Finally someone noticed the popping sounds from the S, T, and P. And suggested a fix afterwards. I saw a lot of reviews and no one seemed to care about that. Thank you.
As a Mv7 owner. You are essentially my lord and savior now. Your graceful solution to the Mv7 is ironic, as I’m surprised that they never thought to extend the filter for such a better plosives rejection
Also, subscribed! Such a good overview of the product. I already bought it, but no one did such a good overview as you have done here. Especially as I know the product a lot more having owned it for a few months, I really feel you did a very thorough review and walk through.
@@MarztechRacing in XLR mode those features don’t work as they are used through USB functionality. So you would want a good audio interface. I am using an SSL 2+ but there are a lot of solid ones out there, like Elgatos new one that comes with it’s own processing software. My current setup now is: Electrovoice RE20 to dbx 286s to SSL 2+ to PC. I was using quite a few plugins to tweak sound and found it introduced lag and delay/sync issues from my audio. So the dbx 286s is a hardware version of handling adjusting compression, bass/clarity, DeEssing, etc. before it gets to my audio interface.
Exactly the test review I was looking for! No one else did the MV7 + software tweaks vs. the SM7B comparison. And the pop filter was where I was leaning towards based on the plosives! Huge thanks, Sir!
No amount of software makes up for it beign a worse mic, any ewnhancement you can do to the mv7 can also be done to the sm7b too completely maintaining the quality gap that is intentionally there for a reason.
still after 3 years - this video was sooo helpful thank you. And I thought I'm the only one with the plosive issue haha. THANKS, just ordered the RK345
EXCELLENT DEMONSTRATION. I had the misfortune of watching another (supposed) demonstration that turned out to be all about the demonstrator and hardly anything about the mike. Meanwhile, you have confirmed my main thesis regarding the MV7: If you add the RK345B and manually set the audio characteristics using the included software, one can create a nearly identical output to the SM7B. Which only makes logical sense, as what would be the point of creating software if it didn't encompass the audio spectrum which is characteristic of Shure microphones? But to hear it and see the settings in action was truly satisfying. Thanks to you, my hesitancy towards purchasing the MV7 has been resolved. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH. 👍👍👍
Thank you for making this video! Just purchased the MV7 Bundle on the scan website. Found you very funny and informative. I been stuck between the Shure SM7B and MV7 for a while. I done a tone of research, but this video gave me the selling point to go with MV7, which was the resolving of the plosive issue I notice the MV7 had. The SM7B is the better sounding microphone. That said it is close, but for my purposes I intend it for my side hobbies of streaming, videos, discord and singing it does the job well enough for all them things. I think if any of them where to then kick off and I had the money I probably then just look for a godly microphone. The SM7B is legendary and has been around a while, whilst the MV7 is current and had modern considerations, that fit my purposes. You can also get a full mic setup with the stand etc for the price of the SM7B alone, but if I wanted to set up my SM7B I have to spend at least another £200+ on top of buying the mic to get it operating to its fullest potential. Hopefully, this helps people with their decisions. Thanks for making this video to help make up my mind!
Thanks Mate! I was really sitting at the fence. Don't have the money to buy sm7b but was not sure about mv7. Now I am just gonna take it for voice over.
Thank you so much for the foam tip! My MV7 is on the way, and I just ordered that extra foam to test this out. Very excited to be upgrading the sound quality for my show!!
This is the best review of MV7 from all i saw at the moment. Or Second - USB: Shure MV7 + Shure RK345 (just like You suggested - i was very impressed by your review) - both cost roughly same money, both mimic SM7b + hi-end inrerface, each one have it's own pros and cons. I was ready to buy first one but at that day MV7 was anounsed and after your review I'm really don't know which one i should buy, help me please - suggest some of those two which one is better on your opinion. I've seen this "hack" elsewhere but it wasn't demonstrated as clearly as you have. Thank you for taking the time and effort to show how incredible the sound is with the RK345. And of course, for labelling what the actual part number is too!
I'm not sure you reply or not but I had a question I normally use the shure mv7 with the solo Scarlet when I'm recording gamplay using my Elgato hd60s. The problem that I'm having is that my gain seems to be pretty low and I can't really put it any higher due to the fact that the hissing sound is very prevalent and very distracting is there a way where I can take away the hissing sound and reduce background noise in General. P.s I'm using the mv7 with XLR directly connected to the Scarlet solo I'm not using the USB feature.
Nice review! Most folks like it when comparing to sm7b. But no one has said, they are willing to replace their sm7b with it. What needs to be done to the mv7 to convince you to replace your $400 sm7b with the $249 mv7?
Now I will be able to talk in my newest drawing videos thanks to your awesome advice! My old usb mic was terrible. Thank you very much I get my mic on Tuesday I just ordered the pop filter will be here Monday!
All's I know is that the MV7 is gonna be a huge improvement to my Astro A40 built in mic. I have no regrets and am so happy that it has USB. The only thing I would change is that it should have USB-C instead of using USB b to type A. Great side by side review
Excellent video. I"m a total beginner to this stuff so I've got a couple of basic questions. 1. Are you plugging the SM7 into any kind of audio -processor interface (with / without uplifter?) or are you plugging it straight into a PC? 2. If you are plugging it straight into a PC does it have any kind of non-standard sound card? I ask because I've got one of these plugged into a mac mini via usb and I don't believe it gives the kind of sound you are getting...
I am going to order one because it's a USB mic. It's for gaming because I play video games 8hrs a day and speak a lot. Sometimes I do videos but that's rare and the same with streaming. But I speak a lot so that's why I wanna. Whole setup cost 350€ ( mic + mic stand) Buying this because I don't have an XLR thing. Love from Finland.
I just ordered the mv7 and now I ordered the rk345 thanks to your video. I normally use the re20, but I wanted to see how this mic will do with the setup I currently have. I use the focusrite 2i2 3rd gen with a vidpro mx-042 audio mixer(not much of a popular brand, but works great). I can't wait to get this mic in and put it to work, thanks for this great informative video!
Excellent shout on the RK345. Got the mic a few days ago direct from Shure UK (Your deals went up a little after theirs did but in hindsight should have waited for the bundle) and the plosives was my only real issue. Had been "mitigating" them by putting an old Blue Yeti filter over the top of the default one and it was like a 50/50 as to it working. Going to try your tip of moving the current one up a few for a recording later today then will likely put an order in for the RK345. Sounds and looks great, should fix all my issues with the mic.
Wow!! Great advice for the popshield. Just bought the RK345. I have a problem with my MV7 - it has just started outputting some crazy white noise when using it for video meetings. Not a problem until a couple of days ago. There is no noise at all when listening to music or videos. So it seems to be a mic-side issue (I use the 'headphone' output as my main audio out as the audio is so clean).
There is no example in existance of a mv7 sounding better than a sm7b, just no, stop trying so hard to justify your spending. The Mv7 is poop, the sm7b is high quality, theres a reason its on every podcasters table and in most singers mic collections and the reason isn't because the cheaper lower quality mv7 sounds better is it?
Bought the MV7 because you fixed the plosive problem super decently, and as i want to use it for Beatboxing (SM7B is Beatbox high lvl standart, but im super sure it can handle just as good if not better), i'll tell you how good it is once it arrives tomorrow or the day after!!! Freaking good job, i hope it can handle my bass & kicks/snares :D And of course, i bought the RK345 with it thanks to you!. AMAZING Video!!
Please explain how you think a cut down cheaply made version of a studio classic can do better than said studio classic, put the pipe down you high enough...
@@damiengreen28 who hurt you?? Im Glad i would never be cheeky against a random dude online, holy crap. I compared both and yes the mv7 is a lot more Budget friendly, Nice options per Software. Since i need to spend about 800 bucks on top of the sm7b for it to Sound minimal better im better off the mv7 Like the other 90% of people. You have no clue, stop talking until you test both as i did.
Incredible video mate, I was going to spend all of the extra money on an XLR setup that I don't necessarily need just to get the SM7B. This video has helped me in my decision to go for the MV7 instead, it has great options right out of the box with USB once you finetune it a little and if I do ever want to go the XLR route down the line, I can always invest in a good XLR setup and still keep the mic around for another while. The RK345 hack is truly incredible, I love this so much! Big thanks from me for not pulling the same other arsehole marketing bits that other UA-camrs do to get you to buy the more expensive products via their affiliate links and keeping it real instead. If I could add anything to this video it would be a comparison of how the MV7 in USB mode sounds in your studio vs another room that isn't as well prepped and sound proofed for audio recordings (like, let's face it, most of our offices usually are, mine is simply too large because it's also my bed/living room). Keep up the great work for lads like me with mediocre education on these things, I appreciate it.

The Mv7 is poop, the sm7b is high quality, theres a reason its on every podcasters table and in most singers mic collections and the reason isn't because the cheaper lower quality mv7 sounds better is it?
thank you, youre the man!
Great video my friend. 👍👍👍
Fabulously helpful. 🙏
Dont be fooled, the sm7b is not a little bit better, its in a different class. Buy cheap, buy twice.
You're brilliant man! Thank you!
