as someone who is (most likely) on the ace spectrum, Caddy coming out made me so happy. especially because there aren't many canon ace characters p much anywhere, so.

Can we take a moment to appreciate that Molly, our bisexual God, and Caduceus, Ace dad, are both played by Taliesin perfectly?
Molly was pan, tho. Taliesein made a comment about it, although pretty lightly.
the differences in all his characters is amazing from Percy, Molly, and now Caduceus.
Taliesin is, HIMSELF, a god.

I was just so happy when this episode aired. Loved the twitch chat too - it was flooded with ace hearts for the rest of the episode lol
Also both of the people are brilliant characters
Best thing about the representation in Crit Role is that the characters are all something other than their sexuality, gender, race, disability etc. People like Bryce, 'Deuces, Beau and Yasha are so much more than what they identify as, and its nice to see the right kind of representation finally. I mean, I went 87 episodes not realising 'Deuces was Ace, because it didn't matter. That wasn't what his personality was about, and that's a great thing.
Taliesan said the same thing. if the opportunity didn't arise naturally he wouldn't have outright declared 'Deuces ace on the show.

Totally agree! It's rare nowadays not to find characters whose "personality" is all about their sexual orientation, while what really should make characters (and people) special is much more than just who they'd like to have sex with.
PS: I'm a straight dude but I love Caduceus
it was kinda clear through Talisan's performance but I agree it was such a tiny part of his character I didn't really think about it until they drew attention to it
Dagen is pretty cool, too. Though I've always wondered, if he could possibly regain the use of his legs with the same spell that changed Nott back into Veth.
Every asexual and ace-spec person I know (including myself), headcanoned Cad as ace before this moment. When this moment came, I was overjoyed. This is the ace/aro representation we need- someone who loves their friends and family fully, fights fiercely, and is not in the slightest interested in romance or "adult fun time".

The Fjordeuces shippers were destroyed that day. But it always felt (to me, at least) even before then that Cad wasn't really into romance. Especially with the Talks during the Kiln visit

I am an ace who loved Fjordeuces but I'll take ace representation over Fjordeuces any day.
I'll admit, it bums me out a little, but I'll take their having a good, wholesome relationship. Comraderie between two guys don't have to be romantic. :)

I thought cad always gave off ace vibes along with the fact he had for most of his life only been surrounded by his family and people morning the death of loved ones
I mean seriously, if you're working through death, it's kinda only natural you'd focus on yourself, and seeing your family like that is a bit uh... a bit uh
This gives off a really uncomfortable implication that being ace is a product of one's environment and upbringing and not just a thing that you are.
It's kinda obvious because it's clear that Taliesin made cad the oposite of Molly, and well, Molly was an pansexual...

This doesn't mean that non-het sexualities are a symptom of trauma, because they aren't, but they are kind of a product of our environment, just like our sense of humor, what we find attractive, our favorite foods, what's our favorite color. Something doesn't have to be biologically intrinsic to be valid, being a part of the world and influenced by the world is a part of being human. I think that debating nature vs nuture for most things though is completely irrelevant. Why does it matter if you're biologically predisposed to be something or if you became that way because of your environment? There's no way to tell, and scientists who've tried to get inconsistent results. What's more important is that you're living the life you love, not necessarily why you love the things you do.
Why is taliesin Jaffe just the gold standard for CR representation? As someone who saw themselves so much Molly, I'm so proud Taliesin continues to do this.

this was such a great moment to watch as an asexual person. it was my headcanon for a long time but it feels so good to get confirmation and to see it all play out so naturally
It's funny whenever I come across fanimations of this episode. I'm extremely late to the CR fandom and this episode was my first, but this scene endeared me to Caduceus so much just because of how well Taliesin RPs him. As stated a million times in the other comments, it's an aspect of his personality, but it's not the focus. Not ace myself, but I was so glad to see the CR cast was being supportive of non-cishet folk. Friggin love Caduceus, and friggin love Taliesin.
I mean, the cast at the start was; bisexual mage, two muscle lesbians and a pansexual demon dude. The cast by the end was: Essek; demiromantic/sexual, Yussa;a transgender man, Bryce, an enby, Otis, who went by all pronouns, Caduceus; ace/aro… and that’s just the ones I remember off the top of my head. They are really inclusive.

As an ace, this kinda blindsided me. I didn't expect to have representation, but it just being so casual and matter-of-fact... one of the reasons I love this show.
Well he technically said it a couple times before! Not in this obvious manner though, it was more subtle.
As someone who is a part of the LGBTQ+ community and has dozens of LGBTQ+ D&D characters, this reveal made me so happy! Thanks for animating one of my favourite Caduceus moments, I love our big sweet boy.
It’s so great to see ace rep in such complex characters, all of whom have proven to be much more than any label. I immediately loved Caduceus’ character, and these little moments with him make me so freakin’ happy

I feel like the term, "comes out" suggests that he was hiding it before. I don't think he was ever hiding it, he just didn't consider it important enough to bring up outside of a relevant moment.
Cad's reaction and response is literally just me. I miss the flirting cues and then just shrug it off afterwards. It's amazing to see Tal portray him exactly the same way I feel about romance and stuff.
Caduceus being ace was one of the reasons I decided to get into Critical Role. It makes me so happy to see representation.

Whenever anyone on the ace spec comes out I feel warm in my soul. So many of us kinda just suffer through social interactions and pressure from other people quietly out of fear of the denial, rejection, or outright interrogation that comes after we tell people about it.
Seeing someone just come out and the world moves on is...ah! It's like those satisfying videos, y'know?

Oh, tbh I'm only on episode 63 and I've kinda just assumed Caduceus was ace so the title made me think "wait, Clay's gay?" But no, just confirmed what I thought lol
I came out as Ace to my family shortly before this episode aired. Caduceus being so casual about it was honestly a huge boost to my confidence at the time.
There were so many moments where Caduceus would say something and I'd think "Well, that's familiar" or "I've definitely said that before", so I pretty much knew all along. However, it's still fantastic to get the confirmation for it.
As sad as I was to see fjorclay sink for good, it makes me so happy that cad is aro/ace, there’s so little rep in media and seeing CR have an aro/ace character is kinda huge!!

As an aroallo individual, it makes me so happy that Taliesin created Caduceus. I know Taliesin isn't aspec himself, but the fact that he wanted to introduce a character who was and tried to portray them as best as he could as aspec, but also remind people that your identity - although always a sacred part of you and something that will shape your experience in this world - isn't *all* that you are, makes me and other aspecs feel seen. With this in mind though, be careful in how you portray that valid truth, because if you only carry that "your identity isn't all that you are" mindset for your queer characters, and not for your non-queer characters, that can get a bit problematic. I am *not* saying that Taliesin did this, but some non-queer people who have wrote characters as queer, and who also say things along those lines, end up accidentally ignoring the experience that character is apparently supposed to have, or even purposefully avoid the queerness of the character altogether, and in an essence queerbait their audience. But as I stated, I am not saying that Taliesin did that. My aro identity isn't something I can exactly ignore, and I don't think I'll ever be able to; this isn't to say me being aromantic is "my personality," since I don't think being consciously aware of your queerness based on your environment, and embracing the culture of your minority within a minority, means it's a "personality trait." Many people in my life, and societies at large, will always keep on telling me (and other aros) that I *should* fall in love, or that I actually am able to - it's just I haven't met the right person or haven't dated enough; that everyone is able to because that's "common sense," or that I have to be emotionally stunted or traumatized to make me "believe" that there are people who will never romantically fall in love. But, despite the fact that I can't ignore my aromanticism because of amatonormativity and allonormativity, and just plain arophobia, it's also still not everything that I am. To me, I am a poet, a book connoisseur, a fantasy lover, a queer history consumer, polyJAMorous with my long ass mixed up music playlists, and a semimental theater freak. Only then, am I aromantic.

Although I’ll admit I get second hand anxiety from this scene as someone who has been asked about my sexuality by friends before and felt forced to defend my non-interest. Being asked directly about your orientation and feeling forced to come out can be pretty uncomfortable. Glad Cad didn’t mind though, and felt comfortable stating how he feels and received support from the party!

I, myself, am so open to different orientations/identities that I literally didn't even "clock" this moment as it was just as casual an interaction/reference as would/should be part-and-parcel of normal conversation it just didn't register to me. (Of course, with this vid coming up in my feed, it then occurred to me that of course this is a nice piece of representation for Ace/Aro people and should be acknowledged; it just didn't "click" for me at the time because my mindset is defaulted -- as it "should" be for people in general -- that "x" comments relative to "y" shouldn't be "a thing" to really be thought about: we *all* should just accept the range of sexual/gender identities and orientations with as casual a "process" as this... :) )
