That's wrong actually, The region of Anatolia, which includes much of present day Turkey, was predominantly Greek both before and after the rise of the Byzantine Empire. This area was Greek influence long before the Greek Byzantines were there also, and it remained a significant part of Greek cultural and political life throughout the classical and Hellenistic periods of ancient Greece. The Byzantine Empire was Greek in its cultural, linguistic and ethnicity essence for the region of Anatolia/Greece and especially Constantinople . When the Ottomans arrived and conquered Anatolia, they not only took control of the land but also integrated and rebranded many aspects of Greek culture as their own. This included various cultural and musical traditions that originated from Greek communities in the region. The narrative that Turkish culture influenced Greek traditions and music/food is inaccurate; in reality, it was the Greeks who influenced the Ottomans. The Ottomans absorbed Greek cultural elements and then rebranded them as part of their own heritage. This rebranding led to a historical distortion where modern Turkish culture is often mistakenly viewed as the original source of these traditions, rather than acknowledging they were originally mostly Greek with of course some Turkic origins, but the main things that the ottomans influenced to the Greeks was words and names mostly.

As mentioned above, surf and turf involves a combination meal with both seafood and red meat. The “surf” part refers to the seafood, and the “turf” part refers to animals that feed on grass (cows). The red meat is typically grilled while the seafood can be grilled, fried, baked or boiled.
ANYWAY GREAT AND DELICIOUS FOOD!!!!!!!!
Cretan typical food is not a seafood, but meat, vegetable and dairy produce. They started making and offering seafood due to tourism, since tourists expect to eat seafood on an island. 😅 And they miss all the real Cretan food, that's why I filmed only turf! Thanks for your comment and cheers! 🙂🍻
@@AlexMarkTravel My friend , with respect. Crete has a seafood tradition dating back to the minoans. Don't get me wrong , i loved the video , but what you stated is just not true. If you go to villages near the sea you will understand what i mean. And ofc i agree with the rest you said about the other products.
@@BoogieBubble Thanks for letting me know, and I suppose that you are right. Chania for example has mizithra cheese which is typical of Chania, obviously every part of the island has something of it's own when it comes to food, that's why it should be explored as whole.
@@AlexMarkTravel No, I will disagree! I am from Crete, I live in Heraklion and I inform you that we have been eating seafood here for thousands of years! It is also extremely delicious, just like the meat food. Maybe even better. However, we certainly consume more meat and vegetables, but the reason is purely economic. Seafood is more expensive!
@@vs1279 Thanks again for this clarification, Greek people (but not from Crete) told me that seafood is not the main food in Crete. 😀 OK, next time I will try the seafood as well.
I can do without the fries, otherwise I want it all.

What about the students and tourists who care about their money, Chania is not good for them? 😄
@@AlexMarkTravelthe restaurants taverns are still very expensive many students stay at home and make food by themselfs and many tourists eat in the hotel they stay. spesially in the central of chania and the port the prises are very high and may by you are the only one who took receipt
@@lifeisgood5100 Thanks for the explanation. But I think if you are careful and avoid those taverns near the port, that you will be fine. It is normal for students and residents to mostly eat at home. You still can manage to eat out on the budget, but I believe there are cheaper places in Crete. 🙂🍻
@@AlexMarkTravelthere are a lot cheaper places in Crete in Rethymnon and Heraklion, not in chania not in Lassithi/agios nikolaos etc.

Lots of metal on metal action. Not my idea of healthy food preparation. Both the Bougatsavand ice cream.
Yes, it is a bit concerning as the micro flakes of metal can go into the food. I just hope the metal utensils are of high quality at least. 😀

Lokma and rakı are Turkish not Greek man. Be aware what you said.

@Aquarian55 We are talking about Greeks here, not Turks or Venetians...! Who influenced whom the most has to do with who had the greatest culture and as we know, Greek culture is "Olympian..." But of course there was also a mutual influence of all peoples under the Ottoman Empire and of course a relatively common development...
