Straight through resonators like that usually decrease back pressure in an exhaust and make power. The sound pressure pulses it is deadening is building up in the packing, making a high pressure area inside the packing, the air going through the resonator slides more easily over this high pressure air than it does along the side of a pipe.
After surching for a way to make my honda sound the best I found that a good resonator is all you need it works better than any muffler you could ever buy and actually if you ditch the muffler that car sounds way better

If you cut the resonator at 18” you don’t have to cut the new pipe... and you leave enough meat on each end of the resonator to reinstall with the clamps...

I deleted the resonator today, the same thing you did here myself, off of my 2018 F30 330i M Sport, I really wasn't hoping or even thinking it would make a difference in the sound but it actually did. I'm just waiting on my M performance muffler from a 340i to come in, I hope everything goes nice and smooth on the install but I'm not sure exactly what diffuser to get and from where, I mean I'll find it eventually.. But yeah anyways thanks for the video If I didn't see this I probably would have ended up paying over $100 for that. Thx👍

I did that on my Dad's CRX recently, the only thing I notice is the Engine run quieter + smoother. Reason for that is, his Resonator broke inside and it was blocking the Exhaust Flow.

Definitely do it. I have a E46 325i, and I started cutting off mufflers and resonators from the back forward until I was happy. Now it has only cats.... The sound is worth it!!

Great video and explanation, I prefer an aftermarket flow through muffler instead of the stock unit. The 335 N54 sounds great without any muffler or resonator but as we all know, it warrants some unnecessary attention. Lol

Daniel Cruz nope not at all. Only thing that will cause that is removing the o2 sensor . . You can take off anything after that point . Resonator is literally a sound reducer

I drilled 6. 5/16 holes in my pipe before the muffler. No difference in sound just sounds like an exhaust leak. , since im doing my own work on my 2007 328i base model that i want to make it look like a M3. Im a give it a try and cut out the resonator and see what happens
@@JDCarsChannel should have 2nd cats its around the midpipe closer to exhaust aside from resonator, the resonator is more for a good tone but the 2nd cat youll get a good burble louder sound.

Brownhash or rev up to 4K then feather push the gas paddle and you will here a machine gun
just rev up to 3k in second and feather the gas down to 2k and give it more gas up to 3k-3.5k

How well do the band clamps actually stay over time?
I use them on mack trucks (without the muffler sealant he is using) and I've never had any issues

The f30 has the n55. The n54 is a legendary engine for tuning. I still miss my e90 a lot - such a good chassis
