God's help anyone that's foolish enough to hurt Luc Brenatto. If they're lucky his aunts and uncles will only mess them up, if they're not..... They have to deal with Veth.
Veth nothing. Yeza Brenatto wouldn't leave anything left for his wife to shoot. I'm sorry, but I don't fancy pissing off a Master Alchemist that could MacGyver a bomb in five seconds. Hell, he's probably good enough that he could make an explosive that would kill you and only you, leaving everything around you intact. Also, let's not forget that Yeza now has a working relationship with Pumat. I wouldn't want Pumat Swole knocking on my door being like, "Respectfully, you hurt my friend's son. I'm afraid I'm going to have to hurt you." Or, you know, the Gentleman. Like could you imagine getting a knock at your door and it's The Gentleman? He'd be like, "Hello there. My name is The Gentleman. Perhaps you have heard of me? You see... you have injured someone close to me. I... cannot allow that to go unpunished." But yeah, don't harm the kid who's favorite Aunt is a Rage-Based Barbarian. Just don't do it.
Kid to Luc: Gimme your lunch money. *From all around* The sound of swords being drawn, fire being summoned, knuckles cracking, beetles buzzing, a serrated lollipop appearing, and a crossbow being cocked. The bully immediately goes blind.
Trent: Your life is my design, Bren. Everything you ever done, everything you ever were, and everything you ever will be, was by my machinations. If you think your life is your own, then kill me here and now. Caduceus: You're an idiot and no one loves you. Trent: 'Aight, I'ma head out.

And then you have Luc, who now has the best/worst family in the world. Worst because there is exactly 1 stable influence in that entire group. Everyone else is some degree of damaged, chaotic or literal criminal. Best, because you know if ANYTHING happened to that kid, all hell would break loose.

Cad is right. Pain just harms and breaks. Evolution happens when you overcomes the pain and make an effort to grow. And that happens out of love (be it for what you do, for someone, and so on).
@Kristopher Chavez i agree. But what Trent suggested was that pain itself makes you grow. Pain puts you in a context. Bonds are then what makes you evolve and grow from that situation. So both are needed.
@@giorgiomauceri410 not quite, and I think that was Cad's point. You can certainly teach someone with pain, but there is a breaking point some can't take it anymore (like what happened to Caleb). But you can achieve the same results _without_ the pain, and I think that was Cad's point. Astrid, Aedwolf and Bran already admired and respected Ikithon long before he forced them to murder their parents to prove their loyalty. Caleb, having learned 99% of his magic outside of Ikithon's teachings, seems to be stronger than either Astrid or Aedwolf. So in short, Trent's method of teaching was unnecessarily brutal since he could have achieved by just approaching them with interest would have been stronger than what he got (2 seemingly loyal students who seem to be actively plotting to murder him and 1 complete rebel) and wasn't even more effective than just letting people walk around and learn magic on their own. Couldn't be any more of a failure as a teacher if he purposefully tried to.

Caduceus (and therefore Taliesin) has said some very inspirational life lessons. I'm also a fan of the spiritual lessons from plants that he spoke of several episodes previously. When he speaks, the world listens.
I missed Cad so much. There is something about the voice that just feels warm and calming. It's probably why his burns have so much impact. It's like being told of by a parent when you know they're right.
I had literal SHIVERS at the end of Caduceus's speech :0 Taliesin is incredible. I don't know where he gets his inspiration, but he's SO good at playing a character it's unreal
Taliesin said in the latest Talk Machina that Cad wasn't angry at Trent but rather amused. As in Cad think that Trent was a total idiot, and he saw that no one wasn't going to call him out, so he had to do it. As a public safety precaution. Taliesin added that Cad was swallowing chuckles as he was telling Trent what he thinks. This make it even better than Cad being angry, I think.
You know that fable The Emperor's New Clothes about the scammers who sell a king some clothes that "only smart people can see" and everyone pretends it works until a kid just goes "that dude nekked af"? Cad would be that kid. He doesn't think better of himself, doesn't get angry, he is just looking around and going "we all see this dude is an idiot, right? Is nobody gonna say anything? Somebody should say something"
"I wish for you in the future to find someone who will mourn you when you are gone" is without a doubt the most polite and kind takedown of an entire human person I have ever heard
00:02:03 "And you would know that but you have none around you." *Fjord's creeping smile* I know it's Travis that smirked but I Imagine it's Fjord while Cad delivers that gut-wrenching blow and it's SOOOOOOOOO satisfying watching the student admire his master at work. Major kudos to Taliesin for his 100% kino cleric.
Veth and nott give COMPLETELY different vibes. Nott definitely was chaotic evil but its moments like this where veth asks for a cute lolita dress, or when she bought overalls for her family or when she was confused about how jester sounded mean in which she just sounded like the mom she truly is and i love it
Really Veth is just a less extreme version of Nott, which Sam said before her transformation that was the difference, I don't think Nott was ever Chaotic Evil, just every Chaotic and didn't think of consequences (explosive arrow, the trap that killed her, starting a war back up) I can still very much see Veth and Nott as the same person, they still act the same in attitude and personality except Veth is just calmer and more chill
Veth just feels like a healthier Nott. Not pressured about homelesness, the possible faith of her husband and son, back in a body she's not disgusted by, and reunited with her family. Nott's..."Nottness" was quite likely more due to her emotional inestability than anything regarding Goblin biology. You can see that considering how she acted alongside Yeza or Luc even before the change.
I hadn’t thought about it before, but I suspect that the experience of becoming Nott had shattered what Veth used to be, and now there are like two different personas in a halfling shaped body
I snapped so much when caduceus said this like omfg. My parents always look at me weird when I snap, its better thsan clapping and not being able to hear what hes saying lol. But Cad was super ballsy to say that
THATS THE BEST PART! Veth keeps coming home with these EXCEPTIONALLY dangerous gifts like crossbows and fireworks for a 4 year old. Would not be surprised in the least if luke ends up hurting himself or others one of these days
I always love the moments with the M9s non-adventurer companions hear of their exploits in casual conversation. Like, nonchalantly dropping that you killed a false god and looted thousands of gold last weekend.
C1 SPOILERS The only people who can properly correlate to and communicate with adventuring parties are other adventuring parties. Poor Yezza had no way of dealing with that, but if it was Percy and Vex they'd be like "oh false gods, true, those are harsh... But just wait until you need to kill your first _real_ god, now _that_ is a bitch!"
Holy Crap! I didn't even think of that! Now I CAN'T unsee it! >.< Now I want them cleaning Veth's apartment and washing her dishes all while singing 'Blunt The Knives.' "That's what Yeza Brenatto hates!"
I wouldn't be surprised if campaign 3 is set 14(or more) years in the future, and Luke is one of the party members, trying to uncover the truth of his mother's and her friends' adventures across Wildmount. Might be interesting if Vesper had a reason to pop in as a PC too.
This was a good collection from a fantastic episode full of great dialogue. Some honorable mentions for me were Travis asking if they have any coats and Marisha's suspicious eye squints at the owl. 😆
The whole part with the m9 barging in on the Brenattos home just goes to show just how much of a family they are at this point (reminds me a little of extended family when we all meet at my grandparents' but like, way friendlier/cooler) it's why it weirds me out when any of them talk of an 'after' because I couldn't not imagine them being in each others lives!
As much as I love this scene for its burn value, there’s also a very important life lesson behind this exchange, one I’ve learned as a teacher: As you go through life you’ll meet people with whom you’re at odds, who anger you, and who disappoint you. If you want to criticize them, which is a perfectly healthy way to deal with stress caused by that person towards you, the most effective and beneficial way to do so is this. 1, compliment the person on their positive qualities, 2, voice your criticism, and 3, offer a path for growth and change. And always, ALWAYS use kind language.
"There was a gold one, but it got stuck in this woman's hand, it was incredible." Sounds like she's going to have to figure out how to rewrite her own John Hancock.
Poor Yeza. On the one hand he's got his wonderful wife back, and she's somehow even more wonderful, and he loves her... He just didn't bank on her having five new amazing, fantastic (fuckwit) friends who think it's appropriate to gift his son explosives, and giant fey canines who will blink in an out of existence within seconds and yet somehow have managed to take a dump in his slippers in the mean time, omg. The seven foot bovine-looking friend would be okay, if he didn't seem to take such enjoyment in his role as therapist-enabler.
I love Talisen and what Cad said to Trent here was perfect for the character. From a meta perspective though, he and Trent are two sides of the same coin. They look at each other and think the other is wrong, when in truth, both are correct. Pain can be the driving force that pushes people beyond what they thought possible. It can also shut them down, stifle their creativity and bury them in despair. Likewise, love can build people up from a broken place. Love can teach people they have worth, and in turn lead them to recognize the worth of others. Love can also lead to coddling. Someone unchallenged can become inept, and unable to carry themselves through the burdens of life. Love can lead one to turn a blind eye to abusive and destructive behavior. The truth is, we need pain, and we need love, to be our best selves.
I didn't even see it like an insult or a burn. Cad isn't lying that it was a gift, and him mentioning Trent's status is part of it. Trent is so powerful both magically and politically that the only people he has in his life are various enemies that want him dead or deposed, and allies who are either too indoctrinated or too scared to be anything other than Yes men. Cad is the only one at that table or in his life who is willing to give him bare honesty. That's why he said it was a gift and that's why he said such harsh words to him and ended it with "respectfully".
Man, with my country's shitty internet speed I always have to watch the episodes in 144p . I appreciate these videos so much cuz I get to see their expressions waaaaaay better despite being on the same resolution. I love these edits.

Dnd groups absolutely refusing to turn down their weirdness and chaotic tendencies when meeting party members' family are such great moments. It's very funny to see the party member react to the minor-to-major breaches of social etiquette, from being like 'oh I can't take these people anywhere,,,' to trying to ignore it or contentedly being an equally chaotic enabler.

he said something similar during his one-on-one talks episode!
Which is pretty cute to be honest, considering that Yeza's personality is supposed to be as loving and caring as possible.
I want nothing more than for the sequence of the M9 charging into Veth's house to be animated. Fjord kicking open the door, Beau causing chaos, Yasha picking up Luc, and Caduceus awkwardly crouching in a halfling apartment would be amazing to see.

It makes Cad seem all the more powerful if all he could feel for him was basically "lol, what an edgelord."
Oh damn
You know that fable The Emperor's New Clothes about the scammers who sell a king some clothes that "only smart people can see" and everyone pretends it works until a kid just goes "that dude nekked af"? I love the rest of the party at that moment oh no were horrible influences. its campaign one's interaction with Velora dialed up to 11.

Nott did the same, she also cast disguise self to look like a little girl and just relax

As much as I love this scene for its burn value, there’s also a very important life lesson behind this exchange, one I’ve learned as a teacher:
As you go through life you’ll meet people with whom you’re at odds, who anger you, and who disappoint you.

Welcome to their TedTalk
I didn't even see it like an insult or a burn. Cad isn't lying that it was a gift, and him mentioning Trent's status is part of it. Trent is so powerful both magically and politically that the only people he has in his life are various enemies that want him dead or deposed, and allies who are either too indoctrinated or too scared to be anything other than Yes men. Cad is the only one at that table or in his life who is willing to give him bare honesty. That's why he said it was a gift and that's why he said such harsh words to him and ended it with "respectfully".
It also feels like Cad is saying "I will not mourn you, and I'm a gravekeeper".
Caduceus words were so true he broke trent.
