    Impressive! I was watching the installation of the chip and it just kept going... and going... and going. That's one involved installation but the end result speaks for itself. Very nice video and a great console ready to play.

      Thanks Rik. Started it back in early January but with delays & missteps, only finished it last week. Got there in the end, Fingers crossed, next project goes smoother :) .

    Nice video man! What advantage does the mod chip give over a freemcboot setup?
    Is it worth the extra effort?
    I put an aladdin modchip in 4x og xboxes I had lying around for no other reason than "why not" plus they are cheap and simple to install. But this ps2 modchip though looks a pain to install.

      TBH, I don't think there is any advantage to going with a mod chip over freemcboot. Unless your a soldering geek there's nothing to be gained by going with a hardware mod. Software modding is easier and gets you the same results in way less time.

    Wow! That is some impressive weaving! Pleasure to watch. What a lovely tidy job. That first console was making me itchy. Probably for the best to get rid of it lol.

      Really enjoyed working on it. It's been getting allot of use since. A larger capacity SSD wouldn't be a bad idea. Might upgrade it in the future.

    Does fhis require a USB stick to be in the PS2? Or is everything on the HDD?

    Hi, have you seen the latest mods for slim recently?. You can now install micro sd card or m.2 ssd install by removing the laser.
    Just curious if you follow-up since this posted video?. Great job on the installation.
    I have both phat plus the slim. Love them both.

      I've checked out Macho Nacho's video on the PS2, some really cool projects. ModzvilleUSA also has a really cool video on the M.2 SSD. I still wonder about the original bus speed of the PS2. It's already saturated with the standard SATA SSD. The M.2 mod is cool but I don't know if it's going be any faster.
      Sold my slim sadly but still have my phat. Just upgraded the drive to a 500GB (was 128gb). Also went ahead and updated to the latest OPL and created some graphics for the modbo5 boot menu. Have them on my google drive, if interested can share a link.
      I was thinking of doing a quick video on it, as allot of the system files knocking around for the Modbo 5 are old and would be cool to share the newer ones.
      Have a SEGA CD project in the works. Just waiting on all the parts to arrive but looking to doing more PlaySTation stuff again soon.

      @GameTechRefuge thanks for the follow-up. Would be awesome if you do a video on the modbo5 update video. As for the m.2, it is super cheaper compared to the price and space of the microsd card.
      I recently updated to a modbo5 and removed a messiah chip I had installed on my phat model, like 20 years plus and running a 2tb mechanical drive with it. Also, I installed the modbo5 on my slim and soon will install the m.2 drive .
      I love modzvilleusa, seen his channel for awhile. I saw his updated stuff with the new Xbox stellar chip. I am working with that as well. Great stuff. He's a true hard-core modder. Nacho is good, but the true guy is modzvilleUSA !!! Thanks 👍

    Loved it Dermot, It's a shame about the first PS2 dying on you. I have one of those knock-off Game-Star HDD Adapters in my PS2, Its got a 500GB HDD with well over 100+ games. It works very well I just have no LAN connection.

    • @GameTechRefuge
      @GameTechRefuge  2 роки тому

      Sweet, thanks Four X. I very nearly went with a Game Star one. Knowing my luck, it wouldn't have worked with my particular SSD. What could go wrong did with this one :) You're not really missing much with the LAN port. I'm too lazy to set up the networking and besides, 500GB is loads. I've max out at 32 games on the 120, think that will be the next upgrade.

      @@GameTechRefugedo u have stutter while playing GOW 1 & 2?

  • @middle_pickup

    I set up my hard drive with a ton of games a few years ago. I only realized afterward how much of a pain it would be to have to do all this over again. Is there some way to clone the drive so I have a backup? It's formatted in a special way, isn't it? I have terrible luck with hard drives, and I'm considering using OPL's LAN feature to host my games from a samba share eventually since that will be much easier to backup safely. That being said, I do enjoy having the whole system loaded on a local drive. Cloning would be really handy.

    • @GameTechRefuge
      @GameTechRefuge  2 роки тому

      True. Cloning would be handy. I don't know of any tools that would be able to read the partitions under windows. Might be worth looking into Linux. Some drive recovery software tools might be able to do. I know some of the ones created by the drive manufacturers, where especially good at cloning in the past but that was in the HDD spinning platter days. Not sure when it comes to SSDs. Linux might be the best shot. Will need more investigation.

    do u have a issue on playing god of war 1 & 2? like stutter? audio issue?

    • @GameTechRefuge
      @GameTechRefuge  Рік тому

      Hi. I've not tried GOW 1 or 2. Not the biggest fan of those games tbh. Not had any trouble with stutter in any of the games I've played on the Fat PS2. Only time I've had any trouble with stutter is playing games over USB on slim consoles. Hence the reason I went with this fat model. Hope that helps.

    Love you mod, very tide work.
    I got mcboot installed on one of my memory cards, couldn't figure how to use it, is there a trick?

    • @GameTechRefuge
      @GameTechRefuge  11 місяців тому

      I'm not sure how to use McBoot TBH. It should be relatively easy enough. I'd make sure it's in memory card slot one but other than that I don't know. I think ModernVintageGamer MVG has done a few vids on it. There should be others too here on YT. Hope it all works out for you and happy gaming.

    How's this model SSD performing? Any lag or freeze?

    • @GameTechRefuge
      @GameTechRefuge  Рік тому

      No lag or freeze been working great. I perhaps should have gone with a slightly higher capacity but performance wise it great.

    Does the SSD give any speed increase over a hard drive?

    • @GameTechRefuge
      @GameTechRefuge  2 роки тому

      I imagine the SSD reduces the seek-time associated with HDDs. Both would be saturating the bus.
      So the gains over a HDD is marginal. Convenience and transfer speeds when you want to update and add games is the major advantage of older mechanical drives.

      There is an Emulator the you can install. POPs emulator. I've not tried it on the PS2 FAT but it apparently runs well.

      1.1. The latest should be good. I think the PSX POPS emulator may have issues but it works great for everything else.
