automated trucks is a meme pushed by soyboys that are scared to drive. I've seen the (admittedly few years old now) vids of cruising around in perfectly dry, sunny, flat, AZ, with no traffic. The truck still emergency braked 3 or 4 times from 65 to 30 or less, in a 5 mi span (like 3 entry ramps). And cut off or dragged a trailer across multiple active lanes while trying to turn. DC to DC out in the plains...sure go to for it, people will die but it saves 3 cents a mile over a decade. Last mile demand will go up, we can kick out all the turd worlders that are the only ones dumb enough/desperate enough to do OTR anyways, and the first person to get got crossing the street in front of one of these things will put it on pause for a decade. You either need dedicated lanes/roads (aka tracks), or every other passenger car to be automated first before it's smart to try CDLs. You don't try to make the hardest possible, least predictable situations controlled by computers first.
