- Sage Mode Naruto got strongert than the Nine-Tails when Naruto faced it to acquire KCM. Naruto vs Nine Tails is somewhat overlooked in the Naruto series, but it's an extremely interesint fight. Sage Mode Naruto uses the Super Massive Rasegan Barrage, massive Rasenshurikens, and he manages to defeat Kurama with sheer power.
If we compare what Sage Mode Naruto and the Nine Tails did individually against Pain, it's clear that the Nine Tails was stronger than Naruto in that point of the story. So, how come Naruto beat the Nine Tails so completely here? Naruto finally met Kushina in thei part of the story, who helped him with the fight, and Bee and the Eight Tails also helped him out. However, Naruto still seemed way more powerful than he was in the Naruto vs Pain fight.

Is Sage Mode Naruto Multi-Continental?
I personaly think sage mode Naruto IS multi continental

I always thought Naruto wasn't literally fighting the Nine-Tails. The "fight" was taking place in his mind, and was just a visual representation of a mental struggle.
I thought that's not even 20% of half of nine tails 😂
He was?, Naruto's mind scape isn't explained well but basically something that happens in his mind is also physical,like when Sasuke went into his mind to suppress the kurama chakra in the tenchi bridge arc.
I more so see Naruto talking to karuma when we see them on the water similar to when sasuke enters Naruto’s mind to see the nine tails. Another good example probably most iconic is when Naruto pushes those massive gates open to free karuma and work alongside him.

Sage Mode I always have a fondness for this form because that was when I found Naruto Shippuden at its peak. A power-up that made sense in supplementing Naruto's capabilities(also smartly utilizing Shadow clone development) and also very much fitting Naruto thematically as gaining more insight about the world/ being entrusted by Jiraiya's will. Also, I'm not going to lie; that red jacket was always badass and wished that Naruto could have had a variant of that as an adult.
It showed how much Naruto had become Jiraya 's perfect pupil unlike Pain,I really wish he kept the cape too, apparently kishimoto got tired of drawing it so it disappeared,at least kcm 2 brought it back somewhat temporarily.
Yeah the cape was pretty awesome & his hokage cape should've kept the same look honestly. I really don't know why they decided to shorten it & make it look like that. Not that it looks bad. It's just that the minato & sage mode capes look awesome. Oh and actually i have no idea why they decided to switch the flames at the end of his hokage cape with triangles. Along with his short hair, it just feels like they want to make him look his worst in boruto. Anyways cheers from Egypt.

sage mode was definitely a peak for Naruto Shippuden, it enhanced his abilities and added depth to his character. and yeah, that red jacket was undeniably badass. it would've been cool to see Naruto with a variant of it as an adult.
Agreed Pain Arc was peak Shippuden. It went really down hill afterwards for me.
1. He got experience while he fought pain
2. He trained between the pain fight and this fight
3. Kushina and bee helped him
And he was sitting still. And could fly in his mind like I do all the time.

yeah, Naruto gained experience from his fight against Pain, trained in between, and received help from Kushina and Bee. All those factors contributed to his growth and improved performance.

There is a simple answer to the speculation. Naruto was sitting and absorbing nature energy so he had unlimited sage energy when battling the nine tail. Meanwhile against pain he had a limited amount of sage energy

I think naruto absorbing his "hatred side" was one of the biggest power amps in the series. He became a much more mature ninja and understood better his capacities and limits through this fight. He became more efficient
I feel like people overrate Naruto’s performance against the nine tails just because until then we’ve never seen anybody step up to the nine tails like that. He didn’t actually do any lasting damage, needed Bee to save him from a TBB that would’ve cooked him, in a fight in the real world he would’ve gotten washed AND he can enter Sage mode while moving because his physical body is still, that’s a lot of advantages and that he wouldn’t have Irl. Sage mode is also my favorite transformation of Naruto’s, too bad it got power cliffed

Naruto vs pain. Ichigo vs Byakuya/aizen/juha and Luffy vs kaido. Many times the anime community just forget how the fight went. If not for a last minute save from something else they would have died after that fight.
Heck same with Goku vs Vegeta. Vegeta wrecked Goku and if not for so much help from everyone left they would have lost. Those are the best reverse power creep moments where the enemy is just that powerful

Two things, imagine how much Chakra Naruto is usually using to hold back the nine tails. When we're inside his astral projection, we get to see him use the entirety of his Chakra pool, not just his extra.
Six tails in the Pain fight is probably as strong as it is because Naruto is willingly assisting it to a degree. In every other instance, he's fighting against it but losing.
Thirdly, I bet getting the extra seal from his Dad, probably made Naruto's use of Chakra much more efficient because he didn't have to use as much to hold back the nine tails.
Except when Naruto hurt Sakura as four tails,so he definitely wasn't holding back then during the orochimaru fight,with the pain fight he was only focused on Pain.
that's an interesting perspective, Naruto's astral projection allows him to tap into his entire chakra pool, giving him access to more power. And you're right, when Naruto willingly assists the Six Tails, it becomes stronger. Getting the extra seal from his dad likely made Naruto's chakra usage more efficient, reducing the amount needed to control the Nine-Tails.

Naruto's mind scape could be both physical and mental, it's not really explained how his mind scape thing works so I don't really know, this mind scape ability/world seems to only be for Jinchuriki since he was able to conversate with the other tailed beasts while imprisoned by obito and switch on and off between himself and Kurama to talk to someone during the war.

Something i dont understand of boruto is when sakura tells kage naruto oh you lost kurama you cant use to many shadow clones or rasengans and teen naruto had this fight with his own chakra and sage mode and kage naruto cant do anything against code
This is true but there are also other factors that could be relevant:
Jinchurikis are stronger than their tailed beasts, meaning that Naruto with 8 tails could actually physically stronger than Kurama
Also Pain was fatigued at the end of the battle, meaning that the nine tails isn't necessarily stronger than him
Actually at that point - when the 9 tails Naruto was fully transforming - Pain was actually going to finish them by making the Chibaku Tensei bigger (as he said) before Minato appeared out of nowhere to save the day, resetting the seal and allowing Naruto to resume in Sage Mode ........ Yet these fanatics keep saying: Nine tails is stronger than Pain; Pain struggled to seal 1/2 of Kurama; Ha HA, Sasuke at end of War arc is stronger than Pain because he sealed all Biju with ease (which makes no sense btw, where'd he get all that chakra from and how'd they learned to do multiple simultaneously in less than a day too but OK) and they didn't come out.
To address the last common claim, it clearly was different in Sasuke's case (it was ridiculous but still there is reason for the difference - besides 'PLOT'). Sasuke's Chibaku Tensei orbs/ 'black holes' made direct contact with the Bijus before anything else was pulled-in hence the Bijus were at the very core (much more difficult to escape) but in the Pain vs Jinchuri 9 tails, the 9 tails & Naruto were sealed closer in the outer region (& they still struggled with all their might to get out)

Naruto was sitting still during that whole exchange, which is why he was able to continuously build up nature chakra. I remember them explaining that in the anime, he basically had unlimited sage mode. Plus he had a ton of help from Kushina.
It's much more easy to believe in this scene that, because it's kinda of a mental realm, the laws there are different. Or else it would be one more plot hole or excessive plot strech to the collection.

Something that I always believed is that the Bijuu's power cannot be used fully, because it is still sealed, so it is likely that the Kyui did not use its real power. Surely if the fight had been in Naruto's real world, it is more likely that Naruto would lose.

Minato just stalemate Kurama causing a big explosion that probably only effected Kurama. Minato wasnt really there to receive the blowback from the explosion, he was in the hospital because V2 Kushina impelled him with that toxic chakra.

I always thought that if the botched seal orocimaru did on him disrupted his chakara so the 8 trigram seal could also do something similar and unlocking the gate in order to fight the nine tails probably unlocked some more chakra control/reserves. That plus staying still while just constantly stockpiling energy seems like it could explain it.

It's not mindscape because Naruto outside body went Sage Mode THEN he used the jutsu. That was obviously a real battle period and was not advantage due to who is the host

The fight against kurama was in his mindscape, his chakra was imagined. In the physical world kurama could only ever be at most half-strength.
Naruto was not low-Jounin before sage mode. It is stated multiple times that he had surpassed Kakashi prior to his senjustsu training.
It was also stated Sakura caught up to So6p chakra Naruto and Sasuke
Naruto surpassed kakashi in terms of ninjutsu with his rasanshuriken alone. But there’s not much else reason he would beat kakashi 1v1 at that point. His iq, reactions and versatility was much lower than kakashis and being generous naruto would at Most be relative speed wise.
I would say he’s at least high jonin maybe low kage from endurance and ap wise. He’d beat any of the kage body guards imo.

my understanding of it was that nature chakra was necessary to beat pain because he would just absorb normal ninjutsu. In Naruto's fight against the nine-tails he was able to use his massive natural chakra reserve for jutsu. I think its definitely possible to combo regular chakra with nature chakra, as we see plenty of times where Naruto mixed different chakra natures into his rasengans. He was stronger because he was made weaker in his fight against Pain. And the debut of sage mode minus naturos natural chakra gave the illusion that he had gained an unreasonable amount of power in his fight against Kurama when he had it all along.

my theory is that when Naruto beat his Yami half his chakra was no longer split between dark and light. and it became more balanced because he was now at peace within himself. This then made his chakra stronger and denser. Then on top of him being able to go into sage mode while sitting allowed him to beat the fox. I would also say that thanks to Kushinas love he also gained the focus and strong will to beat Kurama also. there is also the fact that Naruto was able to use his whole chakra pool instead of half of it due to not holding the fox back any more in the seal.
Don't forget that Naruto only has half of Kurama. Kurama for much of the series is nerfed. Which makes the Minato one crazier. Minato clashed with the whole 9 tails.
An easy answer is probably just plot armor.
In story I see it as Naruto being able to maintain his sage mode due to having a still body which gives him a longer time of use and better control over sage mode as the pain fight was his first outing with the power and we see how Naruto isn't perfect with it and has to be ready for anything
Though the love boost and heal from his parents makes the difference as that is also a power up in anime just not used as much. Naruto used rage when Hinata died while Ichigo in bleach had the confidence from orihime and went from getting beat to using his hand to hold back grimjow.
Though honestly I liked sage mode way more than his cloak as its way cooler and powers with restrictions are more hype

If we assume it returned to naruto, then pain actually fights a six tailed kurama, amped with nature chakra.
Which would explain the power difference.

Naruto using sage mode plus all of his latent chakra with 2 people supressing the nine tails. Bee/Gyuki were supressing it and kushina also suppressed the nine tails. Naruto probably would've lost to the nine tails if it wasn't for the both of them. We wouldn't need them or those statements if Naruto could beat the nine tails by himself.

The fight with pain was the first naruto fight in sage mode. He got better faster stronger.

My theory us that kurama said he is fighting the sage chakara so naruto has a harder time gathering chakara. During thid fight kurama is distracted fighting Naruto so hes able to gather the chakara easily. Thus a power boost.
You should consider that Naruto was sit without moving in the real world while he was fighting kurama inside of the seal. So he could collect natural energy all the time. Differently when he was fighting against pain, that he put 2 clones to collect natural energy while he was fighting with pain, and because of this, he could do only 2 clones to fight with him.
That was only HALF of the nine tails btw, when Naruto beat him into submission…

well, it was only half of nine tails, plus Naruto must have gotten stronger from the waterfall of truth in the mindscape and he had Kushina's chakra which held 100 percent of nine tails before she died as well. So if Naruto inhereted some of her chakra he'd have more overall chakra. Keep in mind Naruto was rushing to learn sage mode so after Pain was defeated he had more time to fully take time to better train it.
It’s like the phantom zone he wasn’t really discharging any energy but on the contrary he was still gathering more and more energy. In phantom projections you can do anything you can do in real life without the energy depletion so he wasn’t actually using any chakra whilst his nature chakra pull was just growing
Well first of all he had help from Mishima, who was using her chains to retrain kurama so you have to take that into account , but Naruto was able to keep up with and even equal the nine tails in power because A he was sitting still in that state and therefore could constantly mould sage chakra and B it was stated by kakashi that if Naruto wasn’t suppressing the nine tails (which at this point he had released the seal) he would have 100 times the amount than himself.

Or if it was just a special gengutsu that only Obito and madara could use cause they are the only two shown controlling Kurama.

Well, if he undid his seal, doesn't that mean that the Nine Tails chakra was leaking out? Sure he was there to take a big amount of it, but the amoujt that was leaking was also probably the reason why he got so strong. I mean, with only a bit of it leaking we saw naruto come from losing to Sasuke, to actually winning against sasuke with a boost from his sharigan and cursed seal

I definitely think that it was mainly because naruto was sitting still i also think that naruto had improved at least a little between the fight with pain and his battle with the nine tails though that's just my headcanon also if naruto had countered kurama's tailed beast bomb with a rasengan then it definitely would have worked especially considering minato did that to the full nine tails while the kurama inside of naruto is only half of the nine tails and naruto lost because he was specifically trying to pull kurama's chakra from him not to just defeat him. If b wasnt there naruto would have probably lost though i could see him doing something like using his shadow clone to move him out of the way like he did in the beginning of shippuden though that's only if he would be fast enough to react and know what to do
Because his the best unlike boruto part one having fillers and not having a single pain in his life
Ok, so my idea is, Naruto, at this point in the story, uses a lot of his chakra to keep Kurama at bay, meaning He isn't capable of using it all at once and Naruto has a shitton of chakra, just so We're clear on that. So, when Naruto doesn't keep Kurama inside, Kurama also has access to at least some of Narutos chakra. While in their fight, Kurama only has It's own chakra and Naruto has His own chakra and nature energy, so maybe sage mode Naruto just has more chakra when He doesn't use most if it to keep Kurama from getting out? I'm not sure if that makes sense and don't really like this from a storytelling standpoint, because it really makes Kurama quite a whimp imo, but I do kinda like it as an answer to this question.
One this fight was in narutos mind so its a mental battle not a literal physical ballet if it was physical dont you think they would have exploded naruto fighting inside him also is naruto shrunken inside his own mind so he can fit so many of himself and even if this was a physical battle this is a far different battle kit wise. All naruto had to do to win was put the 9 tails off balance and pull as the resangan pushed he didnt have to kill the 9 tails he didnt destroy the 9 tails he earned some of his chakara. Arguably the 9 tails allowed him to have some of the chakara as a test to see how naruto would use it. This is just a terrible set of "fights" to compare.
