Custom Properties on the Armature level is useful when you have a "character switch" Example: all characters use the same armature but their facial and body shapes, materials, clothes and hair have a unique ID (int prop value) Selecting from the unique ID number from the character list can toggle between multiple characters with one armature.

Hello, I would like to build a computer to do development, 2d and 3d graphics (modeling, animation, etc.) with blender and krita as software, as well as a few games. But the problem is, I don't know what to take for processor and graphics card. I do not know if it is better to take a ryzen 3900 or take the new 5000. And for the graphics card I wanted to go on amd too but the same, a 5700 or the new 6000. But I am still open to other configs. I thought to put a budget between 1000/1500 € see 2000 € big max. I specify that I am an amateur in the field of graphics but I would like a computer which lasts in the long term. What do you recommend?
Well, regarding the processor, AMD are great, it's more a matter of budget, but Ryzen are good CPU. For the graphic card I would suggest switching to Nvidia though. They are better supported by blender and faster. For the same price you could have a 3070 wich would be a blast for sure.
I can personally say from the experience of still being on I7 4790k that I don't feel that limited being on 4 cores (in modeling, texturing, sculpting although I sculpt in Zbrush which generally feels more responsive on my system than B3D atm) in other hand my GPU is definitely showing its age. BUT if you were to instead work a lot on particles, fluids with mantaflow, animations with multiple rigs+1subd per rig, your experience would be different. Between Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series it mainly comes down to what you are doing and prices for available CPUs. The cores 5000 series will be nominally better, the instruction improvement is supposed to be around 19% between the generation. However, lets hypothetically look at 5000 series with 8 cores vs 3000 series with 12 cores 5000 series could be 19% faster at same clocks and core count but the 3000 series has 34% more cores. If your use case can utilize all the cores in this case the 3000 could be better. But if your use case DOESNT multithread properly the 5000 would be faster. Puget system has some good benchmarks with relevant software (if you compare the 5900X and 3900X they difference tends to be between 5%-20% as would be expected) www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/AMD-Ryzen-5000-Series-CPU-Review-Roundup-1962/ Another thing to consider though is your RAM speed. If your RAM is low it will bottleneck your CPU so it won't really matter how fast or many cores you have (after say 6 cores) So if you are considering the choice between 3000 series 12core with 3200MHz RAM vs 3000 series 16 core with 2400MHz you should go with the 12 core. I wouldn't consider less than 3200Mhz with more than 8 cores. Ideally I would want to get 3600MHz or more with the 12 core. Going beyond that, though, validation for higher speed RAM has been finnicky so it might be not worth the hassle. For the GPU side you definitely want to either go with the new RX6000 series or RTX 2000/3000 series. The optix backends for RTX accelerated rendering are amazing. The Substance applications support accelerating your map baking with optix which is equally amazing. Right now AMD is behind in terms of software support BUT the new cards do have raytrace accelerators (the RX5000 cards do not have physical accelerators for this) Nvidia also has deep learning accelerators on their cards which they are using for all kinds of cool things. But at the same time some overclockers are getting the RX6800XT to trade blows with RTX 3090 on air. So it is really hard to say. AMD has notoriety for bad software support but if they do get their stuff together there..? Additional consideration, though, is CUDA. CUDA is GPU programming language for Nvidia cards. (AMDs alternative would be OpenCL) CUDE support can be relevant because not all apps support OpenCL. The biggest example used to be Substance apps which were CUDA only so you wouldn't be able to use them/would be stuck with software acceleration. This has since been remedied, though, so I don't know of any big example for this. AliceVision Meshroom is the only example I can think of immediately where without CUDA compatible card you'll be stuck using the CPU. Anyhow this might be a consideration. For myself what I've done is I bought dirt cheap RTX 2060 from blackfriday sale. I've waited way too long for an upgrade to wait any longer. But at the same time I don't want to spend big money right now before seeing how the 6000 series matures. I remember the RTX launch when we had marbles demo and 4 games that supported the feature if you wanted to play at cinematic 30 fps. But then after some months optix baking for substance was announced. And then they sponsored the development of the Optix backend for Blender and we got the optix viewport. And then they slapped every RTX2000 series owner in the face with the RTX3000 series launch. If next two years for AMD look anything similar... oh boy Anyhow hope some of this has been useful, gl/hf
@@3Rton thank you for all this information. i think i'll finally go to nvidia for the gpu. But I was told that it is better to have two gpu for rendering. But two 3070s are not giving either. For the RAM, I plan to 32go 3200mhz. After for the cpu, I still hesitate either the 3900x or the 5600x. I would like a pc that holds up for a while.
@@Fred-fx2lp Well two GPU's means you can render two frames at the same time but I don't know if I'd invest into that before you actually know you'll have so many frames to render that it'd be justified to go for that. 3070 is a good card in general, I doubt you'll have much to complain about it for the next 3 years. Can't think of much more to say on the CPU. 3900X has twice the cores 5600X has ~20% better cores. It'll mainly come down to what kind of workload you will be using the CPU for 3 years from now.
as explained in the video's description: the rig properties panel is actually from the third pary addon Space Switcher, available here: gitlab.com/AquaticNightmare/space_switcher/-/tree/master
So I started using Blender 3.1 and when I link my rigged character to another scene and use the library override everything is fine except when I click on the properties bone all the sliders are greyed out which is weird because I don’t recall this ever happening before (in 2.9 I believe) Some help would be appreciated
@@nightblade178 Are you talking about right clicking the linked character, going down to ID Data, then Make Library Override Hierarchy? Because I did that initially. After doing that I go into Pose Mode click the properties bone and all the sliders are still gray. I don’t know if there’s something I missed.
You can right click on the "screen icon" of the bone in the outliner and add a driver. This will allow you to hide a specific bone at once. or you can put it on a specific layer.

However, lets hypothetically look at 5000 series with 8 cores vs 3000 series with 12 cores
5000 series could be 19% faster at same clocks and core count but the 3000 series has 34% more cores. If your use case can utilize all the cores in this case the 3000 could be better. But if your use case DOESNT multithread properly the 5000 would be faster. Puget system has some good benchmarks with relevant software (if you compare the 5900X and 3900X they difference tends to be between 5%-20% as would be expected)

Another thing to consider though is your RAM speed.
If next two years for AMD look anything similar... oh boy
Anyhow hope some of this has been useful, gl/hf
@@3Rton Thanks for the detailed answer :)
It'll mainly come down to what kind of workload you will be using the CPU for 3 years from now.
there is just one thing missing here, What if i want to add the custom property and then use that on a different object?
Just drive the other object.
Custom props are just using driver, you can use drivers on anything keyable.
would you mind to do some finger driver usage?
Can't seem to get rig properties to show. Anyone else have this issue?
same
UPD: I made a post with an answer for this topic

as explained in the video's description: the rig properties panel is actually from the third pary addon Space Switcher, available here:

With the new course please include looping animations for games!! please please
Yeah don't worry. This is something I've also shown here : ua-cam.com/video/QmGCBA4yLvY/v-deo.html
how to get these custom properties on a new tab we create instead of Item tab?
You need to do a bit of script
@@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN oh, ok
So I started using Blender 3.1 and when I link my rigged character to another scene and use the library override everything is fine except when I click on the properties bone all the sliders are greyed out which is weird because I don’t recall this ever happening before (in 2.9 I believe)
Some help would be appreciated
u have to enable is library overridable to use linked data
@@nightblade178 Are you talking about right clicking the linked character, going down to ID Data, then Make Library Override Hierarchy?
Because I did that initially. After doing that I go into Pose Mode click the properties bone and all the sliders are still gray. I don’t know if there’s something I missed.
@@isaacfields7923 0:01 the check he ticked. U have to check that box
Ohhhhh!
I’m dumb, thanks!
how to create bone visibility as a custom property?
You can right click on the "screen icon" of the bone in the outliner and add a driver.
This will allow you to hide a specific bone at once. or you can put it on a specific layer.
UV sphere has no place in MY modelling engine.
