Thank you, I was going to ask about this. That video just saved me $300, since I'll stick with the added hassles of using a shotgun mic instead of the simpler setup with the Rode or DJI mics from this video.
Dude what an absolutely INVALUABLE video. To the point, and exactly what I needed. I’m in the market for a new sound setup and you literally covered everything I needed to know. DJI for the win!
I was warned off the Sennheiser when I started out in video, and got a similarly-speced Rode system which was great - until the DJI came out. It's so easy, and sounds great.
I can't relate in terms of the Rode. The Rode Go 2 has been super unreliable for me. 2:58 it looks like you've also had problems with the swollen batteries pushing off the covers on the transmitters. Looking to get the DJI Mic next.
That Sennheiser set has served me well and I similarly wouldn't get rid of it, but I'm so over the running of the wired mic through my clothes, so the Rode system really appealed to me. But then I saw how tiny the DJI mics were.....
ive not been able to get rid of that horrible buzzing noise when I plug a lav mic into the rode wireless go II, so I'm off Rode mics for ever Will try the DJI
Late to the party :D Just a quick question if you'd be so obliged: The Røde Me, is it possible to connect to a video camera with what comes in the package?
@@FStoppers I will say I got a lot less interference issues with the Senns after I added an short extension on the receiver unit's cable and let it dangle away from the camera. Close proximity to the camera was causing me many an issue.
@@TheFPSChannel interesting. I always suspected it had to do with the antenna orientation. I've read you want the antenna to be pointed up and not off to the side and def not forward like they do when you mount them on the hotshoe with the Sennheisser hotshoe adapter mount (face palm). I wish they made a different adapter to let them mount vertically or even an L bracket that bends the antenna upward. -P
having external batteries you can swap out at any point is still huge. I wish these systems would incorporate a replaceable battery. sure, they are not going to be as small, but I always get anxious around internal battery life.
If recording with the DJI system how is it for synching with video, i.e does it have a FPS setup? PS Scanning and choosing a channel on the Sennheiser takes all of five minutes to set up and record but then you need a good recorder like the zoom f6.... We have been using them for three years with absolutely no problem
I wonder if the Sennheiser kit that you got might be defective or something? I've been speaking at hundreds of conferences in the last 10 years, and the vast majority of the time (I'd say 90-99% of the time), the A/V team equips me with a Sennheiser kit - and I don't remember ever having any issues. (I can't tell for sure if your model is similar to the ones I've been using, though!) And that's at tech conferences - where the room is full of hundreds of people with phones and laptops and making heavy use of the WiFi (i.e. not the cleanest environment as far as radio is concerned). Meanwhile, I'm a huge fan of the RØDE and DJI systems myself. I use them for my home office as well as to record and deliver live online courses, and like you described, I never had any issues with them in that environment. In fact, the charging system of the DJI kit is so convenient, that I even use it for video calls (I just take 5 seconds to grab and clip one of the mics at the beginning of the call). However, I've experienced issues with them in "busy" wireless environments: in an office building in Paris with dozens of wireless networks in range, sounds came out garbled (with the same kit that worked perfectly in my office). I wonder what other folks experiences have been?
I also use similar (albeit more premium) senheiser packs for live theatre and they are generally pretty solid - I honestly think this could be user error or maybe a defective unit
The Sennheiser G3s and G4s are pretty solid for most uses in the broadcast documentary market in the UK, but like all wireless systems, they can never be as reliable as internal recording or wired systems, at least where you can run a cable.
I find myself hard to recommend 2.4 systems besides convenience and price with how useful uhf is like sennheiser. I do sound professionally and its the bare minimum standard in a film set. Adjusting the squelch, keeping antenna straight, coordinating frequencies with multiple units, being able mod the antenna to use SMA antennas to increase range or even bowties/fins. There’s plenty of ways of why its reliable. A lot of sound mixers would recommend trying to go for lectrosonics or wisycom but that’s usually out of plenty of people’s price range for a quality sound product.
I completely agree - having worked in the live theatre industry these sennheiser packs are the standard, it takes more work to set them up and mix them but when you do they are almost bulletproof and much more reliable than the (admittedly more convenient) 2.4 prosumer kits
@@DenisUspeshny then replace the microphones. Me-2 microphones are alright but the mke-2 are great. Sanken, dpa, shure are some lavs people replace the sennheiser microphones with but thats generally more than what people want to pay for.
Do you know if the Dji receiver can connect to a speaker like a Bose S1 Pro? I need to connect the receiver to the speaker and a lavalier to the transmitter. The lavalier will be attached to an acoustic instrument. I’m a musician and need that. Does it work that way?
Can someone explain the best way to connect two lav mics (Wireless GO) and to one camera? For example, a bride & groom connected to one camera. I have a separate audio ZOOM recorder but wondering if I can hookup a bride & groom with two lavs, two Rode GO, and Sony camera. Is a splitter recommended or is there a interface that works better?
Very helpful. Thank you. Would any of these systems be compatible with the Deity D4 mini? There is a second input on the Deity allowing a second mic. I would love to run a wireless transmitter as well as the deity but not sure it would work.
What do you think of Comica Vimo C3? Have you tested it? How does it compare to the DJI? Because some reviewers say it is better, judging from the price.
Other users and my self are having an audio drift issue with the DJI Mics every 30 secs or so the internal recording skips so over the course of a long video the audio drifts and will have almost a 15 sec gap by the end of an hour. This is only for the internal recording (audio transmitted to the camera/rx doesn’t have this issue but that also defeats the point for us to have a good bit rate audio. This is a random hard ware issue and it’s hit or miss we’ve had it with call 4 out of 4 units so far. Other than this issue I love everything about these mics but this is also a major issue
@@FStoppers would love for you to test this so far DJI doesn’t have a solution or firmware patch as this has been wide spread for almost a year so it maybe a hardware issue.

@Fstoppers yeah, we shoot in studio sometimes on location but the good thing about SENNHEISER is you can choose the different operating frequencies of the system
@@brianpark2564 Yes, we have 2 sets of these G3s and I think a set or two of the previous ones (G2 was it?). Anyways, we constantly scan the channels for the best frequency to use and it works most of the time but sometimes we get static still. Another thing that drives me crazy is the locking mic connection seems good in theory but it also introduces a ton of static. We can often bump or twist the metal locking collar and get tons of noise. If the transmitter is in a pocket or jacket it often gets bumped and causes this crackling sound. Again, it's over the course of 3-4 sets and 3-4 mics connected to them. That said, Lee didn't mention it (maybe he hasn't experienced it) but I've had the mics pull out of the Rode Go transmitters and lose audio altogether. I wish they had a way to lock the mic in the 3.5 slot better but this has happened to me a few times now. -P
Probably You havent used Rode Wireless II enough - we have many sets of them in TV and its a constant pain - clicking sounds, static from lavaliers, internal recordings splitted in many files (usually length 30 min34sec, but sometimes easily can be up to 2h while other mic with same settings can record whatever length in one file), other software problems (including corrupted recordings) - its just things that happen EVERY SINGLE TIME you use them. Very unreliable. And Yes, battery life after a year of use gets just bad. Rode probably make good microphones, but terrible electronics.
Nice video, I keep seeing videos that point out the DJI mics have an issue with syncing correctly with people lips and words spoken. Have you seen this issue?
I recently got the Rodes and not the DJIs as I heard multiple reports of RF interference when using external lav mics on the DJI transmitters. No problems with the Rodes so far in that regard. Also, Rode is just releasing a own charging case for the wireless go system - it’ll set you back another 70 bucks or so, though. I would guess that there will be bundles to directly compete with DJI.
Literally everybody - in a video for "WIRELESS MIC SYSTEM" - is asking what mic you are NOT featuring.. and prolly isn't a wireless!! The irony is so deep
Thanks for this information! We've been thinking about getting the DJI mic but weren't sure if Rode's newest addition was going to be better. This has really helped with deciding what to buy.
I guess it does come down to priorities. The comparison you included between DJI and Rode ME showed the ME provided better quality audio, according to your observation (it sounded that way to me as well). That is significant.
Sennheiser came out with the EW-DP system which has a latency of 1.9ms vs 20 plus ms of the DJI mic. Not sure if it's for you but I'm not sure I'll trust 2.4 ghz system for my shoot. Sadly I think the EW-DP range is 25m only.
