You will always be at a disadvantage when you're dealing with people like this because they're willing to "crash out" crash out meaning throw everything away to seriously hurt or kill you over basically nothing if you're not able or willing to go all the way in a split second it's very difficult to not become a victim of people with this type of mentality...

You will find most "gangstas" are only like that in their neighborhood and while in a group.
90% of these boys are church mouse quiet if you catch them one one one outside of the "hood".
But yes showing the willingness to fight and if necessary take it further is all they respect. When they look you in the eye they need to see the danger to THEM when you look back or it is game on. Imo it is not something you can fake....willingness CANNOT be faked.

Awhile back I did a test for 'The Dark Triad Dirty Dozen' and scored very high in one category, low in the other two. Based on the one I scored high in I'm starting to wonder if that's why so many people will start confrontations with me and then flinch and gtfo. I've got some empathetic traits but also a pretty easily provoked and very deep mean streak, like the H/K switch gets flipped and a much more predatory animal takes over.
I wonder if there's some change they notice.

This is what got me out of getting hit up in South Central one day they tried to bang on me in Fig as I was walking into a store.
I went in and immediately knew what was up and I was ready to fight all three of em when I walked out and they were by my car.
I was legit kinda heated and wasn’t afraid at all I looked right at em ready to square up and the older dude of the 3 said “hey you good homie” and they left me alone.

See, now you're getting into the real deal. This is the kind of neighborhood I grew up in and I was 12 the first time I was intentionally shot at. There are a number of ways you can survive in this kind of environment but, being weak is generally not one of them. It's not quite as bad as places in L.A., Chicago, etc. but, people get killed on far too regular of a basis. This is why I'm critical of your previous overly-academic approach to self-defense. One thing an O.G told me when I was twelve was to walk with my head up and my chin up and dudes won't look at you as easy pray. It was 100% true. Before I would walk through the neighborhood or the mall and other kids would mess with me and after I started walking with my head and chin up, other kids stopped bullying me. I think it has something to do with the psychology if someone's looking at you before you look at them it kinda creeps you out (for a kid it scares them) but when you both look at each other at the same time then one of you can look away and it's no big deal. The other person won't think of you as weak as if there already staring at you and then you look up at them. Then you're kinda scared and theyre just looking at you seeing you get scared. Idk if it makes sense to any of you but it helped me out a lot to walk with my head up and chin up.

More times than not, it's how you carry yourself. Stay in shape, head up, shoulders back, strong eye contact etc... As a white guy, I worked in a few bad neighborhoods. And had a few confrontations, one was with a prominent drug dealer in the area. I was a manager and he bought a card with minutes on it, for his burner phone. He claimed the minutes weren't on there, he paid 50.00 for the card. He came close to me in a violent manner, to where I got in a blade stance and made sure he knew I wouldn't back down or be easy.
After some arguing, I gave him a refund. And said to him, I will do this one time for you but if you choose to get the pre-paid card again. You're doing it at your own risk. After that day he would come in the store and greet me big name and spot me up. He knew I wasn't a punk, but did the right thing by him. They are put in these type of situations by design. Economic society is rigged from the start while they also program, brainwash, manipulate, coerce, sabotage etc…the areas and the people in them. It’s literally designed to be this way. Thats how we have the rich and the poor because they created it. If they weren’t rich they wouldn’t have poor people. They can only exist simultaneously meaning that someone actually perpetuates these as the norms. Some people never even had a chance.

(Context for story reason) I'm 15 in new York, I grew up in a white middle class family, never any problems, mom and dad loved each other, brothers got good grades, family dream, being from New York within the inner city, and also going on to become a teenager at that point soon, things changed, I used to be scared, weak. Afraid of everything and anyone who said something to me.
But going where I was going I knew I couldn't be that, I knew I wouldn't survive being that, from the moment I saw a bag of weed, to the moment I held my first gun I knew there was no going back, I walk high with my head raised, I walk hands to the side swinging like I own the street.
because In my mind, I need to act as if I do, so the person who really does own the street doesn't lay me out on it.
I'm not a strong guy, a fearless guy. Shit I've been beaten down till blood, but I never sat down, not once.
I have too much honor for my last name, and too much pride for where I'm from to lay down and get beat, remember kids, ladies, gentlemen anyone who's reading this, the life has a path, and I haven't even seen half of it yet.

Brainstorm, develop and implement controls to reduce the likelihood of negative encounters with variables or risk assessment.
Go about your business as usual. The wisdom gained through threat and risk assessments will give you the trust in yourself, which others will notice. And more than likely, leave you the hell alone. If your threat assessment proves wrong, hopefully your risk assessment controls includes knowing how to defend yourself.

Man that is a vicious circle, I feel bad for this guy. Kinda crazy how the infantry was the same way.... I did some things in Afghanistan that I'm not proud of but I didn't want to be weak in front of my buddies... even crazier is that I heard from most of them that they did things because they didn't want to look weak in front of me, and the other men.

Life in prison for shooting someone in the leg? I think there's more to it than that.
