    I brought Sony DCR-TRV340E Digital 8 HandyCam in 2001 to take on a 6-month military deployment and didn't really use it much after that for the next 20+ years lol. I was surprised, when I started searching online how it has kept its value!! I just pulled it out and keen to see how it looks for a webcam!! Thanks for the video - brought back some memories of the fun I had learning how to use it.

    This was my first camera. I remember going to Sears with my dad to buy it. I still have it! Loved making movies with it.

    As always, Brandon, great Digital Investigating on these SONY workhorses. And I will keep thinking that an independent film/video maker can create an enterprising business by shooting 'shorts' or long format movies and instead of calling them movies, call them video-movies so the Digital Seed is planted in the audiences mind of what type of video-movie they're getting and seeing AND then showcasing these video-movies as 4-Walling self-distribution and all that really matters is the story, actors and themes of those video-movies that can be shot on SONY DIGITAL8 camcorders. - James D. Watkins, artistic director of PHOENIX PRODUCTIONS.

    Lol, cute video. I think it's a scream that people who weren't even born when these cameras came out are taking a shine to them. I had the TRV820 back then, and also a TRV730. I had used professional assemble-edit controllers with U-matic decks when I was in college, and then about 10 years later these cameras came out and I was enthralled by the fact that I could suck in the footage to a Sony Vaio computer and edit it non-linearly. So I was a huge fan of Digital 8 and MiniDV back around the turn of the millennium. Take care of your camera, because remember, there's no such thing as a Digital 8 camera factory anymore so whatever we have left is all we have from now until eternity!

      I was actually 4 years old when this camera came out haha and yes I agree that’s kind of one of the reasons I’m doing this channel is to hopefully inspire some people to step back in time to try out some of these older camcorders. And if people don’t have possession of them and are not using them they will most likely be going to the land fill in working condition or not

      @@brandoncameracollectionI just have 2 questions for u Brandon.
      1. What month was this camera manufactured, I know it was manufactured in 2000
      2. Can Sony Digital 8 Camcorders take Hi8 tapes??

    • @brandoncameracollection
      @brandoncameracollection  2 місяці тому

      @T.w.m1039 not exactly sure what month it was made but yes you can use hi8 tapes. Digital 8 tapes might give you a bit better video quality but you can use any 8mm tape

      @@brandoncameracollection i picked up 2 battle scarred camcorders - sony SR68 and XR500V. Sd memory card cams for ease of use for now...
      I'm getting an analog -> sd card box thingy (digitnow) though so I can prey upon the ultra low priced hi8/mini dv nostalgia cams.

      You can use any video 8, hi8, or digital 8 tape. As long as it’s an 8mm tape it will work. I recommend getting yourself a new tape for it to work the best

    omg thank you especially for this last part, I was searching all day if you can record directly to laptop bypassing Digital8 tape.
    So to be clear can I use dv to usb cable or do I need to dv to hdmi and hdmi capture card for it to work?

      No unfortunately it’s a little more complicated than that I had this hooked up to a VCR. I’ll link the video on how I do it with the specific one I have. Along with another way to do it with thunderbolt if you have a Mac book.

    So, an older lady friend of mine gave me this camera to sell it on facebook marketplace. How much is one of these things? I charged 100 bucks or best offer and I've gotten 20 messages within the last few hours............... Is that too low a price ?

    • @brandoncameracollection
      @brandoncameracollection  День тому

      Depends on the state of the camera. I usually see the digital 8 cameras go for about $250 if they are in good shape

    Do you know how long it needs to be charged cuz me and my grandma are trying to figure it out and we plug it i. For like thirty min and when we take it off the charger it wont work idk if it needs a new battery or something

    • @brandoncameracollection
      @brandoncameracollection  Місяць тому

      Well you think it’s either the battery or the charger. More times than not the battery is dead and won’t hold a charger. If it is the original battery it’s most likely 20+ years old. I have a link to a battery and charger in the description of the video.
