- The SEC On CBS has been one of the most watched College Football media properties over the last several years, always beginning with the trademark drums of what has become known as the SEC On CBS theme music. On Late Kick Live Ep 246 Josh Pate took a viewer question about the future of the SEC On CBS theme music when the SEC contract moves to ESPN. Will the music accompany the rights package via a licensing deal of some sort or will ESPN look to create their own elements for the broadcasts? Will it ever be possible to replace something that has become so iconic and synonymous with SEC football? I love the CBS theme, Brad Nessler was great it is Gary Danielson who was the problem. I recognized the CBS theme as fall. It could be 98 degrees in September but that first SEC game with CBS indicated to me that fall is here.
Foh Gary Danielson is awesome
Cbs college football music been a classic since the 80s
It was first used for Super Bowl XXI on January 25, 1987.
that theme _is_ the sound of college football. i dont want them to get rid of it :(
i totally agree...but as a Big Ten fan, that theme does not fit the Big Ten at all. It is synonymous with SEC football. the theme should only be for SEC sports. CBS should make a new theme for the Big Ten games
@Skippy the Alien actually it was played first for the big ten I remember it being played in the mid 80s
It’s going to big ten
When you enter the gates of heaven, the SEC on CBS theme song plays
I love it but the NFL on CBS music is better
No that theme is an instant nostalgia hit for me, don't know what I'll do without it :(
Ahhhhh that song brings joy to every inch of my body , I miss college football so much and I pray they don’t take away that beutiful noise .
CBS didn’t begin using this theme music, simply since it began their current run with the SEC’s broadcast rights, they were also using during their CFA broadcast rights days, as well as when they airing games from both the B1G and the PAC10 (now 12).
It actually debuted as part of CBS' intro to Super Bowl XXI in January 1987. Several months later, CBS decided to move the piece to its college football telecasts, which would not become exclusively SEC games for almost another decade (1996).
If so, I listened to it when it played for the very last time on SEC on CBS. almost teared up.
CBS introduced this theme back in 1987.
I love this song ever since a kid I’d hear it, somebody would crank it extra high up, and that was a 2 minute warning to wrap up your conversation or ur meal and to grab a beverage and a spot to sit and watch the game
SEC on CBS theme is iconic. How dare ye.
I have very little faith that any intro music will come close to SEC on CBS. it’s undefeated.
That theme song wasn’t bad.. until your team was losing and you just sat through the 50th 10 minute commercial break
Imagine the hell of a Vanderbilt fan
@@Reddeath111 Wait… there are Vanderbilt fans?
@@wbmccranie yea they sprinkled the field this year too one of the most polite field storming I've ever seen
Noooooo! It can't go away! When does this contract end that you are talking about? I need to know so I can prepare. lol.
I have been scared we are gonna lose the theme since the ESPN deal so nostalgic for me
Anybody else miss the old ABC College Football theme from the early 2000s. ESPN needs to bring that back for College Gameday! Also, CBS better not get rid of that theme. That theme is the anthem of SEC football and of the South period. As a Nashville native, I grew up on this theme, I’d hate to see it get replaced with some new age bop 🤦♂️
That might be a good replacement if ESPN gets the SEC game of the week later on. That old theme from 2006 and earlier. But I will still miss the CBS theme.
SEC is fully moving to ESPN in a few years.
CBS may not even have games anymore or maybe they’ll play a rotation of ACC, B10, Pac 12
I miss the old fox sports bcs theme from 2007-2010
I also identify it with Army-Navy America’s Game presented by USAA
It's CBS's music, they use it on whatever college football they show.
CBS will use the theme music for Big Ten football next year.
CBS had this music way before they got the SEC Package. I remember hearing this back in the 1980’s.
Wasn’t it used for NFL back then? I remember it, too.
@@rebeccasmith8110 yep super bowl 21
@@rebeccasmith8110 For Super Bowl XXI on January 25, 1987
If your a true CFB fan, you’ll remember the Fox Sports Net CFB theme for the Big 12. It’s so good
And now CBS is giving it to the Big Ten.
The SEC on CBS theme is so iconic cause when I hear it 3:30pm Saturday afternoons Tennessee @ Florida
Many people don't realize the "iconic" SEC on CBS theme was the intro theme for Super Bowl 21 on CBS. Time for a different theme. Like the 1990s NFL on CBS theme (92-95) for the Big Ten
Or better yet (albeit it's been gone for quite a while), bring back the NCAA Today music that was from 1982 through '84 (and also used for the first two seasons of Jim Nantz's four-year studio run w/The Prudential College Football Report, 1985 and 1986) for College Football Today, gamebreaks, and the Geico Halftime Report (and the 1984 through '86 music for game broadcasts).
They are not so much theme music, as thematic fanfares.
Every TV production company has access to composers that can develop a thematic fanfare without violating copyrights. For the regular (non-fan) viewer, the music just builds excitement. It's not the reason they are watching.
If you go back and check, you'll be surprised to hear how much those iconic themes have changed, and you never noticed.
Nope. It is used now and still will be used on games televised on CBS Sports Network.
I remember when came on,you knew it was going to be a big game. Like ou vs Nebraska, Miami vs fsu , etc
That was the opening of CBS Sports coverage of Super Bowl XXI on January 25 1987
Its the new B1G theme. CBS will use it for bigten now
Can we just make sure we retain the network themes and get rid of these country pop songs they love to change up season over season? CBS has already had a few stinkers but the SEC Network really tanked it with that "South on Ya" song this past season.
Remember "bob that head"? Sooooo fuckin gay
Big 10 should buy the old NBC Thursday night NFL music
CBS had this theme song long before SEC on CBS. I remember Miami vs Notre Dame Catholics vs Convicts boom there goes the dynamite 🧨 CBS college football theme song hit
It actually debuted for the Super Bowl in the 1980s. CBS also used it when they had the rights to Big East football, and uses it for the the Mountain West (although it is primarily on CBS Sports Network).
NBA on NBC theme music is a classic tune too
life without college football sucks😩
Similar to NBA on NBC from the nineties, iconic music that represented the sport
I still miss Roundball Rock (the NBA on NBC theme song).
Ba ba ba ba basketball....
Come on you've never seen SNL?
Now used as the Fox College Basketball theme.
I’m sorry nothing can beat that cbs sec theme song it’s something about that theme song
ABC failed on the music.... its a sad day
If ESPN uses the mid nineties college football music theme I’ll settle for it
I'm going to cry when the sec on cbs ends
Why wouldn't the Big Ten just say we will take it and keep it for CBS?
HaHa. The CBS college football theme will be brought back for the B1G Conference. 😁
That music will be apart of the Big Ten on CBS in 2024
Pate should know better. The music is CBS college football theme music, not sec specific.
ESPN has a banger soccer anthem but their other properties are hit and miss.
They can’t get rid of it
It's a classic gametime song
This is a non story CBS is using this music for the Big 10 next year their promos are using it and ESPN is trying to come up with a new one.
ESPN's current intro stuff for college football isn't that great to me really. Not since that theme they last used in 2006. It's just sterile hype music that they use now. And the theme they sorta use with the playoff is kinda... meh. Not terrible. Just meh.
Horse-pucky. But good point on most theme music's are really really good
Fox college BB took NBC, NBA theme music?
just bring back the BCS themes.. its that easy
Big 12 on CBS music right there.
I'm in the minority, but I actually prefer the theme when CBS has the gamebreak update.
Say it ain’t so
Better not 🤦♂️
The SeC doesn't own the song
As long as Gary Danielson is gone I’m good.
I would like to see the NHL on NBC theme return on ESPN.
ESPN gonna woke ESPN and F it up
nah anti woke fox f'd it up.
Hate cbs announcers but tunes good
PGA needs to bring back Barry White
It's the USGA, dummy.
They going to ruin it and lose it. ESPN ruins everything
1. They need to let sleeping dogs lie with the SEC music 100%.
2. What they need to change is the God awful pop country BS they play during the games.
Im not much of an NFL fan but their sound guy is absolutely killing it over the past 2-3 years. Give me some tasty jams and some classic rock and hip hop over whatever junk playlist the NCAA is using.
Florida Georgia Line, Luke Bryan, I honestly cant even think of another terrible country artist you use but REALLY? It’s embarrassing.
Much more optimistic to let the networks come up with new theme music vs hearing what BS they might replace FlaGaLine with.
The SEC should buy the rights for it. Then it follows them wherever they go.
The whole world is turning to isht, including the sports world, and we're worried about theme music. 🤔
ESPN will play some god awful hick hop country song for the intro.
Luke Combs South On Ya.
Thr SEC doesn't own the theme, lol yall dumb!! Big ten
Get rid of Gary Danielson, not SEC music.
I wanted SEC to stay with CBS
JP you are my favorite CFB show. However the SEC on CBS is a horrible broadcast. It is only slightly above the SECN's noon game coverage.
