The first spray can like that I remember using was from Sure Shot. We got it from the Zep salesman. Then my Matco Tool dealer started selling them too. These Maddox brand sprayers from Harbor Freight work exactly the same. I fill each with a different solvent or fluid that I can purchase in bulk, like brake cleaner or WD40.

A couple things come to mind. One, it seems overly large, and it's unclear if it has a rigid siphon. Two, you need a dry air source, or other gas mix. Three, it's not a certified container, so you have a tiny bit of liability if there is an accident while crossing state lines.

Honestly, I wouldn't store it under pressure here in Florida, even just out in the shed. It seems like a rather large inconvenience to have to pressurize it, then bleed the pressure off every time I want to use it. For myself, I can't think off a use case where this would be useful. Maybe one that allows me to manually pump it a few times, similar to the big plastic one you use for weed killer.

@@1D10CRACY I have an original MSDS from when they had to list the ingredients with percentage ranges. it doesn't list all those things. Kerosene is the water displacement component. You are prolly too young to remember - - When in the 50s and 60s and 70s And prolly the 40s and 30s too the wires for the spark plugs in a car would crack fairly quickly with age. The filth from the road contained a lot of mineral dust. So the wires would leak electricity preventing the engine from starting. Open the hood at night and turn the key and it was a wild ass light show of sparks and rivers of glowing energy all over the place. We'd just toss a cup of Kero on the wires and the car would start just fine. The kero displaces water.

Eh. Why not just use a spray bottle. They always work, have adjustable spray patterns with no pins to lose, and don’t need to be constantly refilled with air nor will they leak air and be empty when needed most. I’ve always used WD40 spray bottles as well as other chemically rated spray bottles that don’t degrade from chemical usage. Seems to have a similar spray pattern and work great on WD40, etc which I buy in the gallon size as well. Cheaper too. I’ve even sprayed aggressive chemicals like acetone in those chemical spray bottles and it worked great with long life too. Maybe I’m missing something here??? Why?

Seriously, try the spray bottles actually made by WD40. I think I bought mine at tractor supply or maybe northern tool years ago. They work well, never had a problem with them unless you drop them and they crack. The bottles I have in service now have been in service for years. Otherwise, try the RADNOR brand chemical spray bottles at Home Depot. Think those are USA made too. I use those for less aggressive chemicals but they work great too. I understand the advantage of not have to pump a handle, but it’s not like you’re painting and need uninterrupted flow here. I spray WD40, light oil, penetrating oil, plus cleaners and degreasers even ATF and acetone. I actually use one to spray cutting fluid as well. Work great and cheap, great convenience factor. Just need the right bottle, not a common one that degrades with chemicals or oils. I think the issue is most people don’t use rated sprayers and expect magical results. Use the right sprayer!

Needed a large quantity of PB blaster recently so I bought a gallon from local farm store, came with a spray bottle…..cool. I filled the bottle, don’t remember overfilling, came out next day and found fluid drooling out the nozzle. Twisted nozzle to closed. Will see how it operates after more fluid has been used……..long story short, these pressurized cans are great! have used them for years when I was in the dealership.

In small amounts, maybe. The Schrader seems a lot better than pumping, but I wonder how many times I'd have to pressurize it while spraying my house's foundation.

Most of those are for solvents only, not water based liquids. They have to specify they can handle both or they can rust and explode.

If it is like a SureShot sprayer you should also mention that water based fluids are not to be used with it. Also like a SureShot is that the containment vessel itself is painted inside, so if you use a solvent that thins or removes paint such as lacquer thinner (the world’s finest crud cutter I might add paint, grease, adhesives, tar, gum. School custodians love me!) the solvent will dissolve the interior paint and it takes awhile for the color to go away in your sprayed medium and sometimes becomes too thick to be sprayed and you end up dumping the contents out. It takes awhile to end up with a paint free interior. And before you get the idea, no, you cannot spray anything viscous like paint. My biggest complaint about these is that a flat was not formed where the fill opening is located and thus you are trying to seal on a radius. To overcome this the Sure Shots use a delrin plastic, washer that fits into a recess machined into the underside of the fill plug. The washer easily falls out of its recess when the plug is removed and can get lost if you are not watching for it. In order for the plastic washer to do its job the fill plug has to be screwed in tight or sitting on the shelf it loses pressure over time which is VERY FRUSTRATING when you go to use it next time to say the least!

If you really want to save money... Use ATF instead of the PB junk. And use gasoline when you need a good solvent.

Half ATF and half Acetone makes a great penetrant as well! (But I will still use PB blaster in a pinch!)

@@mprooveit3588 Those brake cleaner cans actually have more pressure in them than these refillable spray cans are designed for, and from what I've heard and read these refillable spray cans don't maintain enough pressure long enough to use up the contents of the can....so you end up refilling it several times with air....and unless you are working in a shop with an air system that's always ready to go, it makes no sense for the regular homeowner, who'd need to plug in their air compressor, wait for it to build pressure, and then fill the can LOL.
My HF has been out of those refillable cans for months...and for $40, I got 2 different brand ones that are closer in size to a regular aerosol spray can, and have yet to use them LOL.

@@mprooveit3588 How do you think spray cans work? They are under constant pressure. Its somewhere around 100 psi or a little more. What might be the issue is the can metal might be very thin and too weak to have a valve placed in it. The bottom or the top might be thicker, but I still don't know if its strong enough / I never looked into this.

    • @LygerTheCLaw

brakleen cans are made for pressure, that's why they're in rolled steel cans. just try to limit the pressure to 50psi or less, even though they should technically be able to handle a bit more. basically those disposable cans can be reused, we just typically don't see them as such.
our shop used cans exactly like the ones in this video, they almost never spray correctly and would dribble a constant stream right from the tip no matter how much adjusting and fiddling i would do to them. half mist, half waterfall of wasted fluid. they would work right for about 2 full cans and then always would begin to not spray correctly after that, like the nozzle seals would deform.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, but I'm guessing you are asking what wd40 is good for? It's very useful as a cleaner, it's great for getting stickers, glue and grease off of items. It works as a thin lubricant. And it excels at displacing water, what it was originally designed for. It gets a bad rap because people try to use it as a rust penetrant. If you look at a can today, it never brags to be a penetrant, it just says it helps loosen sticky parts. My go to for penetrating fluid is Kroil, or PB Blaster (Original). Hopefully this helps!
