This is what happens when Laurel and Hardy try to sale under the bridge at Potter Heigham on the Norfolk Broads. They ignored advise before the incident happened.
Dont know if anyone cares at all but I just hacked my friends Instagram password using InstaPlekt. You can find it by Googling if you wanna try it yourself
Miss Betty - if this is true, then you, or someone, should see to it that a bar with hanging tubes if fitted in front of the bridge. They would make a terrible clatter when a boat hit them, but cause no damage, and save untold tens of thousands of pounds over the years. But wait ... that's intelligent thinking. Far better just to let people go on making mistakes and laughing at them .... What good 'ol people you Nofolk folk are.
I believe in this case they were warned, there is only so much you can do to save people from themselves. This bridge is only a few minutes from where I live and is well known for the lack of clearance yet year after year people crash boats into it. All the more money for the local economy....
Toy Toy - If it’s their own boat they should have hired a pilot to get them under, and if it’s a hire boat you’re not allowed to take it under without a pilot.
I've been under that bridge in a hire boat. As stated below, you are not allowed to take a hire boat under it yourself - leave it to the professionals. I was very glad for the help!!
+davidthmovies True, but if you have very little room to spare, it is not easy for a beginner to do it safely. You wouldn't let a learner driver do the M25, would you?
holy shit. that boat was OBVIOUSLY not going to fit. They strolled right in to it like there was never a doubt. And 0:53 is she seriously trying to PULL the boat back while standing ON the boat. That explains this whole incident.
Love reading the Asinine comments from the Armchair admirals here! Bet you have never made mistakes have you. And wonder how many of you have sailed the waterways besides which I live? I have seen more than my share of extremly stupid private boat owners making extremly similar mistakes over the years.
These are 2 fucking idiots that should know height of the boat they're on ... And to watch that sack of Angels delight bouncing on the back just winds me up .lol
There is a big notice on hire boats which states"Under NO circumstances should you attempt to take this boat under Potter Heigham Bridge, you must use the bridge pilot" many people ignore it and most come to grief. lol
I've heard that pilots occasionally take a few people on board, 40-50 stone or so. But this side is tricky due to the currents. The jumping was blooming optimistic!
My wife and I lived near here, that is the bridge at Potter Higham, we used to go there with a picnic and watch the fools crash into the bridge,, made a nice day out for us!! You are not allowed to take any rented or hire boats under the bridge now ,, you HAVE to let the local pilot take it through!
I think you can technically go through without a pilot, but you're responsible for any damage if you mess up. Smaller boats like day cruisers and sailing cabin yachts can usually go through just fine without needing a pilot since it's obvious they'll fit, but taller and wider boats have more issues with clearance so a pilot is advised.
Only time I've ever had a mishap with that bridge is once when we were sailing a yacht with no engine, we had to quant up to the bridge and of course there's not enough room for the quant pole while you're directly under the arch, so you have to get enough momentum, unfortunately the tide was moving upriver quite strongly and we only got halfway through before the tide slowed us down and forced us back again. Had to wait for the tide to start turning before we attempted again but everything went smoothly.
It's just a convenient way of waiting for the tide to drop without having to take the trouble to moor up. All they had to do was put the kettle on, make a cup of tea and relax ;-)
Maybe, although I recognise what side of the bridge that is, on the other side there's only a relatively short stretch of river, Hickling Broad, Martham Broad, Horsey Mere and a single boatyard, everyone that lives or has a boat mooring the other side of this bridge knows exactly how low Potter Heigham bridge is. It's far more likely they're from this side of the bridge and hadn't gone through it before alone, and didn't want to pay the pilot's fee to take them through.
Can't fix stupid. Ignored advice. No life jackets. Jumping up and down may have given them some exercise, but wouldn't work on a row boat, let alone that one. The only way that boat is going under the bridge is to wait for the tide to go out or to take on balist to lower the boat (like letting the air out of the tires.) Outside of that it is eather a hax saw or the jaws of life.
I love the way the woman stands on the bathing platform & tries to pull the boat backwards, then jumps up & down! Bet she was fit by the end of the holiday. As usual, it was some know-it all bloke at the helm & some poor woman (who would probably have preferred a beach holiday) tasked with getting them out of the fix. To be fair, that is a notorious bridge: which is why they have pilot station beside it.
I have been through there with a friends boat, it is a scary experience even when you know the dimensions of the craft. Fortunately I did not have a mishap, and even more fortunately it did not get recorded and uploaded to UA-cam. When I have hired larger boats I stick to the rules and leave it to the bridge pilot. Going through the bridges where there are often strange currents you need to go through at high power in order to retain control, the boat will also sit lower as the prop pushes water from under the boat. I am not an experienced boat pilot but am learning all the time, this family probably ruined their holiday with just one bad decision..
They built a new bridge for vehicles but keep the old one because it is listed. I think they should cut around it, breaking the road (cars can use the new bridge) and bringing tourist money to the northern section of the river.
OMG so funny what clowns, I can hear the women saying Ill stand on the Back lol. then how are we going to get out lol.Answer wait for the tide to go out a bit lol. this is potter higham, Norfolk. a well known low Bridge but not to these guys lol.
First, they were way too fast... If they would have gone dead slow, they could had stop just before and see if it goes though... Anyway, they should have checked the rises and falls of the tide.. and lastly, being in the stupid situation they were, the could have unscrew the base of the canvas top.... I didn't know if I should laugh or be discussed by how stupid was that woman... Oups! I will go with Miaui Miaui diea... Hahaha...
And why didnt they at least try to pull themselves back with the anchor, surely they have one for just this sort of incident. No, oh well lesson learned - maybe
And Ladies and Gentlemen that is all we have to show you today on life's reality show, "The Dumb and the Brainless." Tune in next time when we see what happens when a man eats a butterfly...which is poisonous.
Used boat for sale, almost new condition...recently lowered.. not in price..
just... lowered..
Dont know if anyone cares at all but I just hacked my friends Instagram password using InstaPlekt. You can find it by Googling if you wanna try it yourself
Love the way he's pulling on the pack of the boat while standing on the back of the boat.
"he'll never lift the bridge up" classic line. LMFAO
First time ever I heard ducks laughing
The people of Norfolk find this most amusing. It happens every year without fail.
I was sat having coffee by the bridge only a week or two ago, my wife does not admit to enjoying the boat crashes like I do though...
Use to go and sit by the river and watch all the holiday makers crashing in to the bridges and each other ! good times !

Even the ducks had a laugh.
When Laurel and Hardy try to SAIL... only they were under power, not sail.
I've been under that bridge in a hire boat. As stated below, you are not allowed to take a hire boat under it yourself - leave it to the professionals. I was very glad for the help!!

no life jackets when jumping up and down on the back of the boat. Genius idea!
holy shit. that boat was OBVIOUSLY not going to fit. They strolled right in to it like there was never a doubt. And 0:53 is she seriously trying to PULL the boat back while standing ON the boat. That explains this whole incident.
Oh, those old stones could tell some stories
love the way the ducks start shouting just before.
Even the ducks found it funny.
i would have thought the 100 ton "vehicle" that moved itself to the back would have done the trick, but no.....
And they both lived under the bridge for eternity - another family of Trolls !! LOL
Better than watching Laurel and Hardy...
Gee, the aquatic equivilent of the infamous 11 foot 8 inch railroad trestle.
A bit more speed, and he'd have been through
Love reading the Asinine comments from the Armchair admirals here!

Lord Eden this isn't a mistake it's a couple of fuckin twats that shouldn't be let loose on a boat
The only thing " Asinine " here is the person driving the boat, You have to use a Pilot to go under this bridge and ever renter is told that.
Maybe, but, it's still phreaquin' hilarious!!
These are 2 fucking idiots that should know height of the boat they're on ... And to watch that sack of Angels delight bouncing on the back just winds me up .lol

time to rephrase the old jaws saying i think your gunna need a smaller boat ..
I live near to that bridge, it's a thousand years old, don't know how it's survived for so long with idiots like them tearing it to pieces.
I've heard that pilots occasionally take a few people on board, 40-50 stone or so. But this side is tricky due to the currents. The jumping was blooming optimistic!
He'll never lift the bridge up! LMAO!!!!!!!
shame you dint keep recording
Why don't you just FART ROCKET POWER !!
IV been under there 3 times , you should ask a pilot to do it for you . This bloke was going much too fast .
My wife and I lived near here, that is the bridge at Potter Higham, we used to go there with a picnic and watch the fools crash into the bridge,, made a nice day out for us!! You are not allowed to take any rented or hire boats under the bridge now ,, you HAVE to let the local pilot take it through!
do you? we went there and drove under several times
£10 each way . the boat i hired the other week wouldnt fit under , so i never went up that far. Best holiday i have had for relaxing
I think you can technically go through without a pilot, but you're responsible for any damage if you mess up. I lived there and took my boat through everyday. The first time i did it at night so i could get to my mooring.
So nice to know that you get pleasure from other people’s misery and misfortune.
This is probably the only time in history when a man wished his wife weighed MORE.
Legend has it, they are still stuck there.

Hope he’s not a Lorry Driver. Can’t even let him loose on Water, never mind a Road. Lol. Knob head.
I like how he just powered in there
did you get any of it once they came out bet the roof was a bit of a mess.
If you think this was a disaster watch them load this vessel onto the trailer.
how the fuck does anyone look at that bridge and think "yea ill make no problem"
that should polish out !
They may have passed through the bridge okay at low tide and then assumed that they could have made it back not knowing that it was high tide.
Maybe, although I recognise what side of the bridge that is, on the other side there's only a relatively short stretch of river, Hickling Broad, Martham Broad, Horsey Mere and a single boatyard, everyone that lives or has a boat mooring the other side of this bridge knows exactly how low Potter Heigham bridge is.

......a true classic, thank-you.....
It's people like this who give normal people a bad rap.
I'm surprised they still let boat holiday makers use it
Can't fix stupid. Ignored advice. No life jackets. Jumping up and down may have given them some exercise, but wouldn't work on a row boat, let alone that one. That's another fine mess you've got me into!
would of been nice to see the rescue outcome?
Ducks be like..... "Quack, Quack, Quack, Quack Mo fukker"
pair of right wallys hope it was their boat
.... a bit more throttle and he'd have been through there......
the water is higher then normal , can't you see ??
ohh when she started to jump up and down I nearly wet myself
One year we had to all help another by having 15 people aboard thus lowering the boat but the rails still scrapped all part of the fun.
2.48 ~She says, “Can anyone help us?” Yes.......they warned you not to take your boat under this bridge. That was the help.

She's jumping up and down !!!! ahahahahahah The Romford Navy at its best !!!!
We used to sit hours at the side of this bridge when we were kids, very entertaing
I take my boat under, but only when after checking the clearance first. It isn't difficult, it just requires a little confidence and common sense.
goodchappy "My mother would call these people twits."
My Mam's like that too. They always struggle with their vowels when they get to a certain age
They should have let the tires down!!!
Even the ducks at the beginning was telling the guy he wouldn't fit
sadly the video did not show the end of what happened
Peter Gore Seer,
It Looks Slack Water, But Is It Low Or High Cant Tell.
Being stuck under the bridge might give a clue.
I have been through there with a friends boat, it is a scary experience even when you know the dimensions of the craft. Trim it up and hit full throttle !!! That will make it squat! lol
I use to sit in that spot 50 years ago..and watch. All these years later it is still bloody funny. Keep on jumping. Ha ha .
Just missing the Benny Hill music!
Bloody private boat owners, bain of the waterways, still makes us boat hirer's look good.
Another once a year boater expert
this is an easy one. just let some air out of the tires. Bing all solved.
tackless lol.
add some water to the bottom of the boat.
i've been under that bridge in a boat... thats a tight squeeze
They built a new bridge for vehicles but keep the old one because it is listed. I think they should cut around it, breaking the road (cars can use the new bridge) and bringing tourist money to the northern section of the river.
That was a classic.
Why would you take the time to do an Irish jig on the back of your boat when it's stuck , some people are just so inconsiderate.
good way to damage a decent boat...
"You can't park there mate".
Pull plug and let some water in, to sink boat a bit.
They could have made it a higher opening, plenty of high concrete, or stone , this bridge sucks
I can't honestly see how dancing an Irish jig is going to help, but I suppose you'll consider anything if you're desperate enough.
OMG so funny what clowns, I can hear the women saying Ill stand on the Back lol. then how are we going to get out lol.Answer wait for the tide to go out a bit lol. this is potter higham, Norfolk. a well known low Bridge but not to these guys lol.
Pilot even tells them to wait 20 minutes but they choose to spend diesel and calories to fight water stone and steel
Unfortunately the Norfolk Broads arn't ideal for idiots. Even after being given some good advice, they still attempt to squeeze it through.
Absolute idiots. For a start they were going to fast. I hope they got fined big
fill the cokpit with water and voila.
I only ask this cos I don't believe what I am seeing
First, they were way too fast... If they would have gone dead slow, they could had stop just before and see if it goes though... Anyway, they should have checked the rises and falls of the tide.. and lastly, being in the stupid situation they were, the could have unscrew the base of the canvas top.... I didn't know if I should laugh or be discussed by how stupid was that woman... Oups! I will go with Miaui Miaui diea... Hahaha...
Would have loved to have seen the outcome.
Folk in the UK are not too bright sometimes
Video should have ended after 30 seconds
And why didnt they at least try to pull themselves back with the anchor, surely they have one for just this sort of incident. No, oh well lesson learned - maybe
Never let them hire another boat😮
Don't lower the river , raise the bridge ! LOL ( sarcasm ) Some people's kids , Huh?
Didn't think about going slow then
And Ladies and Gentlemen that is all we have to show you today on life's reality show, "The Dumb and the Brainless." Tune in next time when we see what happens when a man eats a butterfly...which is poisonous.
All sing along 🎵 🎶 Rule Britanica , la,la,la 🇨🇦 expat jump around, jump around 🐻
Historically there was an alleged conspiracy to blow this bridge up, with the current water levels a lot of craft cannot get underneath it.
the more money, the more stupid.
Even the duck thought it was funny.
Only way back out of that is to let enough water into the bilge
A solution could be enlarge the bridge for allow to a small brain to pass through
the ducks are even laughing
you own a boat and dont know how to get it unstuck wow i guess they never thought to sink the boat a little duhh
if his old lady had lent back a tad they'd have cleared it. What a tool for not giving the order
