Here's why people say it. It's because the talent disparity us not all that different between SEC schools (unless your Vandy). In the Big12 outside of OU and Texas you you might get 1 team in the top 25 in terms of incoming talent. A top 25 class would be the best class ever at places like KSt, Iowa St, Kansas, Baylor, TCU etc. In the SEC a top 25 class nationally is like #12 in the SEC.

OU fan here, and i agree we won't be back of the bus, I agree there will be an adjustment period as we get used to competitive competition on a more weekly basis. Something I think that isn't getting addressed is that the rest of the SEC will actually begin playing tougher schedules, too. How many years has Ga and AL had easier schedules with really only 1, maybe 2 tough games and 4 cupcake OOC. I mean, has GA even played AL more than once in regular season in 10 years? No more, the rotation for all schools will be tougher it will be fun. To me, it's more like early 2000 big 12 competition and I am here for it!

For years some of Texas’ best high school talent left Texas to go play for a Bama, Florida, Georgia or LSU in the SEC because they wanted to play in the SEC.
Now, that OU and Texas are joining the SEC, I think it helps Texas keep more of their HS talent in the state while getting more out of state kids interested in an OU and Texas.
So I think it helps both OU and Texas who already recruit at a high level improve recruiting even more. OU and Texas belong for sure in the SEC.
OU had a subpar year this year but as a Texas fan, I know they’ll be right in the hunt challenging the best of the SEC for conference championships soon.

You are right, that is the WHOLE reason Texas and OU jumped to the SEC. It wasn't about money, hell Texas has enough money to buy the SEC schools (compare the endowments, Texas is 68 billion to Alabama's ONE billion dollars). It was about them losing the recruiting battle to the Aggies and the out of state schools taking the prime talent elsewhere.

They are top 10 historical programs with massive passionate fan bases and rivers of cash flowing through, as long as they have competent coaches they will be anywhere from good to great. Some SEC Fans seem to be a little bit confused. The reality is this: With Texas and OU coming in, it eliminates the two Divisions (West and East) SO THAT NOW, every current SEC Team's schedule is more difficult. UGA will have a more difficult schedule as will Bama. Look at Florida's schedule - they go from having a relative easy schedule in The East to now having a very difficult slate of Games. Every SEC Team today will have a much more difficult schedule, not to mention that their Away Schedule just got more difficult. Texas and OU are going to be just fine while some current teams in The SEC will regress. Pate's analogy to "the seat on the bus" is spot on!!!

There are teams in the SEC now who don't compete at the highest level each year for a variety of reasons. They will chant SEC and they're right. The SEC is, and has always been the best NCAAF conference hands down bar none. But, to make the assertion that nobody else from any other conference can come in and compete at the top is ludicrous. And, I see a lot of they'll be at the top right behind Georgia and Alabama. That's a bit presumptious as well. I'm not saying we will beat them every time, but they're not gonna come in and drop a number on us. And they will lose their share to us. Everyone's misjudging this transition. It's not which single SEC team on the schedule are they most unequipped for. They're equipped for all of them actually. On the contrary, it's the war of attrition they'll need to prepare for. It's not who's going to get them first. It's how long can they maintain it until they empty their clips and realize there's still more games left to play.
The transition is going to be about depth and pacing. You can sleepwalk 8 weeks out of the year in the Big 12 and still leave with a win. Their capacity to manage their load is what they need to be training for, not who's going to be their first conference opponent loss.

I've never understood how people can be so devoted to a conference. A conference. Teams? Sure. But, a conference? They don't even bother with any team outside of their little conference bubble. I know one SEC guy that refers to Ohio State as Ohio. He doesn't do it as an insult, but because he doesn't know any better....or care. He honestly believes a 6-6, 7-5 SEC team should be in the playoffs over a one loss or undefeated champions from other conferences. He's hardly the only one. It's ridiculous.

You are absolutely correct, Josh. However, the difference is in this conference, if you take a day off, you will usually get beat. It’s not like the Big 12 in that respect.

Oklahoma will have a tougher time of it, just off of conference schedule. That being said, both should still finish in the top 5 or 6 at year's end.

Josh nails it at 5:00. There *will* be an adjustment period as those 2 great programs have to play Mississippi, Kentucky and Tennessee instead of Texas Tech, Baylor and West Virginia. That is the truth the SEC fans are right about, but clearly a lot of those fans are taking it too far - the Horns and Sooners are NOT going to get squished.
But part of this, Josh, is many Sooners and Horns think they WILL just waltz in and cruise - that they will not do. Win? Yes, absolutely. But even Alabama has to work to win the SEC and while the Horns and Sooners are above 2/3rds of the SEC, they ain't Bama or Georgia.
That being said, the only difference is what Josh says at 5:15. All they lack is experience playing an SEC schedule. They will adapt. LSU, Mississippi, Florida, Texas A&M and anyone else who wants to stay on Bama's tail - clock is ticking and it might take 2 years, maybe 3, but no longer than that.

Lol OU just beat them....what?? Oklahoma beat 2 conference champs and the only team outside the top 4 that has beat a playoff team. They lost their 2 games at the last second by a combined 8 points. Lebby caused those losses and he's gone. They are recruiting with the best the SEC had to offer the last 3 cycles.....why can Texas suck for 15 years and gets put in Bama level status the second they have one goid year. Oklahoma has been in that level for 20 years but the second Lincoln left OU gets zero respect. Even aftwr Riley showed everyone hes a fraud they still look down on Oklahoma.

@@TheBenzwanger Slow down there Cowboy! You make some good points, most of which I agree with. However, when you point out the fact that OU lost two games in the last seconds - lets also then say that Texas lost to OU with 1:30 left on the clock due to OU driving 75 yards to score a TD to win. All while Texas played the game with a 3rd string center and banged up in many positions forcing 2nd and 3rd stringers in play. Oh, that Texas lost was on a Neutral Field in a Terrific Rivalry, where anything can happen. Anything!!! As witnessed the last 20 years. While OU incurred a loss at Home. OU is going to be fine in The SEC. Texas is also. Stay Humble!!!

🤣 OU is gonna be just fine. The ‘Blue Bloods‘ ALL go through cycles of ups and downs. (And I think OU has THE best record of making those ‘down cycles‘ the shortest AND shallowest.) 🤘

I think the SEC grind will wear on both teams. OU and UT have seen quality teams with their schedules, however, i don't think they will be used to the week in and week out quality they will see in the SEC. Might take a couple of seasons to fully adjust.

As a OU fan born and raised in Oklahoma, I believe that we’ll do just fine in the SEC. Currently, I have lived in Georgia for 25yrs, and I’ll give the SEC their props!! However, what I don’t like is when SEC fans think that their Conference is greatest in CFB. I’m 53yrs old and I remember back then the SEC was not all that!! Also, if you look at the migration of people moving to Georgia after the Olympics has a lot to do with the SEC growing into what they are today. Plus, the Cost of Living (Housing) was much better down here as opposed to the North!!
