just so you know, this is gonna be the last video on the topic of cheap cameras and why I'm irrationally attached to the T3i :) from now on will focus on actually making stuff rather than testing/talking about gear!
You can test and talk about gear. People are just tired of the same "oh, i wouldn't get a better camera because my t3i is so good at everything", specially when you do these biased reviews with really expensive cameras instead of making the same videos with a camera that costs around 2000€ and would get a much better image that t3i's, without spending tons of money. If you want to keep the t3i, that's fine. Just stop making this comparisons with 1M€ cameras because that's just nonsense.
It's a great way to get viewers interested. I mean, you are on the internet, and a lot of activity on here is consumerism. So it is very nice that you draw people to actual art.
I more than understand that you rather not spend loads of money on expensive cameras which you won't you and I admit that most of these upgrades would be pricey and go against your morals but in 2017 there are many cameras that would fit your values such as the panasonic g7 4k 1080p 60p flip out screen and a few extras for £530 with lens that should be a good deal maybe you should check it out even as a rental the upgrade would be huge but the price is more than reasonable I don't think any of us would mind you changing your camera plus this camera is fairly affordable in any case thanks for reading this you always made great content
I disagree on that, Estuca... I think the point that he is making is actually pretty good and solid: the difference that you will get from the Red compared to the t3i is not proportional with the difference in money spent. If we do the same comparison but on the oposite direction (let say a 100U$D cellphone camera VS the t3i) then that same difference between quality/money spent will be super proportinal. I think this type of videos are super useful to see this difference and therefore expand the spectrum when it comes to knowledge in this filmworld topic. And personally, the last bit about getting a super expensive camera but asking for the rest of the people to work in a super low budget is a very good, empathic (empatethic? whatever) human point of view.
@DSLRguide I agree with your point, that investing in better lenses, to a certain degree can make a $500 DSLR, look similar to a more expensive camera. With that said, having either a 2K or 4K sensor, in camera's such as Panasonic's GH4, or a cheaper alternative, but loose one or two features, their G85 camera, with the right picture profile, along with utilizing built in zoom, to check focus is an advantage. Not only that, the ability to enhance your overall image, similar to how you can on Cannon, with "Cine-Style", to replicate C-Log, or "Raw", to enhance the overall picture, so that later in post production, you can edit it to how you want it to look, with the bonus of being able to use LUT's on Panasonic's camera's is also an advantage. Theirs only so much you can do with a cheap DSLR, an with the camera industry pushing improvements with point and shoot camera's, and catching up in firmware features, not only with 2K an 4K resolution variants, but also making them more like DSLR's, with the ability to attach lenses, is making them a more satisfiable purchase.
I really don't understand why people wouldn't want their favorite creators to make extra money to keep the content flowing. It literally takes a few seconds of your time to click the skip ad button.

You're very much older now lol. And highly experienced. You've always spoke so much about gear and your iconic t3i. Some people can't live with it, some can, and I can. Great video as always.
I was anxious about shooting a long-form (zero budget) project on my t3i, stressing I’d need, or couldn’t afford, better gear. Thank you for putting everything into perspective, and settling my nerves. Now I can’t wait to shoot!
I'm always in the mindset that your ideas are more important than equipment.Working around your limitations makes you a better creatively, regardless of your situation. But to a degree I think it's fine to spend money on your passions, whether it's cameras, cars or whatever. There's nothing wrong with that per say, until you become the sort of person who brags about it, or looks down on others for not having it - or even worse, saying you can't be creative without it. Great video again as usual my man 🙌
I'm so happy that your youtube channel exists! It's amazing how you inspire people on getting out there and not only focus on the gear. In times where a lot of successful youtubers are now getting over board with their expensive tools, your channel helps especially beginners a lot. Keep that good work going!
Well done as always. I love how much you teach and instruct people how much more important the story and content is rather than just the gear. I've followed your stuff for a very long time, and you've always stayed true to that message. Nice work my friend.
I get it. Well said. Red is a high budget camera that fits the needs of those in larger productions. If you’ve gotten into the industry and want to really make money, don’t dare show up with a t3i when you’re getting paid huge money haha. But he’s right, if you just want to do UA-cam stuff and the footage looks good enough, why upgrade? I got a C100 because I’m with you about not needing realistically more than a solid 1080 and maybe some prores. I bought it because I’m a cinematographer and I want to be able to produce the best images I can, and once you learn to use lights, having a better image capture definitely helps improve the look.
The best thing about this video ? You showed me that the camera I have is 100% good enough (well I knew that before, but now I don't feel like I have to get another camera).
Somebody once told me to dive deep into your editing software and learn all the different layers available. That was eight months ago I'm still diving. It just keeps going and going. It never stops having something new
So happy i found this channel. I began university pursuing a B.F.A. in film. I am currently taking my foundations courses so I haven't formally begun learning about film. This channel is so helpful in aiding me in creating while I get through my first two years.
Simon is the type of youtuber to end a video @ 6 second before the 10 minute mark because he cares more about his content than ad rev. Well done Simon, been with you before 100K.
I got a Nikon D5300 which does 1080p at 60fps. I paired it with some Sigma lenses (just because I like the bokeh of Sigma) and it works great for video. I even threw a flat profile onto it to gain detail and it honestly looks awesome. Film shouldn't be about gear. It should be about stories and characters. Then again, that's coming from a film nerd who is deeply obsessed with the Dogma'95 movement.
You are stupid then lol nobody is getting the point ! he is using t3i because that is what he needs for the moment and NOT because its the best camera ever
actually a t3i is an extremely good camera for the price. I have the Nikon counter part that cost around the same and it is miles behind the t3i when it comes to video. Pictures tho I do like the Nikon better
I think you missed the most important part here: skin tones & color science. The ARRI will keep a consistent skin tone under different conditions whereas cheaper cams fail.
Love your closing statement! Been watching your channel for some time now, and it keeps me grounded. Thank you for being the voice of reason. Canon 80D for life!
That’s a really good video. I just had the same thought. Once a week we shoot with red also. And once a week I use for my UA-cam channel a dslr. And more and more I feel relieved when I have this small 5d in my hands. Knowing he battery is gonna last for hours. And the cards as well. In both cases (not always) I control my lighting so I doesn’t make a huge difference. Just when I do visual effect in my UA-cam video. I’m like. Damn. I wish I had the red from work now. But it’s alright. You nailed it with this video. Having a cheaper camera makes us grow in our mindset and creativity 👍
5:53 - Lies. It takes 5 seconds in Da Vinci resolve to select the brightest luminance and drag them down and then track it. Done in a minute (hardware dependent obviously)
Excellent video. One of the most honest and comprehensive reviews of comparison I have seen on UA-cam. I use a Canon T3i and like many attributes of it, but it does have its limitations.
you have matured so much! been following you since the early days ......now you are sounding like a pro! keep up the excellent work. i love your passion
There is one big thing I think is important. Strong colorgrading on a low end DSLR can look really ugly and limiteds your freedom of creating great looks because the footage completely falls apart, because of heavy compression.
Why do people complain about this video? You got the price, you got the quality. Again, his video is convincing me once again for being "enough" with what I have. This really helps some people like me to get started and go ahead instead of complaning of not having the best camera; and for you who are a gear-head. Thank you, from Indonesian.
I feel like this kinda of videos are your strong suit, from what i've seen from you so far. Its beyond inspirational. Thank you. I totally agree on all points.
Also noticed: at 4:15, DSLR shot shows moire artifacts in the window drapes. (Probably due to the DSLR skipping sensor rows in video mode). The RED shot at 4:10 is clean, but it was captured reading the entire sensor.
Good video, RED cam is miles ahead better if you compare side by side, but the DSLR still captured a very nice image. Noise is there but it doesn't affect the story or pace.
When i first saw your videos I was stunned by the quality, it was so good. Knowledge about lightning and all the other things seems to be the key. I’ve seen a lot of different videos shot on some high quality gear like Red cameras that still won’t reach your quality.
this is really great, i'm finally with a camera that is mine , the canon t3i and i just want to use her the best way possible.I'm really happy. The real thing is knowing how to use your equipament well and buying another things that make everything stand out like lights and of course investing in know how to tell stories visually and this goes to any equipament. Thank you for your work. I''m watching from Brazil, as always an awesome video!
You made another video on this topic, but it was very on-the-fly and lacked technical explanations, so it was awesome to see you revisit the subject with a more in-depth look. I'm finally getting back into making videos myself, and this is the kind of thing I like to study.
@Matthew Lingren Theirs only so much you can do with a cheap DSLR, an I agree with @DSLRguide view point, that investing in better lenses, to a certain degree, can make a $500 DSLR, look similar to a more expensive camera. The point that also has to be made in this scenario, is that the camera industry as a whole, is pushing improvements now with not only point and shoot camera's, which is only happening because of mirror-less technologies. Even companies such as GoPro, implementing mirror-less technologies it into their new GoPro Hero 6 camera's, which is showing the potential in revolutionizing camera's into smaller bodies, which is allowing for catching up with firmware features. We're now seeing 2K an 4K resolution variants, which in the past wouldn't of been possible, even also making them more like DSLR's, in terms of some point and shoot camera's, the ability to attach lenses, is making them a more satisfiable purchase. At the rate GoPro is going, I can see them competing with the likes of RED, now that they know what their doing, and that theirs a demand for a new company on the block to step foot into the "Higher End" camera industry for extreme conditions which other camera's wouldn't be able to work in as efficiently as theirs.
Simon, thank you for everything you do... For your wisdom and encouragement, words spoken in your calm and soothing voice keep me from obsessing over things that aren't needed...
I really appreciate this video Simon. Thank you for sticking to your guns on this, I have a t3i as well, and I love it! Keep it up, you're doing a great job!
This is so simply and engagingly explained. Thank you! I'm currently in the process of buying a new affordable camera, a little step higher above my t2i aiming at Sonyn a77. And I almost started looking into more expensive one cause "specs", but this brought me back to earth, I don't need the specs!
such a practical and realistic lad (total respect). I appreciate your perspective. To be honest, I love high-end gear and get "sirened in" by the REDs or how about a Panavision Millennium? 8O. But the fact still remains; high-end equipment does not a good story make. Thanks Simon. I'd love to make a film with you someday.
Good one Simon, and I don't mind it being longer. It's what you have to say and you said it well. You've said it before in a sense when you talked about buying a new camera and decided not to. I'm sticking to my Rebel, I have some lights and a Zoom, I'm alright for what I like to do. I just need to get better organised! Cheers
I'm currently going through hell with my current project. Watching this is so amazing. Its inspires me that I can make amazing film no matter the resources. Thank you Simon!
Thanks bud! This meant a lot. Got stuck on with watching camera specs and reviews for a few months now. Instead of watching specs, I should have just gone out and shoot and start recording!! Kudos man.
I know you always say you'll never buy a new camera, but at times I just figure you have nearly 700k subs, and I'm guessing enough money via ads and sponsors to perhaps just buy another camera, it doesn't have to be super amazing, something like an A7s M1 is under £1000 and it would allow you to do things you wouldn't otherwise be able to do. I mean I must admit, even though a lot of the footage from your camera looks good it does sometimes feel lacking, the grain can at times look a bit off putting. I just think you ought give it a try.
You do realise that the reason he won't get a new one is because of the budget of his audience? Personally I find it much more inspiring to see videos that I can create with my own equipment than to come up with the excuse of him having more expensive gear. There are plenty of film channels on UA-cam with great video quality, this one is not one of them and that is how the channel has gotten so successful in the first place.
The reason people with smaller cameras are still learning from him because he didn't upgrade his Camera. What if he would have Red all the time, will a guy like me who shoots on d5100 would be watching all his techniques which work with Red, NO. I would look for another guy who could let me know that how to work with subjects and lighting equipments to get better footage. And when you are gonna blend that same with higher end cameras in future, you are gonna shine bright like a diamond in film making
I think him staying with the T3i is more of a statement than a monetary limitation. But I do think it's about time for an upgrade, maybe a Sony a6500 ;)
Maxwell This channel, In my opinion, does have great video quality, especially in terms of lighting. I actually like the soft look and grain. I know what you mean, though.
I've just started video but i bet he gonna say t3i is still the best camera for him. Let's see. I will edit this post. Edit: yea as expected. But what happened your background? It's too blank.
So many people throw money at things thinking it will make it better. I enjoy your videos because we have the same principle of improving your skills with what you have. I also appreciate what you say so many times, "...get out there and film, do small projects." That is my problem, not getting out there. Thank you Simon.
So, for those of you who didn't understand, this is not just T3i vs RED... this is about any cheap camera vs expensive ones...this is about stop giving excuses to buy a new camera and do something with what you have! Because gear is just a tool in a filmmaker´s box, and you have so many more things to worry about, STORY for example! And yes, you can have the best camera in the world(btw there´s no such a thing) , but if you don´t know how to use it or if you simply suck.. then it´s worthless! If you shoot events and you don´t have control of almost anything, then maybe you need ISO, stabilization, ND, etc...but if you´re making short movies, then all you need is a camera and creativity! Anyway...congratulations Simon Cade on your work and thanks for sharing your vision with us! It´s probably difficult not to fall into trends and to buy a boosted board, shoot everything in slow motion, go to fancy places and show your hot girlfriend preferably in bikini...but that´s what makes you unique!!! Keep up the good work! Hugs
Red use 800 native iso, iso setting on red just metadata, and for the window shot, like you do, just use HDRX feature, take 2 videos simultaneously. And you can blend in post. Better then you up the shadow or latitude test
Interesting comparison, wasn't surprised about your final solution though😊 Some gimmicks are nice to have but as usual it depends on what you shoot. Nice vid, as usual👍
Thanks for that video. I made the same experience with slog footage when it comes to colorgrading: either you lose your highlights or your shadows suffers. But I think the point is: You can decide in post what makes most sense in the current situation.
Another great video Simon! Love that you worked with two cameras on opposite ends of the spectrum. You mentioned that there was a lot of latitude in between, and I wanted to mention some of my favorite midrange cameras / lenses that give you incredible bang for your buck, but still relatively budget-friendly. Three favorite cameras: Panasonic G85 - Dual IS = this party trick. Kit lens is fantastic - 12-60. Shoots gorgeous 4K. Upgrade with a Metabones Speedbooster to take this camera into another world. Panasonic G7 - Most budget friendly 4K - in the hands of a skilled camera operator, you've got some incredible images. Canon 80D - Love the larger sensor - Canon color science is fantastic - decent dynamic range - shallow depth of field - autofocus is pretty brilliant Lenses: Because I bought my speed booster almost immediately, I only have the kit lens for the G85, so I can double dip with my Canon lenses. Canon 50mm 1.8 STM, Sigma 17-50 2.8 VC, Sigma 18-35 1.8 ART, Canon 10-18 IS STM (only for Canon), Canon 70-200 F4 (old model - get on eBay for a steal). Invest in a Tripod, slider, chest mount, some decent audio and a set of Yongnuo LED lights and you've got yourself in A+ midrange film kit. As long as your crew is skilled, use your budget on talented actors, and good eats. Peace! PS - I always downscale to 1080 in post and agree not to "cheat" with the movements. I just love how sharp of a 1080 image you end up with and helps out in lowlight to shoot in 4K.
There are ways to to qualify the brightest parts and quickly bring in the correctly exposed windows-- however, I do agree that it's okay to blow windows out! If it's bright, it's bright! Nice and realistic comparison. I can see this being a great confidence booster to those who don't get opportunity to use the high end gear.
The FS100 (nearly 8 years old at this point!) has been my go-to camera since mid-2015. It's really conducive to my fast-turn around, run n' gun shooting style, with the internal XLR inputs giving me really solid sound on-set with no need to sync in post later, and the fact that it can be stripped down to an incredibly light-weight shooting solution if that's what I need. On the flip-side of the coin, with a little bit of extra rigging around the camera, it has served me well on just about every higher-budget production on which I've used it, because it still brings some features to the table that speed up production, (excellent low-light in particular), but allows me to use some pretty amazing lenses, and gives just enough extra colour information that I can actually do quite a bit to dial in the look of a piece. For me, it's the best of both worlds.
Really love your stuff Simon ! I'm on the cheap camera side too, and I would totally go for people, lighting and locations before spending more for a camera. Thank you so much for not being one of those youtubers which are just talking about expensive stuff and not shooting a damn thing :) Keep up the great, inspiring work :)
i don't know if I'll ever get to use a red camera. I have a canon rebel t6i for my youtube channel, but I would like to upgrade to a bit of a better DSLR- like the 80d. I cant stand having to downgrade to 720p to get 60fps.
This video was 100x better than the previous csmera comparison, which I openly criticised heavily. I use a GH5, after upgrading from a T5i (700D) and it was so worth it, usabability improvements and other factors, such as on sensor stabilisation and superv battery life made it a great upgrade for me, but Simon is right, lighting, composition and solid planning can help massively...
I can't wait to see your first big budget film! Knowing how to work with limited resources is one of the most valuable skills you could have. If you were given millions of dollars, I'm sure you'd use every penny so wisely that you would make a cinematic experience that no one has ever made before!
Excellent but *extreme* difference, and what would more realistic and interesting is using a Full Frame DSLR and Mirrorless in the $2K to $4K price range e.g. Nikon D750, Canon 6D Mark 2, Sony A7R series .. with good glass.
@DSLRguide Could you do a video on the upkeep of camera and lighting equipment please? For example where you'd store your lenses to avoid fungus growth, how to clean your camera and lighting equipment properly etc. Thank you Simon.
Nice thing is that the quality increase is logarithmic to cost (in my experience). That is, spending an extra $500 over entry-level will take care of a notable portion of that image difference between barebones entry and top-end.
just so you know, this is gonna be the last video on the topic of cheap cameras and why I'm irrationally attached to the T3i :) from now on will focus on actually making stuff rather than testing/talking about gear!

No one gonna praise simon for not extending the vid to go over 10 minutes? For that extra ad rev
GassedUpUK - Video over 10 minutes get two ads, yes.
You can choose to add an "ad break". You'll start noticing UA-camrs making their videos 10 minutes and a couple seconds to get some extra money hahaha
I really don't understand why people wouldn't want their favorite creators to make extra money to keep the content flowing. It literally takes a few seconds of your time to click the skip ad button.

Exactly. Rocking the t3i still is seriously awesome.
I have a tape cassette deck for sale. Who needs 16bit 44,1khz right?
When the T3i breaks, Simon buys the T2i.
You were to comment through Camera Conspiracies but were logged in in this account? Wait, when did Camera Conspiracies start actually?
The year is 2065, hologram movies are now mainstream and simon will still be using his rebel cameras lol
The year 2195, Simon upgrading to canon 700d
2076: why I switched to the 550D
yeh i think he's pushing down on this stuff too much now. low light performance and high res have some massive advantages and don't actually cost too much. by the time he's finished making this point he will have upgraded quietly

Sooooo funny you guys LOL🤣
Whenever I fall victim to "Gear Acquisition Syndrome", I calm myself by watching this. Thanks :)

Shining Sun Entertainment nice to see someone quoting Pete!
Shining Sun Entertainment Yeah, surely Blade Runner 2049 could be shot on an Iphone, right???
Wrong...
Peter Mckinnon relies on his gear - slow motion - for 90% of his shots.
@@darcymiller2246 And we all rely on our gear to take video or pictures. I think you've missed the point.
I love that you still have your T3i too, it's such a good camera for its price, and when you buy a good lens with it the quality is incredible.

Well done Simon, been with you before 100K.
simon be like: t3i > everything else
I bought a t3i because of him
Eric & Myles Should have gotten a BMCC
It is truly encouraging to see you not obsess over gear and find creative solutions to tell a story the way you intend to.
I think you missed the most important part here: skin tones & color science. The ARRI will keep a consistent skin tone under different conditions whereas cheaper cams fail.
I think it's actually so cool you still shoot on the T3i, seriously impressive in this day and age (:
Valley Films ya even thou it’s out dated like insane. But you should always keep your first camera it’s a good look back at memories.
Infancinema a 5D is a PRO DSLR. nothing like the t3i.
so? next to a red its a toy
5:53 - Lies. It takes 5 seconds in Da Vinci resolve to select the brightest luminance and drag them down and then track it. Done in a minute (hardware dependent obviously)
Dlsr guide: *think of all the t3is i could buy for the cost of the red camera!*
The humility that you have exhibited at the end of the video is heartwarming! kudus, keep shooting!
Phenomenal stuff! Always inspired to see that you've stayed true to your lower budget philosophy and continue to bring great content. Keep it up!!
Always so spot on Simon. Great video. Law of diminishing returns definetly applies to cameras. More filmmakers need to realize this.
Love this video. I have seen the "Smartphone vs. the RED" videos, but this is a really cool comparison. Keep em up.
Caught this one at 931 views. Always a fan of your stuff, Simon. I love the camera comparisons that you do.
Yeah do more with the GH5 next!
Matthew Lingren you look a lot like simon in your picture, are you actually Simon? I joke :) he does great videos.
Who cares about views
Blackmagic pocket cinema camera is the best for me for long time. Can't get enough of this
Simon, thank you for everything you do... For your wisdom and encouragement, words spoken in your calm and soothing voice keep me from obsessing over things that aren't needed...
I really appreciate this video Simon. Thank you for sticking to your guns on this, I have a t3i as well, and I love it! Keep it up, you're doing a great job!
Great video man, I shot my first music video on a canon rebel t5i.
I invested in a Sony a7rii and that is what I'm using now for my videos.
Divineshot 314 and what do you think about the t5i I'm considering buying one
Tech Junkies it's a great starter camera!
can you check my videos and tell me if you think i should upgrade as soon as possible or just take it easy?
Tech Junkies yeah checking them out now.
Tech Junkies for the videos you are making, your camera quality is great, I would take it easy.
This is so simply and engagingly explained. Thank you! I'm currently in the process of buying a new affordable camera, a little step higher above my t2i aiming at Sonyn a77. And I almost started looking into more expensive one cause "specs", but this brought me back to earth, I don't need the specs!
your videos are a pleasure to watch...real, logical, humble and smart perspective on the subject...thank you!
Wow! great video Simon! Especially loved the bit with 3d movement vs real movement
such a practical and realistic lad (total respect). I appreciate your perspective. To be honest, I love high-end gear and get "sirened in" by the REDs or how about a Panavision Millennium? 8O. But the fact still remains; high-end equipment does not a good story make. Thanks Simon. I'd love to make a film with you someday.
Anyone else find his voice super relaxing? This is my ASMR!
yeah! his videos are really nice to listen to
Your conent getting better and better with every upload
Good one Simon, and I don't mind it being longer. It's what you have to say and you said it well. You've said it before in a sense when you talked about buying a new camera and decided not to. I'm sticking to my Rebel, I have some lights and a Zoom, I'm alright for what I like to do. I just need to get better organised! Cheers
I'm currently going through hell with my current project. Watching this is so amazing. Its inspires me that I can make amazing film no matter the resources. Thank you Simon!
Yes! If you turn up the quality you can really see it! REALLY, REALLY CLOSE THOUGH!
just wanted to say i love ur vids! they're so informative and totally calm
Thanks bud! This meant a lot. Got stuck on with watching camera specs and reviews for a few months now. Instead of watching specs, I should have just gone out and shoot and start recording!! Kudos man.
I love your thoughts. I always become more thankful for the t3i that I have when I watch your stuff. Great work man.
the video was not getting long, love this type of videos. bring more like this!
Thanks for the honest review and for sharing your perspective on this. I completely agree with you.
You help me so much. You teach what isn't usually spoken: the truth of what we are. Not what we want to become. Thank you, Simon!
But I do think it's about time for an upgrade, maybe a Sony a6500 ;)
BadMouseProductions what do you have against a meritocracy
Great video Simon! Love it👍🏻
excellent video! I like how realistic and frugal you are when it comes to your budget.
That's the kind of videos that we truly love! Thanks for the effort!
I love your videos! Very high quality and informative and well spoken. Keep it up
Interesting comparison, wasn't surprised about your final solution though😊 Some gimmicks are nice to have but as usual it depends on what you shoot. Nice vid, as usual👍
5:35 taking down the highlights is how you keep the contrast in midtones and shadows while recovering your windows..
Three favorite cameras:
Panasonic G85 - Dual IS = this party trick. Kit lens is fantastic - 12-60. Shoots gorgeous 4K. Upgrade with a Metabones Speedbooster to take this camera into another world.
Panasonic G7 - Most budget friendly 4K - in the hands of a skilled camera operator, you've got some incredible images.
Canon 80D - Love the larger sensor - Canon color science is fantastic - decent dynamic range - shallow depth of field - autofocus is pretty brilliant
Lenses: Because I bought my speed booster almost immediately, I only have the kit lens for the G85, so I can double dip with my Canon lenses.
The bit about dynamic range and compensating for cheap cameras was really interesting.
I enjoyed watching this video like all other videos of yours. You explain things very nicely. I love it. Thank You for helping me learn Film Making.
Always great content Simon!
Thank you for making this video!!! I been trying to justify the purchase of my 4th t3i! Keep it up DSLRgod
i don't know if I'll ever get to use a red camera. I have a canon rebel t6i for my youtube channel, but I would like to upgrade to a bit of a better DSLR- like the 80d. I cant stand having to downgrade to 720p to get 60fps.
lexamazing panasonic g7?
TRIDENT STUDIOS maybe, definitely a good option, although i am a little biased towards canon lenses
Strongly second the Panasonic G7. I own a Canon T6i/750D and the G7 makes it look like a joke for video.
Just get a micro cinema camera for slow-motion.
I shoot with the Panny G85 and cant recommend it enough! So solid for video
your voice is to relaxing! so soothing in a good way lol
Simon is my spirit animal
I love your voice dude. And the way you speak, it is so soothing.
I love your camera comparison videos
PERFECT! Awesome video mate. And I agree with you.
I can't wait to see your first big budget film! Knowing how to work with limited resources is one of the most valuable skills you could have. If you were given millions of dollars, I'm sure you'd use every penny so wisely that you would make a cinematic experience that no one has ever made before!
yeah, slo mo may be overdone, but it is awesome. I would kill for 4k at 120fps, get that BUTTERY SMOOTH
Nice vibes! At the end it's how u use your gear, not how much it costs that matters!
Excellent but *extreme* difference, and what would more realistic and interesting is using a Full Frame DSLR and Mirrorless in the $2K to $4K price range e.g. Nikon D750, Canon 6D Mark 2, Sony A7R series .. with good glass.
Just love your view point on each aspect
Totally agree, memory costs and time in post is killing me on just multi cam 1080p for youtube videos. I can't imagine moving to 4K let alone 8K.
Simon in 2030 when smartphones are shooting 16K footage. "And that is why I still use the T3i"
@DSLRguide Could you do a video on the upkeep of camera and lighting equipment please? For example where you'd store your lenses to avoid fungus growth, how to clean your camera and lighting equipment properly etc. Thank you Simon.
Nice thing is that the quality increase is logarithmic to cost (in my experience). That is, spending an extra $500 over entry-level will take care of a notable portion of that image difference between barebones entry and top-end.
