    Tips:
    1. Make sure hair stays well moisturised
    2. Avoid heat on hair
    3. Trim hair only as needed
    4. Don't put heat on dirty hair
    5. Don't overlap on chemicals (eg relaxer & bleaching)
    6. Alternate the positions you wear your ponytail
    7. Don't use ponytail holder with metal clasp
    8. Don't use manilla rubber bands
    9. Sleep on satin or silk (satin bonnet, pillowcase, sheets)
    10. Treat hair with TLC (comb gently working from ends to root)
    I'm guilty of wearing those rubber bands....Can't wait to hear the other tips!

      Thanks. I'm guilty of not wearing satin scarves and bonnets to bed, but I got a satin lined beanie that works better for me and some satin pillowcases. I also need to be better about detangling my hair. I'm not through enough and I get a lot of knots.

      using satin or silk ponytail holder is a way better option AND AND AND put conditioner on the hair before you take down any styles down so you get to detangle and condition at the same time. THAT saves a lot of time :)

    My number one solution for breakage has been protecting my ends. My hair was breaking at shoulder length for the longest time and through low manipulation styles and styles that keep my ends tucked away, I’ve been able to see growth, past shoulder length.

    Ugh that protein/moisture balance struggle is REAL! I'm high porosity so I naturally lack in both moisture AND protein. I'm either going into Hydral fatigue or protein overload trying to find the balance!
    BUT I think I'm getting closer to figuring it out. Ph balancing my products & alternating between a protein free, moisturizing DC & light protein DC biweekly has helped. I almost have my 4b/4c hair mastered! I'm so excited lol.💃💃💃💃😆

    Thanks so much for being detailed. Can you do a video on how to retain length and reduce breakage on your diabetic clients and clients with hypertension? It seems that once I had my last child at 35 , my system changed with both diseases mentioned above and my hair bc of the meds turned dry and brittle 😞. Any and all advice would be appreciated . I do protected styles. Remain Blessed.

    • @GetGlamFam
      @GetGlamFam  7 років тому +7

      For the hypertension, a huge part of it is going to tie back to diet. Blood pressure meds are known to cause shedding of the hair, so eating less salty food and getting more regular exercise goes a long way. The lower your dosage, the less the medication has that impact.
      Now for a lot of my clients on meds, I’ll do periodic clarifying treatments and then deep condition under a hair steamer to encourage more moisture. Also, if you sweat heavily in your head, try cowashing between shampoos. 👍🏽❤️

      You’ve probably seen this already, but he talked about it a bit in the video he did about hair grease. The short answer was that it’s better to focus on supplementing holistically, because you want your whole body to be healthy, and your hair will draw and benefit from that. Plus, some of the more “specialized” supplements will have excessively high amounts of certain stuff and this can actually cause issues. Anyways, the vid will have his full words on it.
      And of course, consult your doc about stuff!

    Linwood,
    Thanks so much for this video. I just shared it with my wife. She spent almost a year in loose braids (ugh) growing her hair out for it to grow to a great length only to break off several months later and she doesnt have a clue why. She went to a beautician in Philly who claimed to specialize in natural hair so no perms etc. My wifes hair looked amazing, healthy and shiny for a time. Her beautician did caramel treatments and would wash, condition, blow and flat iron then curl my wifes hair and it just started breaking off terribly after paying all that money to keep it done 2x per month.

    Great vid btw!!! IDK what my issue is? I only use good moisture conditioners like Mizani Hydrafuse and Nexus moisture plus conditioner. I also do hot oil steam treatments every other week and use hair dress creams daily b/c my hair can feel dry at times. I was even trying the rice water too, which I think helped with friction and knotting. I only use a hooded hair steamer. I don't use my blow dryer or hooded hair dryer anymore. I look for split ends daily & dust them off. I wear my hair in dookie twists everyday b/c I only let it dry naturally. I only sleep on a satin pillowcase. I wash/condition my hair every other week. And I do all of this and yet, my tightly coiled hair still self knots & snaps off the ends. In turn, it appears like my hair will not grow passed a certain point which is at bra strap length on my back and/or shoulder length on the sides. I've been natural since 2004 and so, my hair should be down to my butt & not just to my bra strap. Also, my crown area likes to break off here and there, which also is common for my mom and sister so I guess that's hereditary. I'm just lost as to why it doesn't grow longer? Maybe I don't drink enough water or something, which seems like such a cliche answer? If you have any add'l suggestions, pls let me.......Thanks

      With conditioning Your locs, add a bit of water to the conditioner so you don’t end up with build up in your locs! It really makes a huge difference!

    Hey there, I hope this is the right place to ask? What do you think about texturizer? I had such nice hair in it’s natural state. However, since I did The Fast 800 diet, which is high in protein and Mediterranean foods for the last year, my hair went brittle and had severe breakage. Despite moisturising. I went to my stylist and she revived my hair with, trimming, shampooing, deep conditioning, steam treatment. After straightening with blow drying and using steam powered straighteners. I like the idea of going from straight to curly when I want especially as I like to swim in the summer. Apart from hair dye with no alcohol. I’ve had no other process in 9 years. Sorry this is so long.

    That was so much information that was REALLY needed for me to hear. I have all girls and we are all mixed babies of color. African Spanish native American and Caucasian. Very beautifully mixed. It's hard yo keep moisture in all our hair we live in nm. Very very different elements go on here. Thank you very very much

    • @sandraatkins2539
      @sandraatkins2539 3 роки тому

      Respectfully, I am confused about your delineation between Spanish and Caucasian. Spanish refers to the White people from Spain and their language. They colonized the Native Indians in the New World and forced their language(Spanish)on them. I felt the need for a history lesson to clarify. Blessings to you and your babies.
