    4. KANOULA Restaurant - The highlight of our food tour! At Kanoula, we savor a variety of iconic Greek dishes, from moussaka and kavurma to Greek salad, showcasing the best of Greek culinary tradition.
    5. Two More Gyros Spots - Our gyros adventure continues as we explore two more incredible local joints, each offering their unique twist on this classic Greek street food, Aristotelous and Fate Skaste.
    6. Trigona Elenidi - Finally, we end our delicious journey with a visit to Trigona Elenidi. The famous Trigona, a triangular phyllo pastry filled with rich, creamy vanilla cream, a dessert that's a must-try in Thessaloniki.

    In Thessaloniki you must order tzatziki extra as an option it’s not like Athens which is standard. And well done you called our region as Macedonia because this is the right thing to do. Our ancestor doesn’t bother to claim our history and now some Slavs stole our history and name a whole country as Macedonia. Of course now they called North Macedonia but this is not right also Nebraska is their region and this is the right name they should have.

      These dishes have their roots in the Greek cuisine of the Byzantine Empire, which was copied and slightly modified by the Ottomans when they conquered the Greek Byzantine Empire. I wonder where a nomadic people like the Turks, coming from the Mongolian steppes, learned to cook? Did they learn to cook on their horses? The Ottomans learned to eat at the table like humans and had hot gourmet meals, thanks to the Greeks, the real owners of Asia Minor. If you don't know, Thessaloniki is an ancient Greek city from the time of Alexander the Great. The Turks didn't bring it from Mongolia with their suitcases! Just because the Ottomans conquered it and occupied it for 4 centuries does not make it Turkish. A thief never takes ownership of what he steals! 400 years of slavery is almost nothing to Hellenism with a history of thousands of years. The inhabitants of Thessaloniki during the Turkish occupation were ALWAYS predominantly Greek. Thessaloniki was liberated by the Greek army in the Balkan Wars. I inform you that my ancestors were Greeks living in Ionia (Asia Minor) for thousands of years!

    Alex , many of those desserts look like Turkish desserts :-) And what about döner kebab ? It is exactly Turkish döner that we eat in whole Europe ,especially in Germany :-) The difference between gyros and Turkish döner is that Greeks use pork mear while Turks in whole Europe use chicken and lamb ? In Germany, most common fast food is now döner ,it used to be pizza.

      Many of these foods are standard in all of the Balkan countries (except doner and gyro, typical of Turkey and Greece). I grew up eating burek almost every morning, baklava every 1st of May, etc. I personally don't like lamb doner, chicken I like as the most of the shops here are doner kebabs, and I don't have chance to eat gyro often. But for me pork gyro is just 3 levels above the western European doner. I would like to try the doner in Turkey and then compare it again with Greek gyro. Anyway Balkan food is among the best in the world. And I always miss it.

      Hello, well I don't really like tripe, but next time I will try it, either way. When it comes to French fries in gyro pita, I personally remember eating it with fries 35 years ago when I was a kid. In northern Greece, that was a standard even than. So, these stories it started 3-4 years ago, plastic potatoes and everything else, you can tell someone who went to Greece once, but not to me. Also you can taste the gyro even with fries, they are not a sauce so they take over the taste of meat. But I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching. 🍻

      Baklava origin: The three main proposals for the roots of baklava are the Greek placenta cake, the Medieval Arab/Persian lauzinaj, and the Central Asian Turkic tradition of layered breads. Plus some historians relate it to Assyrians. One of the modern versions were also created in Byzantine Empire.

Sarma type of dish exists in China as well. What about Persia? They invented some foods, or they also copied everything from Ottomans? Kajmak which the whole Turkey eats is Serbian invention the original name is skorup. It' impossible that one nation invented all of foods. I never say that sarma is Serbian dish by origin, name is Turkish, but Serbian sarma is better then any other I tried. • @AlexMarkTravel
      @AlexMarkTravel  19 днів тому +12

      What I said is 100% correct. The whole world knows moussaka is a Greek dish. For the other dishes, since they make it in their own way, use pork in kavurma for example. Burek in Serbia it's made with pork lard and tastes 10 times better then Turkish borek, different cheese is used (also meat) and it was reinvented in Serbia in 1500s. Plus Turks didn't invent all the dishes as Ottomans were also copying new dishes from conquered lands. Also if you use pork for some dish instead of only beef or lamb, that pretty much changes the food, don't you think? Persians had kebabs before Turks for example. Most of the sweet stuff you copied from Phoenicians/Lebanon, so learning some proper history is good. Cheers!
