I have this amp. Sounds great with humbuckers or singlecoils. The amps distortion sounds very good but if more drive is needed it takes pedals with ease. Great review Andy.
Does the clean sound have that "boutique" quality like the Super 10? How do the clean tones compare?(I love the Super 10 but I just found a Cub 10 for $200usd less that I could buy now instead of having to save longer if it's good)...I play an S-style and like anything from neosoul to jangley Celtic alternative to Floyd and Hendrix and dabble with some light jazz as well.
I believe he did this review using the Lo input, only. There is a significant difference between the two inputs, with the Hi input allowing a stronger pickup signal for increased output throughout the range.
True - with those lower output single coil pickups, he did the amp a disservice by demoing only the LO input, esp on the overdrive demo. Per the Manual, LO attenuates the input down 50% from the HI input and is for "full range clean sounds," while HI (stands for high gain) enables the amp to be overdriven more easily, and has a restricted low frequency range to avoid a "mushy" sound from high output guitars." I have guitars that sound better LO, and others that sound better HI. I get different sounds on all of them by experimenting back and forth with the inputs - makes for a versatile amp. The ONLY thing I'd add to this amp is a reverb effect - otherwise, it's perfect for me - it sounds like a punchy 2 6v6 amp should (think Princeton and the like, and their forte isn't really overdrive stuff, so AC/DC folk best look elsewhere, though the Laney takes pedals well).
@@upload2352 thanks for this. I'm eyeing on one of these, I just recently discovered about it (dont know how is that even possible lol) when I saw an add selling it for cheap earlier. Apparently I'm overseas rn and can't buy it. I'm about to get the Fender Junior Pro as my bedroom amp, but I'm liking this one now, and even cheaper
@@TheTruth70777 It's worth a try if you can find one. Laney's a UK company, and I've seen spirited boards discussing the amp, so I know it was available at least in parts of Europe, and Asia. Since I posted above, I've concluded the Laney's a little bass heavy on the E string on some guitars at low volume, even accounting for pickup height adjustment issues. I also decided it's voiced a little "darker" than a normal Fender "clean" amp, so it's better, to me, with single coils over humbuckers (where you'll keep the "tone" [actually a treble cut] to max treble), but humbuckers are very usable. I'm a low-volume player, so the 10" speaker sounds fine, great, really, but I wanted to see if I could keep the tube tone but get a more responsive speaker for low volume, and yesterday I mounted a 8" Vox Bulldog from a Vox Pathfinder 15R (solid state) via an adapter baffle (wooden ring). I am very pleased. Lost all of the excess bass, but still have good bass response (limited, relative to the 10", of course, but that's OK with me), and it sounds like a tube amp. Sounds tighter, with a more articulated string-to-string response. The Bulldog is an exceptional speaker, imo. Best of luck with the Junior Pro, about which, I know nothing.
After a year, I replaced the 8" Bulldog with the stock HH 10" - no particular reason, just wanted more bass, as I have the Bulldog in my Vox Pathfinder already. Still like the amp!
There is a speaker output at the back as well, does it mean it can connect to a bigger cabin? it doesnt have an fx loop as well does it take pedals very well?
bru th 1 second ago Didnt like the gain, a bit flappy. I tried a couple other 12A--- in the gain stage. A 5751 made it my favorite amp. Unbelievable diff. Awesome now. toiyt loyk a toyga
Im sorry im a beginner trying to find a valve amp on a budget I keep coming back to this Laney Cub, the 5751 are tubes right ? which did you replace the 6v6GT's ? Thanks David
David trueslayor Hi, the one I replaced that made the diff was the first small tube , 12AX7. It is the gain tube. The 5751 is a lower output tube, a 12AU7 or 12AT7 may work "better" than the 12AX7 as well.
This is really a crappy amp, clean is mediocre at best, but the drive is some of the worst farthy drives ever. It is a really bad speaker inside. Any small modeling amp sounds a lot better than this box.
@@bobcabo4509 thank you kindly. I do feel it's a great little amp, and I'm not sure how the shrill sound in this video was achieved! (Though I would add that mine has the later HH brand speaker, which I have no intention of changing) Sadly they're no longer available, and I'm glad I got one before it was too late. It gets used daily.

Every one says “it’s so loud for a xx watt amp”.
Each watt adds 3db of sound. The first watt generally yields 95db.
I believe each doubling of watts adds 3db.
Kinda like a Princeton meets mini-Hiwatt. Looking for a smaller amp to compliment my Laney Cub12r.

It’s me teddy Andy your old student in tannery and my guitar strings broke😱😱
Really good keep it up!!!!👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Teddy, Get it fixed and start playing again :-)
Together with a reverb pedal it sounds fantastic.
Getting one
Great amps.
They seem to stay clean pretty well for such a low powered amp.
Andy you have a lotta fun while playing guitar. It's a sweet little amp anyway. Is it possible to put a tube screamer before it? :)
Surreal /// A tube screamer would work perfectly with this amp. I really did love this amp. Very cool

Dec. '23 - I still like the amp w/original speaker. Original bass-heavy thing w/H-H speaker is gone, or I grew to like it, not sure.
Great work man 👍
Should put a mulity effects board threw the clean
Thank you! I subscribed to your fascinating channel. Like! Greetings from Moldova!
Been looking at this for Gilmour clean tones to use with dirt pedals.
Renaissance Man Did you ever get this amp for Gilmour stuff ?
10 watt amps loud, not a surprise.
It's 6 watts. Still loud.
New version is 6w, this one is 10w.
Will you do a tutorial on gorgeous by mansionz
am so tired of Marshall and now tired of prs. mt15..too much....this Laney is hitting the spot...
İs there a Different high and low inputs?
Yes, if you still wanna know, the amp have a high and a low input!
upgrade the stock speaker get better tubes and y have a killer cheap amp
It's no longer cheap when you do that.
Which speaker/tubes would you recommend?

Is it a tube amp or valve?
it is a tube amp
American way of saying it is tube, British is valve.
can you gig with this?
Depends on the type of gig. If you are going to mic it up then yes. If you are playing with a drum kit without micing it up then probably no
