I know that this is the most legendary, but that's in part b/c this was the only 'Fits LP until 1982, whereas I first heard the band on Collection I... I prefer some of those versions to some of these)
2. 12 Hits From Hell (Bobby Steele is favorite Misfits guitarist)
1. Static Age (If this was released in '78 like it was supposed to, it would be one of the all time first wave classic punk records, easy).
12 hits from hell has both bobby steele and doyle guitar lines, said by the man himself mrs rollins

Ive not heard anything released post Graves but id say
1. Earth AD
2. Statoc Age
3. Walk Among Us
4. Famous Monsters
5. American Psycho
Yes, perfect list. I would've rated these albums in this exact order.
good ranking, i totally agree.. the songs from static age are the best, but i also like saturday night a lot for some reason
*Static Age
*Earth A.D
*Famous Monsters
*American Psycho
Only ones that really matters besides ep’s. But live Graves definitely is better than Danzig
My albums ranked.
#1 FEAR
#2 Cro Mags Age of Quarrel
#3 Plasmatics New Hope
#4 Misfits Static
#5 Circle Jerks Wild
Boot licker, crazy, whatever he may be to you, famous monsters is the album that sticks with me, Doyle’s fat crushing guitar tone pairs perfectly with Jerry’s, Dr. Chud may not stand out from many of the other drummers but he did his job and did it well, and last but not least Graves amazing vocals, I could sing along to every song, wherever, whenever!
100% agree with your rankings there.
7. Project 1950
6. The Devils Rain
5. Famous Monsters
4. Earth A.D.
3. American Psycho
2. Static Age
1. Walk Among Us
I really enjoyed your presentation
Haha “Jerry, Glenn, Doyle and just about any drummer, let’s be real here”. So true
As much as I like Danzig is Earth A.D. really better than Famous Monsters?🧐 I think that was kinda a biased take.
it is better, hope this helps.
brilliant last my man, I dig it 🤘
My Top 3 from Glenn Danzig
1. Horror biz (samhain)
2. Ghouls night out (misfits)
3. Hybrid moments (misfits)
(I don't really like Graves era but Helena is a good track)
I can agree on all that, I also thought Helena was a rocking song.... but come on, where's the love for wolf's blood??? Lol
@@joedont9307 wolf's blood is defenitely in my top 10
Walk among us?????????
@@swampcrypt maybe I got a weird version of it, then. I dunno. I bought it on CD a long time ago and it was almost unlistenable.
Dont forget that Bruiser was used in the movie Bruiser and Fiend without a face was also written for the movie. Plus they play a cameo in the film as the club band as the misfits. Way cooler than them in that ICP movie..
I can't mention every song lol.
this is my exact ranking!
extremely well done video
For reals thanks for standing up for devils reign, i couldnt agree more, it wasnt great but it had some good songs
Somehow Graves being counter culture makes him a bootlicker, but the Bad Religion shirt is real rebellion...
I never claimed to be a rebel and aligning yourself with fascists is about as counter culture putting on a KKK hood and burning crosses.
@@ScoopedMids "never claimed to be a rebel" is "never claimed to be a fascist" but anything you don't like politically is suddenly "bootlicking" 🤣

Did that loser just call graves counter culture??
Hahahaha wow
The misfits resurrection reunion would be 10x more popular than the Danzig one
Lol
Static Age & Walk Among Us are goddamn I can listen to angelfuck forever
Giving Famous Monsters its props was the way here.
My top 3: Walk among us, famous monsters, and static age.
Top 6:
1. Walk Among Us
2. Static Age
3. Earth A.D.
4. November-Coming-Fire
5. Initium
6. Final Descent
Is that a Star Trek insignia above the Chrimsin ghost on Doils guitar strap in 2:20?
yes
Dancing misfits is not nothing but perfect
I don’t mind The Devil’s Rain. It’s pretty forgettable, but I think it is the best of the non Danzig record. That’d be my number 4. You’re top 3 is spotless. The rest I never consider, so they can whatever spots.
Hybrid moments takes me back to the first jackass movie lol those were the days man.
Graves doesn’t get anywhere near the respect he deserves. If you made a top ten Misfits songs list, at least 3 of his are on there.
this is really good
thanks
