I remember seeing this SNL episode and thinking, "Well, that was sweet." Time has only made my reverence for these two incredible talents grow ever stronger. Watching this clip today absolutely makes my heart soar.
First saw the Beatles in 1962, loved George from the start. The most underestimated of the Beatles, his music and his musicianship were overshadowed by Lennon and McCartney, and he has never really lifted himself completely out of that shadow. This is my favourite of his songs, never fails to lift me, never fails to move. Having my favourite singer and musician of all time sing it with him is sublime. Beautifully done, It brought tears to my eyes as to what we have lost in the kind of music I grew up with in my lifetime.
I think George finally did lift himself out of the shadows of Lennon and McCartney on Abbey Road where his songs Something and Here Comes the Sun were truly two of the greatest Beatles songs. I am so glad he could walk away from The Beatles on par with Lennon and McCartney.
Dear Liz. I totlly agree. I am writing this with tears in my eyes while those two old-school boys sing this wonderful song for me. What a great time for music it was then .... Greetings from Jochen in Tübingen, Germany.
You had to be there when the original came out it was like life was worth living, I can't explain it with these Beatles songs every time they brought songs like this or let be out or Hey Jude, it literally made you feel that life was amazing, I am so thankful to have lived through the Beatles years as these were the best years that life could offer you.
I remember the first time I saw this...so amazing. i used to keep a blank tape in my vcr in case anything special showed up...it was one of my most treasured tapes. This was decades before the internet,
I recall sitting with a group of my fellow Navy Corpsmen (getting wasted ) and when these two gentlemen began playing it was really a wonderful moment. We were blown away by the song and the singers.
YT desperately needs a high fidelity version of this. I have this in my hard drive and it sounds amazing in good quality by far the best version for the guitar splendor.😃😄😁
@@keithhinchcliffe4377 Of course music is a matter of personal taste and opinion, but check this out www.express.co.uk/entertainment/music/1293476/The-Beatles-most-streamed-song-Here-Comes-The-Sun-George-Harrison
I truly believe songs like this will never go away. They are timeless for one reason. The human experience of playing. It is not perfect. It is not flawless. But it’s beautiful to watch the functionality of an artist to perform this live without any automated guidance other than what’s in his heart and soul.
In 2000, I saw this late at night (I was in the 7th-8th grade that summer), and this song made me want to pick up a guitar and play. This made me want to play guitar, and I'm thankful.
It's hard to believe the Beatles ended only 6 years before this. They seemed like ancient history in 1976. Time sure does change your perspective on things.
When you are young, as I am sure you know. a few years is practically a lifetime. To a second grader the 5th graders are like wow so much bigger and more grown up than me and this summer will feel like it is going to last forever. Then you become and adult, and sadly your feelings and perspectives change, ...drastically. LOL.
So much so that, due to The Beatles being ancient in 1976, the night they taped this, it was taped on the Thursday prior to the airing. NBC didn't think about the empty seats, the tickets are for the live show, so they sent the NBC employees into the lobby of the NBC building which has the NYC subway system running thru the basement, to ask commuters if they wanted to see George Harrison and Paul Simon do a taping. Not one person accepted.
Saw it on TV that Thanksgiving weekend many years ago. Even more impressive now. Anyone giving this a thumbs down needs to learn some history, because this is it.
Inspiring! I bought my first accoustic guitar, because of this performance. I was out of school that week for Thanksgiving, and went to the music store as soon as they opened on Monday morning.
Awesome. Harrison was just as good as Lennon and Macca. I don't believe he gets the recognition and it is a shame. Can you imagine if they was all still here, WOW!!!
You can clearly see when Paul gets his solo while GH harmonies that he is elated beyond like never seen. Must have been wishing he could keep George as their new duo/ this was the best acoustic SNL action hands down!
I didn't see this live. I didn't get moved to play guitar. Don't know that I'm moved now to play guitar. That being said... HOLY CRAMOLLIES! This piece of beauty with simply two guitars, two guys, and lyrics/song. Genius. Eat it, modern stars (except for Gaga).
saw this live too. It was beautiful but I was very young then and thought this kind of talent would last forever as kids often do. It's fading and we are losing them way too fast...
John Lennon and Paul McCartney were at the Dakota watching this live. They discussed going down to the SNL studio but decided otherwise. That would have been quote something. Saw this live.
Actually not. John and Paul were watching this SNL episode they were offered 3000 bucks for reuinion and it was 7 months earlier. Next day they clashed and left each other for good. George followed the Lorna Michael`s joke and went to the show more than half a year later and asked 3000 but Michaels offered only 750.
Randy Bailin : I can't dis Lennon. But McCartney is a face and not much soul..just conceit..posing as soul. yes George will always be a pillar among the best..all equal to each other.. in intense, stunning perfection
Kat. You do not know that of which you speak. You assume much. The key word here is assume. Paul had a wonderful relationship with Linda and his children. This speaks volumes about him, all of it good. Songs like "Liitle Willow" or "Here Today" are special and come from the heart.
I think it was a great album, pretty much all the way through, but yes, it certainly highlighted that it wasn't just Lennon/McCartney. I personally think the Beatles had 3 of the best singer/songwriter/musicians of the day(Then and now maybe), I guess the band had to succeed to some degree!
I think it's very interesting that the camerawork is very similar here to what modern camerawork would be, with slow zoom outs from the guitar, close ups on the faces, etc. Looks like it could've been filmed in modern day is what I'm trying to get at.
I saw this on SNL when it aired. I loved it then and still do.
MEMORIES: SAW THIS ON TV. WOW. Beautiful.
George Harrison was such a beautiful human being
So was Paul Simon and still is
I'm with you on that one brother 😎
Things that I have heard over the years about George Harrison has completely changed how I feel about him and his wonderful way he life was 💞💞❤️
@@SamSveistrup Not really no as you're comparing the two, no he isn't
Having recently listened to Pattie Boyd recalling her life I am convinced he definitely was not. Good musician but that's all.
In my opinion there is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
And what couple of performers! wow!
So glad George was able to expose the world to the treasure trove of his own songs when he was on his own.
Absolutely beautiful @
Love this song, no mater what is going on. In my life this song 🎵 makes everything all right. One of George's best and that is saying alot!
I loved growing up in the 70's. We had great music and it endures. Wish I could do it again. These two are sublime.
I never get tired of this. Paul Simon does such a great job of complimenting George on this. It makes you realize what real talent is - fantastic!

I couldn't imagine getting excited over ANY musical guest on what passes for Saturday Night Live these days.
George is an angel I believe, the kind who'd been sharing and spreading his wisdom and love.
I remember seeing this SNL episode and thinking, "Well, that was sweet." Time has only made my reverence for these two incredible talents grow ever stronger. Watching this clip today absolutely makes my heart soar.
Two of the most powerful great talents in almost all generations meeting themselves.
No autotune here. Pure talent.
Big Masters don't need any cheap tricks.
Got that right
I remember seeing this when it aired in 76. What a special treat. RIP George. Paul thank you for sharing your talent with the world!
They should have done an album together....they sound great together!

the 'greatest'? By whose definition? That's quite a stretch, my friend.

Aw George, sure miss you. Glad we still have BOTH Pauls though (McCartney and Simon). Such elegance in this performance.

Thanks for these Moments! These are the ones to send out to the Universe, the very best of Humans in the 20th Century
I remember watching this on tv back on the island of Guam. I was more fascinated by Paul Simon’s fingerstyle picking.
George was clearly just a Wilbury in training here.

Great song, so timeless.......
Richie Havens sang it at Woodstock 1969, it sounded great coming from him as well......
Magnificent talent.
