A limestone cave first explored in the early 1800s, full of unexpected twists and turns, water filled passageways and tight squeezes. One that is enjoyed by both beginner and expert cavers alike. I went on a high school trip here and it started to rain unexpectedly. Our scheduled route out was flooded and we had to go a more advanced route. We were left waiting alone for about half an hour while our guide checked ahead to see if the route was flooded. When he came back he said we had to go very fast. When we reached what I believe to be that Sump section, it was flooded and we had to go underwater one by one with our eyes closed due to the acidity of the water and come out the other end. I remember getting stuck on something underwater and panicked to rip my clothes free. By the time I got to the other side I couldn't move being so cold I just floated up, face down in the water unable to pick myself up or move at all. I remember thinking how helpless I was and that there'd nothing to do but wait to drown. Then the guide picked me up and ushered me onward. I barely was able to stand and almost fell face first back down into the water but managed to catch my balance. Through sheer adrenaline I kept moving quickly and we got to a place where we had to move sideways on our hands and knees across a sloped surface. Not unlike a rooftop. It was slippery and we were all wet. The guide told us to be very careful because if we slipped there was about a 100 ft drop between stalagmites at the bottom of the slope so if we slipped we'd slide to the bottom and most likely dead drop 100 feet. I didn't even have time to process that but I just focused on keeping my grip and eventually and thankfully we all made it across and were able to finish navigating the route to the exit.
I'll always have fond traumatic memories of this cave.

Also you guys still missed some trails! I did not see the chest compressor and beyond. Instead of going down the corkscrew, you stay up and go along the top to the right

Plenty of people say there are still plenty of uncharted areas and offshoots that may stretch for 1000s of more feet if not miles. Case of Robert Svensson proves how dangerous it really is.
1st caving trip in my life I had a “skinny” guy -I am not so skinny take me through the corkscrew, I went in head first and proceeded to get stuck upside down in about the same spot as you see his boots coming out of the corkscrew in the video, here I set with 200lbs of me pressing down on my bent neck and helmet and it’s the one time in my life I was actually afraid and I panicked - I somehow unhooked my helmet which allowed me to breathe a little and somehow got my arm in front of me and that allowed me to move my shoulders sideways and out I shot from the bottom of the corkscrew.
That was 25 years ago and it still gives me chills thinking about it.

Did you see lost rock hammer room? or the thook ent? Or the "other" half of the cave? My first trip there I spent 8 hours in there and came out at night. It felt like I came into a huge new room but it was the outside world! Awesome cave, wish I was able to return.

Yes about a 3 minute walk
