    I'm just starting my first chalk painting project, a large antique armoire. It's prepared for painting but I've literally let it sit in my house for weeks because I'm scared to screw it up and not use the chalk brush or paint correctly! Thank you for this video....I didn't realize there were so many techniques and now I feel more confident to actually open the paint and brush....LOL. :-)

    Hi, You mentioned in your vid where you use some of the paint strokes on but didn't mention anything for the first 2 techniques, cross hatch and stippling. Unfortunately, I will always lean towards a smooth a finish as possible so I really dislike the stippling effect but if it works really well in a certain area then I would of course be convinced. Thanks for uploading

    Thank you for the video. Just a possible tip....I've always heard the word "stippling" pronounced with a soft "i" sound, like in the words "is" or "it." I've taken many art classes and it was always said that way. I also used to get "A"s almost always in English and one rule of pronunciation is generally when a word has a double consonant, such as the double pp in the word stippling, the vowel before it is pronounced in its soft form, rather than its hard form, whereas vowels coming before a single consonant usually are pronounced in its hard form.

    Hi, great tutorial. I wonder though if you have ever tried using a roller with annie Sloan paint and if so what was the result? I've painted a large sideboard with a brush but the top looks dreadful with paint strokes, despite my best intentions. Thanks

    • @adav19
      @adav19 8 років тому

      You could try lightly sanding the top with a fine sandpaper before applying your wax. This should be done between every coat when painting furniture. I think a roller might leave too much texture.

    Great job, keep it up...! One question, you mixed paint with water. Can I mix paint in water, if it is of acrylic base or oil base ?

    • @adav19
      @adav19 8 років тому

      Oil and water don't mix, so I don't think that would work. The paint might just separate from the water, but you can do it will acrylic paint to get the same effect.

    • @trufurniture279
      @trufurniture279  8 років тому

      Hi J! I would not recommend mixing an oil based product with water. Water based paints can absolutely be thinned out using water. Be careful not to over water the mixture as it may change the color a bit.

    Hello. I am one of those people who have done Art their whole entire life so please let me help you with what you called the dry brush method. That is not how it is done. First, you dab your brush into the paint, applying a small amount, then onto a piece of paper towel, you will dab OFF most of the paint thus creating a "dry brush". Waving it in the air does not a dry brush make. You put a bit of paint on then you take it off then you paint with that. It's a texturizing method and rarely used to paint a whole piece. :-)

      Annie C I think she was making a joke when she said dry it in the air. Maybe dry brushing with chalk paint is this way? But whatever! I love the look. :)

    • @lw1343
      @lw1343 7 років тому +2

      Annie C She said she has been doing this for years. This is her method that works for her and she is sharing.

    • @sylvieo2231
      @sylvieo2231 7 років тому +1

      It's a joke Anne..Please.

    • @PattyPaints
      @PattyPaints 5 років тому +3

      Annie C is correct. Dry brushing is a well-known technique that follows the same process across all paint genres. It does not include waving the brush in the air for chalk paint or any other kind of paint. Sadly, I doubt she was joking. If so, then she must have also been joking when she mispronounced stippling, right? 😩 If you're going to do a video on technique, you should a) make sure you're demonstrating the technique PROPERLY, and b) make sure you are pronouncing the technique CORRECTLY or why bother?

    Thank you for your tutorial! I especially like the stroke you call a 'crosshatch'. I think you should rename it the 'linen' stroke because it's not a true crosshatch brush stroke. A true crosshatch brush stroke is what painters use to cover their canvas quickly and completely. It's fast, easy and effective in one single pass. Your stroke though different is a truly inspired idea and should have its own name. :-)
