Amazing, we´re same age! I got MarioKart from some young friends last xmas, I have a lot of practising to do - and I look fwd to impress them! I wasn´t into gaming, really, but this is so so so fun! :) Cheers!
This is so awesome for people who are just starting out in the game. Although I already know everything in this tutorial this video was still entertaining. Great work mate
One thing I really don’t like about playing Mariokart 8 online, is that once you reach a certain amount of points, EVERYONE in the lobby is playing Waluigi in the wiggler cart with roller wheels, some exceptions being that sometimes they’re Waluigi in the biddybuddy or Mr. Scooty. It gets annoying seeing that all the time when I’m just trying to have a good racing session. Everyone goes with the “meta” option and seeing tryhards all the time online is just really strange. A few times I was the only one who wasn’t playing Waluigi, and those races can get really annoying, really fast.
Why is other's enjoyment ruining your own personal experience? If that's what they have fun playing as I don't understand why you feel the need to be so pissed off by it, no one's stopping you from playing whatever character and build u wanna play
@@Junya01 I never said I was pissed off, I just wanna see some variety every now and then. I don't really care if people feel like they need the "meta" karts to get better at the game, I just want to see other characters for once that's all. Like, it's a game with at *least* 20 different characters to choose from, and it just feels weird seeing everyone play the same thing lol
@@jayleaf23 you. You're the variety, why don't you embrace it. And you specifically said you're annoyed by people choosing meta builds, so you care at least a little bit. Meta builds are meta cuz they feel the best to play, gameplay dictates what people choose to drive. The game may have variety but that doesn't mean everyone has to be different for variety's sake, and that shouldn't annoy you. If u wanna see variety, be the one to switch characters and karts
The single greatest tip that has helped me is using the items defensively. Before, I was always throwing them out behind me in hopes of tripping up another player lol. I didn't realize how useful they are for keeping yourself in the lead.
bingo..i was just telling him this..i just started playing last nite..once i found the right kart/stats i was flying..but they kept attacking me right before the finish line..yea i was throwing attacks out kinda randomly..just to immediately attack the driver ahead of me & get clear for a new one..but the patient holding of the banana slip i'll try..i like how the game warns you of incoming attacks too like a jet fighter..ive been led to racing games because ive been too calm/patient w my endeavors & need to speed everything up..the games are practice..the parallels & physics are the same
This is a very well put together video, I’m not a beginner but it was still fun to watch , one thing I want to mention though is that In 200cc if someone throws a red shell at you while you have a bomb is behind you, you can avoid the blast radius by a literal centimeter if you happen to have a purple drift boost at that exact moment.
holding coins in first place is good incase boo steals your item and leaves you defenceless so having the coin as your first item will prevent that. it keeps me in first more often and allows me to make some distance between the rest of the players in the game.
This video is great! My friends and I spent years playing Mario kart Wii - always on automatic and never having to drift. When I started Mario kart 8 I felt really frustrated at the controls. This video is really helpful 😃
I recently did the time trial staff ghosts too unlock the golden wheels and I was quite surprised when I noticed later on I was doing significantly better in online and grand prix mode. It makes sense in hindsight but when a few days ago you were struggling to get 5th or 6th place and you glance at the map and realise not only are you in 1st place but there's actually a very large gap between you and 2nd place it's a pretty cool feeling.
I started playing this game recently. Great game. I just have a couple nitpicks. The one that bothers me is N64 Rainbow Road. It feels too short with one lap and I prefer the old space theme instead of the change to city lights. On the other hand, I really enjoy how they made 200 cc very playable in comparison to other mario kart games.
Here's a beginner question: When I'm gliding, is it faster to extend the glide as far as practical or to try to get down on the road as soon as I'm over track? Is gliding faster or slower than driving?
My friend just got me into the game yesturday, got completely rekt so I watched him play a little and turns out he's a 99999 player xd. Gonna try really hard to learn a new map that he has little knowledge on and this guide really helps alot. Hopefully I can beat him in at least one map!
I mainly play Yoshi/P-Wing/Slick/Super Glider, and this advice was all super helpful as I’m trying to get better at the game and raise my score! Edit (1 month later): I’ve changed my main vehicle to Streetle/Roller/Cloud Glider, and since writing this comment, I’ve gone from about 4.5k VR to 6.5k VR. On the offchance you’re reading this, thank you!
HA! Thank for this info I can't believe the kids and I did not see the tutorial on the front page. This will help level up the family and make game nights even more competitive. I've watched a few of your videos and you make great content. Keep it up!
Tight lines is big. I usually play with my family on 100cc, and one day I just wasn't feeling like putting in the effort to drift or trick. Instead, I just went for clean, tight lines. Despite never drifting or tricking, I was still sometimes coming in first just by taking tighter lines.
I have set myself yesterday to beat all the 150cc staff ghosts without any mushrooms. It was far easier than I thought. I've only had to restart in two races because I fell off the track.
And NOW I have done it on 200cc! Cheep Cheep Beach, Ribbon Road and Super Bell Subway were very painful to do, but I managed to persevere and fully master the game. Bayesic. Your training helped me do all this. Thank you.
Good stuff! As a semi-pro MK8D player, I've got one main piece of advice. Memorize the layout of each and every track as fast as you can! Including all the shortcuts, item box locations, places you can trick off of, hazards, etc. This will help you focus more on item management and driving technique since you won't be thinking about where you have to go all the time. A less significant, but still important piece of advice is, you don't have to do a trick off of everything all the time! While 99% of the time you should, there are situations (especially on 200cc) where you don't want to trick so you can maintain control or ride the better line. Good luck out there!
I just recently got into Mario Kart and one thing I would always tell my wife when she would play or already knew to do was stay close to the inside of the track from running track in high school, that’s why the lanes have different starting points
8:50 coins in your primary slot also serve as a defensive barrier against boos stealing your actual defensive item (and it's why I assumed people do this) In some cases it's better to use the coin and just have the item trailing, as you won't be able to react in time if a red shell is thrown at you from close by otherwise.
I've been playing it on and off for maybe a month and didn't know coins make you go faster. I was about to just quit playing because I suck too bad (At 200cc and online.) Thank you Mr. Man.
Wow, you did a great job on showcasing! I'm a veteran of Mario Kart, and when I started watching Mankalor, I quickly knew how to play more professionally. Another tip to get better is, when you're drifting, try to stay as close to the edge as possible, but not too close; otherwise, you might mess up your drift and waste time.
This was a really great video! Another video idea that might be useful is tips for avoiding the middle of the pack, and what to do if you do end up stuck in the purgatory that is the middle of the pack.
This is such an amazing video, I wish I had this 4 years ago lol Now I’m just looking for an advanced guide video. I’m currently sitting 32K VR, but always looking to improve
Man, you made me feel like 150cc was actually possible for me as someone who was TERRIFIED of it because I was bad at MarioKart (read: I always played really casually). With these tips alone I felt confident enough to start some Grand Prix races. Three stars on Mushroom Cup and I pulled WAY ahead on Mario Circuit in the Flower Cup. I know to a lot of people that's not a big deal, but it makes me really hapoy. It also makes me really happy that my favorite character (Daisy) is good for beginner builds, heheh.
I just got the game like 2 days ago and I didn't know the super horn could stop projectiles until I found out when randomly trying it when I was about to be hit by a blue shell😁
They give you a little boost. They are faster in a few cases but generally they’re too far out of the way to be useful. Bone dry dunes is one example where you actually wanna be hitting them if I remember correctly
Not a beginner, but absolutely great video. Every point is well explained and doesn't overstay its welcome, and has great tips without being too babying or obvious. Keep it up! If you don't mind video ideas, maybe a video that explains the mechanics behind each stat? I think that could make for a super interesting deep-dive.
You’d be surprised at how different they are. I went back and tried to play Mario kart on the switch emulator and it took me so long to figure it out haha
@@Bayesic for sure it's way more technical and more attention to detail but playing offense and defense still has a familiar feel. It's a lot of data to consume all at once but I think once I get back into it it'll still be just as fun.
Theoretically if you played perfectly tilt controls could be as good as jon tilt controls, I’d say in general it’s really hard to be as precise with tilt controls as you can be with the joystick Other than that tho I don’t think the builds differ between the two
@@JCetty Not particularly haha. Really the only tires that are good are Rollers/Blue Rollers/Leaf/Button. Everything else is pretty situational. I'd also swap out standard bike for a higher speed kart cause dry bones is pretty slow
Great video and much thanks!! I’ve tried looking on UA-cam but is there any practice tips you’d recommend? Like if I’m trying to get good as fast as possible maybe a few track/NISC recommendations I should grind out ? Almost have all the dev ghosts beat and I completed the game all the way through 200cc which wasn’t too challenging. Thanks again !
I'd suggest electrodrome, Mario Circuit 3 (if you have the booster course pass), and Neo Bowser City just because those tracks all require you to master skills that are useful on basically every course in the game
@@Bayesic POGU. Excellent content and I bet you’ll get a big spike in viewership with the 2023 tracks coming out later this year! I played tons of snes and n64 kart as a kid but then got old and had kids hahaha great to see the game is better then ever with a pretty large community!
I am really looking forward to the item management video!!! Regarding Time Trials: I can only confirm that it brings the most to invest a lot of time in it! Best if you have friends, with whom then the times are comparable. During the covid lockdown, we literally beat each other daily in the shared apartment! About the item management video: I would be happy about individual strategies depending on the placement! As always: The videos of you are the best!
I played so much Wii and double dash. In hindsight I wish I knew about speedrunning think I could’ve been pretty good with all that time in high school. This game feels so different though
5:21 in the other video you mentioned, you said that only angles from 9-10 and 2-3 gives you a faster miniturbo. So is it true that 8-9 ans 3-4 angle also helps?
@@Bayesic no worries! I actually had one more question about one of your advanced techniques. You say delayed drifting give you ur mt slightly faster than a normal drift. So i wanted to know if im correct in saying that i should almost always try to be delayed drifting or if there are specific scenarios when its just slower.
@@lexoll. you basically want to do it as much as possible. Really the only time I don’t do it is when I’m doing a bunch of drifts one right after the other (like on dragon Driftway)
@@Bayesic whats the downside to delayed drifting in that scenario? Cuz wouldnt you still get the mt faster so you can also start your next drift faster?
@@lexoll. in that particular example it’s just to start turning earlier to take a better line. You basically don’t have enough space to delay drift properly and still take the turn tightly
yea im so used to the tight left right airbrake drifting mechanics of sony's wipeout kart drifting is totally different & im finding it tough to take tight turns like i want when i hold the drift button i go wide turn..not tight..if i hold it short its not drifting my opponents are crushing me w/ their drifting & already knowing the courses so
Tellin ya… time trials are the way to go haha. It seems boring but if you can consistently beat the staff ghosts, especially without using mushrooms, you’ll be better than like 90% of the player base
i just started playing kart last nite & i figured it out..early drifting..& kart specs..i didnt know each kart so different..wish i could ride say a cool looking F1 or Benz kart & still have high acceleration stat but..once I found the right karts I was flying..now im figuring out defense 'cause once I get the lead its inevitable they crash me right before the finish line every time..i want more than luck to win..thx for the details@@Bayesic
I was SHOCKED to find out that there's no turbo charging difference between a 2-o'clock drift and a 3. I just assumed it was a linear increase, but knowing that I only need a 2-o'clock for fast turbos is a massive help.
Personally I just grinder until I got 3 stars on ever track in 100 (mostly because I play that speed with my brother) and lived onto 150 then to mirror mode I’ve been trying to player 200cc but I can’t get control properly I’ve experimented with different chapters and kart parts but I always fly off on certain bends
Halfway through the video, but I believe you should by this point have talked about the assisted driving, motion controls and auto acceleration. Two of those are on by default and a novice drive doesn't realize easily.
I got really good at Mario Kart Wii but then I stopped playing and after years of not playing I got Mario Kart 8 and I’m like what’s going on, I don’t understand what’s happening
teeeechnically there's a '4th way' to get coins that you don't mention, i only bring it up cuz i didnt even realize it was a thing until yesterday but depending on where u start in a race you get more coins automatically so i noticed the other day i entered a room and my first race i started in the 8th slot and i think i had like 3 coins to start the race
I have been training like crazy during the holidays season, for the soul purpose of beating a friend who ALWAYS wins. He’s unbeatable. It’s infuriating at this point, I don’t know if I have gotten any better yet. But I’ve been online a lot and so far my performance shifts a lot. Is it only me, or are Scandinavians crazy good at Mario Kart???
Depends on the turn. On 150 brake drifting is almost never used except for like rainbow road and waluigi pinball, and even then it’s only to take good lines as opposed to surviving the turns. You can always try starting the turns a bit wider if you’re having trouble On 200 yeah brake drifting is used to take a lot of the hairpin turns
It's actually with any item. If you are holding any item it's highly impossible to get the same item again from a box. ie two single bananas or two triple red shells
Don’t know if that’s true. I get doubles pretty frequently. Might just seem that way cause there are so many items that the probability of getting any one item is pretty low, meaning that the probability of two is even lower. But coins are specifically designed to not let you have two (at least in online races / normal items)
I enjoy inward drifting bikes much more than outward drifting vehicle, would not using later put me in a big disadvantage? just for online purpose and personal time trials, I'm not looking to break any records
Nah plenty of people use inward bikes and do just fine. There are certain courses like dragon Driftway where you’ll be at somewhat of a disadvantage, but even then good driving is gonna be way more important than inward / outwars
Man gracias por tu video la verdad esto me va ayudar mucho acabo de comprar el switch para mi hijo pero igual ya me gusto mucho y ahora ya se que tengo que hacer seguiré mirando tus videos saludos bye

If you don't mind video ideas, maybe a video that explains the mechanics behind each stat? I think that could make for a super interesting deep-dive.
Thanks! I was definitely concerned about coming across as patronizing, so I’m glad to hear that’s not the case
Last time I played MC was on SNES. Looks like there's been some changes but the fundamentals are pretty familiar. Thanks!
Subbed. Great content. Keep up the good work!
this game is so fun I cant stop playing it
Brilliant video as always!
My favourite build: Iggy on the inkstriker roller wheels and parachute
another good one is king boo on the teddy buggy roller wheels and parachute
i play with tilt steering. is koopa troopa, standard bike, slim wheels, and parachute a good build?
Theoretically if you played perfectly tilt controls could be as good as jon tilt controls, I’d say in general it’s really hard to be as precise with tilt controls as you can be with the joystick
Other than that tho I don’t think the builds differ between the two
@@Bayesic ok, but is it a good build?
@@JCetty Not particularly haha. Really the only tires that are good are Rollers/Blue Rollers/Leaf/Button. Everything else is pretty situational. I'd also swap out standard bike for a higher speed kart cause dry bones is pretty slow
@@Bayesicok
0:31 i just got the game this morning 😭 what am i getting my self into
I'm shocked to hear that people dislike time trialing. These are my favorite part of any racing game.
Then it's totally time to try TrackMania
Great video and much thanks!! I’ve tried looking on UA-cam but is there any practice tips you’d recommend? Like if I’m trying to get good as fast as possible maybe a few track/NISC recommendations I should grind out ? Almost have all the dev ghosts beat and I completed the game all the way through 200cc which wasn’t too challenging. Thanks again !
I'd suggest electrodrome, Mario Circuit 3 (if you have the booster course pass), and Neo Bowser City just because those tracks all require you to master skills that are useful on basically every course in the game
@@Bayesic much thanks ! Planning to purchase dlc asap
And can’t wait for Bayesic Training on Neo Bowser ! It’s my favorite track !
@@MikeyStreet314 it’s coming out within the next week!
@@Bayesic POGU. Excellent content and I bet you’ll get a big spike in viewership with the 2023 tracks coming out later this year! I played tons of snes and n64 kart as a kid but then got old and had kids hahaha great to see the game is better then ever with a pretty large community!
pov: you and your family play mario kart as a family game and you wanna beat them
When I play with my daughters I just shell the daylights out of all the CPUs
They get to win and I get to practice ruining people’s days
@@Bayesic lol
@@Bayesicthat's some next level pro gaming lol
I want to note that you generally don't need to drop bombs behind you in 200cc, you'll be going fast enough that you'll outrun the explosion
Thank you for the video!
2:49 i think king boo has the same stats as rosalina and link
Oh did I forget to mention him? Yeah he does
Thanks for the tips!
A few of these skills I developed from my mario kart 64 days
Thank you so much, was very helpful
Yea they do, I just never use them cause it’s uncomfortable for me but definitely an oversight on my part not to Include it
@@Bayesic no worries!
You basically don’t have enough space to delay drift properly and still take the turn tightly
yea im so used to the tight left right airbrake drifting mechanics of sony's wipeout
kart drifting is totally different & im finding it tough to take tight turns like i want
when i hold the drift button i go wide turn..not tight..if i hold it short its not drifting
my opponents are crushing me w/ their drifting & already knowing the courses so
Tellin ya… time trials are the way to go haha.
Excellent, thanks!👍
I was SHOCKED to find out that there's no turbo charging difference between a 2-o'clock drift and a 3. I just assumed it was a linear increase, but knowing that I only need a 2-o'clock for fast turbos is a massive help.
What are those blue things on the maps that when you hit them, you spin slowly with that blue shield around you….
This was helpful thank you.
Time trials ate super underrated. I finally figured out drift braking so I've been trialing the 200cc action
Thanks, very helpful!
I just completed all the 150cc Grand Prixs with triple stars today 😅😅😅😅😅
i just have to learn when to start drifting and how to move the joystick while drifting in every turn in the game and then i’ll be set
I am watching this for the only sole reason of beating my friends, rather than becoming a pro and playing online lol
I more of a mkwii kinda guy, but this is a very well made video and who knows; maybe I'll renew my online member ship and try mk8 someday. :D
Holding the coin in first is about to save my life
Personally I just grinder until I got 3 stars on ever track in 100 (mostly because I play that speed with my brother) and lived onto 150 then to mirror mode
I’ve been trying to player 200cc but I can’t get control properly I’ve experimented with different chapters and kart parts but I always fly off on certain bends
I also despise time trials
Or just drop the bo bomb behind you before the shell gets too close.
Have you tried brake drifting? Most people can't do 200cc without it.
@@littlelum9773 no I basically glue my thumb to Y
Try beating all the staff ghosts in CTR Nitro Fueled to get Master Wheels. That's a damn gauntlet of mastering the game.
Thanks
Halfway through the video, but I believe you should by this point have talked about the assisted driving, motion controls and auto acceleration. Two of those are on by default and a novice drive doesn't realize easily.
It’s been so long since I started playing I didn’t even realize/remember they’re on by default lol
6:20 Alberto el Padre 🇪🇸
I have been training like crazy during the holidays season, for the soul purpose of beating a friend who ALWAYS wins. He’s unbeatable.
It’s infuriating at this point, I don’t know if I have gotten any better yet. But I’ve been online a lot and so far my performance shifts a lot. Is it only me, or are Scandinavians crazy good at Mario Kart???
How do you take hairpin turns ?? Brake drifting?
Depends on the turn. On 150 brake drifting is almost never used except for like rainbow road and waluigi pinball, and even then it’s only to take good lines as opposed to surviving the turns. You can always try starting the turns a bit wider if you’re having trouble
On 200 yeah brake drifting is used to take a lot of the hairpin turns

*A question* from an absolute beginner. (If you have the time and desire to answer, that would be nice) : is the Special Cup, the distance Bone Dry Dunes (Desert). Is the second track in the Cup. I don't know if it's also the English name. I just can't get to the upper level after the ramp. Is there a trick? Don't have this problem with any other track. I'm at a loss. -
*I like time trials too* 😊
Upper level is slower any way so don’t worry about it :-)
This really is a helpful video
