    I split my 4.0 OHV fan shroud into top and bottom sections. I installed the bottom, then the fan, then the top section. I strapped them together with aluminum flat stock and sheet metal screws. Makes it a hellofa lot easier. The big 6 Cologne makes everything crowded AF.

    Does the clutch fan mount on the water pump? Hopefully doing that doesn't damage the pump if it does

    Thanks! Now off to Harbor F. to get an impact tool. (As with all tools, I'm sure it will come in handy later as well.) I'll store it where I can't find it next time, probably.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  3 роки тому

      Yes they most definitely do come in handy. Just make sure you hit it on the corner of the nut and not in the center it will damage the water pump but most of all it will lock the nut to the water pump as well so only hit it on the edges.

    • @utah133
      @utah133 3 роки тому +1

      @@sharpcarco Worked like a charm! and the H.F. air chisel I bought (not recommended for frequent use) was only $12. Yes, you have to hit the nut on the edge.. And some of them are lefties, another consideration.

    I am rescinding a comment I made about this not working. When I gave it a shot with the impact while turning with a wrench I was able to free it up. Probably a useful approach for other applications as well.

    Here's my question and issue I'm having. The shaft the fan clutch attaches too that goes to the water pump. What is it called?? The end of that shaft broke off in the fan clutch. Does anyone know what that shaft is call and how to remove it?

  • @irishlad7458
    @irishlad7458 3 роки тому +1

    Wat about all that impact on the bearing it atatched to

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve done this about 100 times and because I don’t apply downward pressure towards the center of the nut . The hammer is acting like a wrench. And it’s applying pressure to the edge so you shouldn’t have any problem not to mention they actually make a tool that fits on the end of the air hammer that will also accomplish the same thing this is just a cheaper form of that tool.
      But who knows maybe you could make a mistake and ruin the bearing on the pump anything is possible this is just an idea to try to help you out because sometimes these things are tight as heck

    This video made me realize Ford's FSM is wrong... spin the nut CCW to loosen. Now that I'm done tightening it, it came off easily... SMH

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  3 роки тому

      You could definitely have water pump troubles by just doing this procedure but the fan blade is designed to tighten up as it spins this was just a video about a trick not necessarily about a way of life

    I cannot figure out how to do this

    • @jonpea2900
      @jonpea2900 4 роки тому +2

      Use an air hammer/ with a flat chisel tip ,, hit the nut w/ the chisel tip right on the edge of the wrench flat. spin the nut in the direction that the fan spins while the motor is running (conventional thread) in a ranger, its to the left. I only had to hit it for a second, It wasnt obvious that it broke free. I then just grabbed the fan by the blades, it spun off with ease.

    • @sharpcarco
      @sharpcarco  4 роки тому +1

      I’m not hitting anything with the motor running. 😂 But I get what you’re saying . Somebody could mistake you saying that you should do that while it is running LOL I’m glad you got it bro

      I didn’t use the wrench I mean it seems like it would’ve been kind of self-explanatory since there’s only one nut you would put a wrench on if you were using a wrench but I wasn’t using a wrench so….. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I don’t know what the two of you were talking about…. OK so if you actually go out and look at the vehicle and look at how to take the fan off, it would seem pretty silly to ask this question but I understand not. Everybody knows everything….
      Thank you for your comments though they do help my video grow so regardless of if there are negative and positive it’s all good for me you guys will figure it out

    That is a common and easy way to do it but very shady and foolish. Remember, that nut threads directly to the water pump shaft. So you’re basically using an air hammer on the water pump shaft and bearing. Not too smart.
