- Big Ten football is a few months away and with a reworked media rights deal we are slated to see games from the conference across several networks. Is it that simple though? Josh Pate took some time on Late Kick Live Ep 389 to discuss the latest report from Pete Thamel at ESPN that detailed how outgoing Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren didn't get the appropriate signatures to close the deal thus leaving the Big Ten in a lurch. There is nothing more I’ve ever agreed with Josh on than when he said,” Kevin Warren, who was last seen doing such things as trying to sabotage the college football season.”
Thank you for that laugh on this Monday, couldn’t agree more.
B1G Kevin was a dope. Shout out to Nebraska, Iowa, and Ohio State who decided to sack up and actually play covidball.
Let me get this strait, this situation means that USC has to pay back comcast for the PAC 12 debacle and now will now get less from the B10? Priceless
Kevin Warren's run in the B1G was just shockingly horrific. We took Jim Delany for granted and ended up with a guy who, apparently, tried his hardest to derail a conference that simply needed minor babysitting. The B1G and SEC were on cruise control as the two dominant conferences in terms of money and competition and dude turned off the cruise control and tried to start steering the car with his feet while wearing a blindfold.
That's what the big10 gets for making political hires. He was a failure with the Vikings. He'll get another job because of Woke idiots.
Let’s hope this man actually did sign UCLA and USC to their contracts. If not, they didn’t even get them. Lol.
Oh I would love that ..
We don’t want them or Maryland/Rutgers
@@slibertas1996 correct..
@@slibertas1996 Speak for yourself. The B1G knew what they were doing when they added those schools. We do want Maryland and Rodgers. A graphic was just shown of players who get drafted and from what states and those are the only 2 areas in that part of the middle to upper east coast that have lots of football players drafted year in and year out and its not even close. They are also the 2 biggest media markets on the East Coast. The Maryland/DC area and the New Jersey area had more players than the states of Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin combined.
@@quentin6233 But those areas don't care to watch them
Meanwhile the SEC and ESPN cant come to an agreement on 9game conference schedule and final $$ figures.
Every conference has a mess on their hands... especially the Pac10 and SEC
Funny that this information was first reported by ESPN not FOX/NBC/CBS. Also, Chicago bears, good luck with your supposed new football stadium. Kevin Warren might just remodel the Soldier field.
Everyone and anyone who supported shutting down the 2020 season should be fired
About the only thing Scott Frost got right was fighting for the 2020 season to be played
@@jasonshaneyfelt1039 and everyone who supported playing in 2020 should get credit. He did good things before coaching Nebraska maybe he rebounds.
@@Mike-sp7zv He's got a good football mind. His offenses had some really brilliant things going on schematically and Nebraska did move the ball well under him, but struggled heavily when getting to the redzone. He's a good schemer, but struggles with the CEO aspect of the job and teaching details and fundamentals.
Can we include all politicians as well, Como, Newsome, the NJ Gov, Michigan governor, Fauchi, main stream media, teachers union and basically every other leftist.
@@SS-qu9nn yes
I want to get one thing straight for those who dont want the B1G. Its not that teams like Ohio State or Penn State dont want to actually play night games late in the year. Those night games are typically when big recruits get invited. I think theyre trying to avoid having 5 star kids from Florida freeze their butts off on the sideline.
Good point but it’s cold af regardless that time of the year lol. I’m from the south…anything below 60 we’re cold lol
@TarrikJahkiJabarr cold is subjective haha. I personally love a cool night where I could wear a hoodie.
@@ReggieRay88 I’m just saying generally speaking that shit gone be cold af regardless if it’s during the day or night lol especially if you black and from the south lol we don’t mess with cold weather. I’ve experienced snow maybe 3-4 times in my life. And most of those kids from southern states have similar experiences
@@ReggieRay88 I appreciate a cool night sometimes too tho.
@TarrikJahkiJabarr haha bro you're killing me. I feel you tho. The nice thing about noon games tho is you get the sun out which adds a few degrees higher than night
look that was a great big ten take, but an even better office take. Well done Josh, well done.
As a Bears fan, this gives me all kinds of warm fuzzies…
He used to be in the Front Office of the Vikings, so do what you will with that.
I was amazed he kept his job during COVID.
I wasn’t.
He was following the orders of the BIG 10 Marxist University professors. If it wasnt for Nebraska and Ohio St, there wouldnt have been a football season.
As a Michigan fan, I was horrified, but not surprised to learn Michigans President, who hated the football program, was instrumental in leading the shut football down campaign.
That school president is now fired, but the damage was done as way too many people fell for the plandemic they were pushing during an election year.
Reminds me of our former CEO and CFO who pushed through a new product to get their bonuses then left for other jobs only for us to realize they kind of didn't get that new product done. Oops. Now they both have hefty bonuses AND better paying positions at other companies while we laid people off. You have to start to wonder what the hell the C-Suite even does other than make money for themselves.
I run a small business and was raised to vote Repub, however, Im not a Boomer so I realize our corporations are out-of-control, abusive, greedy, and thanks to bail-outs they dont deserve, they are part of the reason our country is in freefall. I also realize the Dems, who used to claim they were for the working class, are now for the rich, corporate, globalist classes.
Josh Pate you're one of the best. Keep it up
Not playing prime time after October for big teams is crap.
It kind of is, but you can't blame them for being upset and refusing to so it when the commissioner agreed to it without asking them first.
I'd say the biggest issue with late night games in october and november is how cold it is in the midwest where most of these games will be played. Easy to play a October night game down in Florida a lot different to play that same game in Michigan.
Agreed, it gets too cold. And on top of that, in some cases you're going to have people tired people driving home at night in a snowstorm after drinking alcohol. That's a recipe for disaster.
Since the play off is expanding, It will be fun to have these pretty boys from the south playing a game at night in the big house in December or January with just half an inch of snow to improve the mood.
scared to play purdue on the road at night
This is all crazy to learn. Screw it, lets get a story saying USC and UCLA can still in the Pac-12 because the agreement isn't done. They wouldn't leave, but it would be funny to hear
He was more worried about Covid than sports, which is odd considering that was his job.
His job is also player safety. Nobody knew what COVID was going to be at the time in 2020, and there was many government mandates in the northern states that the southern states didn’t have.
@@brettbeaver103 We could already see the median age of death was older than life expectancy, so there was no reason for healthy 20yr olds to not play sports. Anyone who thought otherwise was paying more attention to propaganda from state media than the data
He was more worried about his resume and bonus. Full stop.
His son was at Miss St. He wanted an all SEC CFP
@@brettbeaver103 well the problem is that the 5 major Conferences had agreed to try and play . Then Warren decided on his own to cancel the season without consulting anyone. You left out that part. He did nothing but try and make himself look good and he failed miserably.
Big 10 Fans: December and January Bowl and Playoff games should be played up north too!
Also Big 10 Fans: No night games after October. It is too cold to play football.
I haven’t heard of a single b10 fan saying they don’t want night games after October.
I’m a Big Ten fan, and I don’t want night games after October 🥶.
Unless, of course, they are playoff games. 😁
As a B10 Fan, I am the cold, I want all the night games after October 😇
We need to use weather to our advantage in the big10. Make everyone else when possible play us in the cold. Make USC play Michigan in November ect. ect.
@@sc100ott your either a troll or not a fan of any nfl team in the Midwest. Imagine if the afc north said they won’t do prime time games anymore. No fan wants that.
I remember going to Indians playoffs games in late OCT in the 90s We would be buying clothes in the stadium store to stay warm because it would be in the teens not counting the wind chill. There is a reason they dont have night games that late in the year.
Kevin Warren is exactly what anyone with a brain knew he was.
Diversity hire.

Couldn’t agree more about Robert California 😂
I'm looking at the guy's resume on Wikipedia, and it's not clear why he got the position of the head of the B10. His entire resume up to that point was as legal council to NFL football teams, he had some experience with NCAA sanctions, and had some exposure to an mid-level executive position at the Vikings and the Lions, but nothing that would equip him as head of the B10.
Diversity-hire who was being groomed to be the 1st black NFL Commisioner. Warren never planned to stay in the BIG, just use it as a steppingstone for his career. This is why Diversity-hires are so problematic, many fail at their jobs due to a lack of merit.
As an Auburn fan, I volunteer as tribute to only allow SEC games at night prior to November. Thank you.
8:43 NEVER FORGET!
What Kevin did to the BIG10 was horrible, but I still can't help but laugh a little every time I hear this story. Do you think this would have any affect on USC and UCLA being a part of the BIG10 TV deal?
He never even finished the TV deal. It probably would've happened sooner under someone else
B1G 10 DOWNFALL💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉
I love Josh’s rant at the end about The Office. I agree Robert should’ve been there in the show much earlier than he was.
Lmao Kevin warren is the man you love to see it
I’m laughing my Big12 A$$ Off 😂😂😂
Most of the time I track with you pretty well on your takes, but this one was way off base. No way would I exchange Charles for Robert.
Im still not a fan of how the tv rights are managed for individual games. Penn States whiteout game has been crippled both last year and this year due to the fox big noon kickoff having the rights to the biggest games of the year. As cool as minnesota and iowa are, it really blows that as penn state has a good shot for the playoff, their signature game is being sidelined for a pointless media rights conundrum.
Realignment stinks
Kevin Warrens Big Ten reign was a crap show
Oh, I’m sure there’s a reason they didn’t just forget to sign the paperwork as much as you would love that I’m sure, maybe they’re gonna add more teams
Most of this is outside my wheelhouse, but I do recall asking what was left of value for the BTN?
Same as before, the low-end games the major networks dont want like Rutgers vs. Maryland or Rutgers vs. Michigan. IU vs Nrthwstrn, etc.
@@calvinhobbes6118 That wasn't my takeaway due to all the different networks and time slots, but maybe.
If I were the Chicago Bears, I would dump this clown immediately. This is a HUGE red flag right when the Bears are trying to move.
“We already released the balloons!”

Fox needs to keep the Big10 ‘ship game. Klatt and Gus call a great game!
Too bad for Lions fans that they got stuck with Gus Johnson and Aqib Talib for several games the past few years
I really appreciate that there is a media mouth who disliked and despised Kevin Warren as much as I did.
Terrible Commissioner off to a terrible NFL team.
Love it ! The money Grabe just blew up !
I mean, what are the chances this falls through? Would be horrible for a man to look like he left on top to actually have left a disaster. I'm skeptical this is anything though.
Never liked what he was up to during COVID let alone the rest of the time.
LOVE the scorching hot Robert California take just stuffed in the end of the video.
For what it's worth I found him perfectly fine, definitely had his moments haha.
Kevin Warren ia the worst!!
Those political hires of unqualified individuals. Nobody want to say it because they are cowards.
Ill say it. Kevin Warren was a Diversity-hire. KW has long had eyes for the NFL Commish's job and "woke-ists" knew this and saw this as an example of being TOLERANT and INCLUSIVE . When in reality, its just not hiring the best person for the job, it is lazy hiring tactics.
If FOX was in the room for all the negotiations, how would they be upset with what’s been announced/agreed to?
It was a spoof. He said "if".
Reading comments concerning player safety I understand, but don't the high school football teams still play on Friday evenings?
High school seasons are over by end of October. Play-off games are rarely at night, and Championship games are usually played in a larger venue, like an NFL stadium.
@@calvinhobbes6118
Thanks for the comment,....now I have to think about the seasons here in Oklahoma, it's been too long since my Son played football....
Night games in November? Weather is hit or miss in all the northern Big 10 states through November. It can be 60 or it can be 15 you just never know. BUT the one thing that happens everywhere is there is at least and the emphasis is on AT LEAST a 10 degree drop from the day time temperatures. The kids (players) are young that probably doesn't bother them but injury is much more likely in cold weather. Muscles tighten, finger and toes go numb, surfaces get frozen and it's just not a good idea.
Usc and ucla can take two of those weeks.
The Robert California season is personally one of my favorite seasons of the Office.
If there was ever a chance for the Big12/Pac12 to merge (Big Pac?)and take the torch for second most influential confrence now is the best time. Idk HOW but if they can somehow stick the landing this szn togethor before the Big 10 things are gonna get interesting
Why would they want any of tge programs left besides Oregon? Maybe Utah and Washingto but even that's a stretch.
The Big Pac Conference (BPC). I like the sound.😎
I like your thinking..and agree! 🫰🏼
Im glad kevin warren is gone , he was terrible
This is absolutely embarrassing for us Big 10 fans 😂
Petitti did jump into a jet plane, but it is in the air, running out of gas, and he is trying to get a runway constructed using land he doesn’t exclusively own and other peoples construction equipment.
Kevin Warren was a disaster. B1G is a waste. TOSU runs the league for themselves.
Kevin Warren worst commissioner of all time. But also big time L for Ohio State and said schools not wanting to play night games late in the year -- more crowd involvement, more homefield advantage, better atmosphere, MUCH harder to win on the road. Go read an article on Urban Meyer complaining about this a few years back if you want to see what top dogs in the Big 10 think of road night games. You don't see that in the SEC. The tides last 4 SEC games, Bama vs Ten away night game (sell out crowd), Bama vs LSU away night game (sell out crowd), and Bama vs Ole Miss (away night game), vs Auburn last game of season is a night game. But yeah 2 of those losses are worse then a 20+ pt home loss or a loss to a 3 loss Kstate 65-7 TCU worst playoff team ever.
I agree with you, but as a B1G fan, look up the average temperatures at night during November in Wisconsin and Michigan (Ohio St. Last 3 games are in these states), vs the temperature at the locations you mentioned. The players can and maybe should play, but having been there on the cold days, it sucks to have to worry about frostbite while watching Football
It’s 80 degrees at night at those games. It’ll be 15 at night in big ten games. That’s the whole stipulation
Greg sankey would never
Get as much money for his schools and have almost all the games on free tv.
If any SEC commissioner ever tried to cancel football season like Warren wanted, there wouldn’t be enough police in Birmingham to protect him from angry fans. He’d be lucky to escape alive. 😂
The Big Cap ..😂😂 That’s all Big Cap fans talk about. The TV contract that doesn’t actually exist..😂😂😂
This guy was a snake 🐍 from the day he was hired
The ACC the BIG12 and the PAC12 should try and and form a super conference
Does this affect USC and UCLA?
no
My bold prediction: the complications in the big 10 deal lead to a breakdown in the deal that somehow retroactively (through a loophole in Maryland’s original contract leaving the ACC) leads to a defcon 5 omega mulligan protocol that breaks the ACCs grant of rights deal, nullifies the 2036 tv deal, and allows the ACC to renegotiate and become the 2nd biggest revenue conference also daisy chaining into miami winning the 2025 national championship.

Even if the a c c negotiated their deal they still wouldn't be the second highest revenue generating conference.
Thats not bold, that is just a bad prediction.
FSU fan here. I speak for FSU and Clemson: let us in the Big 10 and we'll play every single one of those games...just us and Clemson. We'll play each other 12 times. Just let us in.
You ready for night games in November in Michigan where it reaches below 32 degrees? I seriously doubt you could handle that.
Does he have any potential legal issue because of some of this? Or was it never actually completed?
Quick question…is that 40 million per college? Or spread out? Surely it’s not the former…surely.
For that amount of money, they'll get in line!
Wait the big 10 schools don’t want prime time games ???
Not in the later months cause of the cold weather. Gets way too cold
Would you want to play in Wisconsin in November and minus 20 degrees ?
@@Mike-vw8kklol Madison doesn’t get that cold in November. Average is still like 45 above then with lows of 25. Really temperature is not a factor during the regular season.

I thought the B1G network owned the media rights to the conference.
You don’t think the 14 schools in the big ten can pay the 40 million between themselves? That’s less than 3 million each that’s not too much for them and they all have a ton of money.
Who cares everyone knows the best footballs played in the SEC not the tiny 10
BIG schools bring in more money. Ohio State was #1 in viewership last year, Michigan a very close #2. No SEC school came close. As far as America is concerned, the BIG is where the action is at in terms of interest, and will increase once USC and UCLA come in. That is why the BIG contracts are worth such a huge amount of money.
@@eddihaskell Alabama was a very close second Ohio State was number one in the top 10 there are four SEC schools 5 if you count Clemson because they are in a southern state

Big 10 is so mid anyways, sec the only conference that matters
I thought Midwest weather was great. Many are saying Pacific Northwest weather are bad and it always rain. 😂😂😂😂 the truth is coming together. West coast always play football after darks and PrimeTime. No complaints. Suddenly it becomes a factor for BIG10 😂😂😂😂
Do you understand ANYTHING about temperature? Anything at all you poorly educated and ignorant Left Coaster? There is a reason high school football ends by the end of October in the Midwest.

the big 3 of the B1G will be in that super conference with the other big $$$ programs out there LOL
HaHaHa!!!😂 Sorry not SORRY‼️‼️
LOL… unbelievable 😮
Those programs lame af…who wouldn’t wanna play in prime time late in the season
If the SEC and ACC want to come up to the Big House for a November night game then bring it on. But they won't because those conferences are scared to come up and play in the cold so don't f****** dare try to act like the big 10. Not playing night games when it's below freezing is some kind of big deal. Home and home series every year with the Southern teams for the prime time games
Pitt and BC are in the north (Syracuse has a Dome like a smart school should).
You’re misinterpreting… long form…not a huge deal… psu and michigan will fall in line! You will play night games going forward I guarantee you!
That's why you don't hire somebody because of the color of their skin.
Black people benefit LEAST from affirmative action. Just look around in most cooperate businesses and see the lack of black people in white collar positions. I've been in engineering for almost 10 years for 3 different companies and I can tell you black people are a rarity in engineering, project management, and C-suite roles. This is true in the trade shows and conferences I have attended. Other groups of people have benefited tremendously. So on that backdrop...sure I support getting rid of affirmative action.
Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State can get over themselves about playing these night games in November, and I say this as a PSU fan.
It isn't like they would be playing them every week in November.
The average low in November for State College is 34 degrees. There’s no way I’m sitting in that for a game. That’s why the conference doesn’t play at night. The colleges set themselves up to lose revenue at the game

Oh hell no. The Game in A2 after Thanksgiving? More often than not it'll be 20 degrees. Not only will most of the ticket holders not go, the student section will be half empty and none of the players will appreciate it. Player safety does not mesh with a football that gets harder as it gets colder.

Don't see how. USC and UCLA are not coming back even in this situation, and that's the only thing that can save them. The B1G will work this out. Won't be as great as it was originally presented, but still heads and shoulders above the ACC, Big 12, and especially the Pac.
