Escape Trailer 21C vs 5.0 - Our Choice
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- We decided to purchase the Escape Trailer 21C from Escape Trailer Industries back in October of 2018 and moved into it full time in March 2019. We love our Escape 21, but would we pick this same Escape Trailer if we had it to do over again in 2021? In our previous video we compared the 21C with the 21NE. In this video we return to Escape Trailer Industries in Chilliwack Canada to compare the differences between the Escape Trailer 5.0 and 21C and share which we would choose now and why.
In upcoming videos, we'll compare some of the other models; 19 vs 21NE, as well as 17 vs 19. These are strictly our opinions and we're sharing our perspective in hopes that it will help you decide if you are considering an Escape Trailer and are not sure which model is best for you!
We want to thank Escape Trailer Industries for allowing us to have a full day in the showroom.

Very good comparison! We have a 21 C. We're very happy with it! ❤😊
The best part of the video - your sense of humor!!! Enjoy visiting Chilliwack!!! We loved it!
H Mirna!! Thanks as always for watching!
We had a good poke around when we visited on Tuesday this week... I like the idea of the 5.0, but for me it fails the "sit up in bed with a cup of coffee test" as I hit my head on the ceiling.
That and you lose the capacity of the truck bed.
We slapped down a deposit on a 21C earlier today... now the countdown to July 2023 begins!
Thanks for watching and congrats on your deposit!!
Thanks for the comparison. That is some nice countertop space on the 21C. We have been in a 5.0 full time for over two years now. We still love it and have no regrets. We did have to get very creative about how we manage our space.
LOL Yes I bet you have to get creative! I'd love to see how you have managed your space in the 5.0!
You guys ROCK! Keep the videos coming! We have a 5.0 on order and will be happy with the choice we made.. Take care and thanks again!
Thanks Jack!! You rock for watching!!!! Congrats on the 5.0 order!
Another great video from you two. Always look forward to viewing them. Less than 30 days to take delivery of our 21C!
Hi Van, thanks for watching!! Congrats on the 21C!!! I'm guessing with my slow reply that you've taken delivery?
Awesome, you finally did the comparison of the 5.O vs 21C 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 we get our 5.O in January. 2022.
Hi Arnaldo, thanks for watching!! Congrats on your upcoming 5.0!!
@@AdventuresInNoMadness we are picking it up in Sumas next Friday… so excited
@@arnaldoscachetti3558 That’s awesome!!!!
Good video guys. Was going to get the 21 until we laid eyes on the 5TA. Love the reduced length and the maneuverability is amazing. FYI I have a back wedge pillow from a back store which makes the reading and working space up front very comfortable. It is like having a separate room. To be fair to the 21 you guys forgot to mention that it has a bigger bathroom. But overall I am a 5 guy.
HI Mark, thanks so much for watching and for the comment! Good to know the back wedge pillow works!
Can't wait for the 23' versions to make production. Coming soon, hope it comes with a dry bath
Thank you for the comparison between the two.
Love the lens & angles at the front, very fun. OK, for the first time EVER, I have a differing opinion than the two of you! 🤣. I completely understand your rationale & logic, and for your needs, completely makes sense. For us, as we are “sometimers” with RVs, we don’t have as much to lug, so we weren’t as concerned about losing storage in the truck.
We just downsized to the 5.0, selling our 32’ fifth wheel & I was concerned about losing the large basement. It turns out that although the 3 under storage compartments are smaller, I have found a way to get most of our infrastructure in them; it requires very efficient use, but I can get the electric, fresh water & sewer, plus the leveling chocks, x-chocks, Knox box and other items down below. Key here is for us to remember to return the items to their specific place, much like a jigsaw puzzle.
Throughout the winter we will continue to fine tune our interior usage as we use the 5.0. I truly love this “less is more” model and look forward to refining how we use it as well as customizing the interior to meet our needs.
I hope you are enjoying your travels and maybe by now, you have crossed into the US from your visit to our lovely neighbor, Canada.
Hey Jim! Sorry for the slow reply! ha ha I love that you have a differing opinion for once!! We really really love the 5.0 and if we weren't full time I think we would have gone with it. That's a nice downsize from your 32'! I'm so slow in answering comments that we're already in Texas visiting family!
Great comparison. An issue you didn't mention with putting totes or boxes of stuff in the back bed of the truck around the fifth wheel hitch is the risk of theft, whereas, with the 21C and a full on truck bed canopy, that canopy can be locked and there is a TON of storage there, all perfectly (relatively) secure. I thought about a fifth wheel too since it would shorten the overall length, but with those stairs and the loss of storage space inside the trailer and the smaller kitchen and the lack of head space over the bed, it just wasn't attractive. Also. the bathroom on a 5.0 is smaller than in a 21C. I've had no maneuverability issues with the 21C, is turns and parks on a dime. It's a no-brainer to me.
ha ha you're right...there's a few issues or items we could have commented on and didn't! 21C for the win!!
For us the 5.0 was eliminated because we both have Sea Kayaks that are 16' and 18' long. I could not see loosing the bed space on our truck either. Love the fifth wheel and its maneuverability though.
Us too, love the 5th wheel but we just bought kayaks!!
Well done guys! Thanx for your insightful comments! One question about the 21c, do you get much trailer sway when driving at US interstate speeds (65-70mph)???
I agree with you, both. It's a very hard decision. I may be faced with the same predicament in the next year or so. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. The fifth wheel has a shorter overall length and supposedly much better to tow. But, I have a rack on my truck. I would have to remove it everytime I wanted to use the trailer. The other plus of the tag, is that it does not require a truck, which means I can loan it to my kids to pull behind their SUVs.
~Stay healthy, happy, and safe.~
Thanks for watching John! Pros and cons to everything!
Good comparison, one positive aspect of the 5.0 is ease of towing & hooking up. 👍🏻
Thanks for pointing that out Jacqueline!
5:39 that 5.0’s lil bin is acceptable for me. I’d prefer a bed hitch over a conventional as often as possible. 6:05
Are they going to produce a longer 5.0 trailer in the future? That way you could have a dry bath room setup
Not that I'm aware of
Thank you so much
Thanks for watching Pam!!
Can’t wait to see the 17 vs 19 😁
Hi Brandon, hopefully you've seen the 17 vs 19 comparison video by now!
since Im not shaped like an oompa loompa at 5'17" the 5.0 is a very attractive option. one thing that does concern me is how rough a road it can take. not so much the ground clearance, but the truck clearance. no I dont mean taking it on jeep trails - but many of those forest service roads can get pretty twisted up and I am concerned about the roll in particular. Id love to hear from folks who go out in those conditions with a 5.0
Hi MIchael! These are great units for boondocking down forest service roads but with any rv you have to drive very slow and really evaluate how much you want to beat it up. We've hit some pretty big potholes and had some crazy tope's (speedbumps) in Mexico and our trailer did pretty great. We did bend an axle on the way up to Alaska though. No trailer or 5th wheel can take rough roads if you're going too fast. Hope that helps at least a little bit
@@AdventuresInNoMadness Thank you! it sure does.
I’ve been looking at these for a couple weeks now. The wait time for a new one is December 2023 and they seem rare on the used market. 😭
They're both pretty awesome but the wait times are really far out
A fifth wheel trailer in easier to back, and the turning radius is less than a bumper hitch trailer. This is because the distance from the pivot point to the rear trailer wheels is shorter. I went back and listened to your interview with Karl and he said if you ordered a 5.0 today it would be Nov. 2023 (2 YEARS) before you would get it! That's a bummer.
Hi Lyle, thanks so much for watching and for the comment! There's so much to love about the 5.0 but yes the wait time is a killer!
What about comparing the tow-ability between the two trailers?
Hi Sal, thanks for watching and for the question! That would definitely be a whole separate video.
If any one planning to buy one 21C, When I was going to order they state will have a wait time of July 2023 is the earliest completion date for E17A, E17B, E19, E21NE, & E21C
February 2024 is the earliest completion date for E5.0. from the date I posted this
Yes a long wait
