Bro. I'm a black, husband, dad, trucker, n i appreciate yo honesty! I'm also from the country, north east Marshall,Texas. I 2 think of buying a cat n living on the high seas. Keep up the awesome work!
The mindset for people to treat their bosses like they are your client and think of themselves as their own boss is genius. Well said. You have a new subscriber.
Love it. One of my previous bosses sold her very successful restaurant at age 75. She didn't actually make much on the sale, she had leased the restaurant and 20 year lease ran out. But she had saved her money and worked about 80+ hours a week. She had worked her butt off her whole life and was a widow. She met a really nice guy with his own money and a nice Trimaran a d his own house. She bought a 50 ft catamaran and sails all over the Caribbean Florida and Bahamas now. Their boats are tied up at the dock behind his house during hurricane season. She was the best boss I've ever had and I'm happy for her. I went to work every day to do the best job I possibly could for her and anything I could do to make thins run smoother for her I did. And she paid me well. I was 10-30 years older than most of her employees and she would put new employees with me and tell them "if you can keep up with that old overweight guy, I'll be impressed" By the end of the day they were crying like babies, while I wax running around at losing time with a smile on my face.
It's a powerful set of words. Similar to Dave Ramsey who helps people learn about money and debt. He says to get out of debt and to save to live the life you want, you need to "Live like no one else so that someday, you can live like no one else."
Dave Ramsey says “ live like no one lives, so you can live like no one lives”. He teaches Financial Peace University and has a radio show. Keith, you are an inspiration, and you give excellent advice. People want to have it all and buy the big house, big car/truck, boat, etc and having all these payments robs them of a great financial future. Your kids will do well in life because of your philosophy. I’ll never be able to sail, ( but I have Disability issues) and I can do it vicariously through you guys. Love your videos. Thanks.
You had a very successful business in a high paying field of work. That and the fact you lived a modest lifestyle and worked for a goal got you in the place you are. You offer great advice for everyone here but we need to keep a little perspective. The average joe would have to live in a tent and ride a bicycle to work and not have kids to be able to save a large amount of money in today's world. I am glad your hard work paid out for you. My wife and I started a business 13 years ago in the healthcare field and put everything we had into it. It has bleed us dry and if we had never started it we would have been able to retire many years ago . We both had high paying jobs and saved a lot of cash that has since been run through so it takes more than hard work and saving to get places. A little luck is also required.
No one should have to explain where their money comes from, but I'm glad you did, because it shows that hard work and being frugal can provide great outcomes! I wish nothing but love and happiness for you and your family, but it already looks like you and your family already have that. I mainly wanted to let you all know that your videos are really inspiring!! Safe travels!!!
"Quit talking about your boss like he's the enemy or the devil." That statement should be required memorization and study for every school and college in the country!
@@charonstyxferryman I agree with that. I certainly am not implying that a boss is beyond reproach and I've had supervisors like that myself. However, some people tend to do nothing but speak ill of a supervisor or boss because they feel as if they are owed something, they are not! They tend to complain more and wok less.
Kerry Young same, retired at 55. Living the RV dream for past 2 years after selling up in the city. I don’t miss working for corporate at all, even though it was fun traveling the world I saw more hotels than countryside. Freedom is great and no one has any idea how long they may have left on top of the ground/sea. Live life to the full
Hey Keith, I find it hard to believe that you were ever around very many people smarter than you. You do what you do very well and you understand life far better than most.
We love it when our favorite travel bloggers and UA-camrs do videos like this one. You guys rock! Paying off debt and saving money is so difficult and takes a lot of discipline. We constantly return to videos like this one to remind us WHY we are making the choices we are making. Thanks for posting this! Love, Terri
This might be my favorite video to date! Keith, you almost described my life as well, I too dug ditches and did directional drilling. The one difference, I was selling the equipment to dig those ditches and drill those holes. I started working with my Dad as a young boy, when my Dad bought a used trencher and had a trenching service during the Summer and on Weekends when he was out of school. (He was a teacher) That led to becoming a Ditch Witch Dealer in Amarillo and then in North Carolina. I retired after 48 years in the Ditch Witch Business. (I’m 64) As for your money talk, this V-Log should be required watching for every person coming out of a High School and College. And should be required follow up afterwards throughout life. I just wish I had heard this when I was younger, I did good, I live well and have financial security, but, oh what I could have had! Great job Keith and great job Renee with the pop ups! And great work on your editing. At least now I know why I have a connection to you guys and enjoy watching Zatara! 👍
I know this video is four years old, but I just discovered your channel and have been working my way through your videos. It amazes me how fast people are to judge and speculate. I was curious as well as to how you guys afford your lifestyle, but at the end of the day it’s not my business, and it’s certainly not not anyone’s place to assume anything. I appreciate your willingness to share, and to provide a great mix of education and entertainment, which satisfies my sailing curiosity itch. Thank you!
Best career advice ever! My first boss told me the same thing: “You and I have a contract that we both renew on the 1st and 15th of each month, let’s work to make each other successful “
Just yesterday I have talked with my coleague (a person that I pay monthly and am supposed to call an employee, but it it is offensive for me to call him that) and asked him if he is happy. He said that there is nothing he would change and that he is grateful for the job. What I told him is that I am grateful that we can share work together and grow together because he can share his youth and enthusiasm and I can share experience and knowledge. And yesterday we have had a celebration for his new working papers, better working conditions, less hours so he can spend more time with his wife (they are expecting soon ❤️). He booked more work, worked harder than ever, stayed after hours on his own, and had a smile on his face. So did I. And so I can save more, work more, earn more and get close to my dream sooner. Respecting the people that work with you helps both sides ❤️
Well said. I changed my attitude and direction using a simple statement. When asked "Who I work for", my answer became "ME" This allowed me to set up a different lifestyle and I became a lot happier with where I was and now where I am. I do have a boat, a reasonable size for our needs and enjoy getting out. Life is what we make of it. If it is cars and houses, so be it, if it is boating and cruising, great!! So enjoy your freedom, You made it happen! PAH
exactly, I have no house payment, or car payment, no credit card payment(s) at all. I live very comfortably and am able to do what I like to do. Save and invest wisely!!! When that retirement age comes and you are able to go for it there is no better feeling!!! My parents taught me well and set the example!!! Keith, you are very correct!!
Actually it’s nobody’s business where you got your money, but people just get curious because they dream of a nice life and wonder how people do it. But you did, starting a business and then selling it and having money to buy that boat and probably a nice amount left over is such a beautiful thing to do with your family. To me it’s the most beautiful thing in the world to spend thatTime with your kids and have fun in life
You actually do very good videos. They are natural. You do not abuse the gadgets. You are very talented. Probably you didn’t even know before you started this adventure that you had these talents.
Love this!! I was listening to a radio station on my way from Lawton to OKC. A pasted/motivational speaker was on. He said, “if you’re the smartest one in your group, it’s time to find a different group. The new group of people you surround yourself with, you can now learn even more.” Similar to how you live. 💪🔥💯😊
Thanks for that mate, I've shared it with my boys, with the caption "Boys, this is probably everything u need to know about money, and working, please watch it, its 8 minutes long you can at least concentrate for that amount of time." really enjoying watching the vids, keep up the good work. Boys are 19 and 17 just getting ready to take on the world.
Keith, it's hilarious that people watching your vlogs for free on a public forum seem to take joy putting you on the mat explaining why you have what you have. Wellllp, You don't have to answer to anyone else....you're family is the only people that need to know. Just keep on sailing and vlogging.....people...crazy.
7 years and 4 months till our push off date. My wife and I are super excited to get out there and see the world. We are saving 70% of our income and will be where we need to be financially in just a couple years. Your family has been an inspiration. Thank you for staying humble about your finances. It has added a lot of clarity and encouragement to our goal.
Living the same philosophy. I'm a MSgt in the US Air Force. The wife and I plan to be on the water in six years (Retiring from the military at 42) we have followed the exact same philosophy just a few years behind you and it is possible. Keep up the good work.
"I'm not gonna work for the American Dream because it's BS to me! I'm gonna work for my freedom and so I can do the things I wanna do." Word. Great perspective. "Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do." It makes it way cooler that you saved up to do this and earned it through honest work. Good for you.
He living the America dream because of this country. He sounds like a idiot talking bad about what made him a lot of money so much so he bought a million dollar boat he living the America dream
I believe he was referring to the American dream in its most commonly used sence. The house, car, 2.3 kids, and Thanksgiving at grandma's every fall. He wasn't shitting on the country, just the supposed path everybody is herded down. He did well because he's a likeable guy, he talks with confidence and intensity, and has the skills to keep his word and commitments.
Jacob Lapoint Am heard other things he has said to make me believe something else. And he did do all of that before he did this. Did you see the house he live it before this boat. And am sure he wasn’t driving a ford cruse around. And you know nothing about him just like I don’t. He shows you what he wants just like all of these channels. I didn’t hear him say any of what you think he meant I can just go by what he said and not just on this video. He talk his political views before this about this country. Sounded like he wanted to get out away from it. He sounds angry to me and I don’t get why.
@@ratj4715 I think he is conservative minded politically, as am I. Which probably assimilates to why his views and beliefs don't bother me, and why I don't see anything wrong with what he said. I don't care how big the neighbors house is, and I don't care how hot the neighbors wife is, and I don't care how big his bank account is. I care about what I want out of life and what I have to do to get where I want to be. Taking calculated risks is part of it, sometimes it pays off and alot of times it doesn't. People tend to overestimate thier abilities, and underestimate everyone else's. That mindset will just make you bitter and fail at your goals more oftenthan not.. Staying within your means applies to everyone in all aspects of life not just financially but socially, physically, and mentally (except our worthless government). You'll make it a lot further in life once you learn that you are 100% responsible for you. Its nobody else's fault that you can't afford a catamaran or whatever lifestyle you want, and its not mine or Keith's either. If you're in a dead end job with no hope of the financial future you want downsize your life and expenses. Learn to do something that will get you where you want to be financially, and then put in the actual work required to become one of the best at whatever it is you decide to do. Half assed effort will net you a half assed life. Hard work and dedication, and determination won't guarantee you a successful future, but it will greatly increase your chances. Sitting around blaming your parents, your race, your boss, your wife, and whoever else is just telling everyone that you can't mentally overcome the setbacks life deals all of us. Unless you're phisically or mentally disabled there is no reason you can't have what he has or more if you want it granted you've got the stones to get the work done, and the ability to nurture and build relationships with people who can help you get there.
Jacob Lapoint He can think what he wants but than don’t flash the flag around like you care because you don’t. And he did owed that mansion and he did have kids he live the American dream this country made that possible for him. Too many people in this country are angry with it and I don’t understand that way of thinking it what you make of it. So many people want this country to burn to the ground and to me that pretty sad way to live life. Their is no where else I rather be but in this country. And these are the same people telling others to leave it.
Smart man. It took me way to long to figure out how to be financially responsible. We began our debt free journey about a year ago. My parents never talked about money or more importantly about the value of saving. We’re not making the same mistakes with our kids. It’s awesome to see you living your real dream, not working your life away just to keep to keep up with the Joneses
I’ve watched all your videos but this is the first one I’m commenting on. Amazing video! Thank you for sharing and being so open! I know people who touch seven-figures a year and have nothing. I also know people who’ve never made more than 80k with millions. It’s all about priorities. Money gives you freedom.
It can give one freedom, when one handles money and the responsibility it brings - at any end of the spectrum. I am not sure if or how safe banks are these days. The odd thing about the banking systems is that for some reason they keep printing debt. They have to do this, because once they stop, the show is over and then we see a crash - though we might be in a slow economic "crash" at the moment, it may rapidly accelerate if Italy goes down or even just one bank, like Deutsche bank, goes down. They will likely try to hide DB's losses for a few more months (lets say 9 to 24), with its merger to another imploding bank - yeah!? Credit Unions may be slightly safer, though they are dealing under the same system - for the most part.
drx1 xym I have been retired for all most 13 years now I bought currency in other countries that the dollar was greater when I saw a profit I did an exchange rate and laughed another thing I did was buy property in other countries very very cheap and resold the property later for 300 times more but you need to study different countries constantly and especially the pattern how the country goes on the chart I am still learning with houses around the world and property just remember property never goes down in value
As someone who has now been separated from my ex-wife for a year, with a year to go before being able to divorce (laws here in NZ), I'm now sharing custody of our 4 kids. I'm currently paying through my nose for rent and other living expenses... your maxim of 'do what you have to so you can do what you want to' has come at just the right time, thanks Keith. Now that seed will grow in my mind.
I might also add that it’s great to see folks like me who are successful and have no education beyond high school. My wife and I are non college graduates and while we don’t (yet) live this lifestyle it is inspiring to know it’s possible.
From a guy that's a whole lot older than you are, you hit the nail on the head. If I had saved all of the money I wasted on fast women and fancy cars I'd have been able to retire at 50 instead of 60 or so. Not that I regret it all, I had some good times but this is much, much better. Keep the good stuff coming.
We have two Mercedes.. Both 1999. One SLK 230 and the other CLK320. They run great. Have no intention of getting rid of them anytime soon. I was homeless growing up as a child. Left home at age 11. Became a ward of the state at age 13 and ran away from the Youth Shelter and lived in a Rock Island Box car until I was 22. I have a book called "Estoppels" biography. Money goes to helping homeless shelters. I don't keep a dime. Took my GED and went to college. Today I own a software company, hold over 150 patents globally and have products manufactured in 5 countries and sold in 77. Just granted a new patent last week. My wife and I are retiring in 5 years and buying a 60' Catamaran so you're an inspiration to me. You live the life I wanted.
Kieth, I give you credit for working hard, saving and living your dream. That IS the American dream. Congratulations, you made it. I admire you. I am not a hater, but, when you mourn about what hard work editing is, I have to call you out on behalf of the farmers, ranchers, carpenters, bricklayers, miners, horizontal drillers and all those who labor to produce something that is essential to other people rather than pursue their own selfish interests and brag about it on UA-cam. Ask the workers who built your catamaran and all its components if they think video editing is hard work. Fair winds and following seas my friend.
Good to see someone my age who had the same problem as I've it now. This inspires me to follow my old dream and just doing it. Thanks for this insight.
Keith, great GREAT comments. Thank you for sharing them. By the way, my wife and I are new to your channel, but were huge fans already. Can't wait to see where you go in the Med. Also interested in how sailing and harboring are different or unique in the Med. When I was young (in high school) a group of us sailed around Greece, Turkey, Malta, and Italy for 2 summers. Best time of my life and I LOVE the sailing life. However, my wife doesn't have sailing in her blood, she's definitely not a fan of monohull living, bu she is an adventurous traveler and willing to try sailing. I think the cat is my solution to get her 'on board' with an experience like yours. Can't wait to see more, and see how cat sailing/living are different.
Finally found a sailing UA-cam channel I can relate to. I enjoy looking at bikini-clad ladies as much as the next fella, but some straight talk from another man in my stage of life is golden. "We've got a big family, we eat a lot." Good stuff Keith. I look forward to your other videos.
I don't find anything wrong if you earn money by your videos. Now many people earn money through youtube. so why don't you guys get monetize and earn some money from it and get better travel life. I appreciate you guys. Love you. Love on behalf of my country, Bangladesh.
Keith, Renee & Family - I just learned about you today via a story on the news. And, I've been watching your fantastic videos all day!!! Keith, your video here is so full of wisdom - I am sending to my husband and our 4 young adult kids! You've created a road map of success with many morals and scruples that folks their age group need to hear and learn! I wish someone had taught us this when we were in our youth some 40 years ago! Safe travels and God bless each of you always! Sincerely, Mrs. Meggie Ulrich ⛵💖🥰🙏✝️🥰💖⛵
I don't comment often, but I have been watching your adventures for a year or better and I gotta say I loved this video. Thank you for your honesty, it took me 40 years to see these things you have talked about. Although both my parents and my grandparents set very clear examples of how it works, none of them ever sat me down and had a talk, explained to me what to do or how to do it. Unfortunately I went down a very different path of life than my parents or grandparents did, starting before I even graduated high school. Even when my kids were growing up and heading out on their own I had no real idea how to guide them. Anyway, we finally stumbled upon Dave Ramsey through our church a few years ago. Since then we have tried to get it together, we have managed to get mostly out of debt, besides the mortgage, but it is so much harder now that we are so much older and living on a fixed income and raising four of our grandchildren. But we keep pushing forward, your videos are an inspiration to me! Happy sailing and God's blessings!
Patreon is how the younger generation shows love, I'm your age, we see it differently .They are the 'digital natives' and just see all this through their own lens. They want to show some appreciation, I say let them. Think of it as a very intense "like". If you want to be a lil challenging, you could take it and save it all in a second account and just show it going up and remind people each episode how "just a little" adds up to a lot over time. Make it your kid's college fund. Great channel.
Disagree on one point. You did work for the American dream. The real one. The one that brought my great grandfather to the US. The one I served for and left the US for a good number of years for. The dream that states you have the right to Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Well done by the way.
@@SailingCorina I suggest less complaining, negativity and excuses. Instead spend more time working harder and finding a solution for reaching your goals.
Life, liberty and happiness is everyone's dream, not just people in U.S. However it's more easily achievable in U.S. due do better structured laws for the middle class.
The message I'm getting from this video is to realize that you're working for the "system" instead of working for yourself, and it's never too late to turn that around. Thank you for that.
While much of what was said here I agree with...I would only say, enjoy life while you can as I believe Keith and his family are doing. I've seen people of many different ages work very hard to get to where they are...only to have family responsibilities/health issues for them or a family member change everything in a blink of an eye. Life is a limited time offer make the most of it and enjoy...
This is the best advice anybody can give. I was a Tour Bus Driver for over 20 years and me and the family lived like a Miser! We set out to purchase a diesel pusher on a great deal and been full time for 5 years now. If you work hard enough and have a dream. It will all fall into place. Great video! Cheers in Utah!
I watch a lot of videos and that was one of the best. Sent it to my teenagers to watch. 20 to 30K a year is pretty cheap and for a family. I was told to expect 10% of the purchase price of the yacht per year to live, run and upkeep it. I hope your right.
Some negative comments made by others about your money are misplaced. I do not have much money but I do not need a 56ft yacht as my family is small. I’m buying a low priced 40 ft yacht for a fraction of your beautiful boat’s value and will be doing exactly the same as you guys! Good luck to you and be proud of all the hard work you have done to improve Zatara, she is an awesome vessel. Cheers, Al
I am 100% behind every word you say. Work, save, downsize, save. Learn from more successful people, surround yourself with positiveness and grow. And save the knowledge. Sell, live your life the way you want and save what you get out of it. At this moment I am trying to surround myself with positive people, working part and saving part are not a problem for me since I have somewhat of a dream or better said a goal, and I am slowly saving to get there, and I don't have anything I spend on other than living and have enough to eat and rest so I can work better. So, thanks for saying these words 😊 Oh, by the way, I love your channel and you guys are all cool and best wishes to the whole family 😊
What a wonderful breath of fresh air from Capt Keith, it's refreshing to have someone so basically honest to say it how it should be said, a lot of people can't handle the basic's Capt, (that's why there's a few negatives) - a lot of armchair sailor's can't understand that they are doing exactly what they wanted to do, sit at home doing nothing more than commenting on people who got off their arse's and did it! They simply can't understand that cruisers had exactly the same breaks as everyone else, they just chose to use the breaks differently - you CAN'T spend your money twice! My little boat is nowhere near as big or as beautiful as Zatara, but it is what I can both afford and handle single handed, but even my modest vessel meant that I don't drive a big fancy car or slash out on every luxury me, or my other half want, and most of the 'want' is only a fad - latest phone, hair-do, holiday, etc. that a bit of forward thinking would have shown how shallow it really is. I take my hat off to you sir for not going down the patron route, I get annoyed that people set out to do what they want to do, but want other people to pay for it. May I wish you and your adorable family the very best fortune in your endeavours, may you enjoy fair winds. I follow your adventures with enthusiasm. Bon Voyage Capt. George (UK)
Very true - I have been following a lot of sailing channel, so far I stumbled on this channel due to UA-cam algorithm, and now this is my #1 top channel, 2nd would sailing SV delos 3rd sailing la vagabond, 4th would be sailing doodles and the rest follow so and so on ........ This is what I want to see how to raise an entire family on a single boat, love you guys, take care and keep safe
I really like this video. You and I have the same mindset when it comes to education and making money. I myself barely graduated high school and worked my way up the corporate ladder. My family and I were part of the rat-race and decided to swim against the current. We paid off our debt in 2016, saved money through 2017 and moved out to the carribean in 2018 and have been living out here since. My wife stopped working full time and enjoys the flexibility of her new part-time business . Our teenage son feels like he has more freedom and enjoys homeschooling. I myself am working part time and enjoy spending most of my time with the family. We made sacrifices, but they paid off. I say life is a give-n-take. In order to enjoy the things you want, you have to sacrifice in other areas. We have no regrets and plan on living this lifestyle until our mom’s need taking care of. Thank you guys for your videos... keep it up!!
Excellent video! You presented some serious foreign thoughts to some, hard work and saving to name a couple. Good for y'all teaching the kids, better yet showing the kids the concepts and how they work!
Great advice, when i was working I did most of that, but never saying "that's not my job" is about the worst damn thing someone can say to a boss and when I was the boss, man did I hate hearing that. All respect to you all!
At 100k subs, you should monetize this channel and just save it for 5-10+yrs. This is one of the few channels I’d watch ads for. You guys are really living the dream! Thx for sharing
Good on you for telling the truth about your life! Save, stay the heck out of debt and don't wasted your money on stupid stuff! This is very very very Excellent advice that people just don't hear anymore!
Great info! Total RESPECT! Now.... How about an episode on the actual numbers? What was your savings when you were able to leave the work world? You had a biz? What did you sell it for? Show us what it cost to buy the boat. Living on $ 20-30K year? What about health insurance for you and the kids? Yes, VERY intruding questions... BUT seem to be a totally upfront kinda guy (that's why we luv ya man) and I hope you are not insulted. For all of us sitting in our " Little Life Rut" that have dreams to do what you have done, we would appreciate your openness. Thanks
I give mad props and much love to your family. Right now, as in like the past year, I personally am experiencing having money for the first time IN MY LIFE and A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE TALKING.... but let me share with you. I was a widow at 30, single mom on welfare at the methadone clinic.... and met my current husband 2 years ago this month IN LINE AT A HOMELESS SHELTER!!!! We clearly had both fell on hard times, fell in with the wrong people. But my husband started our business with nothing but a box of donated hand tools riding the bus and now A YEAR LATER, we have: a refurbished, lifted Jeep Grand Cherokee and we pull an enclosed trailer behind us contains a FULL mechanic shop complete with air compressor and generator and every tool you can imagine! We own our own thriving business repairing boats, trucks, equipment, etc. and have a large client base and steady work, TWO boats (a small cruiser and a 31 foot yacht that we are fixing up and plan to move onto when our apartment lease is up) and we travel and have thousands saved in the bank.... SO ANYONE CAN DO IT!!! Granted my husband has a very high demand skill set, but that means just get u one- education is FREE he didn’t go to school for that- he learned it on his own beginning through this grandfather. So someday we also plan to do what your family is doing. Right now we are going to be living on a powerboat, but a sailboat is next on my list of toys. And you know how we get all of our stuff? Free or really cheap and then we fix it up! Blood, sweat and tears- LITERALLY!!! And yes people talk, but they don’t know the real story so ignore the negative nancys of the world! I admire what you guys are doing and you are a great inspiration to me and my family! LOVE U GUYS!!!
Gawd I love this Man. My Plan is to buy a Land in the wilderness, build a small house, live of the land while working and saving money, then take my time building my Catamaran. This video put me back on the right perspective. Thank you for the tips Keith.
Worth paying attention, I lived my life debt free and avoided becoming a slave to the bank, that's the way to go, most people end up paying double for everything and hardly owning the clothes on their backs till its been payed of.
I like this. Concise. I think there's a lot of people trying to do a lot of different things in this world, and I always think to myself, "There is a sequence of steps to accomplishing literally anything we wish to do, and the first step is always to learn the steps." Now, I hear a lot of people say, "work hard", "do your best" and "achieve your potential". One key thing to ask oneself is "am I seeking happiness?" A person does not necessarily need to work hard, do their best or achieve their potential to be happy. The happiest guy I know rides a bicycle from his trailer to a plastics factory. Happiness (or unhappiness) isn't the result of what happens to us, but our interpretation of what's happening to us. Even money doesn't buy happiness (as we"ve all heard before), but it does buy a bit of comfort. No one wishes to suffer. I personally live what I call the "Plateau" analogy. I busted my ass early on and got to a comfortable place. Now I stroll across flat ground with a pretty decent view. I'll never have the view from the peak, but I also don't have to climb my whole life. Also,,, anyone who reaches the summit, inevitably has one direction left to go. We are extremely impressed with your set up! Not the boat. I mean, yeah, it's gorgeous! More so the lifestyle with kids. Although we do not choose to raise ours on a boat, I can easily imagine doing what you're doing. As an airline captain and high school principal, our plan is to play the "American Dream" game until our kids head off, then cash it out for boat life. We'll even keep our lake cabin in MN like you have your place in MT! All in all, I don't think anyone should compare or judge. What you're doing is no doubt inspirational. Thank you for putting in the work to make the videos and sharing your life with us! We all enjoy your videos. Ours aren't a fraction as interesting, but we would be honored if you ever took a look. Goodonya. I seem to remember from somewhere that you're a Texan. Me, too. I worked in the oil patch for a time installing communications equipment on the rigs. Nothing like climbing a rig that is covered in ice and grease to install an antenna at the top at 5 in the morning. That'll make you want to sail the South Pacific! Went on to engineering communications systems. Anyway, great vids and solid advice. Maybe we will see you out there when we sail out in about 340 days (can you tell we're counting the days now?).
I have just bought a 16ft trailer sailer and am working. I save up 80% of what I earn and put it in the bank. The rest of the money I spend when I go out with mates and all that stuff. Very inspiring guys. Thank you.👍
Advice like this is PRICELESS ! Should be required viewing for every high school/college graduate in the U S. This and basic Child Psychology. For the life of me, why its not, i don't or ever will understand it. Of course, you have to be willing to re locate to where the $$ is and not be above hard physical labor. That part should be common sense. Another major requirement !
What i love about your show is that you say it as it is....and it gives a real idea about sailing to people like me watching from home. I love when you include lots of sailing knowledge !!
Show up and work your scheduled hours everyday ! Your employer will consider you one of the most valuable employees ever ! Accumutate those perfect attendance sertificates for your resume ! There is no easier way to land a good paying job when you have proof of years having perfect attendance ! The best part is the money never having a short paycheck ! Good nutrition and no vices assure the ability to be at work on time year after year when you take care of your body with a healthy lifestyle ! I know , I do it ! 23 years , never missed a lick , never late , never leave early ! Never sick ! Thanks for sharing 😎
zzzx xzzz EXCELLENT. Vegan power. People should know that's it's no fable that the meats are now sprayed right out of the horrific slaughterhouse farms with bad viruses. Human meat has been found ( not a rare incident ) in ground up meat. The Elite know most are to weak to give up attractive foods and poison those. The biggest wealthiest of all corporations are Big Pharma. All oil and gas don't come close to the sick care industry of Big Pharma.
Keith, I've been following the Wynns, and I really am enjoying watching videos like this. I'm 61 years old now, in a terrible spot. I so wish that I could take what you said in this video, and travel back 50 some years and tell myself this is how things have to be. Also, get some medical testing done to stop what has plagued me most of my life, but that's another story. You're right, a self-made person does far better than others. I just finished watching Brian Shul's "From Butterflies to Blackbirds" presentation. He talks about attitude, and that attitude of work is what saved his life, and gave him an opportunity like only a handful of others. Your comments simply reinforce what he said. I hope your children can learn from your experience. Thanks for sharing your videos, I'll probably be watching your stuff from here on out.
Thanks Keith know what your talking about I myself have spent 35+ years in the Petroleum Business working all over the world . Just didn't have the courage to take the step you did hence here I'm watching you and enjoying your success. Keep up the good work I will be with you all the way.
Loved the video and also went back to watch the vid explaining how you made your stash. Good on you. I do wonder about your USD 20-30K per year estimate for living aboard the big boat though, especially around NZ where you are now. It costs us more than that in Australia in an RV doing 95% free camping, so similar to you being ‘on the hook’. Plus you have had 6 to feed, not 2. And I know how much those new sails, sheets, fittings, fridge etc you bought would have cost, many thousands retail. Maintenance on a yacht is significant, especially if full time sailing in all weathers across oceans, stuff wears out quick and you replace before it breaks preferably. I would have thought a yacht owner would have spent 20-30K on that stuff already in the past 12 months. Anyway, not my position to judge, it may give others thinking its a cheap way to live , a false impression.
Absolutely true, this is how I am and my dad taught me. Too many people these days want to live a life of luxury when they're young but will end up broke when they're older
Bro. I'm a black, husband, dad, trucker, n i appreciate yo honesty! I'm also from the country, north east Marshall,Texas. I 2 think of buying a cat n living on the high seas. Keep up the awesome work!
Invest in time on a learning cruise!!! Best to work 2 weeks at leaning and being on the seas.
try it...in the end we all go away and take nothing....what we do now...have no regrets
The mindset for people to treat their bosses like they are your client and think of themselves as their own boss is genius. Well said. You have a new subscriber.
i heard that sentence and instantly subscribed.
That is a great perspective and that the truth and reality.
Best piece of financial advice I ever got was live below your means. Saving is easy when you do.
Kids, here is a GOSPEL OF KEITH :
"DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO UNTIL YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO"
Amen
but what if i want to do what i have to do?
"Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do." 4:40
Wiser words have never been spoken
Preach
I'm really slogging through what I have to do right now ... thanks for these wise words!
It's a powerful set of words. Similar to Dave Ramsey who helps people learn about money and debt. He says to get out of debt and to save to live the life you want, you need to "Live like no one else so that someday, you can live like no one else."
I’m doing it now.
Thanks.
" Treat your boss like a client "
Neat!
Excellent vid
The oil & gas industry is a money machine. Saving $$s is great advice. Having a wife who shares that vision is also essential. Congrats.
Waiting to get back out there. Screwed around last year and made 80K. Paid off 35 grand of debt in the past two years.
As a small business owner, great advice. I will show this video to my wife, she doesn't seem to understand the part about saving money.
Tim Miles haha , that's the bit he left out .
lol ... happy wife, happy life?
Unless she spends all your money!
10 years later mine still hadn’t learned
RUN!
I nearly wet myself.. let us know how that goes..
"Quit talking about your boss like he's the enemy or the devil." That statement should be required memorization and study for every school and college in the country!
Well, there are of course exceptions, e.g.
I had changed job due to a boss who are a genuine evil witch, or to be more precise : A psychopath.
That's cuz she was an affirmative action hire for feminists.
What if your boss is the devil? 😂😂
That advice starting at 4:40 should be taught from middle school on till HS graduation. Kudos to you for putting it out there.
Sounds like a smart Texan to me !! Coming from a fellow Texan. I retired at 53 myself, worked since I was 16, time to live the good life. 🤠
Retired at 50, bought a 20 acre ranch near Suwannee. Totally off grid.
she does a killer job on the story line and editing

Really liked the comment about treating every job as if you were a contractor! Excellent advise... love your all videos and the z logs are perfect.
Love, Terri
I love that you guys are so honest and down to earth.
(He was a teacher)
That led to becoming a Ditch Witch Dealer in Amarillo and then in North Carolina. I retired after 48 years in the Ditch Witch Business. (I’m 64)
As for your money talk, this V-Log should be required watching for every person coming out of a High School and College.
Cliff my whole family is from amarillo
Most people don't/won't listen to this kind of advice because they are looking for something easy, a silver bullet, not a marathon, a life philosophy.
Cliff ,question above was for you.good going keith.he saf e & enjoy that fresh seafood!beautiful family.
So agree!
Wow!! Do you know Chad & Colby Neal? They own a Ditch Witch here in Charlotte NC!
Thank you!
That's what I like on Z-Logs: no BS, straight to the point.
Love that saying, “do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do.”
THANKS FOR THE INFO AND THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR SAILING LIVES WITH US YOU GUYS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND WE REALLY LOVE YOU !
These no edit videos are great. Keith is a proper stand up guy
Congrats mate.
how’s it going
still making progress. we are on track but inflation is definitely going to cut it close. @@mt7810
Some of the best advice ever in my opinion. I’m glad there are folks like you living the Dream. Hats off to you guys!!
This is the realest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.
I've been a fan of this channel but this video made me a superfan! Great advice, thanks so much for keeping it real!
Love a life-speaking individual! So encouraging. Too few out there! 🔥🙏🏽
Meggie Ulrich
⛵💖🥰🙏✝️🥰💖⛵
Lol
@@SailingCorina I suggest less complaining, negativity and excuses. Instead spend more time working harder and finding a solution for reaching your goals.
Life, liberty and happiness is everyone's dream, not just people in U.S. However it's more easily achievable in U.S. due do better structured laws for the middle class.
@@SailingCorina Be the shoe
Michael Marino my thoughts exactly!!!!!
Cheers, Al
Love it when you said it’s all BS! My wife and I are on the same boat.
You guys are great ! Good old hard work is your gift to your kids with world travel !

You are crazy not to do Patreon. You all put out a great product and as a client I would be happy to help pay for that quality content.
Hell yes y'all need to put that Hollywood out of business they can't make real life out there like y'all do and share
I second that.

Like being tag teamed by Mike Rowe and Dave Ramsey..... Good stuff.
I just got a visual that I didn't want.
Thank you 😂
I really like this video.
Brother. I'm also from Texas and I love yall.
I like y'all are letting your kids see the world without being so much.a part of it. What a healthy mindset for your family.
Great episode. I've been watching your channel ALL DAY! I"m so hooked.
Thanks
You and your family are really an inspiration to us all. Wise words
Hard work , sensible decisions always pay off in the end
As you watch us, know that on our TV in the background is you! ❤ ~ Josh
Thank you.👍
Good man, great wife, and a fabulous family. Nice boat too. Keep it up.
I don’t like “negative people” How true!
What i love about your show is that you say it as it is....and it gives a real idea about sailing to people like me watching from home. I love when you include lots of sailing knowledge !!
brilliant video, great that you tell it the way it is.
Yeah I agree, I like a no BS kinda guy like him. Straight to the point and no sugar coating.
He live the America dream. And still is. How many countries could he have done this in.
Treat your boss like a client.
Definitely something I needed to hear right now .

zzzx xzzz EXCELLENT.
And learn how to spell
You are a wise man.
Always enjoy your videos. I know what I enjoy the most is your cohesiveness as a family.
You Sir are a Legend !
Absolutely true, this is how I am and my dad taught me. Too many people these days want to live a life of luxury when they're young but will end up broke when they're older
"I want to work for my freedom" YESSS.
