That Shure MV7 has such a beautiful warm sound to vocal and instruments and that's just through the USB interface not through the XLR. I've done both and I'm thoroughly impressed with the microphone and price.

I just found a Rode NT-USB on the Facebook marketplace lightly used. He wanted $80 and I talked him down to $65. I'm just getting interested/started with VO. So, I think it's a good place to start.
It would have been nice, if the part with the motorcycle was recorded with both mics at the same time. What I have found is, that the Shure MV7 picks up far less room reverb. That's a big plus for me, and I'm seriously considering swapping my Rode NT USB for the MV7.
Thanks for the comparison. One thing that I think you missed mentioning is that the Sure MV7 has a USB micro connector on the microphone and not USB-C. That’s a showstopper for me. Trying to get my kit down to less cables. It’s USB-C all the way for me from now on.
Shure on the Near setting definitely sounded better overall. The Far setting has a noticeable decrease in quality but still not bad. If it is affordable, it’s definitely a great choice for many people.

I wonder how the USB+ would compare to it since now it supports 24-bit depth and the old Rode only had up to 16 Bit. I've heard the difference and it's noticeable between the USB and USB+ for sure but against a MV7, I wonder.
a better comparison would be to talk close to the rode as you were with the shure, or have both on a boom. The rode would have been overall a closer comparison. the shure does sound great though
I think it does not make sense to compare one dynamic microphone with one condenser microphone. These are two different types of microfons build for different use cases and scenarios.
Why was the shure mic tested super close and mic pointed to your mouth and guitar when the rode was tested way further out and pointed at the ceiling to exaggerates the echo In the room. Didn’t seem like a fair comparison to me.
I like the sound of condenser microphones way more than that of dynamic ones, so the Rode is my clear winner of this comparison (especially after hearing the guitar section). Interesting, how different the perception can be.
Nice review. I bought the MV7 but haven't liked it, even with the gain set to the max it's still very quiet. Also, I'm using it via usb and the sound quality is quite bad, at least with my laptop, not worth 250 bucks IMO.
Thank you, I have the same experience. I have the Rode NT USB and bought the MV7 as an upgrade to see how it sounds. It is very, very quiet, and even with 100 mic volume it sounds a lot quieter than on 75 volume with my NT USB. Also I dont like the quality any better than my NT USB to be honest. Perhaps this MIC requires XRL to be any good, but I am going to send it back and keep my Rode NT USB for a while.

@@vgman94 As I recently switched from some generic 20$ arm to the PSA1 and now the Blue Compass: Up until a few days ago, I used the Auna Mic 900b (switched to the MV7) which weighs about 350g. The PSA1 did not have any problems with the mics little weight, I was worried about that before my purchase but was pleasantly surprised. Although I replaced the PSA1 with the Blue Compass just because it fits my needs better, I highly recommend the PSA1 too.
@@vgman94 Well, the difference isnt as big as i made i seem haha. The basic difference is apparent when looking at either arm - they are just built diffenrently. Especially two things mattered to me: 1. The look. I just prefer and want the sleeker design of the Blue for my setup. It kinda looks like one big, even arm on a round base - so more like my monitor arms than a mic arm. The PSA1 just looks more like a traditional mic arm obviously, although there are no springs visible. Also, the Compass has an integrated cable channel which the Rode doesnt and as I dont have a single visible cable in my setup, I also wanted this to be true for the mic arm. 2. The base. Im speaking about the very base thats mounted to the table and in which the arm in either cases is inserted. Again, the Compass wins the design for me as its an even cylinder and not a "volcano-looking" base. Also, the base of the Blue is taller, which doesnt matter all the time but sometimes. If i have something laying besides, it usually doesnt matter as the first joint of the arm is far enough above the object laying besides it so it doesnt interfere with the arms movement. As you can see, it really does fit MY personal needs just that tiny bit better. Besides all of that I think both arms have similar reach, tho the PSA1 can lift quite a bit heavier mics.
Do you have to talk into the tip of the MV7 or can you talk through the side? (It seems like the Rodes windscreen you can flip it horizontally and talk through the side) can you do that with the MV7? This will be my first mic
u hv to speak into mv7 by 1/2 feet distance. beyond that u need to speak loud. in case u typing on keyboard n kept the mic to left or right. then rode is the way to go. if you have a boom arm n u can keep mic in front of u then get shure for a more warmer voice. btw u can get same sound quality from rode n shure but for rode u hv to edit the audio n remove noise
nice mic, but the white lettering that says "shure" ruins it for me. They basically get free promotion on every video/stream/podcast. I would slap my content creator sticker right over that.

I realized that too, Rode NT needs a more treated environment, as it picks up a lot of echo.
Why did you put the Rode so far? You can also talk closer into that mic to try to eliminate background sound
It will only work so much… almost negligible in terms of what sound it cuts out. The clarity would be there, but other issues would remain noticeable.

The Rode was so much farther away (and not on a boom) during the test. Not really a direct comparison.
Is the micro usb connector (or your cable) at an angle? It doesn't seem to come straight out of the back of the mic.

i got a rode Nt usb mic. u need to add filter to it to remove noise like fan/ Cpu fan/ Ac fan.
