I received my 2020 model in June. Amazing car. I would definitely recommend getting the T8 hybrid engine. 390 hp of awesome power, and I can run it in pure electric mode on the daily commute.
C R Definitely. I have three kids myself, ages 0 to 2. I have them sitting three across in the middle row. Just be aware that there is no isofix in the middle seat. For older children, there is an integrated booster seat in the middle.
ThisorThat The gas engine will kick in if you hit the pedal hard, even in so-called Pure mode. You don’t have to switch modes, but you will spend some fuel.
I live in an area where a lot of these XC90s exist. Most of the owners complain of computer issues with the display. One expensive vehicle too. I wouldn't mind having one but not at $65-80k.
THE biggest change on the T8 powertrain is the increase in fuel tank size from the tiny 50L to 70L - giving it decent range even after the battery is depleted,
I drove this car and I'm not sure about it. The steering was really loose and I'm not used to that. I also thought it wasn't as smooth on the road as some of the others I have test driven. I'm really on the fence. But..the interior is by far the only model that made me drool. This video confirms what I thought about the steering and I am going to try the Dynamic mode when I go back a second time.
Changes I've noticed as an XC-90 owner: The speaker grilles are now grey, they used to be silver The grille on the inscription trim bends inwards Six seating configuration Silver trim on the rear bumper R Design trim is now black instead of satin silver New wheel choices New front bumper trim Side mirror blinkers are redsigned
Love the reviews...u guys make a good team....new sub from Ontario, 🇨🇦😉👍 The seats in Volvo cars were designed (support to body wise) by a chiropractor....Volvo actually consulted one. 😀
Thank you for the great review! When possible can you do a short follow-up review on the 6 passenger version? That interior layout is a big change for 2020 and I’d love hear more about the 2nd row captain chairs and how the 3rd row feels with the pass through.
The dealer actually had one on the lot when we were filming so we got a few impressions. There are actually some shortcomings with the 6 passenger version. For one, the captain's chairs do not have fold-down armrests at all which we thought was really odd. Secondly, the cupholders added are merely just sitting on the floor in a big plastic tub for people to step on. That said, it's really nice that they give you the option to have the captain's chairs if it's a must. Hope that helps!
I can't believe Mason didn't point out the spider hiding in the 3rd row armrest storage compartment of every XC90. Great review guys of an even better XC90.
Hi Drew and Mason 😄, truly a stellar review. I did not realize til this review that the XC90 has entered the 2020 model year. So is the option for Bowers & Wilkins no longer an option? Drew and Mason, you both are truly awesome and I enjoyed this review since I'm a Volvo guy. Excellent 😄
And by the way, Volvo seems to be the first car manufacturer to offer wool seating in a luxury vehicle here in the USA. The only other car I know that has wool seating is the Toyota Century, which is sold in Japan only (not available in the USA).
I am an owner of the XC90 and would like to know more about the remote start up on the vehicle and will it be standard? Really comfortable vehicle and fast.
It's a gorgeous car for sure and I'm thinking of getting one but... What worries me is the reliability of the car, since I've heard bad thing about the 2017 model. What do u think?
I totally agree with you, the Volvo XC90 is gorgeous. Of course, the Lexus RX/RX-L may be the one to get if you're looking for a reliable mid-size luxury SUV. I will tell you this however, if you're leasing a vehicle, I don't think you have to worry about long term reliability. In that case I highly recommend checking out the Volvo XC90. But if you are buying a vehicle long term, then I highly recommend the Lexus RX.
A lot of the quality issues were software-related during first couple years. They’ve updated the software several times since and it is much less of an issue these days.
If you take care of the car, it'll last. I'd never buy a luxury car though. If you're not "throw money around" rich then leasing is a good option since it'll cover things that can break with your car.
Damn!...sorry to hear My 2009 xc90 V8 has 270,000ks on the clock...and still looks and runs like new!! (no issues at all, second owner and I love it!!) ...tad concerned about these P2 models, there is just so much tech stuff to go wrong, so it will be interesting to see how well they age (would you want to own one outside of warrenty???)
the glove compartment has a cooling feature to store a drink or 2 thats what the snow flake is for great video and absolutely love this vechicle onky down side is that it doesnt hold its value depriciates really quickly
I like the subtle updates. The front looks a bit more aggressive and the new chrome strip on the rear bumper is a needed addition. I’m not too crazy about the new 21 inch wheels though. They remind me of the wheels on a Lincoln. They do look better on the black XC90 than white, to my eye. And the optional 10 spoke 21s are way too expensive. The 6 passenger version is a welcome option but why didn’t Volvo put arm rests on the two remaining seats? One more thing. The Polstar option should be standard on the T6 Inscription. The XC90 is a great car in so many ways I just wish it offered, as options, more cylinders under the hood to compete better with the Krauts. Many Americans still shy away from a $77,000 luxury suv with a 4 banger.
Is this the top of the line with _all_ the options? Wondering b/c I saw the avg Harman-Kardon stereo system vs the Bowers-Wilkins, manual adjusting steering wheels (which means no auto adjust base on driver settings)? And can you control temp without exiting main screen you’re on?
There are a few more options but this is the vast majority of them. There is never a power steering wheel but we are missing the luxury package and Bowers and Wilkins audio system
No it's programed to only open by foot activation when the vehicle is powered off and, of course, the fob also has to be located behind the vehicle. That keeps away any chance of accidental opening
Volvo is building a new battery assembly plant alongside its existing factory in South Carolina to support a line of EVs in the U.S., ncluding a forthcoming all-electric version of the next-generation XC90 crossover, Automotive News reports. The battery plant is part of an additional $600 million investment Volvo announced in 2017 for its 2.3 million square-foot plant near Charleston, where it currently builds the S60 for global markets and is adding a second line and training facilities. The existing plant will similarly become the global production center for the third-generation XC90. Construction on the new plant, which will test and build battery packs, carriers and harnesses, is expected to start this fall and wrap up in time for the launch of production of the new XC90 starting in 2022, according to the Post and Courier of Charleston. The XC90, Volvo’s top-selling model in the U.S. and No. 3 seller globally, will move to a new version of the Scalable Product Architecture platform, or SPA2, for its third generation. The second generation has been around since the 2015 model year and rides on the first version of the SPA platform. The timeline would make the XC90 Recharge, as its battery-electric cars will be known, Volvo’s third EV, according to its plans to release a fully electric vehicle each year over the next five years. In October, Volvo revealed the XC40 Recharge, its first electric vehicle, due later in 2020. It has two electric motors powered by a 78-kWh battery pack that delivers 248 miles in range on a full charge, based on the more generous European WLTP testing. It’s built on the same modular CMA platform as the gasoline version of the crossover. That leaves an as-yet unidentified EV for 2021, and there are reportedly no plans to make an electric version of the S60; a Volvo spokesman said he could not comment on other specific models. The new battery plant will help Volvo source its batteries more cheaply than transporting from elsewhere to South Carolina, reports say. Currently, Volvo offers plug-in hybrid versions of the S90 sedan, XC90 and XC60, plus a B-badged mild hybrid variant of its XC90. The company has said that every new model introduced after 2019 will be either a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or full-electric vehicle, with a new EV launched every year. Each version offered with a plug will come with the “Recharge” model branding. www.yahoo.com/news/volvo-bui...210500825.html What'ja want to bet the SPA2 on the III Gen XC90 will have at least a 130 kWh battery with a range of 320+ miles.
Great review, thanks! Can you speak at all to the ride comfort compared to other cars in the class? Consumer reports describes it as having an "overly stiff ride that is not up to luxury standards."
Thanks! We certainly wouldn't describe it that way. Sure there are other luxury crossovers that ride softer, but this is more of a pleasant firmness. Impacts are still cancelled out before entering the cabin but still allows it to have better than average body control
Not everyone wants, or needs, 43000hp from a v24 356.9l mooscle machine. Remember this is a primarily european car, fuel over here is daylight robbery, and as tom says, it's plenty quick and a family car. Want huge engines, buy something with it.
It’s a great car for a great price but I have one problem it’s not updating its look. Also other brands like Kia, Lincoln, Hyundai have all updated there cars. But I can’t say this is a bad car in general.
Can you also review the 2020 B5 Mild Hybrid engine? *Correction these seats come with massage also, its the side switch and its standard with these ventilated seats.
How the hell do you get this thing in Neutral? I work at a car wash and tried helping a customer get in neutral only to fail. Having bad luck online looking for an answer.
"Another Step Towards Perfection for 2020!" The new Supra will definitely be the best example of that this year... (yes, I got the chance to test one out)
Your other videos are great but this one you said cabin is quiet but it is not at all. Reviews and personal experience found cabin had much more noise than other models in the same class.
Thanks! It does depend on what you're comparing it to. If you're looking at X7 and GLS yes it does have a lot more noise but other main rivals like the MDX and XT6 it's very much competitive (from what we remember)
We’re 15k miles in and that even as a Polestar owner, I really think this car is perfectly suited to the 4-cylinder. Us Americans need to throw out the mentality that bigger is better when it comes to number of cylinders or displacement.
bulldog23ist my Polestar V60 is supercharged, turbocharged, and has 362hp. It’s a rocket. I adore technological advancement, and this engine is the embodiment of that. We also have an older polestar sedan with the inline 6 too, though. Both are great, it very different. I really like both. The fear of change and advancement drives me bananas.
You can find a 2016-2018 XC90 Excellence for sale online for nearly half the original $100,000 sticker price. Seriously, that price is a bargain for a limo company to add to their fleet.
I always find, when watching these car overview videos, no one sets their climate control. 79° and 65°?? Strange. Beside adjusting my driving position, step 2 is always setting the climate control. The other oddity here ... leaving the CC “off” in the rear of the vehicle. Otherwise, thanks for the extensive overview here.

Very well priced? Wtf? How freaking rich are you?
I’ve had Volvo wagons and sedans since 1985 (7 total, two with 200,000 miles). About to pull the trigger on a 2021 XC-90. Great review.
I received my 2020 model in June. Amazing car. I would definitely recommend getting the T8 hybrid engine. 390 hp of awesome power, and I can run it in pure electric mode on the daily commute.

I had this model and its amazing
Believe me. If u afford one buy its family friendly
Can't go wrong with this suv man
Only if it had a twin turbo v8 ( not necessary but would give the car a even greater luxury/sporty status ).

Jared Stephenson I’m not saying it needs a v8 or anything. I just hope they eventually put in a v6.
bulldog23ist my Polestar V60 is supercharged, turbocharged, and has 362hp. It’s a rocket. I adore technological advancement, and this engine is the embodiment of that. We also have an older polestar sedan with the inline 6 too, though. Both are great, it very different. I really like both. The fear of change and advancement drives me bananas.
JTL2017 they’ll never use V6’s again. They’re goal is to go electric with their entire lineup.
Love this car!
They got rid of the 'Excellence' trim level?
Unfortunately, yes 🙁
@@CarConfections WOW that is some bewl sheet.
You can find a 2016-2018 XC90 Excellence for sale online for nearly half the original $100,000 sticker price. Seriously, that price is a bargain for a limo company to add to their fleet.
The car has a built in tablet 😂
Lovely car
I always find, when watching these car overview videos, no one sets their climate control. 79° and 65°?? Strange. Beside adjusting my driving position, step 2 is always setting the climate control. The other oddity here ... leaving the CC “off” in the rear of the vehicle.
Otherwise, thanks for the extensive overview here.
Can someone pull off in it without the key fob?
Yes they can if it is already started
Truck not a car! A suv is a truck just closed in at the rear for safe guarding.
I want a new s60 so bad
Wat kid camera u use
It is a Sony AX53 4K Camcorder
I still love my Toyota Yaris 😭
Can you please review the 2020 XC90 R-Design?
Perhaps if we get one!
@@CarConfections Awaiting for that, and thank you for the quick reply 👍

We are trying to locate one as soon as we can! Stay tuned!
@@CarConfections You might have a hard time finding one. I heard that demand for the Aviator is so high, which is why Doug DeMuro took a while to find one.
So, basically a car with IKEA interior.
