    TIP : If you want custom property to be a color then type [1.0,1.0,1.0] in Property value and magically you will see a dropdown appear with name 'subtype'. In that dropdown you can select linear color or gamma corrected color press ok and voila!!!

      leaving this here in case people need it: for newer versions of blender, all you need to do is change the property type to "float array," then the subtype options appear.

      @@UncleSalad To cap it off, leaving the array length at 3 gives you the color picker, and 4 gives you a color picker with the alpha option.

    Since I'm using Auto-Rig pro....
    What I'm trying to do is use a DRIVER and use the DRIVER to SWITCH the character's elevation/height and move the feet and toes to fit in different shoe elevation.
    I know I have to use Copy transformer (I think), custom properties and single properties to achieve this.

    TIP: If you use Rigify and regenerate your rig often as you tune it, you'll have noticed any custom properties on the control bones get wiped out every time. (btw if you know how to avoid this please drop a reply). I work around this by adding the custom property to a joint on the metarig as these get transferred to a control bone when you generate the rig, not always predictably but you can get something working that'll avoid you having to manually recreate your custom props.
    Also, Pierrick looking out for the Blender animators. Thanks man.

    Hey Pierrick this was a really good tutorial on drivers. Can you please make a tutorial on how to set up custom properties to hide parts of a rig. Say i want to work on the feet/legs/torso without being distracted by the arms. So I want to hide them.
    In the original rig file I have made vertex groups for each arm, then created mask modifiers targeting those vertex groups. I've made custom props on the character, sat up drivers to hide them and it works there. But as I link in the rig in an empty file, those custom properties do not follow nor does the vertex groups so how do I solve this issue?

    What's the point when its overriding remaining two which already 1
    rather we can write an expression on each constraint
    1 if a==1 else 0
    1 if b==2 else 0
    1 if c==3 else 0
    1 if d==4 else 0
    in these case only one object will work but we can set which object we need to move unlike above where we ended with last target

    Hello, I would like to build a computer to do development, 2d and 3d graphics (modeling, animation, etc.) with blender and krita as software, as well as a few games.
    But the problem is, I don't know what to take for processor and graphics card. I do not know if it is better to take a ryzen 3900 or take the new 5000. And for the graphics card I wanted to go on amd too but the same, a 5700 or the new 6000. But I am still open to other configs.
    I thought to put a budget between 1000/1500 € see 2000 € big max.
    I specify that I am an amateur in the field of graphics but I would like a computer which lasts in the long term.
    What do you recommend?

    • @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN
      @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN  3 роки тому +3

      Well, regarding the processor, AMD are great, it's more a matter of budget, but Ryzen are good CPU. For the graphic card I would suggest switching to Nvidia though.
      They are better supported by blender and faster. For the same price you could have a 3070 wich would be a blast for sure.

    • @3Rton
      @3Rton 3 роки тому +1

      I can personally say from the experience of still being on I7 4790k that I don't feel that limited being on 4 cores (in modeling, texturing, sculpting although I sculpt in Zbrush which generally feels more responsive on my system than B3D atm) in other hand my GPU is definitely showing its age. BUT if you were to instead work a lot on particles, fluids with mantaflow, animations with multiple rigs+1subd per rig, your experience would be different.
      Between Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series it mainly comes down to what you are doing and prices for available CPUs. The cores 5000 series will be nominally better, the instruction improvement is supposed to be around 19% between the generation. However, lets hypothetically look at 5000 series with 8 cores vs 3000 series with 12 cores
      5000 series could be 19% faster at same clocks and core count but the 3000 series has 34% more cores. If your use case can utilize all the cores in this case the 3000 could be better. But if your use case DOESNT multithread properly the 5000 would be faster. Puget system has some good benchmarks with relevant software (if you compare the 5900X and 3900X they difference tends to be between 5%-20% as would be expected)
      www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/AMD-Ryzen-5000-Series-CPU-Review-Roundup-1962/
      Another thing to consider though is your RAM speed. If your RAM is low it will bottleneck your CPU so it won't really matter how fast or many cores you have (after say 6 cores) So if you are considering the choice between 3000 series 12core with 3200MHz RAM vs 3000 series 16 core with 2400MHz you should go with the 12 core. I wouldn't consider less than 3200Mhz with more than 8 cores. Ideally I would want to get 3600MHz or more with the 12 core. Going beyond that, though, validation for higher speed RAM has been finnicky so it might be not worth the hassle.
      For the GPU side you definitely want to either go with the new RX6000 series or RTX 2000/3000 series. The optix backends for RTX accelerated rendering are amazing. The Substance applications support accelerating your map baking with optix which is equally amazing. Right now AMD is behind in terms of software support BUT the new cards do have raytrace accelerators (the RX5000 cards do not have physical accelerators for this) Nvidia also has deep learning accelerators on their cards which they are using for all kinds of cool things. But at the same time some overclockers are getting the RX6800XT to trade blows with RTX 3090 on air. So it is really hard to say. AMD has notoriety for bad software support but if they do get their stuff together there..?
      Additional consideration, though, is CUDA. CUDA is GPU programming language for Nvidia cards. (AMDs alternative would be OpenCL) CUDE support can be relevant because not all apps support OpenCL. The biggest example used to be Substance apps which were CUDA only so you wouldn't be able to use them/would be stuck with software acceleration. This has since been remedied, though, so I don't know of any big example for this. AliceVision Meshroom is the only example I can think of immediately where without CUDA compatible card you'll be stuck using the CPU. Anyhow this might be a consideration.
      For myself what I've done is I bought dirt cheap RTX 2060 from blackfriday sale. I've waited way too long for an upgrade to wait any longer. But at the same time I don't want to spend big money right now before seeing how the 6000 series matures. I remember the RTX launch when we had marbles demo and 4 games that supported the feature if you wanted to play at cinematic 30 fps. But then after some months optix baking for substance was announced. And then they sponsored the development of the Optix backend for Blender and we got the optix viewport. And then they slapped every RTX2000 series owner in the face with the RTX3000 series launch. If next two years for AMD look anything similar... oh boy
      Anyhow hope some of this has been useful, gl/hf

      @@3Rton thank you for all this information. i think i'll finally go to nvidia for the gpu. But I was told that it is better to have two gpu for rendering. But two 3070s are not giving either. For the RAM, I plan to 32go 3200mhz. After for the cpu, I still hesitate either the 3900x or the 5600x. I would like a pc that holds up for a while.

    • @3Rton
      @3Rton 3 роки тому +1

      @@Fred-fx2lp Well two GPU's means you can render two frames at the same time but I don't know if I'd invest into that before you actually know you'll have so many frames to render that it'd be justified to go for that. 3070 is a good card in general, I doubt you'll have much to complain about it for the next 3 years.
      Can't think of much more to say on the CPU. 3900X has twice the cores 5600X has ~20% better cores. It'll mainly come down to what kind of workload you will be using the CPU for 3 years from now.

    hey again my friend! Would it be possible to make a tutorial on rigging a skirt or robe? I've searched for a long time but there aren't really many video's about it. There is probably a reason why they rarely use skirts or robes in games? (unless its open between the legs) Could you please give some advice on what kind of mechanics you would use to create a skirt rig? Everything I tried looks ugly. I also tried cloth simulation but while better looking for sure, it's still is not ideal. (probably because I'm not good)

    • @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN
      @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN  3 роки тому

      Well, in feature film this genraly a technical artist job to make this kind of thing. IT's not really at the rig level but more at the simulation level (which I don(t do at all).
      In games, robes and skirt are a pain, because it's very complicated to get a nice movement, it clips all the time and it's hard to figure a somple rig.
      I will study it and see what I can do.

    if prefer use this king of logic in the driver:
    1 if SNATCH == 1 else 0
    2 if SNATCH == 2 else 0
    3 if SNATCH == 3 else 0
    as this i can see clearly what value is in use by witch bone

    So I started using Blender 3.1 and when I link my rigged character to another scene and use the library override everything is fine except when I click on the properties bone all the sliders are greyed out which is weird because I don’t recall this ever happening before (in 2.9 I believe)
    Some help would be appreciated

      Because I did that initially. After doing that I go into Pose Mode click the properties bone and all the sliders are still gray. I don’t know if there’s something I missed.

    -What will be the difference between Effective Rigging In Blender and the new course?
    -How much of the new course will be aimed at game engines?

    • @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN
      @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN  3 роки тому

      The art of effectivie rigging is about rigging. This is going to be an animation course so it will be quite different.
      Animation technics can then be used in feature or games, no problem

    • @3Rton
      @3Rton 3 роки тому

      From what he said I would assume that the main focus of the new course is ANIMATION while the focus of the Effective Rigging is RIGGING.
      I would assume the new course has relatively little creature/asset rigging except for constraints used between rigs etc (say basic stuff like weapon constrained to the palm and so on)
      As for how game engine focused no clue, hopefully he will see this and clarify on that himself.

      I don't think that much studios use riggify in producction to be honest

    All is fine and understandable, but I can't understand why you skipped the very important part after you typed "color". I have now hard times... Hardly figured out some things like where to find the proper editor type, then how to add a RGB dial, but it still not works... You wasted a lot of time with simple things and skipped this important moment at all... I never worked with nodes etc, still learning all this and for now this video is worthless for me, just wasted my time and learned just a very little... ok, I will try to find some other video, clearly explaining how to make it work ...
