    Thank you ! I learned about softening and smoothing curved edges- Thanks! I am still curious about segmented circles and how they are extracted for laser-cutting DXF files? - Does rendering them smooth affect the files? A reply would be appreciated.

    Thanks for sharing. I was not aware of the information box for smoothing and softening, thanks.
    If I could be bold enough to summarise, there are 4 tools for hiding, smoothing and softening lines - info box, softening edges box, eraser tool (Shift-erase, Ctrl-erase) and the hide/unhide property. All worth mastering and having their place.

    • @Thesketchupessentials
      @Thesketchupessentials  5 років тому

      Yep - that's a good point - I didn't really get into "hiding/unhiding" (with the eraser tool or not), but it's definitely another good thing to be aware of 👍

    This is great video. Thank you. It didn't quite answer my issue, though. In all your cylinders, there is a hard line edge (profile?) that you can see, no matter the soften or smooth settings. I have a faucet component I imported, and it came with the profile edge missing. That means that the faucet is effectively invisible when rendered as vector or with certain styles. I have another faucet that has has the profile line. They both have softened and smooth edges, but one I can see (yay!) and one I can't (boo). How can I fix the profile-less faucet? Profile (the setting) is turned on in both components.

    Hey, Justin , is it possible to smooth already existed model ? I downloaded a mirror from 3dwarehouse and im guessing that the circle (which the circle is made of) was created with a small amount of sides. can I add sided to make it look more realistic - now I can see a polygon and not a circle. Need to mention that its impossible to do it like in your tutorial because the mirror is not just a circle but an advanced model.

    Saw you do a pretty cool trick. At about the 9:56 mark in your video. You created a pretty fast "road" or line on a curved surface in a pretty fast workflow. How did you do that? Did you drop that using "Drape" and not put it in video? It kind of looked like you were you drawing a rectangle on the Z axis, then maybe some kind of intersecting magic keystroke.

    Will softening or smoothing components in sketchup make CNC cutting smoother. I have found the machine I use at a local company has to adjust all my drawings as when it gets to round edges it cuts them out square

    Hi, I was wondering if I smoothen an group of faces and then export the file to a .stl file the result are still with hard edges. Is there a way to solve that?

      Use plugin called CleanUp

  • @cleoandriola1731
    @cleoandriola1731 2 роки тому

    One problem I've been finding is that when the shape is more complex, drawn with sandbox or extrusion tools for example, even if the edges are softened/smoothed, when it comes to texturing, sketchup still reads it as lots of separate triangular/grid faces. You couldn't really notice with the grass + gravel in this video, but any larger scale pattern like brick for example would be split up and wouldn't follow the curve, resulting in what looks like a mess of interference. Is there a tool or extension that allows sketchup to merge more complex extrusions into one solid face? Like it automatically does with a consistently curved face? I need to render textures in some more organic forms.. Surely there's a solution?
